The Children Of The Universe, Part 1

laitman_739Question: Let’s go out into open space, to the universe that actually gave us life. The universe is the system of creation that is made of matter and energy. It encompasses the world that we know including space and time.

The universe is dynamic and according to the Big Bang theory, it is developing from a starting point and is gradually expanding. Universal processes are billions of years old and are subject to the laws that modern science studies. On the whole, what can we extract from what we know about the universe?

Answer: First, by studying something we have to determine the essence of the researchers. The researcher is a person who is also part of nature, of the universe, of the global system.

We should understand the research tools that we have; it manifests our first mistake: we assume that we can study nature objectively.

But in the meantime, as we have already said, we are part of it, and are a quite defective and very subjective part. We value and praise what is good for us, and, on the other hand, underestimate and belittle what is bad for us. All this takes place in our subconscious.

Besides, we are very limited in our sensations, our feelings, and in our senses; we don’t know where they fail us and when they deceive us. We cannot perceive the mistakes that we make in our analytical attributes and our abilities to clarify and compare things. It isn’t in our power because we lack the criteria for examining things and simply have nothing with which to compare our mind and feelings.

If we are ready to at least acknowledge our limitations, it is a good thing. Since then we understand that there is nothing absolute in our perception and that we will never know and obtain the Absolute. Even if we can investigate something, it is only the levels below us: the still, vegetative, and animate. They aren’t as developed as we are and so we can study them to some extent.

On the other hand, we cannot study ourselves. It is because everything is attained only from a higher level. This is the only way we can attain the root, and accordingly we don’t know ourselves because our root, the power, the plan, is on a higher level than us. The reasons underlying our essence remain unattainable.

How Does One Sell Happiness?

laitman_228Question: When I look at my family and my immediate environment, I ask myself, “Is depression the result of a lack of desire to buy new things or is it created from a lack of money?”

It could be that if there were more money, happiness would return, and it would be possible to continue to celebrate purchases. However, I noticed something else: boredom.

Answer: The world doesn’t have the content that a person is looking for now. In the past, it was enough for us to see an interesting movie, have fun, and have guests. We lived in a more natural way and thought that this would go on.

However, the situation has changed. On the one hand, manufacturers don’t take into account the change in people. So, in fashion shows, designers invent costumes that are far from reality. This is a unique art through which they want to convey their views about a person’s individuality. Their examples are appropriate only for people who weigh ninety pounds, and are six and a half feet tall.

On the other hand, desires are changing fundamentally and have moved on to a new quality. Instead of money, respect, control, education, and even knowledge, a person now wants to know what he is living for. He apparently stops mid-life and begins to ponder things.

This desire comes from within; it is not because we suddenly become smarter or become philosophical. Nature changes us according to its program and thought, and we are not the masters of this.

We must see this trend, but we don’t have any possibility of changing, stopping, or slowing it down somehow. We must agree that this process will not only continue but also will expand. We will feel it more deeply and it will be difficult for us to resist it.

If we understand this from the start and react consciously, then the communications media and advertising gradually will change in the direction of greater flexibility. Then, they will go along with nature. In the opposite situation, they are like two trains, each going in the opposite direction.

We see that the world is returning to a natural form and contracting to its natural consumption. This is expressed more clearly in the financial sector. Paper money is losing its value. Everything is returning toward natural equality.

In other words, very soon, the level of our consumption will match exactly the amount of gold that we have. Then, it will be very important to understand what the new form of production and consumption will be.

We were educated by advertisements that things supposedly would make us beautiful, respected, and successful. This means that they were selling us pleasure, and what pleasures can be sold now for the new desire? It is pleasure from connection and unity! Clothe them in entertainment or creativity and a person will feel them as the source of his pleasure.

The Force Of Overcoming, Part 2

Dr. Michael Laitman

Question: It turns out that all the overcoming is in the desire that will win in me?

Answer: If my parents punish me, forcing me to do homework, my desire to avoid the blows becomes stronger than the desire to rest, and I go and do all that is required.

