The Diagnosis Of Bialik

One of the leading Russian news sites in Israel, Zahav.ru, published this article by my student.

“The Diagnosis of Bialik”

“Scholarly Jews who were present in the early days of the state of Israel shaped the goal which identified the main problem it faces. Nevertheless, this didn’t prevent us from continuing to postpone the solution for a later time.

“Tel Aviv, Balfour Street, the year 1934. The last speech of Chaim Nachman Bialik. Soon he will travel to Vienna for an operation and return from there in a coffin. What did he talk about? About the division and the hatred that is destroying us from within: ‘How did we greet our brothers fleeing from war? We raised the price of housing and took their last pennies from them…the glitter of the Satanic gold blinded our eyes. We boasted the shine of the devilish gold blinds our eyes. We took pride in our initiative and prosperity, but in fact this was an empty speculative commotion.’

“What concerned Bialik was not the external threats, not problems with the authorities, but the root of all the troubles of the people—losing themselves in the twisting road of history. For hundreds of years they tried ‘to be like everyone else,’ conforming to the external standards. And even on their own land they continued in the same direction of assimilation—not physically, but ideologically and according to values.

“To this very day we have insisted upon imitating the ‘enlightened’ part of humanity, and are convinced that this is the only right way. But is it not here that our essential error lies because of which we haven’t attained true peace, not with our neighbors and not with ourselves?

“The conclusion of Bialik is prophetic and relevant for our times: ‘The main symptom of the disease is a terrible lack of internal unity, factional conflict and unfounded hatred that is tearing us apart.’

“Since the time that we fought for our independence, for our right to live in this land, we have not stopped quarreling between us and we even murder each other on the basis of factional disputes, as in the case of the ‘Altalena.’ We don’t miss an opportunity to warm our hands on the troubles of our brothers. Imagine the development of events in the case of a great new immigration, say from the Ukraine or from France and Belgium. I’m sure you’ve said this before—raise the price of housing!

“So what has changed? Nothing. It makes no difference that now laws are accepted in the Knesset of Israel and not by the Mandate government—we still remain in spiritual exile, on the outskirts of the land to which we should have returned differently, not just physically.

“It wasn’t only Bialik who indicated that separation is the main problem of the Jewish people and unity is the key to prosperity. Bialik, the famous poet, often visited a modest house in the old neighborhood of Tel Aviv, Neve Tzedek, at 21 Brotherhood Street, where Abraham Kook, the first Chief Rabbi of Israel, lived. In the 60 years since the nation of Israel was born, specifically he has been recognized by the entire nation as the person who has had the greatest influence on Judaism. One line below his would be—the name David Ben-Gurion. Nevertheless this recognition has remained as merely a formality, as a memorial to Rav Kook. After all, we haven’t listened to his message from the last century.

“And Abraham Kook spoke and shouted that we lacked cohesion and an understanding of our role in history. He saw the immigration to Israel as a basis for the revival of the nation and unity as a unifying platform for self-realization. Nevertheless, many in the religious sector hated Rav Kook because of his commitment to Zionism, and the secular, on the contrary, hated him because of his faith. In the Autumn of 1913, together with a group of Zionist Rabbis, Rav Kook entered the dining hall of Kibbutz Merhaviah, and immediately silence pervaded the room.

“Many suspicious glances stared at the strange guests, and one of the settlers shouted: ‘Don’t waste your words and energy, you will not find even one here who will join you!’ Rav Kook approached him and said: ‘We have come not to be joined but to join.’

“Over the course of hundreds of years we have lost the ability to appreciate our sages. Maybe Kook, like Bialik, appeared before his time, and remains as a believer in a utopia that is not understood, though in fact he didn’t talk about anything utopian. Today, when before our eyes we differentiate between people from different nations, cultivating enmity and hatred between them and do this with understanding, unity seems like a very logical solution and even a necessity.

“But the word ‘logic’ is not written on our flag. The Gallup center recently arranged a global survey about problems that concern people. 70 thousand people from 65 nations indicated their problems —’crying’ about corruption (21% in contrast to 15% in the previous year), economic difficulties (14%) poverty and inequality (12%). In brief these are problems that are recognized and understood in Israel. But these are the results. And there is one cause—isolation, apathy, mutual distance in heart and mind.

“Why doesn’t anyone complain about this? Maybe people are simply confused by the media? But we already know the answer that was heard not long ago and hasn’t lost its relevance.

