The Ten—There I Find My Soul

laitman_962.8The Creator constantly hides the truth from me, showing me various scenes that make me forget about Him. Therefore, the Creator disappears and I see myself and this world, but each time I need to forcefully bring back my reality to the truth. Above everything that He does, I need to return everything to the corrected form and determine that every state, my own and the world’s, is organized by the Creator.

The Creator confuses me as though He did not do it all. I am obliged to return Him to the head of everything. The illusory world, the imaginary self, it is the  Creator who creates this illusion. What’s best for me is to determine that the Creator governs everything that happens. This is called good. I am happy to elevate Him as the King not because it gives me positive sensations, but because I succeed in making Him the ruler.

The truth is that the Creator governs over everything, and it is unimportant to me how I perceive it in my sensations as pleasant or unpleasant states.1

If a person wishes to know who he is, where he came from, and why he lives, the answers to all the essential questions, then that already is the beginning of the human degree. An animal does not ask why it is alive. There are also many people who don’t want to think about this since “the less you know, the better you sleep.”

A person wishes to succeed in this life: to learn, acquire a profession, and so on. However, if he must know why this life is given to us, what its purpose is, why the human being is created, he will be unable to find the answer in this life, no matter how much he searches. He can turn to biologists, zoologists, physicists, and no one will be able to answer him.

Scientists know how matter works. Yet, why the matter exists is unknown to them because the answer is above, on the next degree above the matter, in what preceded its creation. If I am bothered by that question, then I must solve it because it is ruining my life. Why should I study this life if I do not understand what it is for?

Finally I realize the need to develop myself to a new level of perceiving reality. If I could penetrate into the depth of reality, I would reveal its cause or root. Then, I find the wisdom of Kabbalah. It is clear that it is the Creator behind the scenes who leads me, reveals Himself, hinting which way to go.2

After one makes such an effort, the Creator is revealed. There are strict laws here: as soon as the extent of effort in terms of quantity and quality is reached, we reveal the higher root according to how much we invested. The more effort, the greater the revelation. From the side of the upper, there is no concealment; the concealment comes from our insufficient effort.3

If the upper providence was revealed, all the inhabitants of this world would automatically become completely righteous. The effort is the pledge whereby one does not act automatically and truly becomes equal to the Creator, not thinking about himself but only about bestowal.

This new Kli exists in the ten, in the ten Sefirot. Then we understand that we have no other opportunity to turn to the Creator, come closer to Him, think of Him, and direct our efforts toward Him. We need to reformat ourselves, adjusting to the Creator so that we connect and establish contact. That is possible only by forcefully inserting ourselves into the ten and through it reach equivalence with the Creator.

That is, all our effort should be for inclusion in the group with no reserves. By inserting ourselves in the ten, we find that the whole world exists there, billions of people, the whole universe, and the spiritual worlds. Our world is a tiny grain of sand compared to what exists in the ten. There we find our soul.4

Modern Model Of God

laitman_294.1Question: Scientists wonder how an absolute God, whose spatial dimensions are equal to absolute zero, could create and govern such a grandiose world?

They give an example: If we imagine that the speed of a car traveling around a block, say at ten kilometers is increased to infinity, then ultimately, we will not see this car.

Answer: It will always be located at all points, literally spread over the entire volume. As Einstein says: mass will approach infinity.

Question: What is God, where is He? How does He rule the world, being in such a completely incomprehensible state?

Answer: Frankly? There is no God.

God is the power that holds all the higher and the lower matter. This common force of the universe is called the Creator. Only with respect to us, can we explore and perceive it as a Creator, but nothing else. Above this we cannot comprehend, He no longer applies to us. What He has besides us and how He can be called there, we know nothing of that. We only know about us and call Him “our Maker,” “the Creator.”

It is only a thought, a design. This thought is the power of creation, it has created everything, including us. We are in this thought, in this plan, which is called the plan of creation.

We are its parts that exist within it and perform all actions (thinking, not thinking, not even understanding what and how), everything that this idea dictates to us, how it realizes itself in us… That is the way we act.

This thought is absolutely everywhere. It is all that exists. Besides it, everything else only seems as if it exists because we do not grasp it, this thought, this intention. If we grasped it, then, firstly, there would be nothing more to ask, we would understand that there is none else besides Him.

Question: The Creator controls the power of what and how does He rule?

Answer: The Creator is the universal force, which in particular, controls everything: rules, controls, and programs! He also creates all actions in us, and He receives all reactions from us. He is absolutely everything!

We are given only a single opportunity: to think about how we can comprehend Him. Everything else is done by Him, and this quality of ours, to attain Him, is free from Him, so that we do it in an absolutely freewill.

Question: How can a person learn to read the thoughts of the Creator, this global thought that you are talking about?

Answer: In order to read His thoughts, understand Him, and feel Him, one must rise to the level of the Creator, one must acquire His qualities.

