The Role Of The Nation Of Israel

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the role of Israel today and of the Jewish people in particular?

Answer: The role of Israel was first discovered in ancient Babylon when one of the great sages of that generation, the Babylonian priest Abraham, provided an answer for what was happening there.

At that time, Babylon was undergoing the same processes that the world is undergoing today: a small society of three million people, which was almost the world civilization at the time, suddenly began to sink into mutual hatred because of the sudden eruption of the ego.

Until then, the Babylonians lived as a small society between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, and everything was fine. But when the great ego erupted, it turned out that, on the one hand, they were integrally connected to one another, and on the other hand, they couldn’t exist together egoistically. Therefore the term the Tower of Babel symbolizes the ego that literally grew up to the sky.

This is what is happening today. On one hand, we discover that people are mutually connected to one another and on the other hand, they hate each other. The two forces that mutually operate inside us require a solution, since otherwise we will reach a dead end.

One of these two forces, the force of nature, ties us together and shows us the globalization and mutual connection between everyone to everyone. This force closes us integrally and shows us that we are one whole body. The second force is the egoistic human force that tears us apart from the inside, separates us, and doesn’t allow us to be one whole.

These two forces were first studied in ancient Babylon and there were two answers to the question of “what should we do?”

The first answer was given by Nimrod, the king of Babylon, who decided that the Babylonians had no choice but to break up and move away from one another. He disintegrated his kingdom fearing that his subjects would begin to destroy each other. This is where the concept of building the Tower of Babel comes from and its outcome was the dispersion of the people and the mixing of tongues, which was a sign that people ceased to understand one another.

That was one way of solving the problem, but today we, the modern Babylonians, have nowhere to go since we have no other planet. Therefore, we cope with the question that we have to answer.

The second solution was given by Abraham, one of the leading priests in ancient Babylon. Abraham understood that the ego separates us from the inside, while the external forces of nature, which bring us closer, were given to us on purpose so that we will ascend above them and resemble nature. This means that we will work against our ego on the connection between us.

How can this be done? How can person oppose his own nature? Abraham suggested organizing small groups of people that would begin to connect, and in their attempts to connect, they would draw the external force of nature that would be revealed internally among them and correct and raise them above themselves.

The main goal of nature is to bring humanity to a state of “love thy friend as thyself,” whether we like it or not. The problem of our separation should be solved immediately, and only in this manner.

About five thousand followers joined Abraham. The great 12th century philosopher, Rambam, writes about this and it is also contained in earlier writings like in Midrash Raba and other sources.

The Sefer Yetzira (Book of Creation) is the only remaining book written by Abraham, and it tells us about the whole system of nature that affects all of human society.

Led by Abrahan, 5,000 people left Babylon and came to the land of Canaan, the modern land of Israel. Abraham taught them how to ascend above the ego in the connection between them according to the ancient Jewish commandments of “love thy friend as thyself,” “don’t do unto others what is hateful to you” and “be as one man in one heart,” etc. This group is known by the name Israel, which means Yashar-El, straight to the Creator, resembling nature. After all, the Creator is not a picture on the wall or a grandfather sitting on a cloud. The Creator is nature! All of nature is called the Creator.

The 5,000 people who left Babylon with Abraham were called the nation of Israel, stemming from the word “Yashar -El,” straight to the Creator. It is a nation that did not grow out of biological roots like all the other nations but according to an ideology, a purpose that defines where it is headed and how it is going to establish society.

Although we are the biological descendants of those people, unfortunately, we don’t resemble them at all because we have lost that ideology. Therefore our current state is called exile from the spiritual level they had achieved.

When the Jewish nation left Egypt and wandered in the desert, it constantly worked on its connection. Their ego kept on growing, just as the ego of humanity grows from one generation to the next (which is what makes us different from animals), and the people worked on it.

This continued until the ego suddenly erupted as it developed. It happened on the eve of the destruction of the Second Temple in the last year BC. People could not ascend above it in the good connection between them and they fell to the egoistic level.

