Hanukkah Is In A Person

laitman_627_2Question: I started to read about Hanukkah, the war of the Maccabees against the Yavanas (the Greeks), and I don’t understand how to relate to what is happening to our world?

Answer: First you need to accept a condition: all that Kabbalah talks about is

1) What is happening in the spiritual world

2) What is happening inside one person

The war of the Maccabees with the Yavanas is a struggle between the forces of reception and bestowal in a person who is on the way to unite with the Creator. The one who doesn’t study Kabbalah, doesn’t feel internally any Maccabees, any Yavanas, no Pharaoh, and no other characters in the Torah. All of them appear in a person only when one properly studies Kabbalah.

Kabbalah For Everyone

laitman_262Comment: I was introduced to a new book, Why Ones Are Loved, and Others – Not, And How to Make Oneself to Be Loved. It addresses issues of what a man and woman need from each other in order to maintain peace and harmony in their relationship for a long time, whether they should marry, what, in fact, love between them is?

The book says all that will be clarified if they observe each other a little and reflect on what is happening, using the ancient knowledge of the science of Kabbalah.

Answer: Kabbalah is a very high science. It is close to me like biocybernetics, which studies the management of biological systems. But in principle, it is impossible to talk to an average person from this height.

However, when you begin to explain to people those fragments of life that they cannot balance, the relationship between themselves, for example, men and women, parents and children, an employee and employer, roommates, or neighbors, etc., it turns out that Kabbalah can be explained in simple terms.

Therefore, we publish such manuals and books that are popular precisely because people feel that it could be useful for them. They do not understand lofty matters.

These books are written in simple language and although it seems that they are very far from Kabbalah, they are based on its ideas because it studies the homeostasis of the control systems between us: balance of the human internal system and relationships between people.

In principle, the wisdom of Kabbalah can be defined as a system of knowledge that helps to balance our relationships so that harmony between reception and bestowal of everyone to everyone else is manifested so that we become connected like cogwheels in a single mechanism. After all, we represent a complete closed integral system.

Uniting in such a system, people start to feel inner harmony within it, which manifests itself in a person and gives him a sense of the next level of existence.

Learning To Live In An Integral World, Part 1

laitman_579The Light created a desire to receive and after that divided it into five phases. The “root” phase – Keter still belongs to the Light. And from it the first phase emerges that belongs to the desire, to the Kli, to Hochma. The Hochma phase is a desire to receive that wants to be bestow like Keter and becomes Bina.  Bina produces Zeir Anpin, a unique Kli that integrates reception and bestowal within itself. And Zeir Anpin produces Malchut that includes all of the characteristics within itself and wants to get everything without taking account of anything; the main thing is to be filled.

These states are called the Four Phases of Direct Light because they are created by the Light that extends directly from above to below. The last phase, Malchut, which is the only true Kli, the creature, is also divided into five parts: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.

Desires on levels 2, 3 and 4 are very strong, difficult, and especially egoistic. They are called receptive desires, the AHP. The desires on levels 0 and 1 are lighter desires, Galgalta ve Eynaim (GE).

The goal of creation is to bring all of Malchut to the state of Keter, like the Creator. For this to happen, many actions take place, including a shattering. And now it is up to us to correct everything. It is interesting that there are parts of Malchut that are not ready to be awakened to correction by themselves and require external awakening. And there are parts that awaken by themselves and yearn for the goal of creation, for the Creator. They already want to attain the heavens and the upper world here in this life. Such people come to study the wisdom of Kabbalah; they want to know the meaning of life: What are we living for?

Many ask this question, especially in their childhood from the ages of 5 to 10. But after that a child grows and stops asking about this. The moment that sexual attraction develops in him, he forgets these questions about the meaning of life. What can be done about it? That’s life. Society suppresses them in a person and he stops thinking about the meaning of his existence.

Among some of the people there are spiritual Reshimot (remembrances) that force them to search for the meaning of life. And other people are not ready even to imagine questions like these. But all of us are parts of the same Kli, everyone must reach correction.

The uniqueness of the integral Kli is that each part includes all the rest of the parts within itself. It is impossible to correct the source phase or the first phase without including all the rest of the phases within them. This is the law of the integral system.

Even our body functions according to the same principle, even though we are not aware of it. According to eastern medicine there are points on the hands and the feet which represent all the organs of the body: the kidneys, the heart, all of the organs. And this is truly so.