“How is it possible to reach us? Even the Holocaust didn’t cause the people to think again about their fate.

“’I already let my essential considerations be heard in the year 1933. In addition to this, I spoke with the leaders of the generation, and my words weren’t accepted then, even though I shouted loudly and warned about the collapse of the world, but this didn’t make an impression….’ —that is what a close friend of Abraham Kook wrote, the Kabbalist Yehudah Ashlag. He shouted not only here, but in Poland too, from which he tried to bring out 300 families before the Second World War. Everything was ready, and nobody interfered, except…the Jewish leadership that banished Ashlag and really drove him away to Palestine, making it impossible for him to realize his plan. Needless to say, both those leaders and the families that he enlisted perished in the Holocaust.

“Isn’t all of this enough for us to draw conclusions? For us it is not enough.

“’The son of Ashlag came to me,’ writes Ben-Gurion in his diary in the year 1958, ‘I told him about my meetings with his father, when I wanted to talk with him about Kabbalah and he wanted to talk with me about Socialism…,’ that’s all.

“Smart, knowledgeable, caring people unanimously indicated the essence of the problems, the systemic social defect that impeded the nation from the start, but their voice has been swallowed in the cacophony of mutual accusations and recriminations, in minute disputes with great implications. If even a person possessing stature like Ben-Gurion didn’t comprehend, didn’t absorb, the message that was so clear to the members of his generation, it is not surprising that we still suffer from the same malady.

“The diagnosis of Bialik is correct: in our land we are strangers to each other to a great degree. Israel is split, divided into sectors, and confused by a greedy gaze at a golden calf clothed in the honorable clothing of liberal values.

“Are we the only democracy in the Middle East? Yes. But democracy is sick, lacking warmth in the normal relationships between people. So has the time come to recover from the illness? ‘Our Tel Aviv is sick,’ said Bialik, ‘And I bless you and myself for us to merit to see signs of recovery after I return.’ Sometimes hope lives longer than the person himself and passes on to his descendants, so that they will realize it in spite of everything.”

A Disastrous Direction for Europe

Question: Meanwhile, the European conflicts only become sharper. How is it possible to move the process onto the right track for union?

Answer: The problem is that when the aspiration for union is accompanied by competitiveness and hatred, it leads to chauvinism.

Good trends towards the consolidation of people by being mixed with rivalry and xenophobia have been made more difficult through political games, producing Nazism. And in modern language, this is right-wing extremism, extremist union for the sake of the annihilation of everything that is “not with us,” “not like us.” Instead of educating people and providing information for them, they want to annihilate them.

And without a doubt, everything is advancing towards this.

In order to change the direction, we must conduct Integral Education in Europe. We must explain to people that the present direction will ultimately bring them to World War III, which for this continent will be an immense disaster, for the more that nations are developed, they are more “delicate,” “fragile,” and weak. For example, the difference that would result from disconnecting electricity or disconnecting the water supply in Africa and in Europe would be awesome.

Today we are dependent upon a multitude of factors that are most essential for our lives. Moreover, in order to put them on the threshold of survival, we don’t have to cause physical damage to these systems or others at all; it is enough to disrupt the operation of the computers that manage them.

Question: So how is it possible to halt the deterioration towards war?

Answer: This would be only through the dissemination of the method of Integral Education. It is this which is specifically accommodated to the union of the modern world.

This method says that the center doesn’t need to promote the interests of one nation or faction but the common interests of co-existence. We must stretch connections between people and really connect them, and not just for show.

It is possible to begin by talking about small, separate, and localized initiatives in any country or society. But in general, union must become the province of everyone. And if in the framework of the correction of the entire world, the Jewish people in Israel will provide a good example, then everyone will accept it.

Let’s go back to Europe where competition and hatred undermine union. The time has come to explain to the Europeans that the world is “round” and mutually connected, that it is impossible to correct one thing without the other. And this means that all of our efforts must be long-range and directed towards helping the entire world, towards concern for humanity as a whole, until the entire Earth will become one united family.

It is already clear to everyone today that the world is integral and is becoming a single global “village.” And this means that all the inhabitants of this village must live in balance and harmony with each other. How? Let’s begin with our European nations where the problem of conflicts and quarrels has already become quite tangible.

