A Choice Or A Combination?

232.08Question: When a person is not only in his nature to receive, but also gains bestowal, the nature of the Creator, then does he have something to choose? Does he constantly choose between his own nature and the nature of the Creator?

Answer: He combines them in the middle line. And then he really feels he is completely free.

I cannot be in complete bestowal because I am not the Creator. I cannot be in the nature of receiving, because at the same time I am absolutely opposite to Him and I feel I am squeezed from all sides.

I can only choose such a combination between them, in which I would feel neither in this nor in that, in the so-called middle line. In this case, I can feel free like a creation.

To Be Or Not To Be Like The Creator

610.2Question: What would likeness to the Creator give me?

Answer: A lot. Being like the Creator.

Question: Is it worth it?

Answer: They say yes. 🙂

Comment: It is just that so little has been written about this. Very weak advertising.

My Response: The fact is that advertising cannot be given here because what can you offer now, in advance, before a person starts doing something for the sake of another?

Comment: Describe what a wonderful state it is to be like the Creator. So many different books have been written, but nothing about that.

My Response: A lot has been written. But all this will not give us anything and will not help us in any way.

Comment: Let us say that a person understands what it means to be a millionaire. Much has been written about this.

My Response: Yes, and besides, he sees examples in front of him. Here, there are no examples, since the similarity to the Creator does not fit into our consciousness or into any examples of our world.

Question: How can we, people, be? Something is demanded of us, but we do not understand what it is.

Answer: That is why the Creator gradually develops us to a state so that we feel that we cannot live in any system of laws except love your neighbor. After all, all other laws simply do not give us the opportunity to exist.

Question: Are we being developed by the method of the opposite state? From denial?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Must we renounce our present state?

Answer: It will be so that you will want to renounce it.

Question: Where is the freedom of choice here?

Answer: Freedom of choice is not here! It is out there, further on.

Question: So, at these stages, does nature give us freedom?

Answer: No. Here we are urged on, as they say with a stick, to happiness like little animals. To be or not to be similar to the Creator does not depend on us. All this is recorded in our program. All the same, we will come to this state. There are only two ways: fast and pleasant or long with suffering. So choose!

Toward Absolute Freedom

933Question: How is independence expressed when the Israelis leave Egypt? From what do they become independent?

Answer: So far they are only running away from Pharaoh, from their egoism. This is not yet gaining independence, but breaking away from slavery, and nothing more. There is a very long way from slave to master.

Comment: Let’s say a country gains independence, just as the Poles became independent from Russia …

My Response: What is their independence? They are all dependent on each other. And most importantly, they are in bad dependence, because it is selfish.

And if they begin to unite with each other in the properties of love and bestowal, then their dependence will be good, they will merge together. Then it will not be considered, as it is today, that they are linked by bonds of some kind. After all, if I know that you love me, then I am independent of you: I use your property of love as a property of my own independence, and you are mine. Then we are free, although the same connection exists between us.

We use our egoism as a link that ties us all into a single net and manifests itself in an eerily obligatory state. We see that we cannot get away from each other, on one hand. On the other hand, when we rise above the ego and build the property of love and bestowal over it, we gain the third level—independence.

The internal property of hatred, egoism, and the property of love, bestowal, create a third line in us—absolute freedom.

Question: As a result, we gain independence from the Creator?

Answer: First of all, from the Creator. Because the Creator is the only one who created this situation. So it is said: “I created evil and gave the Torah to correct it.” He is the first and only one. And I’m only secondary.

Attaining Freedom Over Our Nature

631.3Question: You say that we live in a system of absolute connection with one another, so does everyone determine the fate of the other?

Answer: It is not a system that we created ourselves. It is a system of nature that holds us together.

Question: And in the system we live in, do we have the freedom to determine the fate of each other because of our interconnection?

Answer: We do not choose our nature, we exist in it. There is nothing we can do about it. We have to take it as a given.

Today we are approaching a state that shows us that we are absolutely not free because we grew out of those frameworks, those laws, those social contracts that we existed before when it seemed to us that we were free.

Today we demand a different kind of freedom: spiritual freedom. Therefore, humanity is now beginning a new stage of its development—above the ego. We begin to feel that egoism is our slave master.

Freedom from the point of view of Kabbalah is for us to realize that we do not have freedom and that we  want to acquire some new qualities, that is, to attain freedom in the absolute sense of the word: freedom over our nature.

Any Freedom Is Relative

119Question: It is good when there is freedom of speech in the nation. We live in a country where I can write whatever I want. Before I lived in another country, in a time when one could be imprisoned for these things. So, is freedom of speech a good thing or a bad thing?

Answer: All freedom is relative. It must clearly correspond to the development of society. Upbringing, restriction, everything that exists, must come to a system in which a person would feel, on one hand, comfortable, on the other hand, free, and on the third, safe. These are all contradictory conditions.