So to correct ourselves, we must be drawn towards correction of the whole world. There is no choice! In our day this is an obligation! In previous periods Kabbalists would correct themselves since there was no possibility of speaking openly with people about the wisdom of Kabbalah and about the meaning of life. So Kabbalists were in concealment. It was even forbidden to open one’s mouth to speak about Kabbalah publicly.

This situation continued until 30-40 years ago. It was forbidden to talk about the wisdom of Kabbalah in the street, as someone was liable to hear. If someone found out that you were studying Kabbalah, people would simply shy away from you. It was considered to be criminal. And bookstores didn’t sell books about Kabbalah.

So throughout the generations, beginning from ancient Babylon, Kabbalists corrected what was possible, meaning themselves. Even thirty years ago they secretly learned the wisdom of Kabbalah. And only in our times has Kabbalah emerged from hiding and become common knowledge.

But along with this, we must correct the world; otherwise, we cannot correct ourselves. It was enough for Kabbalists of the past to correct themselves, but for us this is no longer enough. Many sources have been written about this.

Baal HaSulam writes in the article, “The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee)”: But the end of the correction of the world will only be by bringing all the people in the world under His work, as it is written,”And the Lord shall be King over all the earth (meaning over every desire); in that day shall the Lord be One, and His name one” (Zechariah, 14:9).

Life Is Perceiving What Seems Non-Existent

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (John Assaraf, spiritual entrepreneur, philanthropist and teacher): “Nobel Prize winning physicists have proven beyond doubt that the physical world is one large sea of energy that flashes into and out of being in milliseconds, over and over again.

“Nothing is solid.

“This is the world of Quantum Physics.

“They have proven that thoughts are what put together and hold together this ever-changing energy field into the ‘objects’ that we see.

“So why do we see a person instead of a flashing cluster of energy?

“Think of a movie reel. A movie is a collection of about 24 frames a second. Each frame is separated by a gap. However, because of the speed at which one frame replaces another, our eyes get cheated into thinking that we see a continuous and moving picture.

“Think of television. A TV tube is simply a tube with heaps of electrons hitting the screen in a certain way, creating the illusion of form and motion.

“This is what all objects are anyway. You have 5 physical senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste).

“Each of these senses has a specific spectrum (for example, a dog hears a different range of sound than you do; a snake sees a different spectrum of light than you do; and so on).

“In other words, your set of senses perceives the sea of energy from a certain limited standpoint and makes up an image from that. It is not complete, nor is it accurate. It is just an interpretation.

“All of our interpretations are solely based on the ‘internal map’ of reality that we have, and not the real truth. Our ‘map’ is a result of our personal life’s collective experiences.

“Our thoughts are linked to this invisible energy and they determine what the energy forms. Your thoughts literally shift the universe on a particle-by-particle basis to create your physical life.

“Look around you. Everything you see in our physical world started as an idea, an idea that grew as it was shared and expressed, until it grew enough into a physical object through a number of steps.

“You literally become what you think about most. Your life becomes what you have imagined and believed in most.

“Quantum physics shows us that the world is not the hard and unchangeable thing it may appear to be. Instead, it is a very fluid place continuously built up using our individual and collective thoughts.

“What we think is true is really an illusion, almost like a magic trick. Fortunately we have begun to uncover the illusion and most importantly, how to change it.

“What is your body made of? Nine systems comprise the human body including Circulatory, Digestive, Endocrine, Muscular, Nervous, Reproductive, Respiratory, Skeletal, and Urinary.

What are those made up of? Tissues and organs. What are tissues and organs made of? Cells. What are cells made of? Molecules. What are molecules made of? Atoms. What are atoms made of? Sub-atomic particles. What are subatomic particles made of? Energy!

“You and I are pure energy – light in its most beautiful and intelligent configuration. Energy that is constantly changing beneath the surface and you control it all with your powerful mind.

“Quantum physics tells us that it is the act of observing an object that causes it to be there where and how we observe it.

“An object does not exist independently of its observer! So, as you can see, your observation, your attention to something, and your intention, literally creates that thing.”

My Comment: At present, physicists are almost able to realize the process of creation of the world through our feelings. For nearly 6,000 years, Kabbalah has spoken about the world as existing only in our sensations, and no more. See Baal HaSulam’s “Introduction to The Book of Zohar,” about the photographic machine that is our consciousness.

The Ideology Of Balance And Unity

laitman_254_02Question: You graduated from the Polytechnic Institute, studied biology and cybernetics, and then worked in the Military Medical Academy Laboratory. Then you’ve repatriated to Israel, where you found yourself to be religious. Until that time were you an atheist?