We always act according to our desire. The only question is whether it is my desire that obliges me to act or someone else’s desire. If this desire arises directly in me, then I realize it with pleasure and it does not require me to overcome anything.

If I see that the desire in not mine, then it is called coercion. In the end, I also perform the required act on my own accord by making the calculation that otherwise I would be punished or have no money for food. But this is someone else’s desire, not my true desire, that forces me to act, and that is why I do this without joy.

The action itself does not contain any overcoming! I always do everything according to the desire: either emerging in me or that presses and forces me. But, overcoming by myself is in obtaining good desires that are useful for me. So, I purposefully absorb them from the environment.

For example, my parents wanted me to become a musician. And so my father took me to watch movies about musicians. He wanted me to be inspired by their life, glory, and world fame, and he also wanted me to want to be like them. But the only thing I remembered from this, is that eventually they all ended their lives and died because I was a child of 6 – 7 years old.

Using these examples, my parents wanted to instill the desire to study music in me, but I did not absorb it and suffered much from studying at a music school. This shows that overcoming applies to a person who understands that he needs it. He has no choice, and thus he overcomes his original desire and acquires a new one.

From Advertisement To True Values

laitman_547_01Once it was enough for a craftsman to hang a sign above the place where he worked. People could obtain services they required according to a list of addresses in a city. However, today, they are forced upon us, raising their value from zero to the level required.

Today, society is arranged so that our necessities are met, and every thing else is artificially inflated consumption. This  approach is clearly not reasonable or correct, but it is presented to us through investments in advertising that total 50% or more of the price of the product.

For example, recently, I saw a television channel for dogs. It would be no wonder if pets sitting in front of the television were to begin making demands, like children, for the products that are advertised to them.

Speaking seriously, humanity has sunk into a depression under the influence of the general crisis. Therefore advertising will become more and more difficult. The frustrated person doesn’t want anything. He is offered all kinds of delicacies, but he cannot taste them because he doesn’t want anything.

This trend exacerbates the general economic crisis, and we see that the world is in a decline. Of course, the crisis has not appeared everywhere, mostly in developed nations. And where it there is a shortage of necessary goods, the situation is different.

So, entrepreneurs transfer their resources to the underdeveloped nations to ready a market for their goods. Advertising helps generate consumers, but not for long.

After a few years we will see that the world will be satiated and people will be disappointed with anything that isn’t a necessity. We already are seeing now that the value of anything that we don’t need has lessened.

If a person feels that he is missing something but doesn’t know exactly what, he will be satisfied with products necessary for existence and he won’t want to make the effort for anything else. So, advertising is experiencing a crisis.

However, we must understand that advertising is a communications tool. I would say that it is a weapon of communication, a tool for communication between people. Now it influences individuals, because as yet, its purpose isn’t understood.

But if ever attention is paid to its primary job  (the creation of connections between people), then its influence will be educational: the advertisement of true values.

The Sinking Of The Consumerist Society

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt was only about 100 to 150 years ago that the upper classes of society began to eradicate ignorance at a time when most people were illiterate. Why did they do that? The elite needed manpower, so they taught the simple folks and brought them to a level where they could use them.

At first it was enough for them to know how to read and write and then also read drawings etc. Schools emerged in the form of a general education system that included elementary schools, high schools, and institutions of higher education.

This meant that influential people were interested in creating a middle class. They believed that educated people understand the benefit of the upper class and the latter could count on them. They could give the upper class advice and carry out their orders while they managed them from above. The middle class could convey tasks to the workers and to the simple folks in a language that they could understand.

That period is coming to an end because the world no longer needs anything that is redundant. We don’t know why this is happening this way, but it stems from human nature. We once logically thought that the desire to make more money, buy more, and become more successful was limitless. But suddenly we see that the consumerist society balloon is losing air. Therefore, if people who manage the media can do anything, it is only in order to lead a new global approach.

The upper classes today not only need people whom they have taught how to read and write and learn sciences and who can help them double their assets, but this elite class and the media they own that serves their interests, need to know that it is actually the integral education of all mankind that will be beneficial for them.

