A Kabbalistic Book Opens The Upper World

Dr. Michael LaitmanKabbalah is a very important science, which includes all of the other sciences. It explains to a person how to act after we complete our development in this world.

Today we find ourselves in this exact situation, having exhausted our egoistic development that has resulted in a dead end. Therefore, the science of Kabbalah is being revealed so it can help us revive, start a new life, and move to the next level of existence.

All of the achievements of our world cannot help us in this because they act only within this earthly plane. A different science is required in order to rise to the next level and continue this life.

Kabbalah is the science that does not belong in our world. It is designed to put all of humanity in an elevator that takes us to the next floor, where we start a new development. The next floor is not where matter develops and it is no longer part of our world. This is the real development of the feelings and the mind, which relate to our inner feelings and not to the physical body.

This is a kind of development where we gradually lose the sense of our body and begin to exist in another dimension where there are no bodies. We do not feel them because they disappear from our perception. We no longer need physical bodies because we act in inside our feelings and mind without the involvement of this crude matter of the body.

This approach seems incomprehensible to an ordinary person, even though our imaginations are rather developed thanks to Hollywood and science fiction novels. All this did not appear by accident, but in order to prepare us for the wisdom of Kabbalah and to be able to understand its wisdom.

Therefore, Kabbalists kept Kabbalah a secret for as long as mankind needed for all generations to be ready for it. Kabbalah was revealed 5,775 years ago for the first time by Adam, the first Kabbalist.

All the thousands of years from that time until our generation, Kabbalists kept the wisdom of Kabbalah a secret only within their inner circle and did not widely disclose their knowledge of it. This was similar to my parents not wanting me to read their medical books as a child because they were too advanced for my age.

Kabbalists are the scientists that study this science, attain what it says, and  learn how to use it, while at the same time looking for people in their environment suitable for such study. And if there was such a person, they quietly tested him, talked to him about life in a philosophical kind of way in order to find out whether he was ready and interested in such things. If they saw a man inwardly mature and attracted to the topic, then they started to teach him.

So the wisdom of Kabbalah was passed down from generation to generation. The Kabbalists also wrote books in secret. And even if they did not hide the books, the Kabbalistic text was encrypted in such a way that a person could not understand it if one did not have the proper code, that is, if a person does not know how to relate to the book, what it talks about, how it associates with a person, and the true meaning when this world and the next world are mentioned.

Kabbalistic books are written in the language of branches pointing towards the spiritual roots, but a person thinks that it talks about this world. But, this is not about the plane of this world and a person within it. We are talking about higher powers, not material things.

If the Kabbalists would not have given us the key to the correct reading and understanding of this science, even by opening the book, a person would still not understand what they read. A person would have thought that Kabbalah talks about animals and plants. Some words that have been used are “intercourse, hug, kiss, a female and a male force, and childbirth.” One may think that this is some kind of sensuality.

Then the book speaks of heaven and earth, spirits, demons, angels, and different spiritual forces. Ignorant people who come across these books would build a whole mystical theory around this. I have heard such stories about Kabbalah and I wondered how this particular man could fantasize so much. But these people seriously believe what they say about Kabbalah, using different names from The Book of Zohar.

If a person does not receive knowledge from a decent Kabbalah teacher who gives one all of the keys to this science, one will not be able to correctly open and understand the book. This will only confuse a person. “To open the book,” means to be connected to what is written within it. To each person, the book should be an open world, the upper world.

The Right To Change One’s Destiny

laitman_259_01Question: When a person hears about Kabbalah, he is mostly surprised by the fact that it gives him the opportunity to change his own destiny. Every one of us wants to avoid the vicissitudes of life, misery, problems with making a living, with health and family, in all the areas of our lives. Is Kabbalah so powerful that it allows a person to control his own destiny and change it?

Answer: I am glad that more and more people ask about how it is possible to change one’s destiny, about whether there is such a possibility, whether it is real. This raises several questions:

  • Are we in the hands of chance, in the hands of blind fate or is this destiny pre-planned and designed to lead us to a goal?
  • Do we have the ability to influence this fate? After all, we feel that we are completely at its mercy.

