Competition As An Engine For Social Development

laitman_547_06Question: For an ordinary person success means family, an orderly life, financial security, safety, or in short, everything that is attained through competition. But he has already grown tired of this chase. How can he reach a simple normal life that he can consider successful?

Answer: It is becoming very simple in our world. If we are speaking about a corporeal body, we have to provide it with healthcare, a pension, and a good environment. But one person cannot achieve success that way. It is attained by society, by all its members together. This is the reason that a person has to create an environment that will provide him with healthcare and a stable life, with everything that he needs.

Question: But in our society success is attained through competition. Can it be attained differently?

Answer: In our society success is attained through competition because our egoism has two directions. One is to dominate others and to be above them, which puts a person under great stress and leads to great waste of energy and constant pressures. The other direction is the attraction of the corporeal body (the same egoism) to complete rest. These two opposites exist in us and make competition a necessity. It awakens us and forces us to work hard.

What is more, the conditions of competition can be very different: the competitor can be my rival or my colleague. I am basically for competition when it comes to good deeds, when a person struggles to do something for the sake of society.

Imaginary And True Freedom, Part 7 – Approach To A New Paradigm

laitman_278_01Question: When I go “out of myself,” do I become someone else and completely identify myself with all the processes of nature?

Answer: You could say that. But the fact is that there is much more change. After changing our entire psychology, after changing our perception of the world to other worlds, nothing is left of us from the past.

Now we cannot talk about the state “outside of myself” because it is difficult for us to describe it. Today we are only in an egoistic paradigm and our point in the heart demands that we leave this paradigm. We are slowly but surely approaching what is needed to go out to the next level of existence; nature is driving us towards this. But in the meantime, this need is implemented in the form of depression, drugs, terrorism, and an inability to solve any problems.

The Twilight Of Pesach

Laitman_119The Torah, ‘Numbers” 9:12: They shall not leave over anything from it until the next morning, and they shall not break any of its bones. They shall make it in accordance with all the statutes connected with the Passover sacrifice.

Question: It is written, “They shall not leave over anything from it until the next morning…” Why does the exodus from Egypt take place during twilight?

Answer: Twilight is a state in which you cannot scrutinize or discern anything. You cannot even identify a familiar person who is four steps away from you. This is the reason that the word “evening”—Erev in Hebrew—stems from the word, “to mix.”

The state of twilight symbolizes a person’s strong doubts.

Question: Why is it forbidden to break the bones of the Pesach sacrifice?

Answer: The bones symbolize Yesod, the basis on which all the other attributes are dressed. Our attributes must remain the way they initially were given to us, and we must not corrupt them in any way. We only need to choose which of them can be corrected and not touch the others.

This is referred to by “they shall not break any of its bones,” which means taking the basis and advancing with it.

The Premonitions Of The Big Anti-Semites

laitman_281_02Question: After the Second World War was a period of temporary peace and calm for the Jewish people, and mankind agreed to give them the land of Israel. Did this happen because of the afflictions the Jews had undergone or because the world had a feeling that their return to their land would lay the foundations for the unity of the Jewish people and that humanity will benefit from it?

Answer: I cannot say that humanity understands the state it is in with regard to the Jews, to their country, and to their mission; yet, from ancient times until our days and especially in the 20th century there were many philosophers who felt that. There were quite a few anti-Semitic philosophers among them who didn’t really understand why they felt such hatred towards the Jews.

The famous industrialist Henry Ford, a staunch anti-Semite said that: “the Jewish nation is obliged to fulfill the old prophecies according to which the Jewish people and all the nations of the world will be blessed by them and they have to start working in order to accomplish that. If the Jewish people recognized that their mission, their global role, cannot be fulfilled by the golden calf, its global citizenship with regards to humanity and its ongoing national isolation with regards to itself would turn out to be a strong and fruitful factor in uniting humanity, which is bothered so much by the conduct of the Jews.”

There isn’t one great scientist who didn’t point at or tried to understand the role of the Jewish people to some extent, since they possess the cornerstone of human evolution with which the world has to start the ascent, not to continue its path on the plain, but to rise upwards. This was argued by all the great minds, but interestingly, to the extent that everyone expresses himself anti-Semitically, he also expresses himself in favor of the Semitic nation. This worked out for them just fine since they realized that there is a turning point here, when the Jews begin to fulfill their mission of unity and give everyone an opportunity, strength, and an example to follow.