If the world is actually closed, round, and integral, everyone should participate in it correctly. Modern man should know the reason for which he is living, what his nature is, what the nature of the whole world and of all of humanity in which he exists is. He also needs to know according to which laws he lives, how these laws affect him, and how he has to affect them.

Just as we invested time in teaching hundreds of thousands of farmers to read and write during the industrial and technological era, we must take care that all are fed, clothed, and provided with integral education.

These are the three essential things a person needs, including health care, of course. I would get rid of everything else since anything that doesn’t stem from the right connection that leads to harmony with nature, undoubtedly leads us to a downfall.

The Force Of Overcoming, Part 1

Laitman_514_02Question: Our life requires us to continually overcome our desires, fears, anger, and crises in finance, personal and family life. This struggle begins with birth.

While being born, a baby already has to overcome much pressure and stress in order to emerge, and the mother also needs to overcome the pain to deliver it.

So it continues throughout human life from early infancy. As he develops, the child is forced to overcome physical and psychological difficulties. Even to get to his feet and learn to walk, he is required to overcome a lot.

In this manner, it continues to the end of his life: kindergarten, school, education, marriage, family, children, and work. Our entire life is a continuous strip of difficulties and overcoming them, from which it is impossible to escape. Why is our life is arranged this way?

Answer: Indeed, our life is a continuous chain of overcoming, and when a person runs out of the power to overcome, he dies. All of life is a struggle. The very process of human birth is the first overcoming. The baby must breathe, expand his lungs and take in air. This is his first action in this world from which continuous breathing begins: the compression and expansion of the lungs.

These actions, pulsations, comprise our entire life: breathing, heartbeat, and metabolism. These processes occur in us unconsciously, instinctively, at the order of nature. The same thing is happening in every state on a conscious level where my desire acts. Indeed, I must survive, and my life is in this overcoming.

If I want to live, I must overcome myself in each case more and more. Our nature is complete egoism that seeks only rest, but “rest” means not just to lie, but to do only what we want.

To do what I want, I do not want to use energy, spiritual energy. Although, I spend a huge amount of calories as a child running around the room, unable to stop. For him it is rest.

We tell him, “Stop running, sit and rest!” However, he does not understand what we say because he is resting by jumping and bustling. In other words, overcoming is simply not possible to measure by an external view of a person. If a person overcomes his desire and does something against it, it is called overcoming.

Since we are created from the egoistic material, the desire to enjoy, then we are drawn to pleasures all the time. If I am enjoying, it does not matter whether I am running or lying, I am resting.

The question is what should I do to act against my desire: get out of bed, go to work, work hard, carry heavy things from one place to another, make money, bring it home and feed myself and my family?

Of course, this is not consistent with my desire, so how do I overcome myself? I do this for several reasons. Either society or parents oblige me to go to school to study, then get married, start a family, and work. My parents’ and society’s desire is stronger than mine, and that is why I comply.

Or, I suddenly find myself in an environment that affects me and changes my desire. For example, my parents sent me to a children’s sports program. Before that, I did not like sports, but, looking at my playmates, I began to envy them, got impressed. Friends pass me their desire, and instead of sitting at the computer, I begin to run and play sports with them.

It turns out that I can take desires and needs from the environment. Thus, I change my desire for a greater one acquired from the environment, from friends, and I can commit myself to such actions that I previously did not think about at all.

Does The World Need A New Einstein?

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe cannot develop individually, either as individual countries or as unions of several countries against other unions. Before our eyes, Americans lose country after country, and Europeans descend from the pedestal of greatness, tradition, wealth, and culture.

Russia, with its many natural resources sustains itself exclusively by trading weapons and oil. China wakes up a little and falls again. Japan has been stagnating for decades after a boom that it experienced twenty years ago.

So are all the countries. Some are experiencing this today, others went through this yesterday, and others will feel it tomorrow. There is no doubt about it. Moreover, if earlier the rhythm of changes had stretched for tens and even hundreds of years, today, each step takes much less time and has a new quality.

This applies to all people, both grownups and children. Young people do not want to get married, raise a family and have children. Adults do not know how to manage because nothing is successful even if they want something. Due to inertia, everyone continues to play the same game but feel that it is just a waste of time. The bank is empty; there is no meaning in the game.

