“What International Community?”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Richard N. Haass, President of the Council on Foreign Relations, USA): “Whenever something bad happens – Iran moving closer to acquiring nuclear weapons, … some official or observer will call upon the international community to act. There is only one problem: there is no ‘international community.’

“The United Nations General Assembly comes closest, but little can be expected from an organization that equates the United States or China with, say, Fiji or Guinea-Bissau. …

“No amount of UN reform could make things fundamentally different. Today’s major powers do not agree on the rules that ought to govern the world, much less on the penalties for breaking them. Even where there is accord in principle, there is little agreement in practice. The result is a world that is messier and more dangerous than it should be.”

My Comment: The whole advancement to perfection comes from the “recognition of evil”: the revelation of the imperfection of our egoistic nature. Only when the human being, people, and the world are finally convinced of the total corruption of this nature, the self, and the world will they will be happy to give it up. Then, the upper force of nature will be revealed in their sensations. People ask it to change them, and it corrects them. Everything that happens to us is only to bring us to this event.

When Threats Nullify Everything

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”: …the well-being of society, which is the well-being of the state and the well-being of the world, are completely interdependent. As long as the laws of society are not satisfactory to each and every individual in the state, and leave a minority that is unsatisfied with the government of the state, this minority conspires under the government of the state and seeks to overthrow it.

Our world is round not just because the earth is round, but because all the connections round up before our eyes. All the signals move back and forth between us and we are all connected even if it’s against our will.

When we discover the inner connection between us, we also fulfill it on the outside by building different instruments to help us communicate. Did a person who lived three centuries ago need a mobile phone; actually no, and for what? Did he need it in order to check the prices of flour or salt in another state? What difference would it make? After all, it was too far.

But direct physical contact gradually became an emotional contact, and people invented transportation, cars, trains, planes, and radio connections, etc. On the whole, fifty years ago there was no need for global communication cables that connect the entire world, but now we can’t even imagine managing without them. During the last fifteen years the Internet has surrounded the whole world and has become part of every person’s life. Why? Because man has felt an inner need for that and has developed the right technology. By the way, today we also have greater deficiencies, but the ego of individual people curbs their advancement and doesn’t provide us with the right tools…

It all stems from frustration, from an inner attraction to something. This is what should obligate us to build tools by which we can correct the world.

At the same time, the global connection is accompanied by a negative and very dangerous phenomenon. Because of the ego we are connected by evil desires, and each one wants to dominate others, to enjoy at their expense, and to use them. If we could only set certain limitations, but it’s very difficult. Thus the connection between us can be very dangerous.

We are in a state of transition, an intermediate state, and despite the threats we have a need for absolute connection. We want to see and hear everyone regardless of language differences, cultural differences, and other differences, and we want to understand and to feel as much as possible. We are ready to make the Internet into something that is totally different since now it already offers us very limited options compared to our requirements. Modern technology can bridge this gap, but in the meantime we don’t develop it for more extensive use.

We are in a very sharp transition and the peace in the world actually depends on each one. This means that each one needs correction since otherwise he can cause harm on an internal scale. Hackers, for example, can disrupt many essential functions by remote control and break the electronic protection of gas reservoirs or the power supply system. In other words, a certain expert can bring about a great disaster just by using his ten fingers from some distant corner of the world.

This means that as long as we are not corrected, the connection between us is very dangerous to the peace in the world. It relates to many different areas and especially to those who produce weapons and deal with them. These people just wait for a conflict to break out somewhere in the world. This is the way the egoistic world thinks and it will remain that way until we correct our ego.

But on the other hand, it’s the danger that was caused by global phenomena that brings about an opportunity for correction, since we will have no choice; we will not be able to go on living under this terrible constant threat. As long as we are under this threat, it isn’t worthwhile to live, to get married, to have children, and to raise them if everyone can easily hurt my success and even put an end to my life. All the beginnings become insignificant.