A Temple refers to holiness, bestowal, love of others, and to the incorporation of everyone into one whole. When the Jewish nation fell from that level, it determined the rest of its history of 2,000 years of exile.

The Truth About the Three Religions of the World, Part 2

The beginning of this article can be found in the Truth About the Three Religions of the World, Part 1.

Question: How can we stop the spreading of radical Islam and divert this sword away from the world?

Answer: The solution is simple. It is not in Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. It is in the wisdom of Kabbalah, a method that provides people with an instrument to work with the upper force.

Man uses it to connect to the program, root, and final objective of the plan of creation. He is connected to the upper force from the beginning until the completion of Creation every step of the way. And he will see all this sometime in this life not in some other world.

Kabbalah does not say that all people who practice the same religion are brothers but speaks about loving all of mankind as yourself.

Religions were spread with the purpose of bringing people towards unity with others, but in the wrong form, through Klipa, egoistic forces, a lie. Christianity called for unity with the purpose of helping one another and praying to the common gods. Islam says the same: “We have one higher power, let’s be brothers!”

Any ideology that is based on unity states the same. But they do not have a connection with the upper force and this is why all these methods fade. They must be replaced with Kabbalah, which initially was the source of all these temporary movements.

Their existence was needed for a certain duration of time in history in order to reveal the truth, which we would not be able to figure out without them. And now we can realize the wisdom of Kabbalah by using it to show the actual right method to mankind. After all, it contains the upper force.

Kabbalah is not trying to unite us on the egoistic level of this world, unlike all the religions. This is why they cannot be realized, and they only exist for a limited time, as long as people are still getting confused by them. But as soon as it becomes revealed that a connection is impossible through a given method, it disappears.

But Kabbalah allows people to connect with the upper force and become like it. It raises man above this world, above his nature. This way, instead of connecting on the level of this world, like the Muslim brothers or the army of Christ, we actually attain unity on the higher level, by attaining bestowal and mutual love.

This is not love in its corporeal sense and it does not unite everyone under one green flag but lifts to the highest spiritual degree while still living in this corporeal body. This directly corresponds to the definition of Kabbalah as a method of revelation of the Creator by the creatures in this world.

All methods were directed towards unity, but they worked inside egoism. Only Kabbalah works above egoism, and this is why it is revealed after all these methods. Kabbalah raises man above his egoism, and this is why it is able to connect all of us, and in this connection, we attain the higher degree.

One does not need to die physically in order to go to heaven because there is no heavenly life after death. The physical body does not stand in the way of it, as it is nothing but a piece of flesh that does not get in the way of us experiencing heaven internally. This is why it is written that you will see your world in your lifetime.

This attracts people, but they must understand that they need to change in order to defeat death in this manner. To go to heaven means to become dissolved in one’s love towards mankind. This state is called heaven, the highest level where I connect with others to the point of completely losing my “I.” The entire world becomes me, and in this way, I attain everyone. This is what we call the world to come, the higher degree.

Internally man always worked towards it, and this is why he needed to experience this entire process of Christianity and Islam. It was so he would understand his actual state, his actual goal, and how to realize it. And he must want to attain it without the carrot or the stick, just because he himself wants to grow to this level.

This requires that man be internally mature; we can only understand, accept, and realize it through such a lengthy process.

Question: Everyone can attain this?

Answer: Everyone must attain it! According to the plan of creation, all of mankind must experience the entire process of the spreading of religion: one part experiences Christianity, the other part experiences Islam. But in the end, everyone comes to the realization of the truth, rising above our nature and connecting above it, where we attain the higher existence.

Short Stories: Did The Deluge Really Happen?

Dr. Michael LaitmanEverything that the Torah writes about happens on a spiritual level, but its characters were Kabbalists and  really existed. The Torah speaks only about a person’s entry into the spiritual world. It  does not describe phenomena and events in physical life, rather only a person’s internal path towards attaining the Creator.