Answer: My view of the world comes from the internal Torah. I’ve always been interested in the problem of the meaning of human life, the program that controls the universe, the system that guides us, in the issues of the past, present, and future.

Comment: So, in your worldview aspiration, you postulate a religion, that is, the existence of the Almighty …

Answer: No, because the image that a religious person imagines under the term “higher force” is completely unacceptable for a Kabbalist.

Under the Almighty, the All-Knowing, the founder of it all, I mean a huge system of the universe, not only our world, but also those hidden worlds, those hidden systems that exist around us, control us, and which we can control by the reciprocal connection.

Torah in my outlook plays a very important role, but not in the sense in which it is understood by the common person or by an ordinary believer, but in its internal sense. Torah teaches how to change oneself to get out of the non-terrestrial, unlimited existence.

Kabbalah is a practical system of knowledge that enables a person for the life span that one lives in this world, to understand, to comprehend, and to achieve a highest dimension, to rise above the level of death and already feel the upcoming states.

A person has a direct influence on the control system, in which we exist. One should just feel this connection, and then take control of one’s own destiny.

Kabbalah was revealed for the first time 5774 years ago by a man called Adam. After 20 generations of Kabbalists, Abraham, the ancient Babylonian high priest, created the Jewish people. He gathered a group of people who wanted to combine the principle of “love thy neighbor as thyself.” It became the ideology of our people, their constitution. Joined together, we are one nation, which is called Yehudim from the word “Yichud” (unity).

As a result of its development, the group had to show the rest of Babylon, who didn’t want to follow Abraham, how it’s necessary to correct themselves, to rise above self-interest and withdraw from the huge crisis of human interconnection.

This is what Kabbalah was intended for, where the two components of the universe, the altruism and egoism, bestowal and reception, are combined into one creation. Reception in order to bestow is the right interconnection for people in perfect harmony.

Now we only have the property of reception. Even if we bestow, we do so only in order to receive. If we add the property of bestowal toward the property of reception, we will add a property of bestowal to ourselves, then we will be like the overall harmonious nature, the still, vegetative, and animal levels. By developing a bestowal not for the sake of reception, but just for the sake of bestowal, for a proper interconnection with each other, we will balance our egoism with altruism, the minus and the plus.

In nature, a minus and a plus balanced out on the still, vegetative, and animal level. But on the level of human consciousness, at the level of our mental connections between each other, we can’t do that. This is the current general global crisis, which is a manifestation of one egoistic force in us.

The source of the current global crisis is the disharmony between altruism and egoism. Only the Jewish people can implement this harmony, and we’ve been trying to bring it to mankind through our Kabbalah Academy.

Kabbalah isn’t a religion; it’s not a belief based on some assumptions; it is a science. A person shouldn’t believe in anything here, lower oneself in front of anything, or perform any rituals. A person just has to want to look into one’s life.

Religion is something that someone believes into, and Kabbalah, like any science, can be confirmed in practice.

Practicing Kabbalist

laitman_214Question: What is it, to be a Kabbalist that is occupied in practical work?

Answer: A Kabbalist that is occupied in practical work is a man that reveals the Creator in our world and wants to bring the whole world to Him. He works on the change of the ego to bestowal, altruism, hatred to love, the separation between us to unity. He realizes the thought of the Creator in our world, investigates and realizes it.

A real Kabbalist is a materialist and not mystical. He sees that the whole world exists as one whole under the influence of one force, and understands that in this world everything works under one law, the law of completion, unity, and mutual integrality, meaning, the law of love, and if it seems to us, that it is not like that, it is only because it is the way we are built and we need to correct our incorrect point of view. The evil that we see outside ourselves actually is within us and is reflected by our distorted vision on the exterior world. If I were completely corrected, then I would not see any evil in the world.

Question: Does it means, that the Kabbalist does not see any evil in the world?

Answer: It depends on what degree he is in. The thing is that our ego, that is called “Pharaoh,” is divided into 125 egoistic degrees, and the Kabbalist corrects them inside himself in portions, in parts, from the weakest degree to the greatest. By correcting each one of them, it is as if he rises in the degrees of the ladder of attainment, connecting with the upper force, in adhesion with the whole of humanity, and in this adhesion he feels the Creator.

To be a practicing Kabbalist, it means, to be a teacher or student, one that attains the upper world, to study according to authentic Kabbalistic sources, and to devote himself completely to it, because all the attainment of the spiritual world is also the fulfillment and the purpose of life.