There are even people who can predict the future. I was personally acquainted with some of these people and I can confirm that they have made correct predictions, which were later fulfilled. They had a premonition of what would happen in a few years.

That is, all events are already recorded in a certain program above us. And then it goes down like running a computer program. We are in this program and are moving according to it.

Fate actually exists, and today we are more convinced that we are in its hands. Once we did not know the laws of nature, the forces acting in it, and we were not able to deal with the problems and diseases. We lived in isolation from each other: country from country, continent from continent, and therefore did not feel that we are not in control over our lives.

Today the situation is different: Humanity has enough power, knowledge, intelligence, capabilities, desires, and inner need to manage its life. But we see that we are not capable of it. It’s just a miracle that we are doing everything to improve our lives, and it does not work; it only gets worse and worse.

Previously, it was not so, but nowadays we discover our complete powerlessness and inability to somehow control our own destiny. And here the question arises: Is it possible to influence destiny?

In every generation, there are visionaries who can reveal the future and tell what will happen. But it is one thing to predict fate, and another thing to change it. No one is capable of this. If someone promises you this, you need to be very careful.

Question: It turns out that fate is like the finished script of a play, which is then only performed. And there are people who are able to predict fate, but none of them can change it. Does Kabbalah allow one to see one’s destiny and most importantly to change it?

Answer: Kabbalah is the science that, first of all, is intended to reveal the program of creation to us, that is, the process that we are going through. This process controls us, leading to some goal, from generation to generation. It started with the beginning of creation, that is, before the emergence of our universe, and will bring us to the end of creation, when the whole world passes into its next form, different from today’s.

The wisdom of Kabbalah talks only about part of the overall program. The program itself is much broader and encompasses other dimensions, beyond time, motion, and space. But the wisdom of Kabbalah says what we need to do here, while we exist in so-called “this world”: how we can change our destiny in this life. It allows us to change our states every moment so that everyone is better, we ourselves, our children, and grandchildren.

Kabbalah is a very practical science and is intended for practical use.

Kabbalah says that there is destiny and all that is written in it must happen. But we can change the nature of the passage of these states. Suppose I am a child whose parents sent to first grade, and I have no choice; I now have to study at this school for ten years, until I graduate from it.

But it depends on me how these ten years will pass for me: lovely and pleasantly or terribly and painfully, whether I will feel good or bad, whether I will get punishment or awards. This is called to change one’s destiny.

Question: It turns out that the script has been already written, and according to it, I should be in school. But it depends on me how I will feel in this predetermined situation?

Answer: It depends on me how this program will act on me, according to how much I will study and use it.

Kabbalah For “General Use”

laitman_254_03Question: How is it possible to discover and know that a person is ready to study the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: How do we determine that a child is allowed to read a particular book? The parents are on one level above the child and so they understand that it is possible to give him a book appropriate for his age. And in another few years he will grow to such a level that he can read even more serious books.

The same thing happens with the wisdom of Kabbalah as well. It is possible to see according to the present generation and according to what is happening in the world that the world is ready for the discovery of the wisdom of Kabbalah. The term “Kabbalah” also means “transmission” because it was transmitted from generation to generation until it reached us.

The last great Kabbalist in this chain was Baal HaSulam who opened the wisdom of Kabbalah for general use. And he writes in his books that from this time on it is possible to reveal the wisdom of Kabbalah to everyone. As it is said, “…and all nations shall flow unto it” (Isaiah 2:2).

I accepted this mission from the oldest son of Baal HaSulam, Rabbi Baruch Shalom Ashlag, and so I must carry it out. I no longer have a choice and I cannot decide if it is worthwhile to do this or not, or whom to reveal the wisdom of Kabbalah to and whom not to. If this mission was given to me to transmit this knowledge of the wisdom of Kabbalah to everyone, I must reveal it to the whole world as much as it is in my power.

In the kind of situation that we are in today, a great deal of multifaceted work is waiting for us. First of all, it is necessary to “clean” the wisdom of Kabbalah of all the false labels and opinions, to detach and separate it completely from all kinds of “pseudo Kabbalah.” Tarot cards, ceremonial dances, meditations according to a book, stones, writings, red strings, holy water, and so forth.