In this sense, Adam and Noah were real people who once lived on earth, taught people in their Kabbalistic schools, and called them their children or descendants.

Since the events described in the Torah happened on a spiritual level, it is impossible to say that they all happened in physical life.

For example, was there really a deluge? For thousands of years of human development there were certainly all kinds of natural disasters. But the story of the flood speaks about two characteristics of the mighty power of water, about a good characteristic of bestowal that the water symbolizes (the right side) and about a bad power of water that drowns, destroys, causes tsunamis and the like (the left side).

The story about Noah is specifically about this and not about some global natural disaster in our world.

The Torah speaks about how the person understands in what manner he must rise above the characteristic of judgment, the power that exists in water, and through some kind of relationship with this power, he can realize himself within it correctly He must build an ark, the right closed environment in which the characteristics of water will be good for him, and not ruthless or lethal.

On his contemporary level of knowledge about the system of management, Noah made a tremendous discovery for future generations of Kabbalists that made it clear how it is possible to pass through the crude, powerful, and most threatening natural forces to good and useful ones.

This is because before Noah, people were powerless when confronting nature, like little children. And his method made it possible to tame the threatening power of nature. So the level of Noah was necessary on the way of humanity towards attainment and control of the entire system of management.

Laitman_703_03Ten generations pass from Noah until Abraham (ten always refers to the total level of recognition, development, and complete growth). During this time Noah’s students mastered and assimilated his method, which means that they could control the attribute of bestowal, the attribute of Hesed, which the water symbolizes.

Water is the source of life of everything on this planet. An embryo in his mother’s womb is surrounded by water. Water is the major force in our world. The whole earth is actually covered by water. The continents merely stand out a bit above the water. The amount of water inside the planet earth and on the outside is indescribable! When we study other planets we first of all try to find out whether there is water and oxygen there. But oxygen is also part of the composition of water.

The adaptation of the attribute of water (the attribute of mercy) enabled people to connect more correctly and to live in peace in ancient Babylon. There was the unity of one nation, one unique family, people who understood each another among the Babylonians.

Four thousand years ago when ten generations after Noah learned and fulfilled the attribute of Hesed, a community of ancient Babylon was established, a prototype of our current civilization.

It is actually thanks to the fact that the people of Babylon attained the good, right mutual relations in a peaceful state that the next leap was necessary in order to continue their development. It is because Adam and the twenty generations after him (ten generations from Adam until Noah, and ten generations from Noah until Babylon) discovered that humanity needed to attain the complete resemblance and equivalence of form to the Creator. The next phase of the ascent took place in Babylon.

Nature Is Unity

Transform To Become An Active Part Of The General System

laitman_249-01Question: We have connections with many Jewish youth organizations. How timely is it to be involved with dissemination in a Jewish environment in our nation and how do we approach this?

Answer: I don‘t think that the prerequisites for this exist in Russia and in the Ukraine. The Jewish stratum of the population is still not concerned about questions of its nationality.

As long as the surrounding population has not touched upon this question, they don’t care about anything. But when a wave of anti-Semitism reaches them, then it could be that conditions for leaving will appear.

The fact is that the Creator will completely arouse anti-Semitism in all parts of the world to its greatest depths and will not let any Jews live in peace so that they will understand that physical persecution is conditional upon bringing them to carry out their spiritual mission.

After all,  without the participation of all the Jews of the world, the correction of humanity is impossible. We need to get them used to dissemination, study, and the implementation of this program. Otherwise there will not be success.

When we are talking about a general network in which each one of us is a node on a particular juncture in the network,  the Jews are specifically those small nodes (links) that have been actively participating in the work of this network for nearly two thousand years. They belong to the group of Abraham; they worked within the system correctly from the start but then fell from this level, which itself caused all of this.

Now this group must create itself again. By restoring the right connection, they will attract all the rest of the small links after them. And without the correction of the parts of the network that were once active, we cannot reach the correct and harmonious working of the entire system called the “soul” in which to reveal the Creator.

