How To Cure The Plague Of Anti-Semitism In The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Jewish people have existed for 4000 years. They emerged from ancient Babylon thanks to Abraham who gathered around him chosen from all of the Babylonians. After that, this group underwent the Egyptian exile, the wandering in the wilderness, the events at Mount Sinai, and returned to the land of Israel and built the first and second Temples.

In the first two thousand years, from the exit of Babylon until the destruction of the second Temple, we lived as a spiritual people according to the laws of “Love your neighbor as yourself,” in mutual guarantee and in unity, like one big family. This is the form in which the people of Israel must live. Only in this form can it exist in security, and nobody can enslave it.

“Love for Israel” is not an abstract concept. Rather it indicates that each one loves his people and is linked with it. But the loss of this power of unity between us was symbolized by the destruction of the Temple. We fell from brotherly love to unfounded hatred towards each other, and so we were thrown out of this land into exile for 2,000 years.

In the last two thousand years we have not been a people. After all, the people of Israel are the same Babylonians who connected on the basis of the teachings of Abraham, meaning the law of brotherly love, unity, and connection. So today we are not a people. I very much hope that the latest war will finally force us to understand that only the return to “love of Israel,” that is, “Love your neighbor as yourself” will return us to the corrected state.

And without this, we cannot exist. Meanwhile our nation exists in such a form that is not appropriate for it, that we seemingly think is right. But this is only a temporary reprieve that was given to us from above for a particular time so that we would build ourselves as a people and return to brotherly love.

In the latest campaign, “Protective Edge” in August 2014, we saw that the people are beginning to understand it is necessary to unite and to be afraid of losing the unity that was attained at the end of the military operation.

This time a change is happening among the people. A unique inner impression has remained that specifically this unity is vital to us. So today I have hope that we will not let this spark that has been ignited in us to go out. The nation returns to daily life, each one to his personal problems. But even if this is so, we haven’t lost this yearning to unite that was born in us during the war. So we can approach the concept of the “people of Israel.”

If we begin to approach each other, then we will truly create a protective dome above us and attain the secure existence of the people of Israel in the land of Israel. Everything depends only on our connection between us. This is because we are a people created from a group that was gathered from representatives of all of the Babylonians on the basis of unification and love.

Specifically thanks to this message, they followed Abraham. So if today we can be, at least in some way, similar to that spiritual group that existed 4,000 years ago, we will merit a completely good, secure, and stable life in this land.

We feel that lately the whole world has begun to relate to Israel in a very hostile way : All nations without exception. This is simply a plague that has spread everywhere. It will stop only if the people of Israel will unite and show the whole world a new form of life, a new people, a new nation, that exists on the basis of the unification of all of its citizens, instead of existing for the sake of its ego with constant competition and hostility.

The world expects a good example from us and is not getting it. And so it blames the Jewish people for all of its problems. Blame directed towards Israel is acknowledgment of their dependence upon it. The nations of the world understand that their lives depend upon Israel that has not carried out its role, its mission. The world is waiting for the people of Israel to become an example of new relationships between people and the good life.

The War With A Faceless Enemy

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The recent war [in Israel] has left people with the feeling that we as if lost control of the situation and the ability to live a normal life in our country. We are used to the constant feeling of anxiety, uncertainty, waiting for sirens, and the inability to sleep at night.

The war seemingly ended, but we feel that we have not achieved peace, security, and the resolution of this conflict. An agreement has been signed, but no one believes in it. We have already witnessed seven ceasefire agreements that had were violated. Where is the guarantee that this will be observed?

External pressure is growing, and Israel finds itself in international isolation. This war has brought great damage to Israel’s economy and produced a wave of layoffs. There is a feeling of insecurity undermining our foundations: the army, the government. What is happening to us and what can we do in this situation?

Answer: I really empathize with this general feeling of fear, anxiety, frustration, bitterness, and helplessness, and at the same time I am filled with hope and confidence, which did not exist before.

It seems to me that this time our people finally feel all the instability of our position and will be able to wake up to the correct requirement of security and stability, which was not cared for and was even neglected before.

