When you Rejoice in Life

293.1Question: What if I keep advancing, I reach a certain spiritual degree, and suddenly it disappears completely?

Answer: Then I begin everything anew. That is wonderful! In fact, that is the most correct way.

Question: But at that moment I feel despair.

Answer: No. Why despair?

Comment: How could I not? I have come such a long way. I have devoted so many years to it.

My Response: So what? I am like someone who has just been born. Doesn’t a child open its eyes even wider?

Comment: That is true. You often remind us of a child in that way. Sometimes something suddenly amazes you. You still have that quality.

My Response: I do not feel tired. Of course, I may look tired because of my age and the passing years. But…

Question: You do not?

Answer: No. Every day, every lesson, every morning, I am ready to begin everything anew.

Question: To be born again?

Answer: Yes.

Question: When does a person begin to feel tired? Since we have touched on the subject.

Answer: When he no longer has the excitement of new desires and new questions. Then, of course, he can no longer reveal the child within him. Then he has already become an old man.

Question: Is that already movement toward death?

Answer: Yes.

Comment: So, when you speak about eternal life, you mean these constant…

My Response: Constant renewal.

Question: When is such constant renewal possible? Under what conditions?

Answer: Always. It does not depend on the body. It is the desire, and desire does not depend on the body.

Question: So should we always begin again? Constantly renew ourselves?

Answer: Yes, and it is wonderful!

Question: And what would you say to an ordinary person who does not study Kabbalah?

Answer: Nothing. Find yourself a hobby and keep at it.

Question: And keep rejoicing in new discoveries?

Answer: Yes. Just as my teacher used to say about a stadium, that it is a place that should be respected because it brings enjoyment to so many people.

Comment: That is amazing! I was always surprised that a religious man would say that. Religious people did not go to stadiums.

My Response: It is not that he did not go there, he had never been there even once.

Comment: Yet he still respected the place.

My Response: He had never seen it, but he knew that it was a game watched by one or even two hundred thousand people at the same time.

Question: So he felt that they had become like children again?

Answer: Yes, of course. They rejoice in life. And joy comes from the Creator. Therefore, he rejoiced for them because they were receiving pleasure from the Creator. At that moment, they were not cursing Him.

Comment: Then there is no suffering.

My Response: That is why such a place should be respected.

Happiness Is Not in the Battery

600.04Comment: In 2019 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to scientists for their work in lithium-ion batteries and were recognized for “laying the foundation of a wireless, fossil-fuel free society” (New York Times, 10/9/2019).

Until now, humanity was always tied to an electrical outlet and lived from the outlet. And here they have created a line of such batteries with which a person can move freely around the world.

My Response: In our time, of course, it means a lot if a person becomes freer from the outlet. But what comes next?

I do not think this discovery will free humanity. It will simply enslave it in another way. Everything is moving toward showing a person that happiness is not in the battery.

We see that humanity is not becoming happier. On the contrary, the more toys, technology, and all sorts of things it has, the more it becomes confused in its life.

Question: You often emphasize that no invention on our earthly level means anything to you?

Answer: It will give nothing. Absolutely nothing! But these inventions will lead humanity to the recognition of evil. Everything we invent, supposedly for the benefit of our egoism, ultimately leads us to evil and to the recognition of this evil.

Comment: So if humanity were to stop and invent nothing at all..

My Response: We cannot stop, because the same egoism drives us toward progress so that we will understand that we have no choice but to correct the ego itself.

Question: Why does humanity constantly invent more and more things?

Answer: It wants to achieve a calm, good life. But the result is the opposite.

Comment: Indeed: nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and immediately nuclear energy that wipes everything out.

My Response: Yes, and it is the same with everything. People cannot invent anything good or benevolent. Nothing at all!

Question: What invention would you call eternal, beneficial to humanity, and capable of leading it to happiness?

Answer: The correction of man’s evil nature—that alone. There is nothing else.

Comment: But first people must realize that they live with an evil nature.