Previously, philosophers and politicians guided us, as it happened for several hundreds of years. There were many people like that. They were respected and listened to, including the media. Today, no one rises and doesn’t try to rise to this Olympus. We would like to see a clairvoyant, scholar, or ruler, like Churchill, Roosevelt, or Einstein. However, they do not exist and this is very much felt! Humanity feels like a child who was forgotten.

The previous forms of perception were based on the fact that the human being brought the world to order, established society, and supposedly ruled. However, it was not he who did it, but nature revealed evolutionary development in him. Now, nature shows the human being that he, himself, must seek a central component of development: What do we exist for? Without this component, we will not know how to arrange our lives.

We were given feelings and mind from nature so that we receive instructions from it, process them and add to them. Obviously, if we find the correct goal, we will have enough energy and knowledge to live and develop so much that we again will get fulfillment, aspiration, contentment, and the need for life. As in the past, a person lived by what was burning in him: money, power, honor, knowledge, sex, and family. So, now, this goal must pull him, replacing all the voids. Without this, we will simply be a “nursing home.”

When we realize that we live within the sphere of nature that affects us, we will see that we have become an integral society in which everyone depends on each other. It is clear to many people, but they do not know what to do with this. Whatever we touch, everything turns into evil for us.

The fact is that, in a global world, any action inconsistent with the general system—a person, humanity, nature—brings harm. Therefore, first, we need to learn how to operate, manage, or at least to exist comfortably, safely, for themselves and for others. Once we get down to it, we will feel a positive response from the very first action.

Nature Is Not A Resource For The Ego

Laitman_720Question: Let’s talk about trips to nature, including going abroad to nature preserves and all kinds of remote corners. The modern urban person at least somehow tries to connect with nature and receive pleasure from it. How do you relate to that?

Answer: I travel around the world a lot and always try to keep a few moments for myself to be in nature. My teacher Rabash and I would leave the city each day to talk while walking through the woods and fields. On the way to Jerusalem, far from highways and people, we would happen upon very beautiful places.

When I go out into nature I see there a world of reciprocal complementarity of all its parts. I see that everything in it is in balance except for humans. Even though there are animal species that eat each other, even though one exists at the expense of the other, all of this is out of necessity and not out of malice. The general form of existence and development is like this.

When I am in nature I feel the power of nature. It doesn’t elevate, It doesn’t raise us; on the contrary, it controls us. We humans don’t perceive this. The nature of the still, vegetative, and animate is the “envelope” of our existence: On the one hand, we move away from it, but, on the other hand, we must approach it by understanding that it is all a general system that must be unified.

Indeed the ego, the evil inclination, develops within us. It is specifically this that separates us from the animal world. As a result, we raise ourselves above it through the evil force of subjugation. We become distant from nature and want to control it to exploit it at any price. Worse than this, we value the damage that we cause nature through our activities; we are not concerned about it but only about our personal future. This is not at all the accounting that is required of us.

This is because our role is to maintain the harmony of nature, which is inherent in it from the start. But we fell from this because the egoistic desire grew in us, which invited all kinds of conflicts and compels us to engage in an incessant struggle between us.

And this is also how we relate to nature: “What can be stolen from it, what possible enjoyment can be had from it?” We don’t care what happens after that. The main thing is to get what we require at this very second. Even though in the next moment the coming damage will be maifested, we don’t pay attention to this.

So it follows that the growth of the evil inclination summons a destructive attitude in humans, which is harmful to us and all other parts of nature. As a result, humans must become aware of our evil and understand that our egoistic approach is damaging the entire system. The main conclusion is that a person grows within the evil inclination in order to correct it, to correct his relationship to the still, vegetative, and animate nature; and to complement the entire system, he must transform it into a single, unified, wonderful, harmonious, integral system.

And conversely, if together with the development of the mind and feelings, a person uses his resources incorrectly, ultimately he will certainly stumble into natural disasters.