I remember the Six-Day War awakened such strong emotions  in me as if I were born again. I felt like a Jew, with my own country, which now correctly was correctly establishing itself, moving ahead and building itself in a new way. From that moment I began to make every effort to get out of the former Soviet Union and move to Israel. For seven years, from 1966 to 1974, I was refused and fought for the opportunity to repatriate.

There was a feeling that Israel was moving in the right direction. But when I came to Israel, I felt that the people were in some kind of euphoria after the Six-Day War. There was a feeling that we were stronger and did not care about the rest of the world. We were like a self-confident child who does not understand his own boundaries, his strengths, and duties.

This victory produced a negative effect on our people, filling them with so much pride that it went beyond the limits of necessary national pride. We lost a sense of moderation and went out of balance, neglecting all the boundaries, which we had to establish for ourselves. We had to educate our people and to organize the life within the country and outside it in the correct way. But instead of all this, there was just a feeling of disregard, pride and confidence in our heroism.

After the Yom Kippur War, it was not noticeable that the nation had received some correction. I think Golda Meir, who was the head of the government at that time, hoped that there would be a serious internal analysis made, a reconsideration of their attitude, and would reach some sort of equilibrium between the warring parties. But this did not happen. The people were as if deaf.

All the subsequent military operations left the same footprint—the Lebanon war, terrorist attacks, bombings in buses—it was an exhausting war with terrorists. The Gulf War was added to this, when we could do nothing with Saddam’s missiles that were launched at us. We had plenty of opportunities for internal analysis, but we did not use them.

Only now, in the last war, is the first time we have felt that we are against an enemy that cannot be defeated by conventional means. There is no one to sign a peace agreement with because it is not a state, but simply a gang of terrorists with whom nothing can be done.

It is possible to fight with a country, to go into battle, to come to some kind of result, then sign an agreement and leave it at that. We would have known that these agreements would be executed at least to some extent and would keep us in some framework.

But here there is no body with whom to sign an agreement. Of course, the agreements that we sign now are worth nothing. Once the terrorists have an opportunity, they will immediately attack us, not even recalling the paper on which their names are signed.

In addition, we do not sign an agreement with them because we do not recognize this right for Hamas. And they do not recognize our right for existence. The war against terrorists is a war with a faceless enemy. They can promise you anything today and tomorrow do whatever they want.

Therefore, we certainly will not achieve any peace agreements. The cease-fire can last for months or years or may end tomorrow. Everyone is aware of this: both us and them. We were under pressure from the United Nations, the United States, and Europe, but they understand that these agreements are worthless because they have the same problem with these terrorists.

Therefore, they want agreements signed with them at our expense that will allow Europe and America to exist peacefully. They throw Israel like a bone to the dog. We need to try not to turn into such a bone because we are dependent on Europe and the United States, so we are in a difficult situation.

But all these conditions awaken a lot of hope in me that the people of Israel will eventually begin to figure out what the solution is, what we depend on, what power can help us, and where it is. And then we will rebuild our lives in a new way.

The Perfect Society Of Abraham, Part 1

Dr. Michael LaitmanAncient Babylon receded into the depths of history, but it is still reflected in our time. Its entire course is a single process, linked from beginning to end and from end to beginning.

That is why when we see how history repeats itself, but on another level, we need to draw the right conclusions from what happened and is happening.

So, in Babylon, which was ruled by King Nimrod, Abraham’s group was formed, which challenged the “official” program of development with its own program. Nimrod said that the hatred and separation that flared up between the people must be overcome in a natural egoistic way: to settle in different places in order to have less contact with each other, in modern terms, to move out from shared to individual accommodations.

Abraham’s opinion was different: We cannot do that; we must connect. And now we have to pursue not division, but unity.

As a result, three million followed Nimrod, and only five thousand followed Abraham. This small group of distressed people, who were not satisfied with the people’s general concept, called itself “Israel” and left Babylon. “Accumulating” years, centuries, and millennia of suffering, it moved its own way up to the present day.

Question: Was the group “pushed out” of Babylon and forced to start its own movement?

