To Love Is To Fulfill The Other

632.3Question: In our world, there is an interesting possibility of smiling at a person and pretending that I like him when internally I may hate him. Therefore, he does not even know how I feel. Is this not so in Kabbalah?

Answer: If we are talking about purely spiritual processes, they do not involve any external, distracting, and concealing signs.

Question: To love means to fulfill the other, to live according to his desires. What does this give to a person? After all, this is against our nature.

Answer: This is against our nature, but if you can rise above your nature and remain in this state, then you are getting closer to the other. Despite your rejection of him, you fulfill him. Then, you really perform the action of bestowal by getting closer to the other altruistically.

Question: What does this give to a person? Why should he act like this? Besides, you say that nature pushes us to do this.

Answer: Otherwise, we will not be able to get closer to others. I must always rise above my rejection, hatred, or something unpleasant that comes from another person to me and get closer to him.

Virtual Communication Advantages

962.5Question: What are the differences between face-to-face and virtual methods of teaching?

Answer: Today, my teaching is also education. In principle, it has always been like this. Our study is based on mutual communication between everyone; me with students, students with me, questions and answers, and all kinds of discussions.

Therefore, I, from the beginning, warmly welcomed the Internet that has given us this opportunity. Back in the 90s, we created the first Internet site for the wisdom of Kabbalah in our region.

Question: What do you personally consider to be the advantages and disadvantages of virtual communication?

Answer: I see only advantages in this. After all, as a teacher, I can communicate with many students directly in real time and thus have the opportunity to teach thousands of people whereas, at one point in time, I could only teach a few dozen.

Launching The Mechanism Of Love

599.02

In the News (University of Oxford News and Events): “Anthropologists at the University of Oxford have discovered what they believe to be seven universal moral rules.

“The rules: help your family, help your group, return favours, be brave, defer to superiors, divide resources fairly, and respect others’ property, were found in a survey of 60 cultures from all around the world. …

“Dr Oliver Scott Curry, lead author and senior researcher at the Institute for Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology, said: ‘The debate between moral universalists and moral relativists has raged for centuries, but now we have some answers. People everywhere face a similar set of social problems, and use a similar set of moral rules to solve them. As predicted, these seven moral rules appear to be universal across cultures. Everyone everywhere shares a common moral code. All agree that cooperating, promoting the common good, is the right thing to do.'”

Question: What does Kabbalah say about the moral code?

Answer: Kabbalah says that all of the above points are rules of egoistic human interaction. Of course, they must be observed, but they have nothing to do with the upper laws.

At the animate level, they are observed automatically. And a person, since he or she is an egoist and capable of harming others much more than any animal, needs these principles. It would be nice if they were observed.

However, this is neither the task of Kabbalah nor its domain. Kabbalah calls for observing other principles: the principles of love, when we do not need to be told to act one way and not another.

For a person who feels love for his neighbor in himself, all these codes are natural and one cannot act differently. You cannot write a book of laws on how to deal with a baby for a mother. She does not need it; she feels, understands, and does everything purely for the benefit of her child.

Question: Do you think that it is possible to summon such a force of nature that would trigger the mechanism of love in a person, like a mother to a child?

Answer: Yes. That is what we must do. And then there is no need for any moral codes. One should not have to constantly refer to a book of laws to see if he is doing something right or wrong, something he may be convicted or punished for.

Question: We consider the criterion of moral education to be people’s actions and their motivations. Do you think there are any other moral criteria?

Answer: I would say that the real criterion for morality is the existence of the upper force and its highest principle of love for everyone.

963.6Question: Do you consider yourself a confrontational person?

Answer: I don’t know. I express my opinion, stick to it, and that’s it. But I can accept someone else’s too.

Question: How often do you get in a conflict and with whom?

Answer: Very rarely. Basically I have no one to disagree with. There are disagreements with opponents of Kabbalah, but I would not call them conflicts.

Question: What type of conflicts do you have more: interpersonal or internal?

Answer: Neither this nor that. I do not live in conflict. I know what should happen according to the plan of nature, and I try to explain it to others. I work, so to speak, in one direction.

Question: How do you feel about conflicts in general?

Answer: I believe that a reasonable, correct conflict develops people, and is a very good stimulus for development.

