There are people who come to this question through suffering. They have such problems that they begin to ask themselves: “Why? What for?

Many of these people feel that they are invisible because their handicap cannot be seen.

Let us say that same person would meet you a few moments before he goes to set himself on fire. What would you say to him?

Answer: I would tell him that human life has a much greater purpose than what he can even imagine. Even when one finds oneself in this difficult state, eternal, whole, perfect, and joyous states can be reached.

Question: Many people among us are suffering from trauma on one level or another. How can we act, as a society, to strengthen them and give them hope?

Answer: We have no other choice but to learn how to approach and reach out to them, to listen and explain the process that a person must go through. In this way we can help them reach the truth.

Question: What is the truth Dr. Laitman?

Answer: The truth is that each one of us exists under the general plan of nature and every situation we go through, is all predetermined within it. If we can come to agree and discover the fact that this is how things are, this will give us great satisfaction.

Question: Can one rise from this shattered rock bottom state?

Answer: Yes, for the general correction of man brings him to a state where he rises above himself and is included in the perfection and harmony of nature.

Question: What allows him to grasp eternity and perfection when he is at rock bottom?

Answer: Precisely that this care and understanding, is all that one has left in order to prevent “being buried alive ” so as to heal these traumatic and post-traumatic situations. Question: Will he get an answer from the universe: who are we, where did we come from, why?

Answer: No. Never. And everything he does is all children’s games because this does not refer to the essence of life, to the essence of a person. This is all external and very mechanical.

What will he find—where to move? We spoiled the Earth, now we will spoil Mars.

Comment: But he already plans to relocate a million people to Mars by 2060.

My Response: Suppose they live there, grow in numbers, even produce their own food and everything. What next? There is no life here and there will be no life over there.

Question: That is, he will not get an answer to questions that have been asked: what is life? How did we get here? What are we living for?

Answer: No. From life itself you will not reveal its source. You must leave this life and then you will find out where it comes from.

Leaving is not the same as dying. To die is to die. To leave life is to rise above it. It is not on Mars.

Answer: Did I ever! I was ready, put me in a rocket, lift me up somewhere, fly! And coming back, let me burn in the atmosphere.

My Response: Futility. Pointlessness. Well, suppose we take root on Mars, and then somewhere else, and on some other star, and on some dead cosmic body. What next? Where are you going from there? Will you live 1,000 years instead of our standard 100, or a million years? That is even worse. If you do not have a serious, correct task suitable for so many years, then living 1,000 years is a horror!

Even with these years that we have now, we do not know what to do. We do not know! Try to close people off now so they cannot fly back and forth, travel on vacation or anywhere else. Close the way they live: sit, get your living wage, and that is it. And what will they do? People will start killing themselves and each other out of despair.

Question: And if a person still has these questions: “Where did we come from? What is the meaning of life? How did we get here?”

Answer: These questions will come, but they will come in a couple of years when people stop playing such games.

Question: That is, a person now has different needs?

Answer: You see if there is an end at all, it means that it will happen now or in a thousand years, it does not matter. Moreover, I cannot fill these 1,000 years with anything. What, am I going to look at these soulless cosmic bodies?

Question: Is this all not filled with the main meaning—the meaning of life for you?

Answer: No. I really wanted to find the meaning in this and could not find anything. It does not make any sense.

Still, vegetative, and animate nature cannot fill a person who is at the next level of development. And we can fill a person only if we give him knowledge, consciousness, a feeling of an even higher force than the person himself, than our nature, the higher nature, the Creator, as we call it. This is possible.

And we cannot do this with our own hands physically. Only from inside: to give birth yourself, raise yourself to the next level. But how can we do that? By uniting with each other! Just as all nature originated from the Big Bang, we must go back through that point that exploded and gave birth to our world and go there—into what was before the explosion.

Question: That is, this is how we pass through this tunnel and suddenly the world opens up to us?

Answer: Yes! A great world.

The Spiritual Basis of Man

The attainment of the Creator is originally embedded in the soul. A person yearns not for comprehending itself in life, but for attaining the root of life, the Creator.

There is a record of spiritual information inside us called Reshimo, which is revealed from time to time and demands its fulfillment. This is man’s spiritual basis. This is the reason we feel the urge to know everything: Who am I? What am I living for? Where am I headed, etc.?

A person cannot remain indifferent to these questions because if he does, then who is he and what is he living for? It is very important for him to discover his origin and destiny, at least the starting and ending point of his earthly existence. Otherwise, we simply live as beasts and even worse than beasts because they do not have all these questions.

The question is how to realize our internal impulses and find answers to them.

Here, the wisdom of Kabbalah comes to our aid and explains everything very clearly. Later, if we wish to achieve revelation, we have to make serious efforts.

That is, it feels itself as an emanated being. All its events aim toward it, and this is the deficiency that it feels— that it will be able to attain its emanator.

The higher the soul, the more strongly it yearns for that.

Even from the people who come to us to study one can see how strong, stable, and consistent their yearning is or, on the other hand, how inconsistent they are and can easily leave everything and go. This is the first point.

Second, a person is tested by being given all kinds of obstacles in life and he shows to himself and to the upper forces that develop him the extent to which he is ready to stay on track, to keep developing, and has no intention of giving in to or to follow any corporeal interruptions.

The Need to Attain the Creator

We must still know the lack that the intellectual soul feels. Let me tell you that it is the need to attain its emanator, for it is engraved in its nature to crave to know its emanator and creator, since it feels its own existence. In each of us there is the desire to attain the source of life: why we are born, what determines our birth, our attributes, our path in this world and beyond, and how we continue our existence, in what form.

