“What Reasons Do People Give For Hating Jews?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What reasons do people give for hating Jews?

There are all kinds of stated reasons for hating Jews, whether it be holding too much power in countries we’ve assimilated into, ruling the whole world, being greedy, envy of our disproportionate success in the world compared to other nations, oppressing Palestine as a Jewish State, the fall of Germany in World War I, the assassination of Tsar Alexander II in 19th Century Russia, drinking children’s blood in the Middle Ages, denying Muhammad’s prophethood and murdering Jesus Christ.

More fundamentally, however, according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the reasons many people give for Jew hatred are preceded by the sensation of hatred in and of itself. As Kabbalist Rav Yehuda Ashlag (Baal HaSulam) writes in his article “The Solution“:

“It is a fact that Israel is hated by all nations, whether for religious reasons, racial reasons, capitalist reasons, communist reasons, or for cosmopolitan reasons, etc. It is so because the hatred precedes all reasons, but each merely resolves its loathing according to its own psychology.”

In other words, hatred of Jews doesn’t depend on the many varied actions and behaviors of the Jewish people.

Hatred of Jews is rather a sensation embedded in nature that emerges within people.

How does the sensation of Jew-hatred surface?

In order to answer this, we need to understand the foundation of the Jewish people, the Jewish role in the world, and how non-Jews respond in relation to whether or not Jews are performing this role.

The Foundation of the Jewish People

The Jewish people emerged in ancient Babylon some 4,000 years ago. It was a time when Babylon was experiencing a crisis of social division, with conflicts and hatred tearing up the ancient Babylonian society. During this period, Abraham, a Babylonian priest who discovered the path to unite above the growing divisions, i.e. reaching the revelation of the single force of love and bestowal that exists in reality above the growing ego, began openly teaching his method to anyone who wanted to learn.

Since social division was felt as a burning problem, many people flocked to learn with Abraham. He guided them to the discovery of the single force of love and bestowal above their divisive drives. The group he led became known as “the people of Israel” (i.e., “Israel” coming from “Yashar Kel,” which means “straight to God,” i.e. straight to the single force of love and bestowal that exists in reality), and later they became known as “Jews” (the Hebrew word for “Jew” [Yehudi] comes from the word for “united” [yihudi] [Yaarot Devash, Part 2, Drush no. 2]).

Therefore, the Jewish nation was founded not on a biological basis, but on an ideological one.

People from all over ancient Babylon who felt a problem with social division and a need for unity gathered under Abraham’s method and united above their divisive drives. By doing so, they became known as “a light unto the nations,” as the attainment of the one, unique and unified force of nature above the human ego, which causes all the divisiveness and problems in society, has a positive domino effect that “upgrades” human consciousness: it leads to more positive connections, more consideration, support, love and care, among humanity in general.

The Jewish Role in the World

As it was then, so it is today, but on a much larger, global scale.

The overblown human ego, social division, conflicts and hatred are all experiencing an exponential boost, bringing about myriad problems and crises. For instance, despite more human population than ever before on the planet, and all the technological and cross-cultural connections that have been established worldwide, human society feels more and more isolation, stress, depression, emptiness and anxiety.

The more people feel such problems, the more people subconsciously feel that the Jews are the cause of these problems.

That is where the sensation of Jew-hatred comes from: that the Jews have a role in the world, to unite (“love your friend as yourself”) above division (“love will cover all transgressions”), and by doing so, be a conduit for the single unifying force of love and bestowal to spread throughout the collective human consciousness (“a light unto the nations”).

The Response to the Jews from the Nations of the World in Relation to the Jewish Role

If we function correctly in relation to our role in the world, uniting among each other in order to pass unity to the world, then we will experience a positive reaction from everyone in the world.

If, however, as it currently stands, we fail to acknowledge or make any effort to unite among each other, we then block the positive unifying force from reaching humanity, and hatred stirs up in non-Jews toward the Jews as a natural phenomenon that serves to pressure us to perform our role.

It is thus my hope that we will realize our role in the world sooner rather than later, sparing the world and ourselves much suffering.

We simply don’t see what it would mean if we make some steps toward uniting, how much all the tension in human society and between nations would calm down, how all the exploitation, manipulation, hatred and abuse in humanity would be replaced by mutual support, consideration, love and care for our fellow human beings.

This is why I put in so many efforts to disseminate the message about the role of Jews in the world, and the cause and solution to anti-Semitism, since humanity’s future of happiness or torment depends specifically on this.

Family And Marriage, Part 3

laitman_624.03What will help save marriage?