My Response: That is precisely what drives them toward that realization. The world is in a state where it no longer knows what to do with itself.

At one time we thought that socialism, communism, or capitalism would save us, or something else, some form of freedom, liberalism, and so on. But everything very quickly leads to the realization of evil.

Comment: You used to say that humanity’s development was once a linear progression of egoism with the thinking things would get better and then communism would eventually arrive. But now egoism seems to have closed in on itself.

In other words, we have become interconnected, like a single village, yet the same old pursuits continue, and humanity still fails to grasp the evil nature within itself.

My Response: I think we will reach a point where humanity will say: “It would have been better if we had not invented this!” As for the atom, it can already say this today. And they will say the same about everything else.

And what was wrong with living in caves? What exactly?! Absolutely nothing. When people know what they have, they realize that it is enough for them.

Question: So huddled together around a fire, people were happier than those who today run around with electric batteries?

Answer: Of course! Without a doubt. There were more opportunities to be happy there.

Well, what can you do? It is written about this: “One who increases knowledge increases sorrow,” or “One who increases wealth increases suffering.”

Question: Do you think these sayings are still relevant today?

Answer: More than ever!

Question: We cannot help but increase our knowledge, can we? Egoism drives us.

Answer: We cannot. We cannot help but increase both wealth and knowledge. Egoism will constantly push us to do so.

The goal is to bring us to the recognition of evil, specifically that the evil lies in our very nature and evil lies in the fact that we believe the world we live in is what needs improving. But it cannot be improved; we must rise above it.

Question: In other words, we must change ourselves. Will we reach that point within our lifetime? I would love to see the truth of your words come to pass.

Answer: I do not believe that this will happen that quickly. But personally, that does not concern me. What difference does it make when it happens? Regardless of the state we are, it will happen to all of us eventually.

Start from Zero and End with Zero

962.7Question: How should an ordinary person live so as not to divide life into periods of unhappiness and happiness, unhappiness and happiness?

Answer: Treat each day as an entire lifetime. Start from zero and end with zero. Give yourself completely during that day.

Question: In other words, live that day as if it were a whole life?

Answer: Yes, that is all. Tomorrow, I will wake up, and it will be a new life.

Question: How can I motivate myself so that from morning until evening I live fully, as though I were living an entire lifetime of 120 years in one day?

Answer: My students obligate me. I feel a sense of fear in front of them. Fear. I am obligated, I owe them. I have no right to leave them as they are. I must push them forward, inspire them. I must constantly awaken them. All of this concerns me deeply.

As for myself, no. I try not to make any calculations concerning myself.

Question: So the task is to give yourself completely?

Answer: The task is that before the morning lesson begins, when I wake up, even before I start preparing for the day, I consider myself already dead. Yes, dead. I need nothing from life except to give everything I have today.

Question: By “dead,” do you mean that I no longer exist? That I have no concern for myself, and that is how I go out into the world?

Answer: Exactly.

Question: So this is how I should start the day and how I should spend it?

Answer: Of course. Then you have a very correct accounting with yourself, with life, and with your students. After that, whatever happens is already in the hands of the Creator.

Question: If we apply this to an ordinary person, can he have the same attitude toward his family and children?

Answer: Absolutely the same. He sets himself aside and gives himself to others, to the world.

Question: To family, to those close to him, and to those far away?

Answer: Yes. Live this way, give yourself. You cannot imagine how good, light, free, and most importantly, how correct it is. But you will constantly be in tension: are you truly giving yourself to them?

Question: Is that a good kind of tension? Is there an element of happiness in it?

Answer: That is happiness.

We Are Looking for Happiness in the Wrong Place

200.01Question: You say: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But I do not hear you, for example. How do I come to the conclusion that these are exactly the gates that I must enter?

Answer: You will bump your nose against these gates and understand that there cannot be any other gates! And besides these gates there is nothing, just emptiness.