This is what will continue to happen to us as long as we don’t see that our ego has grown to such a scale that it is no longer possible to rein it in. We have dropped the “reins” of the management of the world from our hands, losing control in all areas: family, work, and the relation to nature in general… .

And since we have become a bad global factor for nature and since we are a single system, in reaction, nature has begun to reveal an appropriate attitude to us.

This is the situation today.

All Together At The Point Of The Big Bang

laitman_933Question: What is the connection between relationships among people and relationships among viruses?

Answer: All of nature is like one soup in which all of us are cooking together, regardless of whether they are large bodies or tiny viruses. Everything that happens in the soup is transmitted to everything found within it: to stones, to plants, to animals, and to people.

This is a global, integral system. A global world means that there are an infinite number of mutual connections; everyone is connected to all the rest. They say that you communicate with all of humanity through five people you know. But the threads that connect them in every possible form, stretching from one to another, are not just between people, but are between all of the components of nature in general.

The entire universe emerged from the point of the “Big Bang,” from one source, and it began to expand and develop. And all of us have remained connected with each other since then. These are like spider webs in which there is not a single atom or elementary particle that isn’t connected with all of creation.

We must take this into account and inform the younger generation, specifically providing them with this view of the world. Otherwise we can’t expect a good life for them in this era of globalization.

Question: What does each person need to understand to be able to pass through this period successfully?

Answer: It is necessary to understand that I am living in a system in which I am linked with everyone and everyone is linked with me with such tight connections, like iron bars, that my slightest movement causes shifts throughout the system on all levels. A person doesn’t understand this and thinks that he is isolated from all the others. But that is impossible.

Everything came from a higher source where the universe came into existence, from the point of the Big Bang. After that it spread out, reaching every level. We must take this into account and understand that it is as if we are found in the very point itself of the Big Bang.

Periodic Table Of Nature

Laitman_709Question: Since the ‘30s of the previous century, the world has become one big village and from that time should we have related to humanity as one family, with one government, with one world “Ministry of Health”?

Answer: It should have been done even before then, from the ‘20s! World War I was a reaction to our disregard for the general system that connects everyone together.

It is not important that there are regions in South America, Africa, and Asia where they live as if it were a thousand years ago. In a family there are both adults and children, less developed and more developed according to age. But our attitude towards everyone must be equal.

Such unity should have been reached by humanity at the beginning of the 20th century, but was not. And so it got the first and second world wars and today’s Ebola epidemic.

Question: And if we relate to the whole world as one family, would the virus not spread? How is this connected, and how does the system work in relationships between people, countries, and nations? How does the Ebola virus know when it needs to spread and when not to?

Answer: A viral epidemic is the result of an imbalance. We violate the balance in the system, and on every one of its levels some kind of deviation from the balance that we must forcibly reconcile appears. In order to forcibly reconcile the lack of balance and restore the system to a state of balance, the Ebola epidemic has broken out.

The human level is above the entire system, this being the relationship between individual people, nations, and countries. And its highest stratum is determined by balance among the people of Israel.

Israel is found at the highest part of the human pyramid in the sense that it is inside of it and requires balance first; particularly in the State of Israel balance is required. And so the removal of imbalance and accordingly the Ebola plague is primarily dependent upon the people of Israel.

Question: What is not clear is what the relationship is between the upper level, where we communicate with each other as one family or as strangers, and somewhere below how it is infested with viruses?

Answer: Well, this is a unified system that includes within it all of the levels of the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking. All of nature is a single system outside of which there is nothing.

Nature includes various levels of matter, beginning from the still, where atoms connect with each other and form the chemical elements: carbon, oxygen, copper, silver, gold and the like. After that comes the vegetative level with the myriad of different plants, then the animate level, and then the human level.

The human level does not refer to a bipedal mammal, rather it refers to human intelligence, knowledge, evolution, and consciousness that allows him to see that he belongs entirely to a single system. Man begins from his determining that he is found within a single unified system of nature and depends upon everything and everything depends upon him.

He sees that he perceives a higher level and through his behavior and relationship with people he determines everything that happens to all the rest of the levels of nature.

When he ascends and descends, the human raises and lowers the entire still, vegetative, and animate nature along with him.