Question: Today, the institution of marriage cannot be held together by urges, therefore it is necessary to look for additional goals. What are these goals to sustain a marriage?

Answer: In our time, the religious consecration of marriage cannot hold a family. Not only in a small society, but practically all over the world. Young people do not care what will be thought of them here or there.

As a rule, they are not dependent on their parents, do not live with them, are not in the same society where they themselves were born and raised. In general, young couples are independent of the previous generation and the society in which they were brought up.

They break away completely and create a family on a whole new level. Between them, completely different necessary connections appear. And if there are no such connections, then, as we see, marriage does not exist.

Question: What goals can sustain marriage in the future?

Answer: At least not common children and common property, but something that stands above this. It can only be a goal that is higher than life: I need this person as a husband or wife, with children and with all my way of life because with them I gain the necessary space within which I prepare myself for a higher purpose. There will be no family without this.

laitman_962.5Question: If we do not succeed in ascending to the world of Ein Sof (infinity), what awaits us?

Answer: Don’t be worried that “they will take you by the ear and lift you up.” Are you ready to manage anything by yourself? You are certainly not.

Question: When a person develops spiritually how many incarnations does it take before one reaches one’s full correction?

Answer: You can do this in one incarnation, here and now. If you were given contact with the means for ascension, then all the rest depends on you.

Question: When bad properties are discovered, how can one avoid doing bad things? How can I hold onto myself?

Answer: It depends on the environment. If you find yourself in the right environment, you will be unable to do anything bad.

Question: Is it possible to correct everything on the level of thoughts?

Answer: It is precisely on the level of thoughts that it is necessary to correct everything.

Question: After we cross the Machsom (barrier), will there be a next incarnation of the soul? Or do I not have to return and can advance further and ascend only in the spiritual world?

Answer: You will be able to advance even without returning to your physical body.

Question: You are saying that it is necessary to correct everything on the level of thought. How can we do this if we ourselves do not control anything? What is it that depends on us?

Answer: We do not control anything, including our thoughts. We can only ask for the upper light to come and correct our thoughts.

Question: Do traumas and experiences in our lives act as corrections that will bring us to a state of bestowal?

Answer: They do not. It is unnecessary to think that traumas and experiences correct anything. They only push us toward correction. Correction lies in good connection in the group where you build a place for mutual kindness and mutual participation where the Creator can be discovered.

My Thoughts On Twitter 11/26/19

Dr Michael Laitman Twitter

If I aim for the center of the ten, I feel how it disappears through disturbances by the Creator. Thus, the Creator shows me my deviation. It’s like looking through an aim and refocusing. I have to follow the deviations to stay in focus, and that’s my dance with the Creator.

With each thought in our minds or a physical action we must pull the Creator in, invite Him to rule over us, try to feel and to reveal His power. We must plan to aim all our thoughts and actions toward revealing the Creator’s governance over everything that is happening.

The center of the ten is the gate to spirituality. Guards are there to see that you leave your will to receive behind. To do so you have to integrate in the ten by the reforming light. Then every state becomes a Parzuf—perceiving spirituality in connection with the friends.

The essence of our work right now: 1) See that there’s none else besides him in everything. 2) See that he’s good that does good—always directs us to the goal of creation. 3) Contact him through the center of the group.

I have to annul before my ten—raise them to the level of the Creator. He will always show me the opposite—the friends seem lowly. By annulling before them I turn them into a Kli—the first 9 Sefirot where the Creator is revealed. And I’m the Malchut that’s under restriction.

It’s not enough just to decide that there is none else but the Creator. It takes a special power of faith to slightly rise above oneself. We are making efforts to unite in the center of the ten, in the point where everyone annuls before the others, before unity, and the Creator.

By aspiring to the center of the 10, we turn to our corrected state, the good future, which already exists ahead. To the extent of our efforts to imagine it correctly, the aspiration to attain this connection in love and mutual help, we enter the next frame, the future picture.

I don’t annul my feelings as though they’re not there. If I make myself an absolute zero, not to think about myself at all, then I destroy the entire depth of desire. But I need to achieve the opposite, to rise above my egoism. Otherwise, if I am a zero, then the Creator is just a little more than that.

Within the connection that we feel with a friend we must imagine the Creator, the quality of love and bestowal that I want to reveal between us. We have to connect everything together: adhesion with the Creator, revealing “there’s none else besides Him,” connection with the friends, and faith above knowledge.
#Kabbalah #unity

By connecting Him to our advancement, we realize the correction properly—properly connected and aimed at bestowing to the Creator.