Question: Is this what is written by the great Kabbalists, that you walk along the wall and there are no gates? And suddenly at some point, when you are already walking exhausted, you suddenly see—gates. And it turns out they were always there.

Answer: Yes.

Question: And I did not see them?

Answer: No.

Question: And what did I need to see them? They were always there, they were!

Answer: You lack disappointment.

Question: So I must be disappointed in everything?

Answer: Absolutely. In everything! So that only one thing remains: Dvekut (spiritual adhesion) and brotherhood! We do not know what that is. We keep using substitutes and surrogates. But then we will feel it.

Question: Can you at least give a hint? It is clear that if we do not feel, then we might not be able to hear you. But what do you mean by “brotherhood”?

Answer: Brotherhood is when we all find ourselves in one desire, one intention, in complete fusion, in the connection of everyone with everyone. And we return again to the system that is called “Adam,” like a single person in one body, in one heart. This is the correct future.

This must stand before us! This is how this future must stand before me as an obvious, achievable, necessary state.

Question: You just painted what we must come to after all our wanderings and disappointments?

Answer: Precisely why they are needed—to arrive at this state.

Has Humanity Being Become Happier?

626Question: Software engineer Steve Wozniak, who together with Steve Jobs created the Apple empire, when answering the question, “Has a human being become happier after the invention of the personal computer?” said: “This is a very complex question. At one time I thought that if we made people’s lives easier, it would bring them happiness. They would work less. However, they began to work even more. Now a family must be supported by two working people, not one. I think that if we compare ourselves with primitive people by the level of happiness, it will be approximately the same.

At one time Steve Jobs and I dreamed of creating a gadget that would make blind people able to see. But now when I enter the subway and see that everyone is sitting with their faces buried in their phones, I understand that we have made all sighted people blind.”

Do you agree that we are a blind humanity?

Answer: We still have to realize that all innovations in electronics are intended only to limit us in sensations, in the perception of the world, in the sensation of life.

I look at a small screen that fits into the palm of my hand, and for me nothing else exists. Through it I supposedly connect with the world. But whom do I actually connect with? With some office, some intermediary that “pushes” everything it wishes onto me. A person has not become free, but more dependent. We are becoming bigger and bigger slaves.

Moreover, with the help of electronics and everything else, many normal professions have disappeared. A profession is not only something that gives people the opportunity to earn money. The most important thing in a profession is that a person feels that they are suitable for coexistence with others. A profession is a method of communication between people. I am a tailor, you are a shoemaker, a doctor, a lawyer, and so on.

It does not matter who or how, but we communicate; we need one another.

And if we will not need one another and will only stare into mobile phones, then it is the same as giving an injection or a pill. People will fall asleep, and all kinds of movies will be spun in their heads, or they will be removed from life altogether.

Question: What scenario is laid down by the upper force?

Answer: This scenario is very simple; it is called “recognition of evil.”

We will be obliged to recognize the evil of our egoistic development and to understand that it leads us into a dead end, and that we must get rid of it, break out of it in a leap, rush away from it anywhere, headlong. I hope that someday we will do this.

For now we are trying to explain this to people. But how much they listen, that is a question. Still, here and there the first shots are already beginning to break through.

Question: That is, will we advance further and further in technologies in order to understand that they will lead us nowhere?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is that why they are developing?

Answer: No, development must be internal. External development is not necessary at all.

But if we do not develop internally, then external electronic development reveals emptiness, and nevertheless brings us back to the beginning.

Rise and Shine!

249Question: One needs to train oneself to rejoice. They say that rejoicing is a habit. What do you think?

Answer: I think this is very correct.

Question: Can one train oneself to rejoice despite the fact that one is being battered from all sides?

Answer: You are being battered, so what? Some circumstances come, some forces come and batter you. And you sing. Just sing! This is the most important thing for a person. Because in truth, he does not know what is good and what is bad, or how to relate correctly to life, or how to change his life—whether what comes to him is for his benefit or to his detriment.

