Question: Even before your teacher, there was a vertical teacher-student relationship and now it is spreading outward to the masses. Are these the same laws? What is changing? Or does the essence remain the same?

Answer: Before our time, everything really spread from top to bottom. But there were periods, mostly in ancient times, when it spread in breadth, in circles.

Question: Can we say that you are the first teacher who teaches the world in breadth?

My Response: Yes, it just so happened. This is how it happens.

Question: The law of the circle is completely different from the law of the line. Is it possible to be somewhere in distant orbits, but to be closer than in the closest orbits?

Answer: Yes. But this is a mutual dependence between the surrounding and the inner light. As, for example, a small child is closest to his mother, and the older he gets, the further away he gets, although he understands her more. But it is also a mutual dependence between light and egoism.

Question: What motivates you to write a book? You said that you published your first book in 1983. Why did you write it?

Answer: Because I met many people who have asked me: “What is Kabbalah?” In those years, most of society did not know anything about Kabbalah at all.

Therefore, I decided that people should be introduced to it and given the main provisions, the basic concepts. I called this book Basic Principles of Kabbalah in an Accessible Retelling. In my opinion, it turned out well. At least, it spread very quickly. Immediately, the American Embassy bought 300 copies of each of the first three books I wrote.

Closer to the 90s, it became possible to publish them in Russia in the quantities of 50,000 copies.

Question: Is there any connection with the fact that immediately after writing these books, more students began to come to you?

Answer: No. I didn’t have many students at that time. When perestroika began in the Soviet Union, people began to come to Israel and discover Kabbalah. Although there had been books published about Kabbalah, the process was slow.

Gradually, a Russian-speaking group was organized in parallel with the Hebrew-speaking one. Once a week, I taught at my home, where 30 to 40 people gathered.

In addition, I conducted a radio program in Russian, and this also attracted newcomers in those years. Then I gave lectures in Canada, in America, although I rarely went there. At that time, there was no such need because Kabbalah had only just begun to spread. It all started closer to 2000.

Question: Are the books you have written now translated into many languages?

Answer: Yes, because I have students in all countries of the world. They are Japan, Oceania, Russia, China, India, the countries of Europe, not to mention South and North America, which I have traveled up and down, giving lectures, holding seminars and congresses. I do not know where I do not have students. Even in Africa, there are regular students.

Question: At what level must the group be so that the wars in the world will end and aggressions disappear?

Answer: This requires recognition of evil to which, if not everyone, then at least the main desires of humanity, the main Kelim (vessels), must come.

They do not have to be fully corrected, but they must reach the recognition of evil and yearn for connection between them so that the positive force that they intend to nurture between them will connect them.

Then all the wars in the world will stop. In the meantime, they are necessary to force humanity to yearn for the good. If it were not for wars, people would not feel that they need to connect in any way.

Indeed, evil is not really bad. It is simply an unfulfilled good that we are too lazy to fill.

Baal HaSulam, “The Prophecy of Baal HaSulam“:  Afterwards, the Lord spoke unto me with a vista, saying, “Lay down on your right-hand side.” And I laid down on the ground. And He said unto me: “What do you see?”

And I said, “I see many peoples and nations, rising and falling, and their faces are deformed humans.” And the Lord said unto me: “If you can grant form to all these nations and blow into them the spirit of life, then I shall bring you to the land that I have sworn unto your fathers, to give unto you, and all my goals will have been fulfilled by you.”

The fact is that we are simply making the translation easier so that people would really understand the idea of correction. But in general, of course, the strength of Baal HaSulam lives in his works.

It is through his connection with the Creator, with the upper force, and through his commentaries on The Zohar and all other works that we can approach the completion of this goal.

Everything that practically corrects us is that double-edged sword that he received from the Creator and with which we raise ourselves, correct ourselves, and shift from our egoistic attitude to the world to love and bestowal.

Question: What does it mean “a face of a man”?

Answer: “A face of a man” means “similar to the Creator” because “man – Adam,” comes from the word “similar- Domeh” to the Creator.

That is, the Creator says to Baal HaSulam “Make people become similar to Me. That is why I give you the sword.”

Question: In our world, there are so many different people in terms of mentality, appearance, everything. How is it possible that such different people scattered all over the world will suddenly want to be together?

Answer: The same thing happens in our body. We just don’t fully understand it yet. Is there any cell in our body like another? If it were completely similar to another cell, it would be it.

It exists because it can give the whole body its own method of maintenance, its own work, its own bestowal. Are the cells of the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys similar to each other? They are completely different tissue.