Answer: I would not say that it was “pushed out.” Pressure began later, but not at the beginning.

In those days, Abraham was a great Babylonian priest and sage. The people who gathered around him realized that his method of correction, or the method of a new life, attracted them by its inner meaning, that it is not just egoistic “divorce,” separation, scattering to different places, but the movement inside. The corresponding message, the request of the soul, was awakened in them, and they were ready for it.

After all, humanity evolves not just technically; it changes form throughout history: slavery, feudalism, capitalism, socialism, etc. In other words, it changes its shape, it changes its content. The quantitative growth of egoism also acquires a new quality.

So, the followers of Abraham felt that they could not develop just egoistically; they needed to reach a completely different level, to “jump” to the next level. Thus they adhered to Abraham, who fulfilled their internal demand.

Beginning The Correction Of The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why do you insist on the dissemination of Kabbalah among Jews and involve your non-Jewish students in this work?

Answer (I answer on behalf of a non-Jew): Because through the dissemination of Kabbalah among the Jews (explaining to them their mission and the cause of anti-Semitism), we, the nations of the world, oblige the Jews to begin the correction of the world. Only the Jews can begin the correction of the world, meaning its unification, because only they are its broken parts (since the destruction of the Temple 2,000 years ago). But as soon as they begin the correction (unification) under our influence, we all join them and act together.

A Spiritual Stigma That Cannot Be Erased Or Concealed

Dr. Michael LaitmanEvery Jew in the world is a versatile, complex, and complicated creation, and in order to stabilize him correctly, a unique education for all of the people is required.

After thousands of years of exile, the people of Israel have forgotten who they are. This affects everyone, beginning from the most educated to the simplest people. No one truly understands what it is to be Israel. Who is Israel? What is the origin of the people of Israel? What happened to it in the course of history, and how did it form itself? What happened in the days of the destruction of the first and second Temples when the people of Israel were on a spiritual level? What is the spiritual height that we attained, and why do we belong to spirituality?

What is the Shevirah (shattering) through which we have gone? What was the destruction of the Temples? What is the exile that didn’t happen with any nation in the world and in any place? Why are the people of Israel considered to have been in exile until today? After all, two thousand years have passed since then! Why, after all of these years, didn’t our people assimilate and disappear among the other peoples?

Why do so many problems haunt us today?  Because we wanted to get lost among the other nations, but didn’t succeed? Why does anti-Semitism continue to flourish in enlightened times? It is somehow possible to explain this phenomenon in the Middle Ages, in barbaric times. But how, with all these high-tech developments, communications, education, and culture, have these absurd stereotypes about Jewish people continued?

We must realize that the people of Israel need an Israeli-Jewish education that explains to a person who he is. We never will succeed in being freed from the stigma of the people of Israel that proves that we belong to it even if we hide at the ends of the earth. It makes no difference where Jews are. They must know what is happening with the people of Israel.

As of today, nobody knows this! Even though we learn the history and geography of the Jewish people in schools, we don’t know anything about it. This is because the whole truth is found within the wisdom of Kabbalah to which the people of Israel are linked.

The people of Israel are a spiritual people that are subordinate to the spiritual law that the wisdom of Kabbalah investigates. So, we are linked to this wisdom, and we cannot flee from it. The Jewish people gathered around Abraham in accordance with the spiritual root that obligates us to unite, and, with the help of the unification among us, we attain the higher power.

Our people were founded once for this reason. So, the law, “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself” belongs directly to the people of Israel, and we must exist according to this law. We have no possibility of continuing to exist without knowing the truth about ourselves, and for this, we must attain our spiritual source, for its entire essence is specifically in that and not in physical sources like the rest of humanity.

The people of Israel are like aliens from another world. There are even anti-Semitic hypotheses that support this because the nations of the world feel that we are different from the others, and we are truly different, and we have come “from another planet.” We have fallen from heaven. The origin of our source is “from heaven,” from the spiritual world. This source is in us and we must discover it to know why things are happening this way, what its origin is, and why it pursues us all the time. We are on the surface of the Earth with a unique mission. So, it is impossible to get along without becoming aware of the wisdom of Kabbalah. It is our constitution, the system of connections between us, the mechanism, thanks to which we exist and function. In addition, without the wisdom of Kabbalah, we cannot understand what is happening to us.