The problem is derived from a continuing and gathering lack of balance. So let’s begin by introducing the method of balance into communities and cities, provinces and cantons. Each country will receive the mechanism appropriate for its “balance,” and after that, these European examples will be used by us in other continents as well.

That every nation will reach balance on the basis of its national outlook is normal. In any case, the integration process will continue with an international standard. This also cannot be otherwise in a world in which everyone depends upon each other.

“Wisdom Among The Gentiles, Believe It”

Laitman_167Moses’s arguments persuaded Jethro to leave his children in the camp of the Jews. The grandchildren of Jethro entered the land of Israel, and as Moses promised, they received the fertile lands of Jericho and its surroundings.

Ultimately, they became prominent masters of knowledge in Torah. The descendants of Jethro became famous as the leaders of the Sanhedrin, teaching Torah to the entire community of Israel (Midrash Mesaper, Parshat Beha’alotcha).

Those among the nations of the world who had the greatest egoistic desires and succeeded in correcting them became the greatest of the generation. They became higher and greater than the leaders of the tribes, as in the example of Rabbi Akiva.

According to its root, Israel is Galgalta ve Eynayim, the easiest and purest desires that cannot absorb the Light of Hochma into them, whereas the nations of the world, when they receive this method from Israel and correct themselves, they discover a very great Light of Hochma. So, it is written, “If someone says that there is wisdom among the gentiles, believe it” (Eicha Rabbah 2:13) because it exists in a stage of correction.

The nations of the world who attain the concept of “Israel” join the people of Israel to become a bridge for their people. Israel itself cannot become such a bridge since to do this it would have to become AHP de Aliyah, which is an ascent from below to above.

So, it is imperative to disseminate the wisdom of Kabbalah to the entire world.

Practical Results Of The Wisdom Of Kabbalah

laitman_214Question: Which practical results does the wisdom of Kabbalah bring to us?

Answer: We are surprised, why in the world does everything “somehow happen not the way we would want”; we don’t understand why our actions constantly cause negative results and reactions.

The wisdom of Kabbalah explains that the reason for all of our failures is that we don’t take the conditions into account, that all of our actions pass through a “block” that is called the “goal of creation.”

Through our actions, or more correctly through our intentions, we send signals to it. And to the same degree that these signals are compatible with the program of creation, they influence us with positive actions. And to the degree of the incompatibility with the goal of creation, they influence us with negative actions (an opposite negative correlation).

As long as we have not absorbed and understood this system of the management of creation, bringing creation to a goal, we receive unexpected and unpleasant events without understanding that this is a reaction to our activities.

The wisdom of Kabbalah reveals the organ that manages this to us, and we learn through working with it, correcting our actions according to its program, and eliminating any unpleasant surprises.

A New Look At The Leader Of The Generation

laitman_943Comment: Historically, the union of the Jewish people took place under the leadership of a leader: Abraham, Moses, etc. It seems that a person, a messenger, always appears.

Answer: All the leaders of the Jewish people became their representative for a short period in the movement toward unity. Unity is the central goal of the entire creation, not only of our world, but also of all the worlds. And at each stage a person appeared who made a small step towards this.

Question: Many circles within Judaism are waiting for the coming of the Messiah, the spiritual leader who will unite the people. Do you see a possibility like this now?

Answer: I think that this leader is our organization, which is creating an infrastructure for the education of the people and an example of our common mission to all of humanity. It could be that this will happen in another 10, 15, or 20 years. We are working towards this, and I personally hope that my students will take this role upon themselves. I don’t see any other force in the world that can bring the world to unity. The external conditions will help this so that our world group will continue to grow and its students will rise up so that they will be able to become the leaders of the generation.

Comment: This is an entirely new view of a leader. In the past leaders were separate people, whereas now you are saying that this could be a group.

Answer: The time has come, and everything will be revealed from above. I personally do not worry about our future; just do your work.

The Intention And Act Of Dissemination Of Kabbalah In The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanComment: Complaints are made that you are opening the wisdom of Kabbalah not only among Jews but also for the whole world; what do you say about that?

Answer: It is written in the Prophets that the nations of the world will carry the Jews on their shoulders to the Temple. Where will they get the knowledge and desire to carry out this work? They must aspire to their redemption and understand that it will come to them only through the people of Israel, and then they will carry us to the Temple. Otherwise we won’t get there—only together.