Question: How will people feel this in Asia, Africa, Latin America?

Answer: That is why, first of all, we must accept as an absolutely necessary condition that each person is unique, and we need to protect and  preserve his individuality, let him personally develop spiritually.

Therefore, the dissemination of Kabbalah should be absolutely voluntary, free, in accordance with how much a person begins to understand and feel that this is really a method of correcting the world, raising it to the next level, to the next dimension, which we must now go through.

Everyone should perceive this to the best of their development. There are some people who go straight for it. There are those who agree, but with a degree of indifference. There are people who reject it, who cannot agree with it in any way, who feel something hateful in it.

It all depends on a person’s level of development. But everyone has to pass all the levels. And in any case, you cannot put pressure on anyone here, but only tell everyone that there is such a method that speaks about the meaning of our life and about how we should rise to the next level of its existence during it. At the same time, our world gradually, as we move away from it, disappears, and turns into the spiritual world. We emanate into a completely different state.

Question: What is the difference between a corporeal group and a virtual group?

Answer: If the friends work correctly between them, there is probably no difference.

Why probably? In order to do that, we need to go through certain phases of development, to achieve something, to begin to understand and to perceive it, to process these phases, and then to advance. We are pioneers in this sense, because we are doing something that has never been fulfilled in history.

After all, the group that Abraham assembled in ancient Babylon and called Israel operated in different conditions. They were not shattered and they ascended to the level of the First Temple, which means one level below full correction.

Then they were partly shattered on the level of the First Temple, and fully shattered on the level of the Second Temple. They passed another 2,000 years of detachment from the spiritual state. This is the reason that today we are beginning to reconnect.

Since the Babylonians dispersed all over the globe at the time, and Abraham’s group also dispersed in the world and mixed with other nations, we now begin to gradually reassemble, not knowing from where and how. Yet, these are not our own independent actions, but the outcome of the Creator’s effect, the effect of the general light on us.

So when we reassemble, we don’t know how to act. There are general schemas, general rules of the correction of the broken Kli (shattered vessel) of the one soul. But no matter what you ask about, I will not tell you that that is the way it should be, even if I am absolutely sure of the answer, because in the spiritual world there is the rule of “there is none wiser than the experienced.”

A wise man is a person who undergoes everything and speaks about it only from his own experience, but who knows the levels that we are undergoing now? There are no such people in our generation.

It will be easier for the next generation though. We will leave them our teachers, our impressions, we will leave them the broken Kli (shattered vessel) that we have begun to reconstruct, and so, of course, it will be easier for them to do it.

I am not quite sure how the group will undergo the levels of attainment. We are advancing by making small steps, and although we are advancing quite fast, every small step is still new, so time will tell. We will intensively move forward and see for ourselves how it works.

On the whole, our movement is similar to the states Kabbalists underwent in earlier generations, but there may also be changes since group work is implemented for the first time. It is new, since throughout history the assembly of the broken Kelim (shattered vessels), the vessel of the general soul has never been fulfilled.

Answer: I have been teaching a Kabbalistic group for more than twenty years. We have not yet reached the level to engage with all of humanity.

However, we have created a huge system of virtual classes in forty different languages, published books, and held conferences on all continents. But this is still the beginning of the path.

Kabbalah has been hidden for many millennia and only since 1995 began to be revealed to people. Therefore, today we are at the beginning of the path.

Question: Does the spiritual influence on all of humanity depend only on your group or does it also depend on the support of those who listen a little, read, and are interested but are not yet included in this?

Answer: We are relying on all of our friends who are literally on every continent in the world.

The fact is that humanity must nevertheless understand the reason for our shattering and for our terrible descent into this state where we do not see the future, and everyone experiences anxiety and depression.

Scientists say that science has exhausted itself. Financial experts say that there is nothing further to do and that a general collapse is approaching. Psychologists say that the whole world is immersing itself into drugs.

In principle, we have come to a state in which, according to Kabbalah and all spiritual practices in general, humanity needs connection. Therefore, on the one hand, life has pushed us toward the need for connection and to find solutions to our problems. On the other hand, we still need to develop the wisdom of Kabbalah ,which precisely on this topic  establishes its vision of correcting the world.

Comment: People write to you: “Michael Laitman, you make Kabbalah primitive when you want to reveal it to everyone. Kabbalah is for the elite, it is the inner part of the Torah. And you bring it out into the world. Don’t do it!”

My Response: I would agree with you, but the Kabbalistic books tell us something else: that the time will come—this was said thousands of years ago—when Kabbalah will be opened to everyone.