Because when you begin to understand whom you are dealing with, then all the rest that is in this world is clearly seen as the fruits of the human imagination; these are insignificant efforts and experiences in comparison to the attainment of eternity, completion, the perfection of the Creator.

An Unhappy Sage

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Knowledge is the highest degree that allows us to comprehend the whole of reality. This is what is expressed in Ecclesiastes by King Solomon. However, as a result, he came to the conclusion that “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow” and “the wise man shall die the same as the fool.” Why didn’t acquisition of wisdom and knowledge bring him the desired happiness?

Answer: Because wisdom and knowledge are just a way to achieve happiness. To be happy is our whole life. We do not need anything except to feel what to enjoy. Ultimately, the only thing we want is to enjoy life.

We can clothe this into various things, events, phenomena, but we want to enjoy, to fulfill ourselves. By pleasure, I mean filling ourselves with life because we have nothing except life. So, we want to feel it as fulfilling and pleasant.

What does it mean that a person lives? He has a spirit that either oppresses him or makes him happy. I want this spirit to be filled with vitality. As we have said, I always need to renew myself in order to do this. Thus, when I want wealth, power, knowledge, or even lesser things, such as a family, sex, or food, it is only in order to receive pleasure.

If you remove the enjoyment of food, a person eats because he has to only to support the body, much like a person who is sick. If he does not receive pleasure from sex, he gets treatment, since otherwise he does not feel any pleasure from life. If there is no joy in the family, he gets divorced.

The same applies to wealth, where we look at our environment and hope to gain independence and security. And now we see that at any moment, everything can be lost. Power today is too transient and not the way it was in the past when there were kings.

Finally, you reach wisdom and see everything what happens. What did you discover? Looking at all the sources of enjoyment, you see that they contain nothing, just as wisdom itself. What have you achieved by comprehending all of creation, which you can see from edge to edge? Everything functions and everything is empty.

And then you find yourself at a dead end and you literally hit the wall, because there is no place further to go. If you are a wise man, if you see the consequences of your every action and every task, you do not start it. You have nothing to do. What remains is only to commit suicide.

Today, we talk about science as of the revelation of the entire world. It implies that you are not just a scholar who studies bugs, either live or electronic, but a great philosopher, a sage. And that is completely different wisdom.

Patent For A Happy Life

laitman_277Happiness is the fulfillment of a person’s strongest desires. In general, it appears in contrast to a feeling of dissatisfaction.

For example, hunger gives a sensation of pleasure from food, separation gives a sensation of joy from meeting a close and dear friend, etc. In other words, we are built so that we can feel something positive only from something negative.

Then the question arises: Is it worthwhile for us to aspire and yearn for happiness at all if first we must sink into suffering in order to feel happy later?

The fact is that the Kabbalistic method makes it possible for a person to experience happiness at the same time as feeling lack of fulfillment. In other words, at that very moment I taste something, I also feel a longing for that taste and its fulfillment.

I don’t need to divide this into time: now, I suffer, and later I receive. This is because for people who are involved with spiritual work, there is no question of time. They exist outside of time and move simultaneously through states of suffering and fulfillment, hunger and satiation.

This is the wisdom of Kabbalah, a wisdom about how to receive! It teaches a person to get what you want not in another month or year, but specifically at the moment you want it. Together with this, as a pair, two potentially opposite values are always operating simultaneously, plus and minus.

In our world, this doesn’t exist. Here, there is one big minus for which, in fact, we don’t get a plus. While according to the Kabbalistic method, the reception of pleasure itself invites in us a desire for it and its fulfillment.

Question: However, how does one do this? How is there happiness in this world in spite of it all?

Answer: This is possible only when I am not fulfilled independently, but through others. All happiness is latent in this because I never can fulfill myself by myself. However, if I feel and absorb the desires and deficiencies of others, by fulfilling them, I fulfill myself, for their desires become mine. It follows that I fulfill myself by existing in others.

The secret lies in the fact that I go outside of myself, discover desires and deficiencies outside of myself, accept them as mine and fulfill them. In other words, both desire and fulfillment are found outside of me, but this is my soul.

Question: Do we even fulfill a person’s physical desires like this?

Answer: We supply all of his desires, but only to a certain extent. The physical desires of a person are fulfilled only to the degree that his existence is provided for, and no more, whereas spiritual desires are fulfilled to the degree that we want to rise together because my elevation and his are mutually connected and complete each other.

In this manner, fulfillment of the desires of others gives us a feeling of happiness.