Second, we must explain that the wisdom of Kabbalah is intended for the correction of a person, and the correction is in his connection with others. Only through the right connection between us can we carry out the conditions for the discovery of the spiritual force, the Upper Light, among us.

When we discover this higher force among us, it will begin to work within us by raising us to another level of existence. The Light that fills us will elevate us to a sensation of a new reality.

And meanwhile the image of this world will gradually disappear. First, it will simply lose its importance; in this way it will vacate a place for the image of a higher world that reflects the connections between the inner forces that manage all of creation.

And with time humanity will advance and begin to work with these forces. And then we will gradually stop feeling this world; it will be as if it evaporates; it will disappear from our feelings. After all, this world is imaginary and exists only in our five senses. We are already beginning to exist only in the spiritual world.

We need to reach a situation like this, and there is even a marker for the inevitable end of this process: 6,000 years from the first spiritual discovery of Adam to the end of all the corrections. With the “completion of correction” all of humanity, with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah, will have to connect as one person with one heart. And then all of us will be found on a higher level only.

But all of the confusion that accompanied the wisdom of Kabbalah for so many years was necessary. For without this, the child cannot grow. Complication, confusion, this is a part of our development.

Question: So essentially what is the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah is the discovery of a system of forces within which the one upper force, called the “Creator,” operates, which is equivalent to the higher nature, that includes within it all of our forms of existence. And the discovery of this higher nature, the Creator, happens through attaining equivalence with Him. To discover this higher nature, to connect with it, and to identify yourself with it, this is the goal of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

We hope that we will soon attain this. This raises a person to the level of the Creator. But if we don’t go in this good way, then other forces will appear in nature, which will push us towards this by way of a crisis, and they will nevertheless obligate us to reach this.

The Maccabees And The Greek Ideology, Part 2

laitman_276_02We should understand that the Jews didn’t enjoy the Greek culture, as contemporary authors try to portray. They simply don’t understand the inner essence of the Jewish people and what it meant to be a Jew in the land of Israel, the people of Israel in the country of Israel in those days.

The Greek and the Jewish ideologies are two basically opposite perspectives. All the other ideologies, such as the Greek ideology or other ideologies stemmed from man, who is a corporeal creature, an animal, an egoist. A person can only come up with an ideology that is aimed at his own corporeal, physical benefit.

The ancient Greeks, by the way, loved athletics and sports. They built stadiums, held Olympic games, and on the whole were inclined to hedonism. Basically anything that helps a person advance towards the goal of creation is good, but if I simply enjoy strength, agility, and stamina as long as the body is alive, I live for it.

This is also true with regard to other philosophical, esthetic concepts. They are all corporeal and they all stem from the five senses of our body and do not exceed their narrow perception.

The problem is that this limitation is evasive and cannot be noticed unless a person ascends above his five senses and says goodbye to his body and rises to a higher level, not after his death but rather here in this life.

The idea is to perceive reality above the five corporeal senses that are a desire to understand, to know, and to feel what is around us. All of a person’s senses perceive everything in an egoistic manner, internally, according to the principle of absorbing into one’s self. In such a state they cannot perceive more that what is dictated to them by the limitation of time, motion, and place as well as by the tolerance of each sense organ.

It is on the basis of this perception that the Greeks established their science and the realm of myths, which includes earthly fairytales regarding the relationships between their gods. This is how they imagined the laws of nature, in the form of an Olympic pantheon where the gods flirt with one another, get married, get divorced, live in peace or quarrel…

This is a very primitive picture, which of course is totally wrong. Therefore only children’s books remain of it for the next generations and I don’t recommend them because they establish a wrong conception of nature in a person.

Consequently only the basics of nature and scientific terminology are left of all of the ancient Greek culture.

As for the traditional Jewish perspective, it is actually inclined outward. In its framework we don’t need to absorb data from nature and to process it by our feelings and our mind, no. We need to exit ourselves and be incorporated in others outside ourselves. Thus we improve our tools of perception and make them unlimited and infinite.

