Question: Did the events described in the Torah really take place in this world? In one of your programs you said that we have to go through the whole story of the Torah inside ourselves.

Answer: Of course, all the words in the Torah took place in this world because every upper spiritual root has to develop and eventually touch its material branch.

This is why we went through the entire process in this world: Adam HaRishon and all further generations up to Abraham, and further on through our forefathers Isaac and Jacob, Jacob’s sons, then lowering to Egypt, Moshe, Aaron, the standing at the Mount Sinai, the entrance to the land of Israel, conquering the land of Israel, the destruction of the First and the Second Temples, etc.

Anything we have been through in this world is only one side of the picture. The most important thing is our current state and what events described in the Torah we still have to go through.

The Torah is not about historic events; rather, it is about what we are supposed to correct after Adam HaRishon’s sin. As a result of our correction, we will attain the spiritual world that is eternal and endless; it is here and now, as soon as we agree to go through the process of correction, as is written: “You shall see your world during your lifetime.”

The Torah, “Numbers” 9:14: If a proselyte dwells with you, and he makes a Passover sacrifice to the Lord, according to the statutes of the Passover sacrifice and its ordinances he shall make it. One statute shall apply to you, to the proselyte and to the native-born citizen.

A proselyte refers to the desire that can be added to the desires that already have been corrected. When you choose a desire from the egoistic desires called the nations of the world that can be added to the attribute of bestowal called Israel (from the words, Yashar El, straight to God), it no longer is considered a proselyte.

It is the same law for everyone. Therefore, it says that even complete righteous cannot stand in the place where those who repent stand.

It is because a person who repents and returns to the Creator brings with him the greatest ego as he corrects the increasingly more internal egoistic parts, which leads to an ascent that the righteous, the pioneers, cannot bring about. This is how the spiritual system works.

This means that the nations of the world that join Israel don’t simply ascend to that level but actually ascend higher than that since they bring such egoistic attributes with them that do not exist in Israel.

Therefore, it is said, “There is wisdom among the nations, believe it…,” which means that, during the correction of the strongest egoistic desires, they ascend higher than all the others.

Question: How does the wisdom of Kabbalah relate to competition?

Answer: According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, competition is very important. As it is said, “The envy of sages increases wisdom.” I believe that it is vital. What could we achieve if there were no competition? The great inventors, Nicola Tesla and Thomas Edison, for example, made great discoveries in the field of electrical engineering and invented the dynamo generators, devices operating on alternating current, etc.

Interestingly, many great discoveries that have been very beneficial for mankind stemmed from childish competition and the desire not to let others be ahead of you. At the same time, scientists are not really interested in money but want to determine their self: “I will prove that I am better.”

It is impossible to succeed without competition. Real competition always leads to the emergence of a new attribute.

Competition is very beneficial, even for children.

However, everything must be within the normal egoistic limits that we understand: “I wish to learn from others.” To learn from others means to be like them. However, to be like them means to compete against yourself in order to reach a certain level.

Therefore, there are two types of competition. It can be competition that motivates and competition that kills. There is always the element of envy in it, but the question is whether I wish to crush my competitor or whether, thanks to his example, I want to be like him or even greater. This is the reason that there are both positive and negative aspects to competition.

Comment: If I were a doctor in the future generation and signs of emptiness, depression, being closed, and despair appeared in my patient, I would not extinguish these signs with the help of pills; rather, I would explain to him towards what he was heading and aim him in the right direction.

Answer: I think that in the future, instead of doctors there will be guides who provide people with their new states, through training, education, preparation of internal, psychological, and spiritual workshops that bring the person out to a feeling of outer space. So instead of being closed within himself and only feeling the entire environment within himself, as happens today, it is necessary to bring the person out to a feeling of what is outside of him. This will be the role of the new worldwide university, and now that a passage towards a new need is happening within humanity, a new evaluation of life, we need to think about creating a completely new educational network.

Comment: The great Kabbalist Baal HaSulam spoke about the return of the Jews to the corporeal land of Israel as the revival of the nation and an opportunity to fulfill its goal.

Answer: The point is that the people who have returned to this land have to organize and unite in the form of the nation of Israel. It isn’t just a collection of people who have been living here for 70 years after the establishment of the country or for 130 years since the first wave of settlers, the first Aliyah. We must first understand the basis on which a new state and a new nation can grow so that it can really be called the nation of Israel, which means that is focused straight to the Creator, at the attribute of love and bestowal. This isn’t the situation at the moment.