In general, the network that needs to be created in society must be very flexible. But this remains a problem to this day.

We see that all societies are fighting for pluralism, for supposed freedom of opinion, for his opinion to dominate, and so on. That is, freedom, in general, implies a constant struggle.

Freedom Is Restriction

273.02Question: Free trade, free market, is this good or bad?

Answer: But we see that it is not free. As long as our world is governed by rigid egoistic laws, nothing can be free.

We must regulate these laws so that we do not kill each other around the corner. Therefore, we must forcefully drive ourselves into some kind of network of mutual relations, restrictions, contracts.

The fact is that all contractual conditions that exist in society today come to us from the time of Ancient Rome and even from earlier times. We rely on them. Our laws are based on Roman law, Greek law, slogans of the French Revolution, etc. This all exists to this day and carries a limiting factor.

Freedom means restriction. But within the framework of these restrictions, a person feels free. From what? From the fact that no one will attack him, nothing bad will happen to him. That is, freedom is practically a set of laws that help us not kill each other and to coexist peacefully within these laws.

The Path To Absolute Freedom

537Question: Does man remain free by acquiring the nature of the Creator? It is written that he becomes a slave of the Creator.

Answer: This is written to show us to what extent we enter a different state. By acquiring the property of bestowal and love, the property of mutual connection with each other, through this property of absolute mutual support, connection, and obligations, we sign a completely different social contract: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Everyone must achieve this state. By doing it, we begin to feel absolute freedom. It seems a paradox, by choosing the principle of not being free, man enters absolute freedom.

Our egoism is purposely created in such a way that it pushes us to the necessity to reach connection with others so that we in practice “love our neighbor.”

Man is not free, and the evil inclination is his nature. The only free choice that he has from the point of view of Kabbalah is to grasp this and to want to rise above his nature, which is identical to the attainment of the Creator.

In The Grip Of The Web Of Forces

424.01Humanity has fought for different forms of freedom for thousands of years, but in the end we see that we do not have it. Man begins to realize that he was not born free and he will not die free. “Against your will you are born; against your will you live, and against your will you die.”

The concept of freedom is quite relative. I can go as if to the right or to the left, do what I am predisposed to at any given moment. But this is not freedom because I cannot imagine how trapped I am in the network of forces and control.

Each of us is influenced by our genes, society, upbringing, and the generation in which we were born. Thus, a person has only the illusion of freedom. Within the framework of this illusion, we exist and fight for it.

To give man the opportunity to be in this illusion, in general, is the concern of all sovereigns and rulers, how to indulge people so that they are satisfied, but actually are completely controlled. This is what remains for people and their leaders.

The Difference Between Freedom And Anarchy

630.2Question: What is the difference between freedom and anarchy?

Answer: Freedom is the conscious need to be in the state in which you can properly communicate with other people. And anarchy is when everyone is allowed to do whatever they want by virtue of their capabilities, power, and so on.

Freedom is a restrictive anarchy, when I restrict myself, because otherwise I will be restricted.

Question: So from the point of view of Kabbalah, the nature of man is evil and his freedom should be restricted?

Answer: Yes. But we limit this to education, public opinion, and other methods. Therefore, in general, restrictions cannot be  forced but educational and encouraging in nature.

The Essence Of Human Nature

115.06Question: People have been fighting for freedom all their lives. The Declaration of Human Rights says: “In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society.” Do you agree with this saying?

Answer: To the extent that it does not go beyond nature.

The problem is that people proclaim the slogan “freedom, equality, fraternity” based on what they understand according to the upbringing they have received, what is in front of them in life. And Kabbalah talks about the laws of nature. This is much broader and may sound different.

From the point of view of nature, a person cannot be free because he is in his egoism. How do we get out of it? That’s the problem. I am by nature like this, he is different: kind, angry, nervous, envious, etc. We have a lot of all kinds of bad and good qualities. What should we do?

Question: In general, this is a philosophical question. Is the nature of man evil or good?

Answer: It is absolutely angry, because I only think about my own benefit. Maybe I do not wish the other person harm, but if it is good for me, then I will hurt him. There is such a “gray area” here.

From the point of view of Kabbalah, a person who exists in this world is evil! So it is said in the Torah that human nature is an egoistic desire to enjoy at anyone’s expense. This is how we were created! If an animal’s food, health, and reproduction are limited by their instinct, then a person wants to swallow the whole world.

Therefore, we have no freedom of action. We are ruled by an evil inclination. Whether you want to or not, you will use others, because you were born that way. To this, of course, we add education, restrictive laws, the opinion of society, but, in general, the person himself is evil.

The Torah says: The evil inclination of a person comes from his essence. Even before he is born, there is already evil in him.