So, it is not important to us who is against and who is wholeheartedly for Israel; who is for Zionism or against it. We won’t know what to do if we don’t realize our foundation, the connection between us, the final goal, the entire process of how to reach that goal, and what we are doing in this world if we don’t understand our destiny.

The Secret Program Of Kabbalists Comes To Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I’ve heard that today’s Kabbalists’ program is to prepare people for the revelation of the upper force. Could you please tell us about this program?

Answer: This program is not secret. If it belongs to the people and, ultimately, to the world, then, of course, there are no secrets. Kabbalists wrote about our time since the days of the prophets.

It is said that all the prophecies belong to the era of the Mashiach (Messiah – the end of correction), in which we find ourselves today. Baal HaSulam indicates this in the articles “Time to Act” and “A Speech for the Completion of The Zohar” and others.

This period began in the 16th century, with the Ari (Isaac Luria), called Mashiach Ben Yosef, who began the process of the final correction. Beginning with him and further, Kabbalah was more and more developed, through Baal Shem Tov and his disciples.

That is, we are in the process, which began not today, yesterday, but within the program, which has been realized for thousands of years, gradually moving towards its conclusion. Beginning in the 20th century, after Baal HaSulam wrote the article “The Last Generation,” after everything that was written by Rabbi Kook and Rabash, we can assume that we are on the home stretch.

The activities of the Kabbalists of all times and generations were focused on our time to ensure that we have already begun to implement the correction among the entire nation, in the masses. That’s what we are doing.

There is a clear indication that the time for this has come. The Jewish people have returned to the land of Israel. But for the time being, this nation does not correspond to the true definition of the people of Israel, and this land does not match the definition of the land of Israel; we still need to achieve this.

This is the place where we live “as if” the people of Israel in the land of Israel is under tremendous internal and external stress. We are divided into many currents within, confused, and do not know who we are and what our purpose is.

Our nation is divided into a huge number of factions, camps, opinions, and parties. Among us there are many people who hate this country, among the Arabs, and among the Jews themselves. Our situation is very precarious, and we have recently found ourselves in confrontation with the whole world. The entire world is against Israel. There are growing anti-Jewish sentiments and pressure on the Jews in all the countries.

Many Jews abroad also oppose the state of Israel. For example, behind the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, acting with anti-Semitic statements, there is a group of twenty Jews who support him and curse Israel even more than he does. The same phenomenon can be observed everywhere.

The Jews living abroad hope to secure a safe future in this way. But we already saw how this ended in Germany seventy years ago. The nations of the world do not like Israel and the Jews, regardless of whether there is a war in Gaza or not.

Therefore, we must explain to the people intensively and as soon as possible on what our good and secure future depends. If we talk in terms of the wisdom of Kabbalah, we can say that the only thing missing in the world is the revelation of the Creator, the general force, managing the entire universe, including our small world, humankind, and the people of Israel within it.

All this is in the power of one force, which is called the Creator (Bore), from the words “come and see” (bo-re), because we are able to reveal it. We reveal it due to the fact that we are getting closer to it. As we approach and reveal the upper force, we are counted worthy of an absolutely good state.

Equip Yourself With The Higher Power Of Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: A regular person doesn’t even suspect that there is some kind of higher power that is approaching us and summoning problems in our lives. In ancient times there were prophets who told the people about the actions of the Creator. But who will explain to people today what is happening with them?

Answer: The role of Kabbalists is to explain what is happening to everyone, and the main thing is to say that there is a remedy for correcting the unpleasant situation we find ourselves in. We have the possibility of transforming all the negative phenomena into positive ones, transforming darkness into Light.

Question: For this, what kind of change must happen in us?

Answer: All the changes are directed only towards connection. We don’t feel anything else. We need to overcome the rejection, the hatred of one towards another, our indifference, and to understand that only through connection between us do we bring the higher power closer to us in a good way. This force will be clothed in us and then we will merit the most wonderful life.