It’s then that a person finally understands that we must correct the situation. How can I protect myself against criminals? Actually my life depends on everyone and I simply cannot live under this constant terrible threat. It’s impossible to chase all the potential criminals.

Perhaps all this will force us to make a decision since we have no other choice.

In the meantime, we don’t even understand how we can reach a solution, through the UN? We see how impotent this organization is. Behind the bipolar connection there is a bitter truth according to which everyone tries to profit at the expense of others. In fact there is nowhere to turn. There is no organization or institution that represents humanity with regard to the key questions of our time.

Baal HaSulam says that the wellbeing of the world and the wellbeing of the individual are the same. The essential condition of our time is to finally acknowledge the need for connection, for peace, for agreement, and for love among us. Without love we cannot survive. The principle of “love thy friend as thyself” is the result of a very difficult process of the recognition of evil when there is no choice and a person will understand that he must fulfill it.

One way or the other, the individual and the general advance along the same path today, along the path of the recognition of evil, that eventually pushes us to make the decision that we have to change our lifestyle and adopt new software. Then we will finally embark on a new path.

The Crisis Will Bring Us Back To Marx’s Theory

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur state depends on how we evaluate it, according to what values. A person receives a scale of values from the environment. We started to develop due to the environment when we climbed down from the trees. All of human development occurs because society promotes that it’s necessary to be big, strong, and prosperous. Thus the progress of humanity began.

The development is only possible thanks to the community. If society had not instilled new values in us, in excess of what is required by the body for simple existence, we would have remained as animals. We are no different from them except for the element of competition, which we are engaged in amongst ourselves, a development due to the environment.

The environment is evolving and we are developing together with it. This development is not characteristic of animals, only of humans. A special kind of animal that can grow due to the environment is called a human being in this world. And the kind of human being who is able to develop by means of purposefully developing his environment is called a Kabbalist. These are two stages that rise above the animal level: an ordinary person and a Kabbalist.

Kabbalists specially develop their environment to evolve due to it, as if they pull themselves up by the hair. Average people do not do that. Society develops and pulls them in different directions in the same plane of this world, but not towards qualitatively new values.

Thus, humanity evolves naturally until it comes to a crisis. The development based on competition leads to the situation when a part of humanity is insanely enriched and the other completely impoverished. The situation becomes critical because no middle layer is left. We have already passed the stage when society had hoped to achieve universal prosperity, the realization of the American dream that promised everyone abundance for his work.

But this is impossible; human egoism will not let the rich sacrifice even a bit. It will force them to keep 100% of their wealth. The most they will tear from themselves for the poor is 0.1% only so the poor can somehow survive and serve the rich, but not more.

So, we return to Marx’s theory because our ego separates us to the antagonistic poles between which war is inevitable. The attempt to build a developed post-industrial welfare society has failed because in this case someone has to sacrifice his profit; the rich should share with the poor. And why should they suddenly agree to that if it’s possible to squeeze out of the poor everything and leave only a minimum so they will not starve to death?

Our egoism deprives us of reason; you look at the world and are amazed by what happens in it: The rich are killing themselves by their actions, risking their own lives. But they cannot stop. The ego is growing and forcing them to act in this manner.

By Changing Ourselves, We Are Changing The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur role is to understand that there is one and only one global nature, and we are the ones who need to connect it through mutual integration, through our intentions. Therefore the concept of “There is none else besides him” is derived from the unity of nature; there is nothing besides the one system that includes everything within it.

And it seems to us as separate because we are also separated, and therefore we don’t see the world as it is but see it according to the condition in which each person feels it solely and only individually within himself. The reason the world seems to us as separate, mutually distant, can be found in the lack of mutual connections between each other; this is discovered more and more with each passing day due to the fact that our ego is constantly growing. Moreover, its acceleration is growing acutely hyperbolic; we see how every year, every month, every week, and even every day, everything in the world is changing very rapidly. And this change is happening specifically because the same changes are happening in us. The world is felt solely and only individually. Therefore the method by which the world is felt correctly is derived from this as well; if we change our characteristics, then we change how the world is felt.