After all, I exit myself, leaving my body, not wanting to remain in it. It only limits me and doesn’t allow me to understand things the way they really are. I cannot even really feel anything since I am imprisoned in the narrow limits of my senses.

What is more, when I perceive information through my five senses I process it by calculating my personal gain. It is inevitable because this is how my body operates due to its egoistic force. Therefore, out of the whole world that surrounds me, no matter what it may be, I only perceive what can enter my five egoistic senses, which is surely in my benefit or may bring me harm in the limits of a certain sense.

We don’t distinguish all the other phenomena around us. At the same time we can use instruments that do expand our boundaries a little, but we also perceive this information through the prism of our personal gain.

It turns out that if I want to be a real researcher I have to be independent of everything. Is that possible? After all, I was born an egoist, and by definition I only see what is good or bad for me, what is pleasant or unpleasant, beneficial or harmful.

I filter the flow of external data automatically and subconsciously, isolating only what my ego regards as worthwhile and ignore everything else. This is the reason that we all see the world and assess it differently.

At the same time, there is a different perception that is opposite from the natural Greek perception. According to that perception, I have to transcend what happens to me here on this planet, exit my ego, and ascend above myself with my self, if I want to be a true, independent, objective scientist, which cannot be found in the ordinary format of this world.

There is a method, which by a series of exercises and with the help of the environment and the friends, allows an ordinary person to perform such changes in him: to expand his natural perception and add a super natural perception to it, which means a perception that operates beyond a person’s natural ego.

Thus I can develop additional senses inside me that are not based on absorption internally but on bestowal, when I am ready to give, to love, to bestow, and am ready to be above myself. Love and bestowal are opposite from the perception of receiving, self-enjoyment, and hatred.

It is by such an approach that I begin to notice the reality that is beyond my egoistic vessels of perception. These vessels perceive merely two miserable percent of the whole spectrum and also distort the picture by presenting it to me in the form of this world to me.

Even physicists today say that they have reached a certain limit and that they cannot transcend it. Although there is undoubtedly something beyond that, they don’t know how to touch what is hidden on the other side…

The First Generation Of A Mature Humanity

Dr. Michael LaitmanKabbalah books are written in the language of branches, which means in terms of this world and how it relates to its spiritual roots. Therefore they are full of words and stories that may bring a layman to imagine different fairy tales. Many nations have used certain information from the wisdom of Kabbalah and based whole philosophies and sciences on it.

Even today, there are people who believe that they know what the wisdom of Kabbalah is about based solely on movies they have seen or books they have read about it. But, in fact, this confuses a person even more.

Not long ago for example, there was a documentary series about Kabbalah on TV [in Israel]. The only thing that was clear after watching this series is that people have no idea what Kabbalah actually is. Apparently it has nothing to do with women’s dancing, dieting, ritual clothing, cards etc. as was presented in that series. People use the name “Kabbalah” to refer to things that have nothing to do with Kabbalah at all.

Thus there is much confusion today as to what the wisdom of Kabbalah is. Our generation is the first generation that has been allowed to be exposed to the books of Kabbalah so that everyone can be taught from them.

No longer does a Kabbalist have to look for a student in order to convey all the information to him so that he will pass it on to others. Today you can go out to the streets, invite everyone to study the wisdom of Kabbalah in order to pass on this information to anyone who wishes to learn it and also pass it on. Our whole generation has grown to a state in which it can use the wisdom of Kabbalah correctly in order to ascend to the next level, to the upper world.

What Is The Light?

laitman_567_04Question: What is the Light that the wisdom of Kabbalah talks about?

Answer: The Light is phenomena in which the will to receive senses the upper force, spirituality, the Creator, the force that directs and governs the desire to receive.

The Light is the only power that actually exists. The other force is the desire to receive. There is nothing but these two powers. In other words, a desire to receive is something that is “locked” from within, whereas the Light is open and fills the entire universe.

Inside the desire, there is a tiny spark of the Light with the help of which the desire can connect with the external Light, thus directing the Light’s actions performed on the desire. An aspiration of the will to receive to be similar with the Light allows it to establish connection with the Light, thus triggering the Light’s impact upon it.

Question: Then what is the connection between the books written by Kabbalists and the Light?