This information is imprinted in our nature and this is the reason we want to know it. All our internal forces push us to attain it because it is very hard to live without knowing where we come from, what we are living for, and what we aspire to.

In this respect, human beings in our world are much more miserable than animals, because animals have no such thoughts and don’t undergo such states. They exist without asking any questions. This is also how small kids live without wondering about the meaning of life.

This question usually emerges when a person is six to seven years old. Try to remember how each of you asked yourself about the meaning of life, especially during your youth: where did I come from? How did I get here? How did I develop? How did I end up in this world? What is happening to me and for what purpose?

All these questions torment a person until he reaches puberty and then hormones finish him off. He begins to aspire to have an active sex life, to get married, to try to learn a profession, to have a career, etc. Totally different problems come up in his life  so the questions about the meaning of life are gradually forgotten.

Yet, the desire to discover who I am, why, and what is happening to me do come up, but life doesn’t allow them to develop. Eventually, we end our life tired and old without having achieved anything.

We simply need to understand that if we are given a desire to attain the Creator, it basically covers everything and leads us forward.

It cannot be said that this lack is not defined in attaining its emanator, but that it rather pursues all the secrets and wishes to know about supernatural things and incarnations, and about what is in one’s friend’s heart, and so forth. (Baal HaSulam, “From My Flesh I Shall See God”)

This happens to people who feel a special motion toward attaining their soul, through which they can attain the Creator.

Question: What is the essence of receiving not for yourself?

Answer: Receiving not for my own sake means that I use all my possibilities to fulfill others. When all the people act in this way, then they fill each other and it turns out that they are completely interconnected with each other and form one single, natural common desire, in which the higher power is revealed. Each person and everyone together comprehends this power and are at its level of eternity and perfection.

We are gradually moving toward this. A higher power controls us. We must come from our state to complete interconnection with each other and receive only for the sake of others and for the sake of the Creator. This is the purpose of our creation and the purpose of our correction.

My Response: I agree absolutely and clearly! For an ordinary person it is so. And if he really wants to find happiness, then he must first understand what it is, proceed from there, and achieve it.

Question: Happiness comes all the time, then it slips away, it comes and slips away again. How can you define what happiness is and near it so that it is not illusory and so that we really achieve happiness?

Answer: It must be real and not that everyone will have their own happiness and constantly change.

Question: Is it necessary to look for happiness all the time or not—real happiness?

Answer: You do not need to look for it. You need to define it. It exists and it exists in only one form—in understanding the meaning of life. Only what exists in the present and not what you invent for yourself over and over based on your condition.

So if you know exactly how to reveal this meaning, it will lead you forward, it will reveal the meaning of life more and more, and in finding the meaning of life, even if you are unhappy and dissatisfied with it, you will still be happy because you understand the meaning of life.

Question: What is the meaning of life when I can feel unhappy on the path?

Answer: It means that you are not yet able to develop yourself to such an extent that you can understand the meaning of life.

Question: And understanding it will make me happy?

Answer: Yes. The fact that you aspire to it. That the meaning does exist outside of you! Even this already creates a feeling of happiness in you.

That there is life and there is happiness in it, and happiness is in understanding the meaning of this life. Even if I still do not understand it but I am moving toward it, I am already happy. I am already absorbing it, looking forward to a future meeting with it.

Question: It is amazing when I am happy on the way! What kind of happiness is this, please tell me?

Answer: It is being happy to feel the harmony of the universe.

Question: I enter this harmony and also become harmonious?

Answer: Yes. Like entering a black hole and I reveal absolutely everything there!

My Response: I will tell you, Igor. Everything was correct. There were absolutely no mistakes in your life. You must accept all of it as a correct attitude to life, to the Creator on your part. You just have to calm down.

If you relate to the whole of nature, life, the universe, everything, and yourself as a manifestation of the Creator, then there is nothing you have to do, nothing to worry about. You should only think about how to agree as much as possible with what is happening to you. Then, through this attitude of complete agreement, you will begin to feel the Creator.

I am advising this to you and to everyone. Let go of the situation and do not worry. Stop the confusing complaints. None of that is needed. Everything happens as it should happen.

While it seems to us that we are running around, redoing things, and trying to get everything done in time, this is all nonsense! It does not change anything. We are always trying to do something, as it seems to us, while the Creator does His own thing. So, we end up being unhappy when things do not work out the way we want them to.

Let it all go and you will see that you have nothing to worry about, not in the present or in the past, and especially do not worry about the future. It is all in the hands of that very same upper force.

Comment: Can it possibly be that. I have to tell you, I was touched, because he is not writing about being afraid of death or afraid of anything. He is touched by the fact that he found us too late, in a manner of speaking, that he somehow lived his life.

My Response: This, too, is incorrect, and this, too, is the upper providence. So, nothing is too late, everything that is given to you is given correctly. Use the strength and the time that you have to the extent that you are now inspired by our idea, our path, and everything will be good.

Question: How can we work with people in order to bring them closer to an integral state?

Answer: Through conversations with them and between themselves about the meaning of life: “Why do we have such questions? Why, during the many thousands of egoistic developments of mankind, have we come to such a state when we have no idea where to develop further?”

Although the new generation is still striving for money by inertia, in principle, it is already beginning to show its fatigue and unwillingness to develop in the same form.

In principle, despite the fact that we are so developed, we are animals because we use the same egoism as all the previous levels—still, vegetative, and animate—only in a more exaggerated form. We must go to the next, collective level, Adam, to which the whole of humanity is gradually moving.