Therefore he must accept all of this as good and relate to everything that happens as to necessary good. And so, how can he relate to it? Sing!

Question: Just like that?

Answer: The answer is a simple yes.

Question: Whatever comes, right? Whatever is inside you, like “There is only a moment between the past and the future”?

Answer: No, that’s not it! Better: “Rise and shine! Rise and shine! Try it at least once in your life.”

Comment: Yes. Exactly.

My Response: That is how they used to sing once.

This Is Happiness

294.2Question: You keep talking about good connections, about the fact that people must draw closer to one another. But what if everyone says: “Here, I have a piece of clay.” And each one says this: “So do I, and I have one too. Let’s build a little house for us.” Will it work, or will it not work?

Answer: No.

Question: It would not?

Answer: You must understand what is missing in this piece of clay. What is missing is the inner connection of all the pieces, of everyone’s, everyone’s. And then, in the merging of our hearts, we return to the state called Adam, similar to the Creator.

Question: In what was he similar?

Answer: Before his shattering, before being divided into billions of parts, this was an angel. That is, an absolutely good, absolutely righteous, correct intention, which together with the Creator carried out everything necessary for a perfect world.

Question: Was this a single intention for everyone? One single soul like that? Can one say so? All souls were merged into one single soul?

Answer: Yes.

Question: You are speaking about what existed in the beginning, and then everything shattered into fragments, and the fragments of the soul fell, as they say, into this world of ours. And we must return to that state?

Answer: Yes. We must realize that we are in a shattered state and that we must return to a unified state. This is precisely what is called assembling the pieces of clay that each one has.

Question: When you say “assemble the pieces of clay,” what do you mean?

Answer: Merging, connection, the unification of hearts.

Question: So this is the material from which we must mold happiness?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And only then will there be happiness?

Answer: And then there will be what the Creator intended.

Question: And did He intend that we would be happy?

Answer: Of course!

Question: What is happiness, in the Creator’s understanding, in your opinion?

Answer: Happiness, in the Creator’s understanding, is the connection of everyone together into one single desire, into one single action, when we feel no shattering whatsoever between us. Then what we experience is called happiness. This is the definition of happiness.

Happiness Is a Cure for All Diseases

745.01Question: It would seem that the greater the number of people a person comes into contact with, the higher the risk of catching something and falling ill. Yet studies show that a person living in isolation from others has a much higher chance of dying from disease. Why does this contradiction arise?

Answer: There were periods in human history when terrible epidemics raged in Europe. Because people lived densely in cities, these epidemics led to real catastrophes and claimed millions of lives. If a person lived in a remote village, they had a better chance of escaping an epidemic.

But today humanity has already passed through this era of major epidemics. Recent studies show that in our time, a sense of connection and happiness has such power that it can overcome all problems and illnesses. After all, we live in a different era.

I read about a study conducted at some university involving three teenagers suffering from extremely severe forms of cancer. They were asked what they would like in their lives, and they were promised that any wish would be fulfilled. One boy wanted to fly in an airplane in the pilot’s cockpit, and one girl wanted to be a queen. All these wishes were fulfilled.

For the girl, a royal reception was organized at the university. Students dressed in historical costumes paid her royal honors. After this, it was discovered that the patients’ conditions improved by 80%.

Of course, it is impossible to treat all diseases in this way alone. There are diseases of different levels—inanimate, vegetative, animal, and human depending on which systems of the body are affected. But cancer in particular is very susceptible to such influence, and it retreats in the face of a feeling of happiness. Happiness heals even in the most hopeless conditions.

In such cases doctors advise patients to do what they enjoy: travel, drink wine, enjoy life. And the most healing thing is the support of one’s surroundings—love, help, and protection. The problem is that people often act in exactly the opposite way, and begin to pity the sick person and cry together with them. By doing so, they immediately bury them.

The further we develop and attain connection with the force that sustains all our life, the entire universe, and all levels of our existence, the better we will learn to heal all problems through the feeling of happiness. And we will understand that happiness is attained only within connection.