Imaginary And True Freedom, Part 6 – True Freedom

laitman_527_03Question: Is going “out of yourself” towards love for others, true freedom or imaginary?

Answer: This specifically is freedom. It is because when I rise above myself and go out towards love of others, I don’t just move myself into the others and instead of my ego another person enslaves me.

No. In going out of myself, I go to the next level of existence and thus detach from myself.

I stop seeing this world in the same form I see it through my five egoistic senses, and I begin to look at it through five altruistic senses: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Zeir Anpin, and Malchut. They are completely different senses.

I begin to see our world as eternal, infinite, and whole, and I see myself in the same way. And that selfish piece that always held me and didn’t let go of me can no longer hold me; I am detached from it and begin my free flight.

Now I am not limited in any way, not in realizing love, not in realizing my mutual connection, and not in anything else. I enter into a new space that is not enclosed within the “pot” of this world; my “self” is determined there by my connection with everyone else.

Everything that is found outside of me is all my “self” because I have moved into another space within only one point, which in principle is what awakens me. Specifically within this point, thanks to which I somehow felt myself within a pot, I leave the closed space. Everything else remains within the pot.

At The People’s Service

Laitman_043The Torah, “Numbers” 8:9 – 8:14: You shall bring the Levites in front of the Tent of Meeting, and you shall gather the entire congregation of the children of Israel. You shall bring the Levites before the Lord, and the children of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites.

Then Aaron shall lift up the Levites as a waving before the Lord on behalf of the children of Israel, that they may serve in the Lord’s service. The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and make one as a sin offering and one as a burnt offering to the Lord, to atone for the Levites. You shall present the Levites before Aaron and his sons, and lift them as a waving before the Lord. Thus shall you set apart the Levites from the midst of the children of Israel, and the Levites shall become Mine.

If we accept what the Torah says literally, we can see a whole opera here with the Levites standing on the stairs, singing Shir Hama’alot, lighting the Menorah, which illuminates by itself, and so forth.

However, in fact, everything takes place inside a person who must compare and scrutinize everything in order to bring his attributes together into the right schema. When we gather the different attributes inside us, we must put the jigsaw puzzle together in the right order, and when it is ready, it will become the basis of the soul and will begin to illuminate.

When all of the attributes of the soul are collected in the right relationships to each other, when they complement one another and yearn to bestow unto the Creator, the schema we have put together and that we have created begins to radiate Light.

All the energy, all of the upper Light is in this schema from the start, and if we connect all our attributes correctly, it is revealed in it. At the same time, the ego and the inner resistance still remain in us while, above them and actually thanks to them, the revelation of the attribute of love and bestowal, the attribute of unity, begins. This means that the ego, the restriction, the Masach (Screen) and the Light appear simultaneously.

It is written, “You shall bring the Levites in front of the Tent of Meeting…” This refers to a person’s attributes called “Levites” that must ascend to the level of the revelation of the Creator, but they cannot ascend on their own because the Levites only have the attributes of bestowal (GE).

They don’t have any ego or a desire to receive. This is the reason that their work comes down to serving the people, working as the nation’s educators and teachers. On the one hand, they must collect the tithe and bring it to Jerusalem, and then spread out again in order to teach the people. But because they cannot do it on their own, Moses does that by bringing them to the tent of meeting.

Success Is A Relative Concept

laitman_539Question: Can there be success without competition?

Answer: It depends on what you consider success to be. For example, if I am criticized in newspapers, I consider this a success: they have paid attention to me. Someone else may consider this a misfortune, but I don’t care.

I believe that if someone is right, let him be scolded, so what? Perhaps people cannot comprehend his actions in any other way. So success is a relative concept.

I do not mind being criticized in all publications and on the Internet, even if I am called the most horrible and harmful for humanity. In some way it draws attention to what I strive to deliver to the world. And when they read my articles maybe they will be impacted somehow.

Question: Why do you need that kind of success?

Answer: People will become interested in why I am being criticized, and thus they will get to learn and feel a little bit about what I am saying concerning correcting the world and the fact that human beings have an opportunity to come to a better state of existence instead of a third world war. I want to leave some lasting imprint on them.

Question: Let’s suppose that you are given permission to publish four lines. What would you write?

Answer: It goes without saying that nothing can be explained in four lines. I can offer people replacing suffering with happiness, fear of death with a sense of eternity. And if they are not indifferent to these things, everything else can be learned from within the method itself.
