The Study Of The Soul

202.0Question: “Psychology,” translated from Greek, is the study of the soul. In Hebrew, it sounds like Torat ha-Nefesh. Kabbalah is studying the concept of Neshama (soul). Still, there is a difference between Neshama and Nefesh. I would like to know what is that difference?

Answer: Neshama is a common soul, the totality of all our desires that raise a person to a level opposite to the nature of our world, the level of bestowal, love, unification. Kabbalah deals with the opposite of the originally created egoistic quality of man.

Question: Can we say that Nefesh is something of my individuality and Neshama is something in common?

Answer: If you do not consider that there are levels of Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida in Kabbalah, but simply take the feeling of a person within the framework of our world, then this can be called the nature of Nefesh (soul), i.e., the egoistic soul of every person in our world.

Two Concepts Of Existence

115.06Question: Why is all of humanity divided into Jews and other nations in our world?

Answer: A clear division of humanity into two parts occurred once in ancient Babylon. The small civilization that existed suddenly plunged into huge egoism.

The Babylonians decided to build a tower to the sky to reach the Creator, to fight with Him, i.e., with nature. They became so egoistically opposite that they stopped understanding each other.

This is how two concepts of further existence appeared. One of them was formed under the leadership of Abraham; the second was under the leadership of King Nimrod.

Abraham believed that the egoism that manifested itself, which makes us reject each other and forces us to be separated, was created specifically so that we would rise above it. If we do this despite the fact that we are in contradiction with each other and remember how we lived together when there was one law and one nation, then we will reveal a completely new form of existence in connection with each other.

And then, feeling ourselves above material nature, we will feel a completely different life: eternal, perfect, and not within the boundaries of our animal existence.

Abraham said that egoism is the means of our elevation. Let’s treat it this way, separate ourselves from it, look at the ego from the outside and begin to rise above it. Egoism will constantly grow, and we, constantly rising above it, will become like a common force of nature: love, bestowal, unity, harmony.

This was the methodology revealed by Abraham who became one of the leading ideologists of that time.

And Nimrod’s theory said: “No, egoism develops in us in order for science, art, and human society to progress. Let’s develop together with the ego, not rising above it, not looking at our egoistic nature from the outside, but living inside it.” Naturally, this theory received great support because it does not require a person to fight with himself.

So humanity was divided into two parts: a small part went with Abraham (literally a few dozen people) and the rest followed Nimrod. Abraham’s method was for connection, and the second was for separation.

Otherwise how can egoists who mutually hate each other get along on a small piece of land? Then the Babylonians settled all over the world. This is written in the book Genesis Rabbah, in the works of Josephus Flavius, and in other ancient sources.

The Sphere Of Kabbalah And The Sphere Of Psychology

962.3Comment: The goal of psychology is to improve the quality of material life. And the purpose of Kabbalah, as Baal HaSulam writes, is to reveal the Creator to the creatures in our world.

My Response: In principle, we are placed in a very interesting amount of impact on us by just one single force, the upper force of nature. You can call it the Creator or just nature in general.

If we do not improve ourselves in the quality of bestowal and love for the world around us, do not suppress our egoistic quality and do not develop the quality of altruism in ourselves, then we are within the framework of psychology.

This can be said both with respect to man and, to some extent, with respect to the animal, vegetative and even still levels of nature, which are below the level of “man.” By studying them, we practically study the psychology of our world, the reactions of interaction between all organisms and the governing force of nature.

But if we want to change ourselves in accordance with the upper force of nature, then we are already entering the realm of Kabbalah.

Psychology is designed to make people feel better and more confident in our world and only within the limited frame originally given to us by nature.

The alternative to it is that a person can develop himself above these limits, rise above his egoism, begin to explore the world in the quality of bestowal directed at others and not at himself, and then he will begin to study the second side of his essence, which is called “soul.”

The science of Kabbalah deals with this so that a person can go beyond our world, find out what really exists outside of it. After all, within the limits of our world, he only feels himself and what he captures inside himself.

But since our perception device is very limited, then, by developing ourselves to the quality of interconnectedness, love, bestowal, filling the world of others, we begin to feel reality in a different way. We feel a force that exists outside of us and affects us from the outside.

Universal Technique

226Question: Why do you only accept Kabbalah as the knowledge of the universe? The universe is one, the Creator is one. Why are you so categorical?