Everyone will need to study the method of connection and unification in order to understand what must be done and how. In this manner, we merit a wonderful life and remove all of the disasters, problems, diseases, wars, and anti-Semitism.

A powerful weapon like this is in our hands, but we haven’t even suspected this, and this is the whole problem. People must discover and know what this higher power is and how to use it through our connection. The war is not conducted with an external enemy, rather within the people of Israel.

In the meantime, mentioning the Creator, the higher power, frightens a person because he connects these concepts with religious stereotypes he is accustomed to. Nobody knows exactly what is standing behind these words, but each one has his concept, and it seems to him that he supposedly understands.

But essentially, the Creator is the collective power of nature. There are many forces we learn about in physics, chemistry, biology and zoology. These are the laws of all kinds of natural systems. But the collective power that includes all the rest of the forces within it, the general system that includes the other systems within it, this is called the “Creator.” This is everything!

The Creator is not some kind of mystical image but the collective power that holds within it the entire creation that was created by it. Therefore this is what is called.

Besides that, the Creator (Boreh) symbolizes “Bo Reh” (come and see). This means that we can “come,” advance in our correction, and “see.” We approach this higher power through connecting with each other, and in this manner we form the ability to feel the Creator within us.

The law of equivalence of form exists according to which we can only feel such a phenomenon we have common characteristics with. So how can we acquire common characteristics with the Creator in order to feel Him? We attain characteristics like these through our connection with others.

The Meteor Is Already Close
A Good Future Depends Upon Discovering The Upper Force
Keeping Up With The Schedule Of Creation

The Meteor Is Already Close

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If the upper force is good, why is it revealed in an unpleasant way, pressuring us?

Answer: The higher power pressures us from above in that it aspires to be discovered. Whereas, we are found below as separated, crushed, rejecting and hating each other. The pressure of the upper force from above increases our problems, because He wants to be discovered, but is not.

All of the problems pop up because of the approach of the Creator to us. If you are not adapted to Him, then His approach awakens negative reactions in you.

Question: I don’t understand how the approach of the Creator could be perceived as negative. It would seem that this would be the opposite; wouldn’t it be necessary to awaken some kind of positive results?

Answer: Imagine that you are a child. Your mother comes to you and asks: “Have you completed your homework?” And you haven’t prepared your lessons. So your mother threatens: “Watch out, I will come back in another hour to check if you have finished your homework!” As the hour passes you begin to be afraid of when she will come back because you still haven’t done anything.

How will her approach be felt in this case: good or bad? If you don’t comply with her demand, you feel her approach as unpleasant, you don’t want her to come to check you. Isn’t this so?

And now the same thing is happening with us. We are not carrying out those actions that we must carry out. We don’t want to become like one person with one heart, where all of Israel are friends, connected with mutual guarantee (Arvut). We are not becoming like those that we must be, and so the approach of the Creator awakens troubles, disasters, and wars within us and around us.

All of these are the result of the nearing of the Creator. The Holocaust was a result of His approach. That is how the approach of the upper force is revealed if we don’t adapt to it.

So we must prevent the blow through a remedy: Begin getting closer to each other, connect so that we approximate ourselves to the approach of the Creator. Then we will accept this approach as better and better, to the state in which the upper force will be completely clothed in us. There is no better state than this!

Question: Is the upper force like a meteor that is approaching our Earth?

Answer: The higher power is not approaching us with the speed of a meteor, which is 30 kilometers per second. This is a gradual process that began a long time ago. But essentially this “meteor” is already close, and its speed is increasing all the time. The inner and outer tension has grown.

After that a period of calm could come. But even if it comes, it will be for a very brief time. Periods of calm will become more and more compressed, whereas the tension will grow exponentially. This is because we are on the threshold of the general correction and the Creator is obliging us to carry out the correction, meaning to connect among us.