Question: How can you do it?

Answer: This is already technology: How can I make myself a creation that will be able to understand the Creator, feel Him, and interact with Him? In order to do so, I need to change myself, to determine exactly what qualities in me are opposed to Him, unlike Him, and how I can change them so that they are similar to Him.

Question: What is the list of the Creator’s qualities so that it can be compared?

Answer: There is no need for a large list. There is only one quality. His quality is absolute love, and my quality is absolute hatred. So, in order to reach the Creator, I need to change my quality of absolute hatred into absolute love.

Question: How does one agree that the quality of a person is absolute hatred? One considers himself quite decent.

Answer: This is the period of re-education, which is called the revelation of evil of its own egoistic nature.

Question: And how can he go from the point of understanding himself to the point of the Creator?

Answer: To the extent that I comprehend myself as an absolutely egoistic quality—a quality that cares and thinks only about itself and enjoys how much it is higher than others or how it can humiliate others—to this extent, based on the opposite properties, I can imagine what it means to be the Creator or in the place of the Creator, and I have to move myself toward it.

Question: Is there some key point here?

Answer: The key point is the awakening of questions in a person about the meaning of life, the meaning of existence, its worthlessness, etc. In this case, you can already talk about changing your attitude toward the world, toward life, toward yourself, and toward the Creator.

New Life 184 – The Flood As Nature’s Balancing Act
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

Nature is an integral system of laws that strive for balance. The development of egoism has alienated man from nature. We have an exploitative attitude to everything. When we take for our own good, we do evil to others. When the imbalance toward life accumulates to a critical threshold, the flood comes to return balance. The world becomes round and linked, but human society becomes increasingly imbalanced. Humans must develop a balanced mind and heart in order to evolve beyond the animate level of life. We must use emotion to transcend our egos, correct the relationships between us, and blossom into one, complete family in which there is abundance for all.

Purim—On The Calendar And In The Heart

Laitman_633.3The symbols of the holiday of Purim are concealment, the custom of dressing up into party costumes, and wearing masks. Where does this custom of wearing masks on Purim come from? The main character of Purim is Queen Esther, meaning the kingdom (Malchut), the system that controls the entire universe. This kingdom is called “Esther,” meaning concealment.

In fact, in our time, we see that everything is in concealment. We do not know who controls us, we are unaware that there is a program in nature controlling our lives. We are in a field where some upper force, manifested in the form of many different forces, in the form of vast network controlling the entire world, rules.

Science is only now starting to gradually discover that everything in nature is interconnected and that the world is a closed, integral system with global connections. We see only a small part of reality. Also, we are not talking about some unknown dark energy in the universe, but about a reality that is completely hidden from us that we cannot even imagine. Our entire world is a complete concealment.

The inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature is controlled by instincts, and it thus asks no questions. Yet, a person must understand what he is living for. If he does not find an answer to this question, he feels very limited, disappointed in life, and does not know what to do with himself. His animal body continues its normal life, gives birth to offspring, but a person feels miserable.

A person feels that there is a certain concealment, a system, Malchut, that controls us in a concealed way, as if the great Queen Esther. Esther does not appear as a woman, but as an entire kingdom that controls us so that we do not understand where we are going and what we are doing.

The people of Israel faced the state of Purim many times over the course of history, that is, they were under threat of destruction. This threat comes in order to awaken us, to remind us of our role so that we do not continue living like all the other 127 nations that Megillat Esther talks about.

We must reveal Esther, we must bring this concealment to revelation. All other nations with whom we live act in order to awaken us to this mission. It is impossible to awaken the people, their egoistic desire, through good, and make them think about spiritual life. Jews try to forget about their mission. They delve into corporeal values, striving for achievements in science, culture, and especially for money and power.

In order to awaken us, King Ahasuerus and his helper Haman appear. In fact, they do not understand what they are doing because there is another King above Ahasuerus who is completely concealed, but He determines everything in order to bring humanity to the attainment of the Creator. This is only possible through the Jews, because there is a secret hidden in them, the spiritual gene that allows them to do this.1

Haman is the egoistic desire that cannot be corrected but can only be destroyed. Haman and his ten sons are the evil system unsuitable for correction, which opposes the governance of the upper force, the desire to bestow and loving another as thyself. Haman cannot agree with that; therefore, we must kill this kind of inclination inside of us.2

The great egoistic desire, Haman, makes preparations to kill everybody, both Mordecai and King Ahasuerus, in order to rule the entire kingdom by himself. This enormous egoism cannot enter into any cooperation with other forces but seeks full control over everybody. Therefore, in our time, Haman is revealed everywhere: in religions, beliefs, and also in governments if they declare that they alone should rule the world.

But Megillat Esther tells us that by the order of the king, Haman gets hanged on the tree that was prepared for the Mordecai’s execution, and the city of Shushan celebrates its freedom. Thus, we come to the fact that there is no more evil in the world because we destroyed and cancelled it.

