Accumulation of Emotional and Mental Experience

58Comment: Let’s say you lived and a certain quality was revealed in you. You have begun to develop, have become a great Kabbalist, and have reached a certain point, and now from this point you look at what qualities your experiences have revealed to you so that you can perceive the Creator now.

My Response: These qualities gave me the opportunity for an objective clear separation from myself, an understanding of the opposite qualities of bestowal and love, comprehension of the system of the universe, and connections, and to the extent that I can correctly implement these connections, the ability to control my destiny and to lead myself.

That is, by consciously, anti-egoistically, and with the efforts that I try to evoke in myself, I attract an upper force and constantly improve myself under its influence.

Question: And what if you were given this awareness without going through various states and were given them automatically?

Answer: No, I wouldn’t feel anything. There is no wiser person than one who has experienced all the stages of development. There is no one who can do it without gradually having endured those feelings.

It’s just like how experiences accumulate in small children. I once flew to Europe and back with my four-year-old grandson. He didn’t know what an airplane was, for him it was a huge steel bird that constantly buzzes. What did he understand about it? Nothing.

And if a person had gone through all this, suffered, studied, and learned how and what, then it would be a completely different matter. The child, rising into the air, does not know what air is, what oxygen is, and why everything works like this. It’s impossible to convey! All this must be lived! In fact, we think it’s just an experience. This is not just an experience, but the development of our inner ability to feel those phenomena that we would not otherwise feel.

What is the difference between a small child and an adult? It’s the fact that an adult has vast experience, the accumulation of a mass of sensory and mental data that a child does not have. And if we could put all this into a child, just fill him up, could he be like an adult?

You wouldn’t be able to put all the data into him that, say, a 30-year-old person has. You couldn’t! Because it would take you 20 years to do that. The program should be filled in gradually, like in a computer.

Sometimes I have such programs install for almost an hour. Why? What’s the problem? Just give an injection, put an infusion in… no, the program should reformat itself, remove, erase, reboot, etc.

That’s how it works, 20 years until a person grows up. Otherwise, he will not be able to load himself up. He must live through all that! There are no such feelings in the computer, there are billions of operations, zero-one and that’s it. But a person must feel and store all this, compare it, and connect it with the past. This includes everything: fantasies, intentions, and mistakes.

This is the whole program.

A Woman of the 21st Century, Part 1

630.2History knows many women who were pioneers that paved the way and made changes in the world that laid the foundation for a more progressive society. Usually, heroic efforts were required from a woman in order to break through the established stereotypes and go against accepted norms and cultural traditions.

Yet, most of history was written by men, and there are very few female names in it. Women have always remained in the background. After all, history develops in accordance with the general structure of society, the universe, and the entire creation, which consists of ten Sefirot.

This structure develops from above downward, from the Sefira Keter to Malchut. Although everything is intended for Malchut, for the female part of the structure, until her turn comes, until the whole system develops, the role of the woman is concealed.

This is evident throughout history, among all nations, and at all times. Only in the people of Israel has the role of a woman always been more pronounced than in others, as is evident by these names from the Tanakh: Eve, Adam’s wife, and the great prophetess Batya, Pharaoh’s daughter who raised Moses.

“Batya” means “the daughter of the Creator” (Bet-Yod-Hey), which indicates her supreme destiny. The Tanakh tells about many women who played a special role in history, and always a positive one.

During the last exile of 2,000 years, the role of a woman went into even greater concealment. The longer and deeper the exile was, the more so the role of a woman remained in the shadows. Now, as we come out of this exile, women are getting more and more freedom and an increasingly important role. Especially big changes took place in the last century and even more so in our 21st century when a woman becomes the dominant part in development.

This is very noticeable in the modern world where so many women hold leadership positions in enterprises and even as heads of countries. Not only is female power growing, but the image of a woman is becoming increasingly important. As a result, we see that the entire world exists in order to raise Malchut, the female part, above everything in the model of the world.

Although Malchut was always in concealment because it is the last Sefira, at the last stage it becomes the most important, comes out of concealment, and reveals itself in the reflected light all the way to Keter. It turns out that the role of a woman is the most important. Although it is written that “All honor [awaits] the King’s daughter who is within” (Psalms 45:14), because she always was in concealment, now she comes to the forefront and begins to reveal herself as the most important part.

I think the 21st century should give women more time to move forward and learn about their role in correcting the world. Such women will be able to lead the world to the lofty goal that is before us.

In the old days, the development of a woman was always delayed relative to the general development. The fact is that a woman belongs to the tenth part of the general structure: Keter, Hochma, Bina, Hessed, Gevurah, Tifferet, Netzach, Hod, Yesod, and the last, Malchut, is the female part of the soul. But when Malchut begins to receive, when there is already restriction, screen, and reflected light in which Malchut reaches Keter, then the light comes and illuminates all the Sefirot. The direct and the reflected light connect together.

