Breaking the Connection to Feelings

963.1Question: The orthogonality theory of intelligence states that intelligence and final goals are orthogonal axes along which possible agents can freely vary; that is, more or less any level of intelligence could in principle be combined with more or less any final goal. It has also been construed to mean that smart people can pursue stupid goals. Intelligence and goals are orthogonal, unrelated to each other. No matter how smart the intellect, it can safely pursue absolutely stupid or poor goals.

How can these two parameters be linked in order to actually use intelligence for high goals?

Answer: When you speak about the mechanism of the interaction of intellects, do you take into account whether they are purely intellectual or sensory?

Comment: At the moment, I consider them purely intellectual. That is, we are talking about intelligence divorced from sensations.

My Response: Then we are talking about mechanical devices and not about people or any sensory civilization.

Comment: But in fact, sensations are a person’s reception of information. It later gets evaluated, processed, and so on. And if we started the discussion with the isolation of human intellect from the field of sensations, then we in fact came to the conclusion that all this happens in conjunction with feelings.

My Response: It follows that we cannot take sensory parameters into account.

Question: But if a person feels something and is able to process these feelings, why can’t we take them into account? This is all the same information that comes to us in different forms. We feel something, analyze it, and act on it accordingly.

That is, this bundle is the high goal, methods of achieving it that are not related to goal, setting, and the sensory perception when receiving information—all this is completely shattered in a person.

It is unclear how it works. Maybe there is a point, a line through the center to connect it all? Or do we have no need for it?

Answer: The fact is that if we want to affect the workings of such systems, we must put at least a few conditions down that will not lead humanity to destruction, self-destruction. Then we will have a clear direction of where to set the limits in the system.

Self-Deception

600.02Question: How can we explain the advantage of sensory transmission of information from person to person?

Answer: There is no way to explain it because people will not be able to work with this anyway.

Now everyone remembers how in 1997 scientists received a Nobel Prize for developing a theory about the absence of the probability of an economic crisis, as a result of which a society of unlimited consumption can develop endlessly.

How can this be if natural resources are being exhausted, if pollution reaches such magnitudes that it buries us under garbage in this huge earth dump? How can one write that a society of unlimited consumption can develop endlessly and all people on earth, absolutely everyone, will be able to reach unlimited opportunities, and unlimited success? From where?

I was surprised by this view of the world when I visited Disney World’s Epcot Center for the first time 30 years ago. Epcot Center is a round building, which you enter by a little train and you are shown the entire history of humanity from the past, present, up to the future. The future is represented by the fact that everyone has a helicopter, walls of houses are covered with televisions, etc. That is, everything is so fancy. They placed a person in a state from which he cannot get out. What a future!

Egoism blinds us so much that we invent such theories and give Nobel Prizes for them, believing that there will be no end to our development, although long before that the Club of Rome and other scientists said that everything ends.

Why do we award such economists the Nobel Prize? Because we want it to be so. Can you imagine what a self-deception this is?! What can we come to? How can we explain to a person that there are other technologies if people cannot change themselves?

Comment: But you say that in the end, they have to come to it anyway.

My Response: I think that nowadays it is just getting to the point of personal and common internal correction in order to reveal inside ourselves the next level of the universe, the spiritual state. Then this world will involuntarily disappear from our perception. As soon as we begin to feel spiritual qualities, forces, and systems inside ourselves, we will stop seeing this world.

Unidentified Black Box Mechanism

202.0Question: In the learning process of artificial intelligence, the mechanism of the black box is completely preserved in it. If before a person created computers, he clearly knew it was a microcircuit, an algorithm; there is a cause and effect, and everything goes along the chain and leads to some result. A person understood the whole scheme.

When training artificial intelligence, the structure of neural networks is modeled. At the first level, a huge amount of information is loaded into it—trillions of data. After that something happens in it, like in a black box. Do neural networks themselves line up inside the black box?

Answer: Yes, this is the point at which we do not own data and information.

Comment: This information is located precisely inside the black box, and a person does not know what is happening there both in relation to himself and in relation to his creation. He just gets some result that statistically satisfies him more.

My Response: In general, a lot of questions arise here. How do we choose the result? Do we choose intuitively or because it is inherent in us, that such a result is closer to us and we agree to live with it, but with another one—no way. That is, there is a big problem here in the person himself, not in the machine, not in what it chooses, but in the person who chooses.

Therefore, many questions still remain open. But I think that in the coming years, we will begin to understand this more. I do not know when we can solve this, but we will be able to understand.

Definition of Intellect and Its Levels

222Question: If we talk about intellect, then today there is no single definition of this concept. There are several directions according to which classical science defines intellect.

First, intellect is a quality consisting of a person’s ability to recognize new situations, the ability to learn and remember based on experience, understand and apply abstract concepts, and use their knowledge to control himself and the environment.

