Hanukkah—Spiritual Temple

631.2Question: What is a Spiritual Temple from the point of view of Kabbalah?

Answer: Spiritual Temple is our soul —of each one of us and of all of us together—integration of all our desires striving for equivalence of form with the Creator.

We must unite our desires in such a way that in our connection, in bestowing to each other, we can reach a state that is balanced between us. And then in it, according to our efforts, we will find the upper force, the quality of bestowal and love called the Creator.

Hanukkah—The Greeks And Romans Inside Us

631.1

Question: What is the difference between the Greeks and Romans inside us?

Answer: The Greeks are egoistic thoughts directed toward knowledge and philosophy. And the Romans are egoistic actions directed toward working with coarse desires.

Question: Let’s say I want to become famous, to glorify myself. Is this called the Greeks in me? Are these the desires that need to be corrected?

Answer: No. We are talking about correction on the spiritual level. Both the Greeks and Romans are states that come to a person when he really wants to expose himself to the quality of bestowal. Then he begins to fight with his egoistic desires and sort them out internally into Greeks and Romans.

In other words, there are desires of our world when you want to use someone for your own sake, and there are desires related to the Creator. If the Creator reveals Himself to man and he wants to use the connection with the upper force for his own sake, then these desires are called egoistic: Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians. They need to be corrected.

Why Is Hanukkah Called A Miracle

294.4The holiday of Hanukkah is a special time. You see, our world is a projection of the spiritual world and it contains various symbols of spiritual renewals and corrections due to our work.

Therefore, during the year we go through good times and special states in this world as symbols of our progress in building the soul, restoring the spiritual vessel, the common soul of Adam HaRishon, which was shattered.

On this path, from the most broken state to the fully corrected one, we pass important points: the beginning of correction called the New Year (Rosh HaShanah), then the recognition of shattering: the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), and correction by the surrounding light: Sukkot. The next stop on this path is Hanukkah, which symbolizes rising to the state of Bina, the stage of bestowal.

We celebrate these holidays in this world, but of course, all their manifestations take place on the spiritual level. If we reach faith above reason to the fullest extent, this is called Hanukkah, and if we rise even higher to receiving in order to bestow, it is Purim.

Each person and the whole world must go through these states in their correction, correcting the shattering of the single soul of Adam because we are pieces of that soul.

Hanukkah is called a miracle because we cannot connect with each other without help from above, without the force of the Creator. This connection happens above corporeal nature, like a miracle.

Corporeal nature is egoism, the will to receive, which is drawn only to separation, distancing, its own authority. The spiritual nature, on the contrary, aspires toward connection and self-nullification. This is why Hanukkah is called a miracle, the attainment of the force of Bina.

We used to think that miracle is what we get for nothing: I did not work and suddenly won a million in the lottery—that is a miracle! And if I earned that million, I would not think it was a miracle.

But we invest a lot of effort in spiritual work, we try to achieve connection, perform a lot of actions, and then we are rewarded with the miracle of spiritual revelation. It is called a miracle because until it happens we do not know what we will come to. Only when it happens do we see: “So this is the spiritual world; I did not think it was like this! This is not what I imagined at all!” That is why this is called a miracle, but it takes a lot of work.

To Likeness Without Distinction

568.01Question: Is multiculturalism, as a state policy, a breakthrough or a failure? Sometimes it seems that people are already willing to unite but politicians and the media do not allow us to do this and incite hatred between peoples.

Answer: At some stage of our development, multiculturalism should exist, but in the end it will not have a place. We must come to such a state in which we understand that we must be just people, as similar to each other as possible, without any distinguishing features.

Comment: But you have one taste, I have another. All the same, the differences will remain.

My Response: These are all habits, there is nothing in them.

Comment: You always say that there should be variety. Therefore, life appeared at the higher level.

My Response: Don’t refer to it as culture. We were not born into a culture, we acquire it, and therefore, this is not some rigorous truth.

Diversity should relate to the fact that we give a person the opportunity to move forward into full unification with others, in full union with them. As a result, as it is said, you will have one language, one family, and one society, and everyone will be very similar to each other. It is because we are similar to each other, although internally different, that we will enjoy.

How To Believe In Life At A Different Level?

625.05Question: You write in your books that by rising to a higher level, we will discover a different form of existence.

How can we people believe that if we were to start interacting correctly, we would reveal life at a different level? There is no evidence. Do we need to believe this?

Answer: We have no choice. We either accept it or we will suffer a lot and will still end up accepting it later but only through suffering.

Question: Why is it so hard? In addition to the fact that it is against our nature, we also need to unite and believe in this because there is no evidence.

Answer: In principle, purely theoretically, it is possible to imagine that if everyone could really rise above their individual, egoistic nature, then we could also eventually unite above our differences into a single, common, and altruistic nature.

Don’t Cut Friendship

527.01Comment: There is a saying, “Do not borrow from each other and do not lend to a friend. Debt, like scissors, cuts the friendship.”