Question: What, from your point of view, is the solution for conflicts?

Answer: It is when opposing parties make a decision or a person who is in conflict within himself makes a decision that brings them closer to the higher force of nature.

Question: Do you prefer a strategy of resistance or a strategy of withdrawal in conflict?

Answer: I don’t think withdrawing is a good thing. There must be a reasonable resistance that leads to a result.

Question: Do you consider yourself an expert in the field of conflict resolution?

Answer: Absolutely not. They do not come to me for solutions, and I try not to solve anything.

Question: Would you create a conflicting situation if it were necessary for achieving the goal?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How would you personally get out of a conflict? Do you have any rules of your own?

Answer: I would try to stick to my personal rules.

Question: What do you do when a student is angry with you?

Answer: I understand his condition. Maybe he is unhappy with me and, quite possibly, not without reason. I try to explain the situation to him.

Question: Is there anyone with whom you are currently in conflict?

Answer: No. There are a few people in the world who would really like to annoy me. But I think that I need to have such people.

Question: Can you agree to give in to a conflict situation in order to maintain a relationship, for example, in a family or with a student?

Answer: It is quite possible if the conflict cannot be resolved at that moment. We need to step back and wait until we can solve it.

Question: Would you communicate with an obviously confrontational person?

Answer: I don’t mind. I don’t see any problems or obstacles in it.

Question: Have you had conflicts and arguments with your teacher?

Answer: Practically no.

Question: For you, does the end justify the means in resolving conflict?

Answer: The end justifies the means.

Question: With whom should one be angry with or whom is there to clash with if the Creator is nature and those around one have no freewill at all? Onto whom could we pour out all the accumulated anger?

Answer: Only upon your “donkey”— the egoism in us.

Feel People At A Distance

962.1Question: Can you feel your students by teaching them virtually? After all, there are millions of people in front of you. You don’t even know their names. You don’t know what they look like. What exactly do you feel?

Answer: It doesn’t matter. How does it happen in a large audience? Let’s say I am teaching at a university where there are several thousand students sitting in a huge hall. If I’m in front of them on the screen, how is this worse? I believe that modern technological innovations do not interfere at all. It all depends on what we fill our channels with.

Comment: Still, I am still trying to understand what it means to feel a huge number of people, even the whole of humanity? For example, my body is made up of billions of cells, but I don’t feel every cell.

My Response: The body knows how to manage itself; it has all of this under control.

Question: However, can a person only feel a few close people or the states that they are going through?

Answer: No. If we aspire to implement one common theme and want to come to one mutual conclusion, then I can have a very clear, close contact with all the people in the audience. There are no problems here. Everything depends only on how much we understand and accept our one common goal.

Question: Let’s say, sometimes I feel that I have something going on with my liver or stomach or lungs. Can you feel, in the same way, that something happened to the students in Latin America, let’s say, somewhere in Chile? Do you feel them in this way?

Answer: That way also, but it’s not just that. Through our connection, we can support each other, motivate, take care of, and carry each other within us. In general, we can make the connection more dynamic.

By The Whip Or Voluntarily?

294.2Question: Failure to comply with moral norms does not entail corporeal punishment, and a person decides for himself whether to follow them or not. Do you think it is necessary to introduce a system of punishments and rewards regarding their implementation?

Answer: I consider it necessary to raise a person to the level where he sees that the implementation of moral standards itself leads one to receive reward or punishment from nature, directly, on the spot.

Question: But since it has not yet happened, is it possible to introduce punishments in the form of a state law?

Answer: Probably you could. But this is not right. This is a policy by the whip. Suppose, you did not give up your seat on public transport to a woman, then a thousand dollars disappears from your account. And if it were a pregnant woman, then ten thousand dollars.

Question: Is it possible to teach a person to comply with norms in this way?

Answer: It is. But it will not correct a person.

Question: What will correct him?

Answer: Only if he consciously, not from fear, realizes that by doing so he is approaching a common force, a common soul.

The method by the whip helps only in the beginning, in order to draw attention to these laws, but not further on.

Let The Kind Win, Not The Strong

552.02Question: Multiculturalism is a concept that recognizes that all cultures are equal and have the same right to exist. Do you agree with this statement?