It is said in the Torah: “I will bring them to My holy mount, and I will cause them to rejoice in My house of prayer, their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be acceptable upon My altar, for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. So you are not entirely correct.

Question: So these are precisely Kabbalistic sayings?

Answer: Of course. The statements of King David or the ancient Kabbalists or The Book of Zohar.

Question: But this was said by Kabbalists. And to you, King David was also a Kabbalist?

Answer: Of course a Kabbalist! Comprehending the Creator, writing such things that reveal the upper world to us!

Comment: But this letter is clearly written by a person for whom there was a ban for studying Kabbalah.

My Response: That is his business.

Question: In principle, are you sure that time has come for the absolute, full disclosure of this science?

Answer: Kabbalists said that too.

Question: And the fact that you teach absolutely everyone?

Answer: It is also said about this: “Know the Lord,” for they shall all know Me from their smallest to their greatest”

Question: Do you think that that time is now?

Answer: And they said that too. I don’t say anything on my own, they all say this.

Question: Are you sure that now is the time of the last generation? Or maybe it is a mistake?

Answer: If they said so, I abide by it.

Question: And they say that this time is right now?

Answer: Yes. I was a disciple of the last great Kabbalist Rabash, and what I received from him, I carry on.

Question: Rabash had this confidence that “doors would open”?

Answer: Undoubtedly!

Comment: Still, Rabash had a small group.

My Response: He could not afford more. And I don’t feel limited by anything. Times are different now.

Comment: Yes. But you have provoked a lot of criticism upon yourself.

My Response: It doesn’t matter. It will still all work.

Question: Why exactly is today the time for disclosure?

Answer: Because the world is becoming global, integral, interconnected. And it needs the right attitude of people to people. And this is exactly what Kabbalah is talking about: how to do it, how to come to goodness and mutual love.

Question: Is this a secret inner science?

Answer: There is nothing secret. What we have not revealed is called a mystery. Therefore, science is called a mystery because it creates reality out of any mysteries.

Question: And when it says that this is the inner part of the Torah, what does it mean?

Answer: That there is that Torah which is impossible to read with just eyes, you also need to open your heart.

Question: So the time for the opening of the heart is coming now?

Answer: Yes. Opening your eyes is not enough. We are approaching such a state that the world needs the opening of hearts.

Question: What do you think about this Quatrain?

Answer: It’s romance.

Question: Our viewers and readers write that they relate this verse to you. The beginning of the verse I can understand “But whilst our globe, sirs, seeks in vain the path of happiness to gain.” Well, it really seeks in vain. However, are you not offended when they say “Honor the madman”?

Answer: No, of course not. Would a sane person do what I do, go against nature? Really! Against the normal, healthy nature of egoism that is in each and every person, with which everyone agrees, and I try to direct them against themselves.

Question: Are you going against corporeal logic?

Answer: Against nature, not against logic. Logic is something abstract. We are talking about nature, the law of nature, which is in us, in our bones, it is simply instilled within us. And I say, “No, we have to go in a different way.” How can we go in a different way?

Comment: And then “Gay dreams, to please the human race.”

My Response: This, of course, is a dream, a fantasy, a fiction. This is certainly something very abstract and almost unbelievable, this thing we fantasize about, talk about, and dream about.

Question: Is the fact that we can connect into one organism, one humanity, one family, as Baal HaSulam writes like a “gay dream”?

Answer: Of course.

Question: Are you convinced that this will happen?

Answer: Without a doubt! This is initially inherent in nature, and only later was there a special egoistic counter made in it, which controls us. Practically all of nature within itself, except for this superficial egoistic addition, is absolutely altruistic. It cannot be different, because it is one, interconnected, and all its parts, organs, and systems work in absolute homeostasis, in absolute unity.

Question: When you say that, I absolutely agree with you. Why does a person agree when you speak?

Answer: Because it is logical: all nature is one, it acts with one force, according to one formula, for one movement forward.

Question: Then why when I go a few meters away or after a while I hear something else, I forget all this, it is erased from my memory?

Answer: You go back to yourself. When you go back to yourself, you forget what was said. This is not yet yours, does not yet live in you as a law within your individual system. Therefore, you go back to your system.

Question: How did this conviction grow in you?

Answer: It takes time. Only time. 20 to 30 years.

Comment: Can you give advice to the person who really wants to come to this connection?

My Response: Only through the group where everyone wants it and supports each other, because everyone supports themselves through the others.