Answer: All Kabbalistic books are the stories about the impact of the Light on the desire. There is nothing else besides it. The Light is the Creator, i.e., the force that rules everything. If one wants to approach the Light, one should learn how to build correct intentions on top of one’s desires so that the Light descends and conveys its properties to it, thus making one similar to the Light. In this case, one’s actions become similar to the Light even though one’s desires are opposite to it.

The entire wisdom of Kabbalah is the revelation of the Light to the creation.

The Receiver Of The Imperceptible Wave Range

laitman_934Question: Can the method of Kabbalah become public if the majority perceives the development of additional sense organs as mysticism?

Answer: People are accustomed to everything that is beyond this life being related to mysticism, unnatural forces. But in this case it is not so. The wisdom of Kabbalah is organized very simply, and this method originated from Abraham.

Students gather around the teacher, and he organizes them in a group. They begin to work in it as if in a laboratory, creating an environment in which it is possible to reveal the upper force. And when they reveal this upper force in connection with each other, they begin to study it, to develop due to it and develop it.

That is, they operate from two directions. They have the desire to receive, and they reveal the desire to bestow. Thus, they can influence this force of bestowal, draw it, grow it, and study how it affects them. They begin a mutual, practical work with the upper force, the Creator, as with any other force of nature that is revealed to us.

The only question is how to quickly build the laboratory in which we will reveal the upper force, will research, learn, and be able to perform mutual work with it, as partners. We will affect it, and it will affect us, that is, the whole group. After all, one person is not able to create the property of bestowal out of himself.

Only in mutual connection in the group, for example, between ten people, can we create the force of mutual bestowal, which will be similar to the hidden upper force. Then this upper force will be revealed to us according to the law of equivalence of form.

In this way we catch a wave in a radio set, tuning it internally, respectively to this wave. And then according to the law of equivalence of form, with the help of the internal wave, we catch the external wave. By the same principle, we reveal the upper force in the group, creating a small property of bestowal between ourselves to the extent of our abilities.

Suddenly, we seemingly catch the external radio wave in this property of bestowal created between us: we feel some conversation, external, higher impact. So, we have caught Him! In this way we grasp the Creator.

This is a very real feeling. If we arrange our group in this way, we will certainly reveal the Creator; there is no mystery. The same laws, as in physics, act here.

Rabash writes in his article “By Your Actions, We Know You” “The whole earth is full of the glory of the Creator, and there is no place free from Him.” The upper force fills all creation, the desire to enjoy created by this force, and manages it. “But we do not feel it only because we lack the necessary sense organs.”

“In this way, a receiver does not talk itself, but picks up voices that sound in the world. But before the receiver was invented, we did not hear these voices, although they already existed in reality.

“We can understand from this example that there is no place free from the Creator, and we need just a receiver. And the receiver that catches the upper force is based on adhesion to it in the equivalence of form, that is, on the desire to bestow.

“As soon as we have such a receiver, we will immediately feel that there is no such area, where the Creator is not present, and the whole earth is full of His glory.”

We are in the group like scientists in a laboratory, who only need to generate the force of mutual bestowal between themselves in order to be turned into a receiver. Then, inside the receiver, we will reveal the spiritual wave, the Creator.

It is revealed only in the connection between us. And all the preliminary preparation, our development through the still, vegetative, and animate nature up to the human was needed in order to form in us the desire to find this wave.

Therefore, we must look for how we can be connected according to the advice of Kabbalists. But all this is very far from mysticism. Only a completely ignorant person can relate Kabbalah with mysticism since according to the definition of Kabbalah, it is the revelation of the Creator by the created being in this world.

The Upper Sphere Of Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the Creator according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the upper force ?

Answer: The Creator is the highest nature. Nature has many levels, and the uppermost level includes everything that we are able to discover with the help of all the sciences and the science of Kabbalah, which reveals the mechanism of force of bestowal. All this together is called the Creator.

Indeed, all this is under the control of the properties of Bina, the force of general bestowal, which is called Elokim, the Creator. What else exists besides this is not known to us. The wisdom of Kabbalah gives a clear answer to this, as in any science: we do not know what is above the force of bestowal and are not able to reveal this.