The nations of the world pressure us and push us forward, for we have no particular strength or desire for this. The intention comes from us, and the force must come from them. For this to happen, it is necessary to engage in dissemination with them.

Question: Does this mean that they must also motivate us through intense pressure, suffering, and wars…?

Answer: Not just through this. They will consciously take us upon their shoulders, bring us to Jerusalem, and together with us they will arrive there themselves. About this it is said by the prophet Isaiah: “And the peoples shall take them and bring them to their place, and the House of Israel shall inherit them on the soil of the Lord…” (Isaiah 14:2)

But is it possible to achieve this without dissemination among the nations of the world? After all, it is necessary that they have the knowledge about what can save them and the whole world.

We need to consciously carry out common work and help each other mutually—we in intention, they in action.

On The Shoulders Of The Great Kabbalists

laitman_940Question: Is there anything left of the great work of Kabbalists throughout history?

Answer: Of course! We are standing on their shoulders and therefore we seem to be so strong and clever. But we have nothing that is ours! Everything we have received is from the Kabbalists of the past, and now we can add to the foundations that they have laid.

This will be done in two ways: first and foremost there should be wide dissemination of the method of unity among the people living in Israel and among the Jews all over the world.

On the other hand, the external pressure coming from Europe, America, Russia and all the other countries in the form of different boycotts will increase.

Eventually, the external pressure and the internal dissemination explaining why this is happening and how we can change things will influence the people and they will understand that the only way to accomplish anything is by correcting ourselves.

The only way we can protect ourselves is by developing ourselves and by bringing the attributes of connection, love, and bestowal to the world. We have to discover everything on ourselves and among us, and then waves of unity and love will spread from us to all the nations of the world.

Imaginary And True Freedom, Part 8 – A Worldwide University

laitman_578Comment: If I were a doctor in the future generation and signs of emptiness, depression, being closed, and despair appeared in my patient, I would not extinguish these signs with the help of pills; rather, I would explain to him towards what he was heading and aim him in the right direction.

Answer: I think that in the future, instead of doctors there will be guides who provide people with their new states, through training, education, preparation of internal, psychological, and spiritual workshops that bring the person out to a feeling of outer space. So instead of being closed within himself and only feeling the entire environment within himself, as happens today, it is necessary to bring the person out to a feeling of what is outside of him. This will be the role of the new worldwide university, and now that a passage towards a new need is happening within humanity, a new evaluation of life, we need to think about creating a completely new educational network.

To be continued….

The Focal Point Of Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When I pass through the streets of Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, I look around and think, how is it possible to unite? How?

Answer: The idea is that you are evaluating everything according to your powers and understand that this is impossible. But we didn’t have these powers to start with, so there is no reason to look for them within us. We must understand that these powers are found deep within our nature. We only need to begin with unity and immediately we will feel how they awaken within us, making us close, and we become like one person with one heart.

The same thing will happen in parallel with the rest of the people. All of us exist in a single field, and the Jews within it as the source of unity, from there waves spread to all of humanity. To the degree that we unite, humanity will suddenly begin to calm down, will begin to smile at each other, and peace and well-being will prevail.

As soon as we attain our unity, it will be clear that we are not 16 million Jews in the world, but half a billion, for example. For somewhere the ten tribes of the people of Israel are roaming; they will also join us and begin to unite with the same method. And then others will begin to unite, the heaviest and most distant parts of humanity. Everything depends on the focal point only and that is the people of Israel!

The Temple Is The Measurement Of Spirituality Level

laitman_560Question: Why was the Second Temple destroyed?

Answer: Both the First and Second Temples were destroyed so that the Jews could be dispersed among the nations of the world; they laid the makings of certain elements of connection with the upper force of nature and with the completion of their development, starting at the end of the 20th century, started their elevation. It is said that the Jews went into exile in order to collect the souls of the nations of the world.

Both Temples symbolized the achievement of a very high level of the spiritual Light, the level of Haya, and the Second Temple symbolized the level of Neshama (soul).

Afterward, the Jews had to “fall and dissolve” within the nations of the world. Also under the concept of “the nations of the world,” the meaning isn’t what we usually imagine, because according to the spiritual roots, there are only 70 nations of the world, and the Jews had to be dispersed and assimilate among them. It was stated that at the end of the 20th century, the general correction of the world would begin, realized first with the nation of Israel and then gradually joined by the rest of the nations.