Answer: The more you study Kabbalah, the more you see that it includes all other methods. Nature does not reject them, but simply explains how humanity passes them at different levels of its development.

All of them take place until a person comes to a state where he can absorb a universal picture of the universe, the world, humanity, its development above his egoism, and then he comes to Kabbalah.

Therefore, Kabbalah was hidden until our time and only now is it gradually developing so that as a result of searching humanity goes through many different stages of development under the influence of other private methods that are studied within egoism, and not by rising above it, it comes to the conclusion that within egoism itself there is nothing to look for—just to get out of it, to rise above it.

By having gone through all these stages and studied them, I personally see the roots of all possible methods and theories, and therefore I teach only Kabbalah. I insist that it is nature that is the universal system for changing a person in this world and raising him or her to the highest level.

There are two forces in nature: reception and bestowal. Kabbalah aims to ensure that a person, working with egoism, can rise above the power of receiving and master the next level of nature—the power of bestowal.

The Three Vectors Of Evolution

548.02This wisdom is generally divided into two parallel, equal, and identical orders, like two drops in a pond. The only difference between them is that the first order extends from above downward, to this world, and the second order begins in this world and traverses from below upward precisely by the same routes and make-ups imprinted at their root when they appeared from above downward. (Baal HaSulam, “The Essence of the Wisdom of Kabbalah”)

We study that there are three axes, three lines, three vectors:

The first, a descent from the above downward from the world of Ein Sof to our world.

The second, the evolution in our world.

And the third, an ascent from the bottom upward to the world of Ein Sof, which means correction.

Question: Does this mean that our evolution has ended?

Answer: Not only has our evolution ended, it is reborn. If we don’t ascend upward, we see its maladies, like a fruit that rots if it is not picked in time.

We see that humanity has in fact become rotten. If we look at the time line, we reached the good right state in the 16th century. Today, however, we are in a state in which we should have started our ascent long ago, but unfortunately we are only preparing for it.

A long and demanding road from the bottom upward lies ahead, and everything has already been prepared for it: the wisdom of Kabbalah, books and different tools that explain how we should develop, how to establish a group, how to unite and to gradually reveal the Creator.

Question: What stems from the world of Ein Sof leads to the shattering etc., while what stems from our lowly world should lead to wholeness. What is the Creator’s rationale here?

Answer: The whole process is predetermined from the start in the thought of creation. The upper force enters us and shatters us.

Therefore, selfishness arises. Then, over almost 15 billion years, it evolves. And only then begins its correction, also with the help of the upper force.

But the correction takes place thanks to the fact that you draw the upper force that imfluences you in a wise and sensible way by raising MAN. When you raise your desire for correction, for unity, the light of correction descends unto you.

Why Are Nations Of The World Drawn To Kabbalah?

214Question: Why are nations of the world, who do not belong to Jewry by Halakha, drawn to the Kabbalistic method, and Jews are ready to do anything but Kabbalah?

Answer: First of all, nations of the world feel that there is something special, concealed, I would say fundamental, in Kabbalah.

In principle, all religions, beliefs, everything that a person can imagine about spirituality originated from it. “What is there outside of our world, outside of material life, those short years that we exist, outside of this small globe on the surface of which we are spinning like little bugs? Is there something in other dimensions, in other spaces, in other sections?”

These questions concern everyone. And practically all answers are tied to Kabbalah. Therefore, people are of other beliefs or religions do not get answers there, but they must believe and follow some traditions. No more than that.

And Kabbalah not only explains this to a person, but it takes him and raises him to a level at which he begins to see and feel a new dimension, exist above time, space, and movement, above what is our universe, our world.

Naturally, Kabbalah is becoming in demand especially in our time when as a result of the development of mankind we have come to a more or less mature state and we understand that our world ends there. And then what? The science of Kabbalah answers exactly this question.

Artificial Intelligence And Problem Solving

266Comment: People who are involved in management, but are unable to find a solution, propose to create artificial intelligence and delegate this task to it.

My Response: Artificial intelligence will not solve the problem of management. After all, management is not just the ability to lead and obey. It is an opportunity to coordinate various psychological and mental issues, all the worlds of each person with other people. Management is the highest psychology.