Currently there has already been much work done on this subject by philosophers, psychologists, and physicists. Scientists are gradually beginning to approach the awareness that the world depends on our subjective feelings, yet they are all identical. While everyone feels the world differently, they all feel it in the same manner through our egoistic characteristics. If we correct them so that the characteristics become opposite, then certainly we would feel the world differently: as integral and mutually linked. From here is derived one of the assumptions of our method: “Don’t think about correcting the world…” By these words we mean humanity. We don’t correct the world; rather we correct ourselves. So we begin to feel not only the world, but also ourselves within it completely differently. Ultimately, our movement from the present state, which is called “our world,” to the future state, which is called the “world of the infinity,” is in its entirety an inner correction of how we feel the world, and no more than this.

Progress That Leads To Regression

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday the Creator intentionally makes the whole world feel that it is hanging in the air. A person doesn’t know what to expect and what will happen next. Suddenly there are floods in Europe, hurricanes in America, fires, and mass killing. The whole world is shocked: “the Arab Spring,” “the Turkish Spring,” the uprisings in Syria, Lebanon, Libya, and Egypt. It is all happening when with modern technology and opportunities that we have, we could have solved all the corporeal problems and turned the earth into Heaven.

Everyone knows that, politicians, scientists, and sociologists. We have reached such a level of progress that we could easily provide the whole world population with all the basic needs such as food and clothing. There is no problem except for man himself: Man is the only thing that needs to be corrected.

After all, for the time being we can promise ourselves corporeal prosperity in every area and we can solve all our problems, but at the same time half of the world’s population is starving and the other half is suffering from depression and is losing the desire to live, like in Europe where there are no food problems but there are other problems.

The only thing that can save us is changing human nature. We must all understand this and make this our main goal. There is no other way. We will not succeed in anything if we don’t change our nature. It has to be clear to everyone and first of all to those who engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah.

We can abandon all the other attempts to correct the situation since no matter what achievements we will make in supplying food and clothing, in heavy and light industry, in high-tech, it will not improve our state at all. Technologically we can do wonders, but we cannot use that for the benefit of mankind.

We can invent remedies for certain diseases. Even now there are already remedies for cancer, kidney and heart diseases that are much better than the ones that are used today, but it isn’t profitable to manufacture them and so they don’t reach the market. It is much more profitable to manufacture more expensive equipment and to create greater confusion in order to keep the doctors and the medical professionals busier. A whole industry revolves around this; the healthcare system is a healthcare plant.

So we cannot fix anything before we correct human nature. We have to focus only on that and then we will succeed. Otherwise it won’t work.

My practically new printer went out of order a while ago. I managed to print only 50 pages and it already stopped working. The manufacturers intentionally manufacture products that will break down immediately and we will have to buy new ones. Our nature intentionally makes us do everything in the opposite manner. It seems that technology is advancing but the bottom line is that we are regressing in every area. It is all meant so that we will understand the evil in us.

No wonder no one feels secure and there is no good and pleasant environment for our children. Eventually it will be impossible to predict what will happen from one moment to the next and you will turn into a little frightened rabbit hiding under a leaf. This will be our life: In the morning you will think about how to survive until the evening and at night you will wait for the morning.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to advance without fear. After all, I am an egoist, so the only way to impress me is by fear. There are endless types of fear: good or bad fear, fear of this world and of the next world, fear of not attaining the Creator, of not being able to perceive Him, of not being able to bestow upon Him. But in any case, fear is the most efficient stimulus. Fear can lead to what is desirable, as it is derived from the desire. I want to achieve a certain goal and I fear that will not be able to achieve it, which means that fear stems from fear and this is already a real motive , which is called “fear.”