Previously, humanity has neglected the role of a woman and did not appreciate her worth. But all this must be corrected today as we are coming to the last stage at which a woman must grow up and reveal herself.

In the 19th century there was a qualitative change, and the female force began to break through. Women received the right to vote in elections and access to higher education. This has advanced not only the women themselves but also the whole society, its lower social strata. A woman does not just enter the historical, social, and public stage, dshe also pulls weak social layers that otherwise would not be able to advance.

A woman changes everything. We only need to give room to one woman, allow her to express herself, and the whole life changes. This is especially so in our time because we are coming to the end of the correction of the world. There is still a lot that needs to be corrected, but we are already at the finish line. Therefore, the role of women is becoming more noticeable day by day.

A woman will demand more and more because the forces of nature are pushing her to do so. On the other hand, the male half of humanity will increasingly bow down to women. Therefore, it is necessary to explain to women their role and their responsibility to fulfill it and not neglect it.

If women do not fulfill their leading role, they as if leave it to men. But men can no longer act the way they used to. It turns out that men are no longer acting, and women are not yet acting, and we fall between two chairs, which is very dangerous. This is the time we are entering today.

A Quick Way To Feel Spirituality

947Question: You said that there is nothing easier than to actually reveal the Creator. Is this the simplest thing we can do?

Answer: Sure. You just have to connect with others, with a small number of people, reach a state where you all get out of yourself, rise above your “I,” and enter into a joint “we.” In this “we” you will feel the Creator.

Question: The formula is clear. But if everything is so simple, why do you need to make so many attempts? Why are there such ordeals and difficulties?

Answer: Because there is no system. People want to penetrate the spiritual realm egoistically: “Let’s unite like revolutionary sailors.” It turns out that we imagine an egoistic connection, not in order for everyone to rise up for a mutual united bestowal. After all, our connection is intended only to help each other get out of ourselves.

Question: How can you do it quickly?

Answer: By working for others. We unite in order to help ourselves and others get out of our nature, out of our egoism.

Lo Lishma: To Have Something to Correct

547.02Question: Is the intention of Lo Lishma a necessary stage of spiritual development?

Answer: Of course. Each time it is revealed to us that we are acting with the intention of Lo Lishma, meaning for personal gain. Then we demand the reforming light so that it corrects Lo Lishma for the altruistic intention of Lishma.

I have 613 desires and if in any of them I act for my own benefit, this is called Lo Lishma. If, proceeding from this desire, I act for the sake of bestowal, this is already Lishma. We are talking about two necessary states, one of which results from the other. First the evil inclination is revealed, then the Torah, the spice, corrects it for a good one, and the egoistic intention becomes an altruistic one.

It is written, “There is not a righteous man on earth who does good and will not sin.” We must come from Lo Lishma to Lishma while correcting each of our 613 desires.

Well, if a person does not correct his evil inclination and does not use the reforming light according to the Kabbalistic method, then even his own evil is not revealed to him. The bad that you do in our world is not the evil we are talking about. It is when you do not discover in yourself the intention for the sake of receiving, and you have no connection with the matter of the desire that needs to be corrected. Well, stay an “angel” for now.

The Shortest Way to Attain the Truth

760.4All attention should be focused on our duty to connect, to go toward unity. This is the correction of the transgression of the tree of knowledge. We can’t hide from it. If we take a closer look, we will see that every person, all nations, and all of mankind generally revolve around this correction.

It will soon be revealed to us that every effort, every action, even of any individual, if he or she wants to succeed must contribute to the correction of the tree of knowledge.

We will inevitably come to the state of the end of correction. The only question is how we will travel this path. Will we be driven at every step by the whip? Will we figure out the right forms of progress in every step and in every detail? Will we ourselves move toward the same goal with the help of prayer and friends?

One may ask why we should create this alternative that is not wanted by the Creator. This is for us to have the freedom of choice to agree with the Creator and prefer to go this way, not under blows, but voluntarily, and to restrict our egoism and enter into work for the sake of bestowal (Lishma). We advance by putting our efforts and prayer into it and by trying not to escape every moment to return to the egoistic path.

Eventually we will achieve the same goal, but instead of making our way through a dark forest, through robbers, and in fear of being beaten and killed, we can drive along a beautiful highway in a Mercedes quickly and comfortably. We will perceive the goal differently if we are not driven to it from under the stick. When we move toward it along the road laid out for us, we are correcting ourselves more and more and getting closer to the goal.

At every meter of this good path, we gradually bring ourselves into line with the goal; that is, we change. While on a bad path, we increasingly resist moving until we come to such suffering that life becomes worse than death. And when we prefer this death, our egoistic desire is killed for us, which leads us to correction.

The quantity and quality of suffering on the path of acceleration of time (Achishena) is incomparable with the natural path of development in its time (Beito). After all, if I am ready to suffer in order to come to the truth, then this is no longer suffering!

Partial Attainment of the Creator

527.03Kabbalists wrote about the essence of the soul: “The soul is a part of God above and is not at all changed from the Whole, except in that the soul is a part and not the Whole” (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Chapter 1, Inner Observation, Item 3).