The fact is that, in an egoistic sense, you can create a machine since artificial intelligence is a primitive thing. It only chooses where it can win more and lose less with what degree of reliability, and so on.

These are fairly simple equations, but they do not fit an integral society and stop working, whether we like it or not. Here management should be laid on what is revealed in us by nature.

If humanity is, suppose, in a post-capitalist or some other state, but will act on the basis of medieval concepts, then nothing will come of it.

There should be a mutual understanding among people concerning the system of the new organization of production, management, and society, where they enter. We see that we will have to do this involuntarily, since all the systems are violated.

Therefore, every leader should know what internal laws manifest in society, in collectives, everywhere. Only through them will one be able to act.

Comment: But the goal of an ordinary enterprise or firm is to maximize profits at minimal costs.

My Response: The same is here. We adhere to all laws of nature. Their knowledge will allow us to correctly obtain the maximum profit at the minimum cost, including a minimum of violations in nature and society. This is called optimization of management.

Kabbalah And Philosophy: The Question Of The Meaning Of Life

219.01Question: Did philosophers of the past ask themselves the question about the meaning of life?

Answer: Yes, but they treated this issue in the same way as many people today, purely speculatively.

They did not understand that one must enter the upper world, feel it, open it up, and exist simultaneously in two worlds, through our world to see the next one, the spiritual one. They did not understand that it is the same as attaining our world, and therefore, they worked purely with reason.

Comment: You have repeatedly said that all spiritual methods and religions originated from Kabbalah, from Abraham.

My Response: Yes, they are even called Abrahamic.

Question: In that generation souls very close to nature prevailed, and it was enough for a person to ask the question: What is the meaning of my life? Why did so many become philosophers then?

Answer: It does not matter whether a person asked this question or not. All the same, one should have had a point in the heart, should nonetheless have felt that he was attracted by the revelation of the upper world, that he had to feel it, learn from his own experience and not think that he is already in the higher realm based on some mental or physical exercises.

Paths To The Question Of The Meaning Of Life

202Question: Why do Jews and the nations of the world come to the question of the meaning of life in different ways? The peoples of the world come to it from more of a quiet life, when everything is good for them, they have everything, and the Jews from suffering.

Answer: This comes from the fact that the nations of the world reach satiation and discover emptiness in themselves.

This is how ordinary egoism develops: it tries to fill itself all the time and because of thousands of years of effort concludes that it cannot be filled. What to do next? There is no reason to live. As a result, there is oblivion in drugs, suicide, divorce, in general, anything.

In addition, they are driven forward simply by curiosity, the crisis of all sciences, the insularity of this small world.

As for the Jews, it is very difficult to return to their original state again because of their complex internal hierarchical structure, which they absorbed and stayed in for 3,000  years. Because the spiritual tower they created in themselves and lived according to the laws of love and feeling spirituality now has turned within them into the opposite.

As a result of spiritual attainment, visions, sensations, all this turned into religion, into dogmas, into the mechanical fulfillment of the commandments, as in other religions that took their foundations from Judaism. They say that for the simple physical fulfillment of traditions, you will receive a future world after death and you do not need anything else.

But in the end, we see that the nations of the world will put pressure on Israel until they force it to turn to Kabbalah, reveal it for themselves, show an example to the whole world, and then teach this.

A Tool For Revealing The Upper World

209Question: If there is none so wise as the experienced, how can the text that describes the structure and mutual connection between spiritual bodies help me?

Answer: Kabbalistic texts are not meant to make you wiser. Not at all!

That text was written by a great Kabbalist who has been through this path. All of us, including you and me, have to undergo this path whether we like it or not, either in this lifetime or in our future reincarnations.

By reading what a Kabbalist wrote we summon the upper energy to us, the upper light, the good inclination, that ties us and brings us together.

We don’t understand this and sometimes we even feel that such an impact makes us feel repulsed by each other, but it is a temporary effect of start and stop, of going back and forth, which pulls us out of the dormant state that we are in so that we will begin to really get closer to each other and to the Creator.

So reading books is a tool for drawing the upper force, the upper light, so that it will unite us. In the unity between us we begin to attain the upper world, to see it like we see a movie, but more clearly, more emotionally, in our internal attributes. Can you imagine this? The movie is projected from inside you and you take a direct part in it. This is how the revelation of Kabbalistic texts works.