To Be Alert, And Not Just Exist Through The Power Of Inertia!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: There exists a theory according to which it is possible to reduce the population of the earth to 500 thousand people and then everything will correct itself apparently. How would this happen?

Answer: Reduction of the population can happen as you want, through biological means (viruses, vaccines, and so forth) or as a result of atomic weapons that everyone has today, like a club in the hands of a wild man. However, the complete annihilation of humanity will not come into the calculation because this is against the laws of nature. We are found in a framework of a structure and hierarchy that is organized precisely. It’s not human but natural: A goal was established and a program was activated.

The one thing that we can do in the present stage is to learn from nature by discovering its program. Then we will feel better and develop in harmony with it. The idea is that the essential and most basic law of nature is the law of equivalence of form with it. Equivalence! If I am equal to some law or phenomenon and I don’t conflict with it, then I pass to another more blessed sphere or state.

Therefore, what is imperative for us now is to learn and to explore nature. Which discoveries will be made in it? Why is it leading us to integrality, mutual connection of all with all? For what are we developing our desires? What requirements are there for humans and why do they vary like this? How and why does our egoistic nature push us backward? What does nature want to show us according to the law of integrality, according to the law of equivalence? What do we need to strive for?

If we learn all this, then we reach the conclusion that we must be released from our ego. On this subject there has already been a lot of research, not just conducted by good people with good intentions, but tough researchers who discovered this knowledge through research and who understand that it’s impossible to go any other way.

Therefore, we need to create an integral method, a system of integral education. And all humans,  school and college students, the old and the unemployed, workers and housewives will pass through this system. We don’t need to think that in the future humanity will be left without work. It will be constantly occupied with self-improvement, and this will be its work.

Today in the labor market millions of people are discharged, so let’s attract them to the lessons. They must learn, be tested! Pass the monthly test, get a scholarship. Don’t call it unemployment, it’s a scholarship! You are learning and with this you are making a great investment in humanity, this is your work.

Accordingly, the person is changed inside. He enters a system that teaches him about what nature, history, his personal development, the history of human development, the psychology of the person and society are. This is to say, this is how we investigate nature from within us. All the “tools” are given to a person so that in this life he will see and will not exist by inertia: work – family, this is everything.

In the end a person needs to understand that he is part of that great system and if he is found in balance within it, he gains perfection, harmony, the feeling of an infinitely perfect life. Infinite! He departs from the framework of the beastly body.

A Small Garden Can Feed Everyone

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Next Big Future): “The Pronutria process is radically more efficient than current agriculture and livestock cultivation, and produces pure nutrition up to 1,000 times more efficiently, with minimal environmental impact and maximal nutrition quality.

“Livestock alone occupy 45 percent of the world’s land surface area and contribute more greenhouse gas emissions than cars, planes, and all other forms of transportation combined. Even with the yield improvements offered by GMO crops, these 10,000-year-old technologies are simply too resource inefficient to meet the world’s growing demand for nutritious food. …

“The central breakthrough in Pronutria’s technology is the discovery that single photosynthetic cells can be optimized to allow for the continuous and ultra-efficient production of essential proteins, lipids, sugars, or vitamins, using only sunlight, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and either fresh or salt water as inputs. “

My Comment: The crisis is happening in countries where the population has enough food and in general do not starve! It is possible to solve all modern problems technologically, but they cannot be solved practically until we correct the human being so that he no longer seeks to suppress others, and on the contrary, yearns to support others as his children.

Before human egoistic nature (his property to suppress others) is changed, the crisis of human confrontation with nature (the property of love and bestowal) will only expand. This crisis, since it is general, will not let us solve any of our problems. For example, while there is general abundance in the world, half of humanity will die of starvation.