When the system is awakened, it searches for the problem. So then anti-Semitism appears. The connection network feels that its active parts are acting negatively and working against it.

So the anti-Semites are right when they see that the Jews, who are the inner part of the system, are the source of its malfunction. The negative association directed at Jews throughout the world must bring them to an awareness of their function within the system, and then they will begin to be corrected against their will.

The Bnei Baruch group was created among these parts that were acting incorrectly, trying to participate correctly in the work of the system. It follows that the anti-Semites will put pressure on the Jews of the world on all sides, and from within we will begin to explain to them how they must be corrected to transform into active positive parts for the entire system, meaning for all humanity. So with the help of both of them, the work will be carried out for the correction of the entire connected network.

The Essential Secret Of The Jews, Part 68

From the book: The Essential Secret of the Jews, M. Brushtein

Six Steps

We cannot even imagine how we, the people of the planet Earth, are close to each other.

Do you know how many people are between, for example, a technologist from India and archivist of Estonia? It turns out only six.

In 2002, the American sociologist Duncan Watts and his colleagues conducted an impressive experiment.

A task was given to more than 98,000 volunteers. Through their acquaintances, scattered around the world, they had to send an email message to an unknown addressee, arbitrarily chosen for this purpose.

The list of recipients contained a university professor, an archivist from Estonia, an engineer from India, an Australian policeman, a Norwegian army vet, and others. There were eighteen people altogether.

The experiment showed that, on average, it was necessary to forward the message six times so that it reached its destination.

“This progression of human beings out of such an ostensibly anarchical condition into ever larger and ever more ordered aggregations – of bands, villages, cities, and states – can in fact be understood as a gradual rise in the size and complexity of social networks. And today this process is continuing to unfold as we become hyperconnected.” (Nicholas Christakis and James Fowler, Connected)

We are connected through one network. We influence each other directly or indirectly. For example, coffee harvested in Brazil, just like vodka, produced in Russia, people drink everywhere, with all the ensuing positive and negative consequences. It can be said this a direct link between the countries.

Indirect relations include all that relates to the waste associated with the production of the same coffee and vodka, as well as the production of energy needed for this. All this has been known for a long time.

“Humanity, as a living substance, is inextricably linked with the material-energetic processes of the specific geological envelope of the Earth – its biosphere. It cannot be physically independent from it for a minute.” (Vladimir I. Vernadsky, “Some Words About the Noösphere”)

Tendencies for unity and interdependence are increasing every year. Whether we like it or not. Whether we are aware of this or not. The term “globalization” has long since become an everyday word in all the languages. Ambassador Wu Jianmin, President, China Foreign Affairs University, says the following about this:

“The world of the 21st century is different from that in which we lived before. We have moved from mutual assured destruction to economic interdependence.”

Whether you like it or not, globalization is gaining momentum and makes our world deeply interdependent. A conspicuous example is the relationship between China and the United States …

In 1972, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $5 million USD, and in 2012 it reached $500 billion USD

In 1972, US investments in the Chinese economy were zero, and now they are up $60 billion USD.” (Global Affairs).

Interconnections are a good thing. It is difficult to argue. However, a direct consequence of such deep relationships is interdependence. And it is fraught with consequences, and not always pleasant. It is because of this relationship and this interdependence that the financial crisis broke out in 2008.

What can we do, how can we connect what seemingly cannot be connected? We need some special methodology to solve this apparently unsolvable problem. But this methodology has been around for a long time. With its help, Abraham connected completely different people into a single nation with a unique destiny.

“The conflict between good and evil which proceeds unceasingly in the breast of man nowhere reaches such an intensity as in the Jewish race. The dual nature of mankind is nowhere more strongly or more terribly exemplified.” (Winston S. Churchill, “A Struggle for the Soul of the Jewish People”)

ISIS: We Will Fly The Jihad Flag Above The Vatican

Dr. Michael Laitman

In the News (from New York Post): “The fanatical jihadists have published an image of their black flag with white Arab lettering flying above the Vatican on the cover of their English-language magazine Dabiq.