That is, first and foremost we need unity. By uniting we reveal the connection between us, within which we feel the force that unites us and gives us a feeling of happiness. And through this feeling of happiness we heal all problems.

Find The Formula For Happiness

Then Happiness Will Follow You

443Question: Do we need to seek out happiness or not? Or is it also in the hands of the Creator?

Answer: I do not think it is possible to find it. I do not think happiness can be found. Happiness must be created. That is, you need to put yourself in a state where you know exactly how to force it to be revealed, then you will see it.

Question: A very important question is: “What do you mean by the word ‘happiness’ when you say it now?”

Answer: By happiness I mean a feeling that one’s life has been a success.

Question: Does one have such a feeling toward the end of his life, or throughout his life: ”I am living the right life; my life is a success”? How is it?

Answer: No, I think it happens toward the end.

Question: So is it always a work in progress? Does it follow that our life is a constant work in progress?

Answer: Yes, it is when a person is still looking for more and more, to rebuild his life over and over again so that it brings the happiness one envisions. Let us say that ii is making people happy, making his family happy, whatever a person can imagine.

Question: So are you now directing the vector “away from me”—to make others happy. This is what you keep talking about. Is this how I discover the meaning of life? So in a way, do I come to the conclusion that this is what brings me happiness?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is this constant work?

Answer: It is a constant job that can never stop. And a person should clearly understand how to do this.

Comment: But along the way, one gets disappointed, climbs up again, and so on.

My Response: I do not know about getting disappointed. He just has to imagine his path. And then “the traveler will master the path.”

Comment: That is, in order for happiness to follow you, it does not mean that you are happy; you have to work all the time to make others happy. And it is not easy, as we understand it.

My Response: It does not matter that it is not easy. Is anything easy in life? Nothing is easy.

Question: But is this the path? This particular path?

Answer: Yes.

Question: When you say “the path of light” and “the path of darkness,” what do you mean by that?

Answer: The path of light is when you bring light to people. And the path of darkness is when you cannot do it.

Question: Cannot or will not?

Answer: I believe that “cannot” and “will not” are the same.

Nothing Affects the Creator

032.06Comment: What kind of game as adults should we have now?

Answer: Playing seriously means playing the Creator.

Comment: Explain what it is.

My Response: It is to make sure the Creator is among us in all our thoughts and actions. This is called playing seriously.

Question: Can we say that before I do anything, I try to appeal to the Creator?

Answer: Yes, and to imagine you are doing this for Him, for His benefit, for His sake. For Him means for the sake of others. Nothing affects the Creator; He needs nothing. There is only one possibility, which is to get the strength from Him to act for the sake of others.

Question: It turns out the formula “I want to be happy” changes to “I want people to be happy so everyone around me is happy?”

Answer: But really happy. Not the way I want them to be happy, but the way the Creator wants them to be happy. Because this is the law of the universe. It is absolute and objective.

Question: How precise everything is! So how does He want people to be happy? What is it for the Creator?

Answer: Try to move into other people’s shoes, transition there, and start feeling what is most important to them. And build it together with them.

Question: When transitioning, what do you think will be the most important thing for people?

Answer: To feel close to each other.

Question: Is this it? Is that the only thing deep inside a person?

Answer: Yes, a person begins to feel perfection in this.

Question: So there is peace, happiness, and security in it?

Answer: It is the completion of everything. Not the end, but completion, pure perfection.

Question: So are all people close? Are all people brothers and sisters?

Answer: Yes, they generally disappear in the form they are in now. They simply enter the realm of perfection.

Question: So if now I want to use another for my benefit, there I would want to give myself completely to someone else?

Answer: Yes, this is what giving ourselves to each other is all about. It is called Hashpaa in Kabbalah, bestowal. This is the state of perfection; the spiritual state.

Comment: We are engaged in a great science after all.

My Response: It is yet to be revealed! It will be further developed and broken down into feelings.