We must come to a state of “And you shall love your friend as yourself,” no matter how unrealistic this may seem to us. The higher power is prepared to force us into this through its pressure. But it is desirable to begin to study the wisdom of Kabbalah because from it, we discover how to attain this in ourselves before we are pressured from above with full force. We can reach this connection ourselves in a good way, without coercion.

The Good Example That The World Is Waiting For

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: During the war, unity, solidarity and a common fate were felt among the people of Israel. But what were we missing in order to truly unite the people; many people didn’t feel themselves as part of the general whole?

Answer: The Jewish people were assembled around Abraham our father, who called for love and connection from representatives of all the nations of the world. At that time, when we succeeded in connecting, uniting, and living according to the law of love, we began to be called the “people of Israel.”

But we then fell from this state and distanced ourselves from the principle of connection as one person with one heart. From the height of love, we fell into hatred. With this, we awakened hatred from the whole world towards us. And the sources of all the nations of the world, from which we emerged, were awakened in us when we came into the group of Abraham.

So it is not surprising that today we don’t want to be the people of Israel in the land of Israel, meaning connected according to the law of love. We hate ourselves, we don’t love our people, our nationality, our belonging to Judaism, and we want to be freed from it. This desire is present in everyone, openly or secretly.

In every Jew there are physical sources from the seventy nations of the world and there is also a spiritual source. Now we must awaken this spiritual source. It is possible to do this only through the wisdom of Kabbalah, which explains to us the entire system: from where we came, why we exist, how we must connect with each other, and how we receive that higher power which is one and will therefore make a single system from us.

We must provide an example to the world of how it is possible to live together with a collective love. The world expects this and is ready to learn from us. See how everyone feels that they depend upon us by blaming us for all the problems and troubles? So come, let’s present a good example to the world so that with it they will create peace and tranquility.

There is no preference for the people of Israel over the rest of the people. On the contrary, we must become the teachers and the Light to all the rest of the nations. And so everyone agrees with our enemies who are bombarding us with missiles. These are like the plagues in Egypt that are awakening us to depart from this state of exile.

From Instinctive Solidarity To Genuine Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What do we need to do in order to become a true nation of Israel? It seemed to me that I was seeing examples of mutual support and solidarity all around.

Answer: This is a solidarity that arises intuitively during a common danger, but it is not called mutual guarantee. In difficult times, we all are willing to help each other, flocking together instinctively.

This happens in any society, in any group, and even among animals because it provides psychological support, elevates the spirit, and gives a feeling of greater confidence and connection. However, it has nothing to do with “Love thy neighbor.”

Love for one’s neighbor is such a deep inner bond that it only can be achieved through a special connection between us, attainable through the wisdom of Kabbalah.

We receive an example of such feelings during special discussions in a circle, and in workshops, but this is not enough. We need to pass the basis of this method to everyone so that each person will understand where this feeling comes from, why it arises, and how to implement it.

Each of us must become a carrier of this method, because in it, lies one’s life and one’s soul. With it, one builds their eternal existence, their independence. This is why it is not enough simply to hear about it for a few minutes. Rather, one must understand what world we are living in and what system operates us. Through this, we can understand the forces of nature, change them, and use them for our own good.

Then, we can show an example to the entire world and call upon it to unite, “Look at the world that is opening before us! We can ascend to an eternal and absolute degree, instead of existing for a few decades on this earth and ending it at that. The gates to a new world are being flung open before us.”

This is what each of us subconsciously is awaiting and what the nations of the world want. However, the Jewish people hold the key, and we are obliged to open it up. It is ready for our use!

I very much hope that the pressure that we are feeling today, from the internal anti-Semitism that exists within us and the external pressure, would be enough to turn the attention of the entire nation to the inner teaching, in other words, to the wisdom of Kabbalah.

There are people with a book of instructions by which this nation must live. Without them, we are attempting to imitate the nations of the world, but it does not work. We need to structure ourselves in accordance with these instructions.

I hope that the suffering we are enduring today will be enough to draw our attention to this topic, because otherwise, problems will increase and continue to grow until they oblige us to become a true nation of Israel and a light for other nations in order to lead the entire world to correction, to the good connection.

Comment: We join you in your good hopes!