“The cover story, ‘The Failed Crusade,’ envisions the ancient Italian city under the rule of a Caliph and a hardline Sharia regime, according to the Jerusalem Post.

“‘The Islamic State claims it will one day conquer Rome, threatening to “break [the] crosses” of infidels and sell and trade their women.”…

“Pope Francis has called for international action to stop the group and backed the US-led coalition that has been striking ISIS targets.”

My Comment: In the prophecies of the correction of the world, which, according to Kabbalists, must be realized beginning with our time, and further, the war of Islam against the Christian world is indicated as the first phase of the correction of the world.

Medicine From An Upper Level

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Billions of people have been studying the Torah in different ways (in Judaism, Christianity and Islam) for ages and have not managed to find the way.

Answer: We as yet don’t understand the uniqueness of the spiritual vessels. If they don’t exist in a person, he cannot picture, understand or feel them in any way. No one can jump above his level.

We can try to explain and teach this to a person for 10 or 20 years, but he will be able to open his ears and heart to hear what the Torah says, only after a Light from above, a spirit from above, is revealed to him. But unless the upper Light and spirit from above are revealed to him, he is unable to hear anything.

The difference between an animal and a human being is actually in whether his heart opens up to what the Torah says or not. This is possible only by the action of the Light.

Therefore you can look at billions of researchers and billions of sufferers and see that they cannot attain anything. It is as if you have a million sick cows. Will their suffering help them be cured of their disease? They will not be able to overcome or get rid of it by themselves. Only a human being can save them and cure them, an expert who knows and who brings them the right medicine, which means he who draws the Light.

Only from an upper level is it possible to correct a state we see in our life and in this world. Unless the Light appears and influences us, it is impossible to do anything. All we can do is treat people patiently in order to gradually prepare them to receive the Light on their level.

The Light appears and operates as the Surrounding Light, from a distance, as a general illumination, and a person gradually acquires a mind and feelings. The ego, the evil inclination, grows inside him, which means attributes that are opposite to the Light, in order to highlight this even more.

Thus, we shouldn’t be impressed by the fact that our world is full of clever people and at the same time is in crisis. The correction comes only by the upper force and we cannot do this by ourselves. The preparation for it is our only responsibility.

The Role Of Religions In The Process Of Correction

Like Sheep Facing Wolves

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: After the First and Second Temples were destroyed, did the Jewish people feel and remember their foundation established by Abraham? Did the people of Israel remember around what they were created and consolidated? Did this foundation live among them?

Answer: Yes and no.

After the destruction of the Second Temple, the people fell from seeing the inner picture of reality, the managing forces, everything that happens in the world, and again found themselves in mutual hatred, mutual rejection, and mutual distance from each other, with an indifference that characterizes us even today.

Exiled from the land of Israel, we passed through many lands and turned to the West, to Europe, to the East, to the Arab nations, and we began to sink into apathy. Since then, what has held us together is not the power of love, nor belonging to one idea, not mutuality, not connection, and not mutual help without any calculations, but only the desire to survive. We were stuck to each other like sheep flocking together and facing wolves, but we didn’t hold ourselves together.

Basically our situation has been like this throughout the entire exile until this very day, which is the entire two thousand years.

Question: What role did religion fulfill in this?

Answer: Religion helped people in this state of absolute detachment from spiritual sources, from understanding, from everything. It simply strengthened and supported them in this low and abject state so that people could be involved in carrying out some kind of worldly activities, also called Mitzvot, and thus would maintain themselves in this manner. Religion is what is left and what was given to the people after the destruction of the Temple, instead of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

The wisdom of Kabbalah opens the heavens, reveals the Creator, and reveals the power of unity to the people. Through realizing it between them, they discover the Creator, who is found among them, and who makes it possible for them to live within a sensation of a completely different reality.