In essence, Megillat Esther tells us how humanity reveals all the evil in the world and understands that it is necessary to destroy human egoism, the desire to receive for one’s own sake. Thus, we come to the absolutely good state, to the end of correction, when there is no evil left in the world. The holiday of Purim is dedicated to this, we rejoice and drink to the state when “…he does not know the cursed Haman from the blessed Mordecai” because there is no more Haman in the world and there is no need to be afraid of egoism.3

The evil Haman is hiding within every person and within all nations because it is the egoistic desire to control others. If we can get out of this evil, move away from it, then we will get closer to the revelation of good, to the upper system that controls us. Without evil, it is impossible to reveal good or even come close to it. Evil exists precisely in order for us to feel the need for good, to guide us to goodness.

We need to reveal the evil of egoism in every person, in every country, in the world, and, as wisely as Mordecai, Esther, and Ahasuerus acted against Haman, ensure that this evil force disappears from the world. This is what we need to learn from Megillat Esther and I hope that we will achieve it.4

Agree That Everything Comes From Above

laitman_604.04Subjugation means to agree with everything that comes from above and constantly to try to identify that there is no one else besides the Creator. We will then see that the Creator is good and does good; this is already the next stage. We need two corrections in order to proceed to the stage of a spiritual embryo.

The basis of all internal work is in the ten: in its construction and sensation and in the connection of the friends in the ten. We do not work with the Creator individually, personally. It would be an even greater and more serious mistake than remaining disconnected from the Creator if I were to use the ten in an egoistic manner without thinking about its connection and hoping to establish  connection with the Creator by bypassing it.

However, if I understand that my connection with the Creator and His connection with me passes only through the ten, then we connect into one whole; me, the ten, and the upper force are like Israel, the Torah, and the Creator, which are one.1

To be in Lo Lishma, from which we come to Lishma, means that at any place, in any state, and in everything that you think, see, and feel, you try to locate the Creator as a source of everything that is happening. This is also called Lo Lishma because it gives a person a good feeling, comfort, and joy from the fact that he depends on the Creator and not on enemies, haters, or blind chance.

Everything that comes to a person from the inanimate, vegetative, and animate nature and from people is an influence of the Creator and no one else. Therefore, a person is happy that he is under the correct governance that seeks to bring him to final correction. He constantly holds onto the Creator like a baby clinging to his mother.

To the extent that he is able, at every moment, not to let go of the Creator as the cause of everything that happens, he feels good. This state is called “Lo Lishma” because there is still one’s own interest in it—it helps a person feel good.

Yet, if a person wants to be connected with the Creator without any personal benefit, regardless of his pleasant or unpleasant feelings, then he wants to move to the state of Lishma. In this state, he raises the greatness of the Creator so much that he stops thinking about himself at all. It does not matter to Him how he feels, the main thing is to decide that the Creator is the source of all reality and by this to bring Him contentment, without any regard for himself. This means from Lo Lishma to come to Lishma.2

What Can You Hold Onto On The Path?

Laitman_120Baal HaSulam, Shamati, article 187, “Choosing Labor”: A trial means that a person cannot decide either way, and it is when one cannot determine the Creator’s will and the will of his teacher.

Although one can work devotedly, one is unable to determine to what extent this devoted work is appropriate or not, that this hard work would be against his teacher’s view, and the view of the Creator.

Question: Is it possible to somehow see that I am working correctly?

Answer: No, because that would be your egoistic reward. If you really are engaged in bestowal, then it is absolutely unimportant for you what consequences your actions have. You just want to know whether you do them correctly.

There is nothing you can do about it. This is a serious system. If you want to be in bestowal, you must rise above yourself and exit yourself. You are given such an opportunity. If not, stay as is.

You can simply learn Kabbalah. This is a source of knowledge, it is a method that explains history, geography, and the interaction of people in the world, the present, and even the future.

I would like all people in the world to acquire the set of knowledge that can be learned from Kabbalah even without engaging in spiritual improvement, but simply studying it like any other science.

Question: A person does not have evidence that he is advancing correctly. Then what should he hold onto?

Answer: Onto nothing. Onto the air, onto the Creator.

Only in a group, when you connect with the friends, work for them, and they for you, you receive what is called Arvut (mutual guarantee), and you can hold onto it.

New Life 183 – Law And Justice
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

Education and culture are designed to bring us to balance with the laws of nature, to the safest and most comfortable state. Every person has to be a judge for himself, clarifying and correcting himself. The Jewish legal system used to operate according to one law: the law of nature or God. Integral laws aim to bring balance between the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking levels of reality. Judges must have emerged from themselves and know the rules of the integral system so they can direct others towards balance. We need an integral, social-educational system that teaches others how to criticize and correct themselves in order to build peace and truth in society.