The correct connection between us is the connection with the Creator.

Learn The Creator’s Language

laitman_962.7Imagine that you are unemployed and there is no work, you have nothing to eat. Suddenly, somebody offers you a job and it is as if he gave you food, clothes, everything you need and more. Therefore, we must be grateful to the Creator for giving us the opportunity to work.

There are those to whom He did not give such an opportunity: billions of people received no invitation to work for the Creator, which means to receive the reward, the light of Hassadim, the ability to become a bestower like the Creator and to see that through the force of bestowal they receive a great reward.

Therefore, a person must be glad that he received the hardening of the heart—the place for work. This is the place where the Creator draws him closer, invites him to Himself. If the Creator fulfills a person in the place where he is, He pushes him away from Himself. We must understand this attitude and treat the descent purposefully.

Therefore, when it seems to me that the light does not shine upon me, I must take this as an invitation to seek how to emanate the light myself into the darkness. By revealing the darkness to me, the Creator reveals the shattered desire to me. I must bring to it the light of Hassadim in order to illuminate this desire.

If we relate to our states correctly, we will see that in each of them, supposedly bright or supposedly dark in the heart and the mind, there is always something we can add toward adhesion with the Creator in order to become ever greater partners of His in the work. The Creator takes a step and I accordingly take the second step complementing Him. This is how it is all the time: He does something and so do I.

As a result, I begin to better understand the Creator’s actions and I can divide them into stages and steps, and track the causes and effects. Thus, I find the causal dependence and increase the quality of my actions. It turns out that I already perceive this not as hardening of the heart, but as a language in which the Creator speaks to me. In all the ascents and descents, I begin to feel the construction of the vessels and their fulfillment, our conversation with the Creator, me and Him.

I begin to feel the ten as a musical instrument that gives me all the possibilities to express myself, and to hear and feel the Creator in the ten as if within a melody played on ten keys.

My mutual work with the Creator is in trying every moment to complete the state I find myself in. I realize that I have received this moment from the Creator, that all the feelings and understanding came from Him, and I must add this to “There is none else besides Him, the good who does good.” I do not act primitively, one on one, directly from me to the Creator, but through the ten. I begin to feel how my friends and I must connect with each other in order to provide a correct response to the Creator.

The entire ten connects in Arvut (mutual guarantee) in order to complete our common response to the Creator. The Creator changes our states and each of us must complete himself so that he balances the ten, brings everyone to one thought, to one intention together to bring contentment to the Creator.

Therefore, everyone wants to feel each other together in order to feel that the Creator is content. This is how we will start becoming closer to the Creator and talk to Him more and more. This is the language of communication with Him: in all the ten Kelim (vessels) we will feel a connection, a mechanism letting us talk to each other. If we are together with the friends, we hear the Creator and talk to Him.

“They helped everyone his friend”: through the connection with the friends we come to the ability to pass our thoughts and desires to the Creator and to hear His voice in our common Kli (vessel).

It is a special feeling when we feel ourselves not only together, but as one. With such a connection a resonance effect occurs: all the particular harmonics are connected together and give not just more power, but change into a new quality because of our unity.1

“Nuremberg Trials Fast Forward: Israel’s Role Against Anti-Semitism” (Times Of Israel)

The Times of Israel published my new article “Nuremberg Trials Fast Forward: Israel’s Role Against Anti-Semitism

A trip to a past with a striking resemblance to today’s reality toward Jews. That is how I would describe my recent visit to Berlin and Nuremberg, where I could experience a dense atmosphere against Jews, so common these days in basically any part of the world. However, my most recent encounter with anti-Semitic feelings was actually in Bulgaria.

Our annual European Kabbalah Convention took place in Borovets, Bulgaria two weeks ago. We arrived from Israel a few days before the beginning of the event, which gathered hundreds of my students, to do some sightseeing. We rented a modern house in a rundown and sleepy village. It was an isolated house placed between a cemetery and a monastery. It was a very quiet place, with one store and one café, where elderly people spend their days. When I first approached them, I could immediately feel a hostile attitude and notice how they clammed up. Even though there was no external sign that could reveal my origin, I felt a warning light turned on inside them in relation to the fact that a group of Jews had entered their village.

The Role of the Jews in the World

It was clear to me that it wasn’t them, it was me. They had no real choice to love or reject, to embrace or hate. I felt what the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches: Humanity is like a machine that follows absolute laws of nature, and we, Jews, are responsible for operating this machine for the world’s betterment or the contrary.