And when all of this was lost, we acquired our present form. This pertains to everyone, except for a few Kabbalists in every generation who wrote books and developed this method, and who continue to work to attain the Creator and unity between us.

The Truth About The Three Religions, Part 1

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why has Islamic religious fanaticism become so strong in recent years? Islam began its journey to the West and is gradually conquering Europe and the United States. Today in Europe there are 54 million Muslims; 7 million Muslims are living in France alone.

The trend towards Islamization is gaining momentum, but worst of all is that it is amplified in the radical, extremist movements. In today’s Europe there are “Muslim ghettos” into which both residents and the police are afraid to enter. They conduct their closed lives in these places together with the Mosques and a legal system according to the laws of Islam.

This phenomenon has grown to threatening dimensions and has gradually gone beyond governmental control. The culture war began in central Europe, which had been an example of freedom, democracy, equal rights, and pluralism.

Suddenly a foreign body is beginning to develop within it that is opposed to all of its basic principles—radical Islam—bringing us back to the distant past regarding the equality of women and additional modern achievements.

The Dutch MP, Geert Wilders, founder of the “Freedom” party, made a speech warning of the great danger that threatens Europe. In his opinion, we are in the last stages of the process of the Islamization of Europe that threatens not only its existence but also the United States and all of Western civilization because it is leading to extremism, violence, and intifada.

Why has the popularity of radical Islam grown so much, in particular among the young?

Answer: The idea is that we have reached the last stage of the process of human development that has been happening for thousands of years. Human civilization emerged from ancient Babylon and developed in two directions: Part of the people followed Abraham and the other part were scattered all over the world. After that, the doctrine of Abraham became the foundation of the three world religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

These religions developed in that order, one after the other. Judaism developed directly from Abraham. Christianity was founded around 2,000 years ago when the first Christian communities appeared. And Islam only appeared in the 7th century.

A relative flowering and decline of every religion happens according to these stages. Judaism flourished in its true form until the destruction of the Beit HaMikdash (temple). After the destruction, the Jewish people neglected the principle of “Love your neighbor as yourself,” that was the foundation of the doctrine of Abraham, and so it went into exile. This was a spiritual exile from the altruistic state, a fall from brotherly love into hatred.

Christianity flourished until the Middle Ages, and after that it began to decline, change, and split with the formation of the Protestant movement.

Islam was in a long dormancy and didn’t express itself in its full power. And only lately, when Judaism and Christianity became so weakened that they stopped determining the form of society, then it began to become stronger. And indeed, it is written in the Torah that in the end of days, in the last stage of human development, Islam would accumulate great power, as was written about Ishmael, (Genesis 16:12) “…his hand shall be against every man, and every man’s hand against him… ,” meaning that this religion would ascend above all.

Judaism flowered for the first 2,000 years after the departure of Abraham from ancient Babylon, meaning approximately until the beginning of the common era. This was a period when Judaism existed in its true spiritual form and in its full power. Yet after that the Jewish people fell from their spiritual level and began to sink into physical desires. Therefore they went into exile. Every generation sank deeper than its predecessor.

After the burst of Judaism, the Christian surge began. Christianity developed in a storm until it squeezed itself out. Today we are in the period of the decline of Christianity, which has lost its former power. In Europe, to be a Christian, nothing is required except for a necklace with a cross around the neck.

In some places Christian fanatics still remain, but these are not people who were Christians from the start, these accepted Christianity in a more recent period, as in South America, for example. For them, Christianity is still a relatively new religion. It had already existed for 2,000 years and it reached America through the missionaries only after it was discovered by Columbus 500 years ago. So there are still devout Christians in America..

Islam in our day is truly beginning to be awakened. Until now, it was in its incubation period. After 2,000 years of the blossoming of Judaism and after that the 2,000 years of the flourishing of Christianity, Islam’s turn has arrived.