Question: How can we understand that the soul is a part of the Creator?

Answer: Basically, the soul is not a part of the Creator. The one who reveals the Creator, however, attains only some part. In fact, it is impossible to divide the Creator, to cut off a piece from Him, like a stone from a rock. One can only come to understand that this is how our attainment takes place.

Baal HaSulam wants to explain to us that there is no difference between the soul that is within a person and the Creator Himself. There is a difference in attainment; a person attains only some part, some manifestation, of the Creator, but nothing more.

Then, as he grows spiritually, he will attain a greater and greater part of the Creator within himself, until, as a result of his spiritual development, he reaches the feeling that the Creator fills him with absolutely everything.

Everything Depends on the Measure of Similarity

237We should therefore always distinguish two discernments in His bestowal: The first is the form of the essence of that upper abundance before it is received, when it is still an inclusive, simple light. The second is that after the abundance has been received, for by this it acquired one separate form according to the properties of the receiver (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Chapter 1, Inner Observation, Item 2).

According to the similarity of my qualities and the qualities of the Creator’s bestowal, I feel only a certain influence. That is, the light before clothing into me is called “simple, uniform, single,” and when it is clothed in the receiver, it is as if it takes on my qualities.

Question: If my qualities are opposite to Him, do I feel myself opposite to the Creator?

Answer: There are a great number of possibilities here, depending on the similarity of the qualities of the Creator and the qualities of a person. This is how a person feels. The more his qualities will be similar to the qualities of the Creator, the more correctly he will feel Him.

Question: How clear is this feeling of the Creator?

Answer: It depends on the measure of similarity because practically we feel only the Creator, there is none else besides Him.

Therefore, our entire pursuit is to reveal Him in all His manifestations. Then we will see that everything around is just Him, His single force and a single fulfillment.

Adam’s Mistake

962.2Question: Did Adam make any real mistake?

Answer: Allegedly, a real mistake. Adam failed to reveal the universe correctly, which is represented by eating from the tree of knowledge. He ate it egoistically, and therefore he must come to the realization of the unfaithfulness of the egoistic path of development, the egoistic attitude to himself, to the environment, and change his attitude with his whole history.

This, in principle, is his sin; he tried to do the opposite but could not.

Question: Why was Adam shattered into small parts?

Answer: In order for everyone to solve their own little problem. And what do you do in our world when you face a big task? You break it into pieces, and into more pieces, and more, and give everyone a task, adjustments, and an implementation plan.

All of us in the world unconsciously solve this problem. We do not understand what we are doing, but in theory we are solving a very simple task: a person’s attitudes to the environment, to nature, and the universe, and understand what the Creator is, what the universe is.

In principle, the problem has been solved, the algorithm has been found, but it has not become the asset of all eight billion people so they are still unconsciously poking around and solving this problem through suffering.

A Special Force of Unity

032.01There is a special force in our unity. When we unite above self from the state “me” to “we,” we reveal a new force in nature; it is called the “wisdom of the crowd.” The integrality is the one who gives it to us.

Even more, this force is above all other forces. We can correct all problems of our world with its help in our life, health, family relations, and security, and can calm down people and nations, and correct the ecology.

This force exists in nature; there is nothing supernatural about it. It is above our ordinary, egoistic nature, but generally speaking it is not supernatural. We approach it realistically.

Let’s begin to connect with one another, help one another to rise, and we will sense how it hovers above us. If we begin to act this way, we will suddenly see that we can correct everything.

In today’s world there is a huge number of “ticking bombs.” What is happening with oil in the Atlantic? What is happening inside the ocean with pollution? What is happening in the atmosphere around us? We live while sitting on “ticking bombs” not knowing when they will explode.

Let’s begin to gradually balance it all out, calm down, and decrease this pace and this tension. We do not have any other choice. After all, it is possible to balance it. See how simple it is. When we connect with one another, we reveal the force that is above us.

About the High Value of Lo Lishma

284.02The state of Lo Lishma is not ordinary earthly egoism. To be in Lo Lishma means to try to be in Lishma, to perform actions of bestowal, and to reveal that for now you are doing them for yourself.

The time when I make efforts to rise above my egoism and achieve bestowal but I am not yet capable of it is called the period of Lo Lishma.

Question: It is probably not enough to turn your nature from Lo Lishma to Lishma only once?

Answer: Of course, this does not happen all at once. There are 125 degrees each of which is divided into many more states. Baal HaSulam said that we do not understand how high the state of Lo Lishma is. It is even higher than our idea of the state of Lishma.

After all, the true Lo Lishma means that I am trying with all my might to make a bestowing act, and in the end, it is revealed to me that I still acted for the sake of my desire to receive, my egoistic benefit.

Question: Is there such a structure or environment where one could enter in order to make such a turn in a compulsory way?

Answer: Yes, this is the role of the group.