That is why I felt ashamed. The attitude of the elderly Bulgarians reflected the lack of the correct action on my part, on our part, the Jews.

Why does such responsibility rest on the Jewish nation?

As it is written in the seminal book in Kabbalah, The Book of Zohar: “As the organs of the body cannot exist in the world even a minute without the heart, all the other nations cannot exist in the world without Israel.”

Similarly, in the words of the book Sefat Emet [True Language], of Yehuda Leib Arie Altar (ADMOR of Gur):

“The children of Israel became guarantors to correct the entire world … everything depends on the children of Israel. To the extent that they correct themselves, all creations follow them. As the students follow the teacher, the whole of creation follows the children of Israel.

What Is Israel’s Task in the Correction of the World?

Correction, according to our sages, means to become united, as a precondition to deliver that unity to the rest of the world. Until we implement our role, humanity’s demand for a better life with more social cohesion manifests as anti-Semitism that will never rest.

74 years ago saw the beginning of the Nuremberg trials, the prosecution of the heads of Nazi Germany leadership who were tried for planning and carrying out war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Back then, Germany was the most developed culture. It was easy to point out and condemn the guilty. Today, however, due to our living in a much more interdependent global world, if we were to place Israel’s haters in the dock, we would probably need to indict the whole of humanity. The number and range of anti-Semitic incidents is beyond comprehension, both percentage-wise and also in its expansion to faraway corners of the world.

With an instinctive will, the world feels that the springboard to a better, happier and more positively connected world is in the hands of the Jews. The Jews, however, disregard the nations of the world. We deal with selfish trifles that have nothing to do with our role to spread a spirit of unification to humanity. This angers the nations of the world. It is an animosity that is increasingly showing itself to reach abysmal hatred, and it explodes in our faces more and more.

However, I blame no one. I do not accuse any nation. I only judge one person: myself – myself and my people – the Jewish people. We have the choice. We assume the responsibility because we were given the method that can bring about a significantly positive shift in the world. The Israeli nation is a substantial part of the human puzzle, a part that has a role to unite, and then through our unity awaken the power of love and spread it to humanity, to be a “light unto the nations.”

The Israeli nation has to become aware of its duty and accurately interpret what the world wants from us. We must learn, analyze and internalize it first, and then explain it adequately to the nations of the world, so they can pressure us in a correct and peaceful way to fulfill our role, and not through crimes and threats.

Such a change of attitude toward us will happen when we help humanity unite and awaken the positive unifying power. We will then all experience a completely new and improved world filled with goodness.

Family And Marriage, Part 2

Laitman_504Is Family a Combination of Opposites?

Question: If a family is a combination of two opposites, then in order to create a good family would you need to find someone opposite to you in order to achieve better connection?

Answer: No, not necessarily. It depends on the level we are talking about.

If we are talking about the human, that is, animalistic, bodily level, then there is no need for improvisation. On the contrary, there should be similarity, and the closer, the better.

But if we are talking about development that cannot exist at the animalistic (bodily) level, then, of course, the oppositeness is needed.

From the point of view of Kabbalah, if people want to unite between themselves in a family, they should be as similar as possible to each other in their way of life, language, and everything that is possible.

Question: If we are talking about the family as a nation or all of humanity, then we must be different?

Answer: Yes. If we are talking about bringing everyone together, as they say, into one family, then this is the system of Adam HaRishon.

There already exists more pluralism and mutual remoteness, but at the same time there is agreement that it is necessary to unite over all problems and disagreements as much as the society raises itself.

laitman_942Question: During the convention, must the tens constantly mix, each lesson with a new ten?

Answer: What difference does it make? Shut your eyes as if you do not see and do not know which ten you are in: permanent or temporary. It is all a mirage. They are showing you one version of your soul, and then another one, and the third one. You must connect and merge with it and with the Creator who is inside it.

Question: How can you use happiness correctly? Should I awaken the left line more so that I am not carried away with too much happiness?

Answer: Happiness must be balanced with the goal, the precise approach, and the purpose for which you use this excitement. It is not about just being in a state of joy and having fun.

Question: I am very connected with my regular ten. Is it normal to imagine my permanent ten when I participate in a temporary ten? Or is this a bad approach?

Answer: It makes no difference. Imagine anything you want. The main thing is to connect everything together.

Question: Outside of the lesson when my ten and I are not in a lesson, in a common meal or on duty, can I be connected with the general ten in some way?

Answer: Certainly. What difference does it make if you are sitting with a part of this group or together with the entire group? A person should constantly be together with everyone in his thoughts and not become disconnected anywhere.