Answer: It depends on which cultures and what they lead us to. I do not believe in pretty words. “Multi” does not exist in nature at all. There is only one upper force in nature. If we want to be like it, then we come to a good denominator. If not, then we come to the bad.

Comment: But there is such a variety in nature!

My Response: This variety only exists in human nature in which the strong always win. If we want to rise above our nature so as not to devour each other, then we need for the kind to win, not the strong. Only then will we be able to survive.

Merging Into A Single Culture

600.02Question: Multiculturalism is not about the parallel existence of different identities, but about their interconnection, which implies both mutual penetration and mutual transformation. How is the interaction of cultures expressed if everyone remains in their own culture and does not mix with others?

Answer: No. You can only mix in a mutual, kind complement.

Question: What then can remain unique: language, traditions, some kind of moral norms?

Answer: I do not think that as a result of mutual penetration, something special will remain in each culture and in general the cultures themselves will remain. As a result, they will outgrow themselves and turn into one single culture—human. There will be no division and names according to nations, nationalities, times, parts of the Earth, etc.

Integration means that we will learn how to come to a common denominator. Why should we be so different? Why hold on to something of your own, yours, and mine? Why can’t we just be human?

Comment: This is how nature created us. You say we must follow the laws of nature.

My Response: This is how our egoistic nature created us. Therefore, we are very different and hold on to the differences between ourselves. And if we rise above it, we will become just people. We will be good and pleasant with each other, we will not notice differences between us in any areas. Why is that bad?

The Society With No Future

182.02Question: In ancient times, immoral people were kept out of science. Today, there is no connection between the moral principles of a person and his profession at all. Can this situation be improved?

Answer: We need to increase the moral level of a human, otherwise we will be forced to abandon our future because we will destroy ourselves in the end.

There is a convention that bans the production of toxic substances, yet who observes it? We cannot be guided by all kinds of restrictions that we introduce ourselves.

We must raise a person so that he can see that such things in the world work against him. A society that produces poisonous substances ruins itself. A society like this has no future.

Comment: Humility is inherent in people who have advanced in terms of moral self-improvement more than others. They don’t want to lecture other people.

My Response: That’s wrong. This is a reflection of their egoism. They must overcome themselves and publicize their ideas, their foundations, and their philosophy because these are all for the good of society. It does not matter whether a person feels good or bad because of this, whether he feels shy or not. He must do it!

Communication Problems: Xenophobia And Racism

204Question: The downside of the desire for self-preservation is intolerance and even discrimination, which can grow to enormous proportions leading entire communities to violence against other nations. What do you think is the root or cause for this xenophobia?

Answer: The egoism of man, his defense, his self-preservation, when he, within the framework of his narrow aspirations, sees that the most important thing for him is to be united with his own kind and then he will be stronger. He does not understand that the power of nature lies precisely in diversity and not in one-sidedness.

Comment: In addition to xenophobia, racism can also be a problem in communication.

There is a widespread belief that there are races among people that can be distinguished based on their physical differences. However, scientific research shows that humanity is not composed of separate, well-defined biological groups and that race is an imaginary category or social construct. All people belong to the same human entity, so there is no point in talking about races.

My Response: I believe that with regard to spiritual development, which the science of Kabbalah is concerned with, neither skin color, nor origin, nor nationality have any meaning. We must understand that we are people and we all must unite into one common whole.

Comment: Scientists say that racism is embedded in the human brain. There are parts of the brain that we use to perceive which ethnic group a person belongs to. Within a split second, our brain determines who is a stranger and who one of us is. Therefore, people who are not even racists may unknowingly display racist tendencies.

My Response: Yes, this is embedded in us very deeply, and we involuntarily evaluate a person precisely by his belonging to a race or even to a nation. We understand that the most important thing for us is the mentality of a person: how he looks at the world, how he thinks, and so on.

I do not think that Europeans by origin who were brought up in China or India and absorbed the local culture will be able to communicate with Europeans properly. They are closer to the people whom they grew up with, whom they understand.

Therefore, it cannot be said that the most important thing is nationality, race, etc. I think that the main thing is a deep inner, psychological understanding of each other.