Herzl also dreamed about gathering all the Jews here, which was physically right but for which the nation wasn’t ideology ready. The state was established on socialistic principles and disputes that couldn’t lead to anything positive.

Comment: Baal HaSulam hoped that there would be some revolution and that the Creator, which means the law of love and attribute we live in, would bring us to this land and compress us into one whole.

Answer: In the 20’s of the previous century Baal HaSulam thought that he could bring 3.5 million Jews here, mainly from Poland. This could have been a great ascent for the state before it was established. In addition, he hoped that he could raise them ideologically and that although they were all from Jewish villages, he would be able to tell them what their mission comes down to. He dreamed that he would have a small circle of ten students and that they would work together and study and that the mutual relations between them would make waves of true unity. But this was not realized.

The hope was that the nation that gathered in Israel would become a one unified whole in time, but actually it turned out to be the other way around: it dispersed and disintegrated. Even today the social stratification continues and so does the opposition of one part towards the other. This will go on until things explode and we will be thrown to every corner on earth. The Torah says that if we are not compatible with this land, it will chew us up and vomit us out. If we are compatible with it, it will be a land flowing with milk and honey for us. Unfortunately, in the meantime we are nearing the state in which we will find ourselves on the outside.

Question: So what can we do if even the greatest Kabbalist of the 20^th century didn’t manage to accomplish this?

Answer: Baal HaSulam didn’t succeed because people didn’t listen to him. He is not to blame and neither are the others; we simply have to work harder. Today we have many more opportunities and we try to do whatever depends on us in order to set an example of connection and unity for the world. This isn’t easy either, but we are trying, and let’s hope that we will eventually succeed.

The Torah, “Numbers” 9:13: But the man who was ritually clean and was not on a journey, yet refrained from making the Passover sacrifice, his soul shall be cut off from his people, for he did not bring the offering of the Lord in its appointed time; that person shall bear his sin.

If a person feels that he is pure and that there is no egoism in him that can be corrected, it means that he hasn’t worked on himself the whole year and has nothing to offer as sacrifice. The word “sacrifice” in Hebrew stems from the word “to get closer” and to rise to a higher level.

This is why this weekly section of the Torah is called BeHaalotcha (as you rise). Thus a person who hasn’t revealed and exposed anything in him and has nothing to correct because he considers himself perfect cannot ascend the spiritual levels. Such a person has nothing to advance with. However a person who systematically cleans his “stables” and sees what he can correct and what he can’t and brings to the Menorah what he can correct so that it can be corrected gets closer to the Creator.

Comment: A person is considered holy in our world if people believe that he is pure and has nothing to correct.

Answer: No! A holy man is someone who constantly finds the “carrion” inside him and continuously reveals and exposes increasingly greater reasons inside him for correction and fulfills that. He is constantly dynamic and there is no end to it.

Question: You explain that the wisdom of Kabbalah gives the answer to the question: “What does a person live for?” I still don’t understand what the answer to this question is. What do we live for?

Answer: We live so we can answer the question, “What do we live for?” After all, when we answer this question we attain the purpose of life, its meaning.

Question: What is the purpose of life?

Answer: The purpose of life is to attain the root, the upper force. As soon as you attain it you reveal the new path of development. You start becoming similar in a greater way to this upper force. Then you attain yourself and the surrounding reality in a completely different way. You attain it in the new senses. You reveal a higher world.

Then our corporeal world becomes only a means for you. But the most important thing for you is to attain the upper force in its entire fullness, to become similar to it in order to be the same as this force. This is the purpose of life.

Question: Recently I hear you talking about an imaginary reality we exist in. But I hear you; you are talking to me. And I am trying to understand, what is imaginary here? If this is imaginary, then what really exists?

Answer: That’s right. What appears to us as reality that we perceive now is called an imaginary reality because it exists only in our imagination.

It seems to us that we are within a reality, while in fact that reality is within us. Everything is the other way around! This is revealed to Kabbalists the moment they begin to enter the perception of the spiritual world. Right now we have a hard time agreeing with this. But this is what Kabbalists tell us.

One who begins to feel the upper world understands that the reality we perceive now is imaginary. It exists in our five senses that depict an imaginary picture to us where we are in a huge world and everything surrounds us. In essence, everything is inside of us.

Modern physicists in their latest discoveries say that we are in a made-up reality, in some computer program, and we cannot say that the world we feel exists objectively. It exists in our perception, our senses.