The Children Of The Universe, Part 8

laitman_527_03Today we study nature only through the power to receive, which is our initial, primary attribute. I always aspire to receive what is good for me. This is how I live and this is what I am like; this is my conscious and my subconscious thinking and I cannot think any other way.

This is because I was born out of the evolution of the still, vegetative, and animate nature. Every matter aspires to differentiate and to classify itself in the most efficient way by resisting anything that can cause it harm and resting peacefully as tightly and as safely as possible to the other parts.  Therefore I constantly worry about how to provide everything that I need in the best, safest, and most comfortable way compared to others.

This attribute is typical of all forms of matter including the still nature that passively guards itself. On the vegetative level the environment is already used: organisms produce useful substances from the soil, consume oxygen or carbon dioxide, etc.

Metabolic processes take place in them and they know how to use the environment in order to grow at its expense. Creatures on the animate level grow not only thanks to the still environment but also thanks to the vegetative and the animate. Animals eat plants and other animals.

At the same time, all the organisms develop and multiply, and it is all based on the initial desire to guard themselves as much as possible by keeping away from anything that is harmful and getting closer to what is beneficial. All this is the essence of the egoistic force of receiving that is in every creature.

As for man, he has succeeded in that sense more than all the other levels. He finds pleasure in taking resources from others even if he doesn’t need them since it raises him and makes him more important compared to others around him. He gets rid of and drives away those who can harm him and keeps only those he can benefit from close to him. He doesn’t assess himself in the framework of the closest environment but compared to the whole world throughout time.

The human ego is highly developed, and its perception, its view of the world, is rooted in our internal program. No matter what I perceive by my senses, I see only what I want to see and not what actually happens in reality.

I don’t pay attention to anything that doesn’t belong to my corporeal existence, to my desire to receive. Neutral things that are not harmful or beneficial to me are not in my field of vision. I simply cannot identify them.

The Children Of The Universe, Part 6

Laitman_077We see the solar system and the planets that orbit other stars and the interesting fact is the complexity of the systems in which every part influences the others. For ages people have found different signs of these influences while looking at the sky, and these signs are true.

We have, for example, some idea of how the moon affects us. Certain phenomena are known, but we don’t have any real knowledge.

Generally speaking, many forces certainly operate and influence us and we have to keep on studying them. The influence of the universe is immense, but it is concealed from us because of our own limitations.

In fact, nothing is concealed in nature but depends on the essence of the researcher. Unfortunately, we don’t pay enough attention to this aspect. Otherwise, we would know much more about the universe, including, for example, the influence of the moon on the level of the oceans, the air, our diseases, and so on.

But no, man is attracted to what he can later use in industry, wars, etc. This kind of knowledge seems valuable to him, while celestial objects, both near and distant are beyond our control and don’t seem to offer any benefit because they don’t attract our minds and hearts and therefore don’t attract enough resources. This kind of research was considered more valuable in the past.

One of the basic elements of the universe is the law of gravity. What is it? No one knows. The nature of the force of gravity and its cause are a mystery to us.

On the whole we never know the real reasons for what we see and we only study the outcome of the phenomena that we encounter, which sums up all our science. We don’t ask why, but what and how. In other words, we learn how to use the forces of the universe, including its matter. We know how to do it in the short run, but we don’t attain and understand the main reasons, the basic nature of these forces.

But basically it is something else. Our limitation becomes a problem when we discover that without knowing the general system we cannot manage even on our small planet.

This is surprising that the still, vegetative, and animate nature don’t have questions like: “to live or die?” or “how to live?” All the creatures get along with their environment instinctively and in the best possible way without dominating and ruling it, aspiring to get the most by minimal effort. Nature contains all these levels in such a simple egoistic manner.

But man cannot get along in a similar way; man aspires to change his environment, to change others. Therefore he is forced to learn, study, explore, and advance. This internal urge is in our nature and we must provide ourselves with the necessary amount of information, options, and potential.

Besides, we have such thirst for knowing what the meaning of life is that some of us even look at the universe again and again, since it is the source of our birth. The earth is its outcome, our cradle, but in fact we come from outer space, where we began. How can we know ourselves if we don’t know our origin, the forces and the reason that formed our planet and everything that is on it, including ourselves?

If we engaged in it seriously, we would learn something, but instead we look down at our small planet like kids in a sandbox: who has more, who has succeeded and who didn’t… We refuse to accept the perspective of our evolution outside the sandbox, not in the planetary sense but in a much wider sense.