Maybe it is only a temporary restriction. Generations are advancing one after the other, revealing and correcting nature. Perhaps, after we correct the entire reality and reach the end of correction of all generations, new opportunities will be open to us.

But for the time being, we do not have the slightest contact with what is above the quality of bestowal. Perhaps, nature exists there in different ways that we, due to our structure, are not able to understand and feel. When we reach the end of correction, then we can talk about what is next. Kabbalists hint at this slightly in their books, but we still cannot understand them.

The Wisdom Of Kabbalah And Corporeal Sciences

laitman_283_02Question: What is the difference between the wisdom of Kabbalah and other sciences?

Answer: You attain and establish all the other sciences by your five fictitious senses, while you attain and establish the wisdom of Kabbalah by a new sense, which you receive from Above and by which you explore the upper world (since it all exists only with regard to the created being).

The difference between the wisdom of our world (which includes all the sciences that have already been revealed by us and which are yet to be revealed) and the wisdom of Kabbalah is that in the science of Kabbalah you have a sense of bestowal and you can control and explore yourself, the spiritual world, Godliness, and this world.

On the other hand, in conventional science, which studies this world, there is no external perspective, no objective point of view from which you can see the world and yourself and see what is right and what is wrong and how subjective everything is. Of course everything is absolutely subjective with regard to your senses. If you had additional senses or a sixth finger, you would discover something new.

This means that the sciences of this world and studies in this world using the five senses a person has are very limited and are only intended to bring a person to such a development of his ego, of his desire to receive, that he should understand and realize that he cannot advance any further with the sense of receiving that he now has.

Question: So what is the sixth sense that a person acquires when he studies Kabbalah?

Answer: The sixth sense is that attribute of bestowal. If the Light shines on you and influences you, it gives you its attributes and then your receive the attribute of bestowal, which we simply call the sixth sense. It isn’t just another sense in addition to your corporeal senses.

The Light gives you an additional attribute in which you can see and feel what is external to the desire to receive, what is external to you.

Skipping Over The Breakage

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we need to perceive Talmud Eser Sefirot, reading about some phenomenon, concepts, names of Partzufim of worlds?

Answer: Talmud Eser Sefirot describes the system that takes care and manages us from the world of Ein Sof. In the world of Ein Sof is the whole plan of creation from beginning to the end, and the system of the worlds divides it into stages, to the following order of actions through which we grow.

Question: How does it acts on us, how it cleans us so we will be more connected to the group?

Answer: The upper system works on us on the condition that you agree that it works on you in order to bring you to unity with the Creator, meaning you choose the path of Torah, the path of Light, or the path of suffering, one of the two.

But in this system there are not two paths; there is only a sequence of forces that act in an accurate, determined form from the beginning of correction until the end of correction. It all depends on how you receive the influence of these Lights that come to you through all the Partzufim.

The system of the worlds bestows on the creatures in a clear organized manner. But the creatures can receive this bestowal in a correct form and progress in a nice and quick way, and by that bring contentment to the Creator, and if not, they find themselves in the path of suffering. The system always displays orders that are obliged to come from within it.

Question: What does it mean to receive this bestowal in a correct form?

Answer: In a correct form, is for connection. After all we need to connect our general vessel that will skip over the breakage and will take all this breakage inside. At first there was only one desire; later the Light came and divided it to two, by entering between us. Now, between our desires there is Light or the Creator, but with a minus, in a negative form

There is one creature, and there is another creature, and between them the Creator in a negative form, meaning Pharaoh, Light with the sign minus. And we need to reverse it to plus, all the while recognizing and determining in each action that is revealed that there is none else besides Him and He is the good that does good.

Between you and me a big “minus” is revealed and we reverse it to ”plus,” reverse the darkness to light. Finally, between us, in this whole system, the Light becomes revealed. And this means that we clothe in the Creator, that we are in adhesion with Him.

The main thing is not to forget, that all the evil is simply the Creator that is revealed in an inverted form. By the breakage, the Light entered inside the vessel, and if now we will reverse it from evil to good, then we will reach the adhesion of the Light and vessel, about this it is said: “He and His name are one.”