If you enter into some kind of monetary or debt relationship with each other, this breaks the connection between you and puts it on a material basis. You stop being friends.

But in fact, I will turn to a friend instead of borrowing from a bank with interest. He is my close friend, I will borrow money from him for some time.

My Response: Other relationships immediately cut in, like it or not.

Question: With your closest friend and even a relative?

Answer: It doesn’t matter with whom.

Question: Do you think it is better to take a loan from the outside, a bank or somewhere, than from someone close?

Answer: A friend is to love, and a bank is to borrow and return.

Question: Why is this?

Answer: Because these are two different levels of communication. And they cannot exist at the same time.

Question: That is, a friend is just in order to love?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Otherwise, what kind of communication is it? “Borrow money from me, for love, after all, you and I are so close.”

Answer: There is no love here. There is some benefit here. But this is not love.

Question: Do I somehow use our friendship this way?

Answer: Of course. It is uncomfortable for him to refuse, and so on. No, you can’t do that.

Reducing Social Distance

632.3Question: The term “social distance” [pre-pandemic definition, not the Covid-related “social distancing”] characterizes the position of social groups, the degree of their relationship. Social distance reflects the economic, political, ethnic, and national difference between people.

Do you think this distance will decrease or, on the contrary, expand in the future?

Answer: According to the science of Kabbalah, social distance will begin to decrease. We will feel the need for getting closer, because the comfort of our life, the safety and health of people, the prevention of all kinds of epidemics and problems, ranging from problems with children, with families, and to great, global problems, depend on it. Undoubtedly, this will be a change for the better.

We are now in some kind of movement toward reducing social distance. The world is getting small anyway. But this is still not the distance we want to reach. Nevertheless, it already allows people to be closer to each other, to understand each other better, to get acquainted with other lands, peoples, and customs.

A person rises above himself. Many of us live constantly flying from country to country. That is, the distance is physically shrinking, especially with the development of the Internet and the media.

But the most important thing is that we gradually begin to understand each other more. Even if we do not get closer, then at least we see that there are people opposite to us. After all, hatred also needs to be understood by a hater or a detester.

962.2Question: How do you understand the expression: “be yourself”?

Answer: It means finding yourself.

Question: What advice has helped you in life?

Answer: Everything that happens is moving toward perfection.

Question: What was your most daring decision?

Answer: I don’t know. Probably it has not happened yet.

Question: What was the biggest disappointment you faced?

Answer: When, at the beginning of the journey, I discovered that I was not capable of anything.

Answer: When I realized that all people are exactly the same as me. All in all, there is absolutely the same opportunity to be a righteous and a sinner.

Question: What episode in your life are you deeply ashamed of?

Answer: The fact is that since I realized that everything comes from above, this question does not come up in me. The feeling of shame arises only when a person stands before the Creator and understands that certain properties and situations were given to him in order to become like the Creator and he did not. In all other respects, the Creator controls us.

Question: What event caused your greatest fear in life?

Answer: I don’t even know. I do not remember.

Question: Is it true that old age has its advantages?

Answer: Each age has its advantages. It all depends on how you perceive youth or old age, strength or weakness.

Answer: When I first found myself in front of my teacher.

Question: Do you have a motto?

Answer: Motto: “Only forward.”

Question: What are the biggest difficulties you experienced in life on the way to the goal?

Answer: If I do not feel any resistance, if I feel that I am forgotten, that I have no haters, then this is the worst of all.

Question: What have you radically changed in your life, and how did it turn out for you?

Answer: I left my previous job, my previous occupations, changed my profession and absolutely my whole life in order to study Kabbalah.

Question: What would happen on earth if each person possessed the maximum intelligence? Would the world be a better place?

Answer: No. All this must be left to the Creator, and we must do what is entrusted to us. That is, within the framework in which we exist, in which He gave birth to us, we try to achieve similarity to Him.

Question: When is it worth breaking off a relationship? How to do it correctly?

Answer: I think it does not depend on the person.

Question: Does the person’s appearance affect your attitude toward him?

Answer: Yes, it does. I always pay attention to a person’s appearance, to his behavior, to his desire to enter into correct communication.

Question: How can you comfort people properly?

Answer: Sympathy, I guess.

Question: What relationship do you remember the most in your life?

Answer: Mutual assistance—that which is required from person to person.

Question: What type of relationship should we come to?

Answer: To the fact that I do not feel the difference, the distance, between me and others.

Advancing Correctly

760.4Question: How can a person’s consciousness and sensitivity protect him or her from unpleasantness and sufferings?

Answer: We should not engage too much in how to escape sufferings and how not to feel it.

We need to advance correctly, and even small sufferings will be felt as correct guiding forces. Man cannot move only by the right force. We will not get anywhere if we move only by pleasures.

We need to move along two lines: right and left. You take a small child by both hands and teach him how to walk.