A Hidden Point In The Clouds Of Human Desires

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, Exodus, Jethro, 19:20 – 19:24: And the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the Lord called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

And the Lord said unto Moses: “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of them will perish. And let the priests also, that come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them.” And Moses said unto the Lord: “The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst charge us saying, ‘Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.’”And the Lord said unto him: “Go get thee down and thou shalt come up, thou and Aaron with thee, but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the Lord, lest He break forth upon them.”

The Creator’s words that prohibit people from coming closer to Him means that all actions and all egoistic desires should not come in contact with Him since we cannot yet work for the sake of bestowal. Moses says that people have already heard this command. In other words, we think that even though we have received enough notices, we still cannot use our egoistic desires, since in spite of the fact that they are not controlled by the evident power of the Pharaoh, they still have not yet been corrected. They are still regular, earthly, egoistic desires as opposed to a “point in the heart” that is detached from them.

Moses is a point in us that is connected with the Creator and that possesses His nature. However, it is greatly mixed up with other desires and that’s why it’s invisible. It doesn’t shine yet; rather, it concerns us by triggering blurred thoughts about the meaning of life.

Other thoughts and desires of ours continue to be interlaced with this world and this material realm. So, even though it seems to us that we don’t want this useless existence of ours, once we start implementing our material desires, we immediately “roll” back. The desires that are oriented towards this world wake up in us and we forget about the “lofty stuff.”

So, we have to strictly divide the point in the heart (the property of Moses and Aaron) from the rest of our egoistic desires. If not for the point named “Moses” (desires that descend from the next upper level, from the property of bestowal), we would simply be as animals.

This point comes to us from a totally different plane and personifies the Creator’s quality in us. Due to it, we make many mistakes. It seems to us that we have already become righteous and that we have climbed to the top. In fact, as soon as we start doing something earthly, our thoughts immediately “fly” to the opposite direction and we experience deep falls. This happens because of the point in the heart. And yet, we should not be embarrassed, indignant, or surprised since it’s just human nature. We have to regard it as a mechanism that acts unpredictably without any idea of what will happen the next moment.

This state of affairs lasts until we reach the final correction before which the utmost bottomless downfall happens. Things that we live through today are just very insignificant fluctuations, back and forth, plus and minus. Wonderful discoveries await us ahead.

A Difficult Ascent
To Wash “Our “Garments” In The Light Of Hassadim

Throw All The Power Toward The Main Matter

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe first time there was a truly egoistic alienation between people—the desire to separate—was in ancient Babylon. Egoism grew, and this was the reason why people began to distance themselves from others. As they say, they no longer understood each other. It was then that the wisdom of Kabbalah appeared.

It was revealed to one of the priests in ancient Babylon, Abraham, who discovered our dependence on egoism and understood that this egoism started developing on purpose. That was when it abruptly appeared, causing all the nations from ancient Mesopotamia to disperse around the world.

Then the wisdom of Kabbalah was revealed which basically said that people must unite in spite of egoism. This is very difficult and beyond human abilities, but we need to understand that this is the challenge of nature, and we need to act in this way. “If we unite and keep the same unity that we had before the outbreak of egoism,” Abraham preached, “then, all the time, we will rise above egoism. As it grows, we will maintain unity and rise higher.”

So, it is said in the primary sources that in the past all people were like one family. Everyone spoke the same language, everyone understood each other, and everyone was close to each other. They lived a simple life and ate the same food. Even if someone was richer and the other poorer, this was not reflected much in their way of life. Everyone ate dried fish (it was in abundance in Mesopotamia), bread, onions, garlic, and some dairy products. That is all in general. That was all they had, but everyone had it. That is, people had little concern about how to feed themselves. The land was fertile, everything was good, and everyone lived in the same way until the outbreak of egoism.

That is why the wisdom of Kabbalah, revealed by Abraham, is based on the fact that people practically have to live the same way, satisfying their natural needs in the form that the body demands, that is, normally, rationally, and everything else, all the other forces, they should apply to ascend above their egoism.