Second, intellect is a general ability to recognize and solve problems, which combines all the cognitive abilities of a person and his ability to understand various situations.

The third definition is very short and concentrated. Intellect is, first of all, the basis of goal setting, resource planning, and a strategy to achieve the goal.

How would you define intellect?

Answer: I am closest to the third definition. The most important thing is still the goal setting and the way to achieve it.

Question: If you dive into this definition of intellect, then scientists expand it a bit and consider that it operates on three levels.

For ease of understanding, let us call intellect an agent that does something.

The first level is the agent achieves the goal, but everything is controlled by a person. For example, a calculator or a computer. A person sets goals for it and fully programs and controls it in every sense.

The second level is the agent has a goal set by a person, but the intellect chooses the ways to achieve it. For example, an artificial intelligence that learns from some data. The formation of neural connections takes place in it, and on their basis, it can offer something new. That is, this is not programming, this is the creation of something new.

And the third level is an animal or a person who sets goals and develops algorithms for achieving them. Animals set some simple goals and methods to achieve. A person sets more complex ones.

But is it correct to say that a person sets goals for himself?

Answer: As part of our activities, life, and communication, we, in principle, whether we wish it or not, set goals for ourselves throughout life and everything that happens to us.

A Thing in Itself

508.1Question: During life, a person acquires life experience and learns from examples and abstract concepts. This is similar to the training of an animal when we set some tasks for it, give examples, and some kind of reward for performing them. Based on the results of these actions, we evaluate whether the dog is smart or stupid. Is a person trained in the same way during his life?

Answer: Of course, we evaluate ourselves and everyone else only in relation to our tasks.

Question: Some information is constantly entering a person. There are some calculations going on inside him that are concealed from him, and he acts on their basis. How can he catch the reason for these actions in order to justify them?

For example, with artificial intelligence, it is clear that a person sets goals for it, gives it a database for training, and even evaluates what is good and what is bad in its actions. How can this be determined in relation to a person?

Answer: There is nothing we can do about a person because the higher nervous activity is also taken into account here. So this is harder with a person. And it will get harder with machines. If we are talking about self-learning algorithms, then it will be difficult for us to establish the right attitude to the machine. And to a person too.

Therefore, we treat each other purely externally, one cannot go inside the other. It is unclear how and what to do with this person inside himself because he is a thing in itself.

Inside the “Black Box”

198Question: There is a common expression: “A thought came to mind.” Where does the thought come from?

Answer: We do not know this.

Comment: A person does not really think about this much.

My Response: Exactly, that is why a person does not think about it; a person does not know. A person cannot control it and is not capable of controlling it. And even if someone from the outside would tell him about it, it still would not help because he cannot exit the “black box”—himself.

Question: Within the framework of our material life, it seems to us that we formulate our own goals and decide for ourselves how to achieve them. Is it an illusion or not?

Answer: Of course it seems that way. After all, we cannot be certain about anything. We make mistakes, change our minds, and listen to other opinions. In regard to everything that happens, a person cannot say with 100% certainty that he is sure of something. There is no ultimate truth.

Under the Power of the Creator’s Greatness

938.07Question: The greatness of the Creator has immeasurably huge dimension and power. If we imagine it, we can just crush ourselves. How can we come into contact with His greatness in the correct way?

Answer: If we are moving toward the Creator together, and He has set us such a condition that we can approach Him only together, then we should not be afraid, nothing will crush us. We will be able to receive His attitude toward us into the ten Sefirot and understand that He treats us correctly.

A Moment that Connects the Past and Future

232.08A person should feel how all times: past, present, and future are included in the present moment, which means that I should think what I am aiming for at this moment and how to attach all the reasons to the action that I am about to perform now.

I connect the past and the future with the present time and from this I find the most correct action for my advancement.

It all depends on my intention because now I want to perform an action in which all times, all actions, and opportunities will come together in one effort to connect.

935The difference between past, present, and future is only in the strength of our connection. If we connect, we compress time and jump into the future.

In fact, there is no time! It is only according to our inner effort to unite that we reveal our more corrected states. This means that we exist in time.

What Is Time?

Surrounding Light from the Future

931.01Time is a feeling of lack. Lack stretches time for us; it multiplies seconds like a bargaining chip. Therefore, time can be reduced.

As we unite, we increase the radiance of the surrounding light on us and thus attract the future to us. By influencing our connection, we can influence the light that will be revealed between us. It turns out that we have the ability to change and determine the general state of all reality.

After all, if we rise in our connection at all levels: inanimate, vegetative, animate, and human, then everything turns out to be in our hands and in the end depends only on our unification.

The surrounding light is the light that shines around the soul and is waiting for it to be able to clothe itself in it in proportion to the connection that has arisen between the parts of the soul. And then the future turns into the present, into the inner light.