Abraham spoke about the egoism that began to rise and grow rapidly. It drew someone into business and another one into something else. Everyone wanted to be more than the others, better than others, stronger, more important, and so on. “We must, on the contrary, remain at the same level,” Abraham said, “or, quite possibly, rise, but at the same time in order to improve our life, but equally in order to be a community, as a family.” People in a family care about everyone equally so that everyone has what he needs relative to his requirements, and, for all the rest, forces are to be applied only to rise above egoism. This attitude toward our development is the basis of Kabbalah.

However, the majority did not listen to Abraham and they followed the egoistic path of development with the exception of the group of people that he had gathered. It was ruled by the laws of bestowal. People provided each other with the necessary things, and at the same time, everyone ascended according to his abilities, and all the other forces were invested in being interconnected with others. If people act in this way, then the upper force of nature (we can call it the Creator) begins to be revealed in the relationships between them, and then they sense the next level of existence—not the still, vegetative, and animate nature that we feel today, constantly caring about the well-being of the body, its pleasures, satisfaction, comfort—but the next level.

This level is called the “human” or “Adam,” from the word “similar” (Domeh), similar to the Creator, to the upper force, the force of bestowal and love, which is actually inside nature that manages, drives, and develops it. This is what was discovered then and what was hidden for thousands of years and is beginning to be revealed again today.

The last Kabbalists of our time are Baal HaSulam, Rabash, you and me. Moreover, we are not just revealing it as they did. We are beginning to realize it, and, of course, the realization is carried out not from the level of ancient Babylon where people were like one family on the same level. Then, perhaps everything was simple but obviously further history was to be different.

Humanity needs to develop its egoism and develop it well up to the realization that it really is ruining us. Instead of all the goods that it had promised us, we find ourselves lost, defective, having achieved nothing. We try to live better and in the end spend all those years on this, all those opportunities that we have in this state, in our lives.

So today, we start with a completely different level, an egoistic, complete, final level of the world’s development. Actually, egoism will grow much more, but on the next level, people already will begin to be engaged in unity and proceed to the next stage of development.

The End Of The Era Of Unrestrained Consumption

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: We see tremendous efforts that America has taken in order to settle the situation in the Middle East and financial efforts (printing money) that are meant to stabilize the present system. But as it looks, it isn’t connected at all to change in man himself.

Answer: It isn’t connected because they don’t understand what they need to do. They don’t know nature’s plan. They have no concept of the system of integrality, and thus all their attempts bring and will bring only bigger and bigger developments of crisis. The attempts are produced because we will be breaking nature instead of correcting ourselves to match it. This is their mistake.

Question: But according to modern man’s perception, man himself is a closed system and it’s impossible to do anything with it. What is possible is to use this in some way as a buyer and make him work well.

Answer: It’s already impossible to do all of this. You can’t make buyers out of them. First of all, these relations are completely different than before. Secondly, in a person, the desires change not only in quantity, but also in quality. Today, it’s difficult to make people be crazy consumers, even if you require it from them through all the communication media and public relations. Gradually it’s ending since people change, since we develop, evolve.

During many thousands of years, we were realizing our infinite desires. And then afterwards, in the last 50 to 60 years, they taught us to build a society of unrestrained consumption: I work, I buy, I throw away, and again I work, buy, and throw away. What for? So that dollars will collect in someone’s bank account.

It’s now ending. You can’t require a man to work, to buy, and throw away and again work, buy and throw away. He has begun to be tired of this. His ego has begun to be processed, like everything is processed in nature, and to change qualitatively. Our next needs are found in another area.

A person is already tired of serving his body and running from store to store searching for what he saw yesterday on TV. Today, more meaningful desires awaken in him. We are slowly moving towards the next level. The question is asked, “Why do we exist?” And this is the next level of development.

And here you can’t bring satisfaction to people with new rags or the latest phones. You can’t because there is a time production through all means.
