From “Who Are You, People of Israel”

As the world groans under the pressure of two conflicting forces—the global force of connection and the separating power of the ego, we are falling into the state that existed in ancient Babylon prior to the dispersion. Alas, today we cannot draw apart and sedate our egos. Our only option is to work on our positive force that balances the negative power of our ego.

The people of Israel, descendants of the ancient Babylonians who followed Abraham, must implement the wisdom of connection, namely the wisdom of Kabbalah. They are required to set an example to the whole of humanity, and thus become a “Light for the nations.”

The Key to Happiness

The laws of Nature dictate that we will all achieve a state of unity. However, there are two ways we can come to that happy end: 1) a path of world suffering, wars, catastrophes, plagues, and natural disasters, or 2) a path of gradual balancing of the ego, the path that Abraham planted in his disciples. The latter is the one we suggest.

Question: The military operation, “Protective Edge,” and all the events related to it evoked a special feeling of connection in the Israeli nation. The Israeli nation unites every time we encounter an emergency, but this time the connection that was felt was extraordinary and especially strong and unprecedented.

It affected everyone, including small children and the elderly. There is a picture of a tank covered with children’s drawings that were sent to the soldiers. Strangers visited the wounded soldiers, helped their families, and sent packages to the front. There has never been an expression of mutual help on such a scale. What is the special feeling that awakened in the Israeli nation during this war?

Answer: There is a special concealed force in the Israeli nation, and I have even seen references to it in books and movies by directors who are not Israeli. There is a certain preparation for self-sacrifice in the Jewish people. It can be expressed in their attitude to science, to a particular profession, or to a certain matter. A person feels that he must devote himself totally to a certain idea. Although this phenomenon exists in every nation, it is still expressed more uniquely among the Jews. They express their loyalty, their connection, to the extent of self-sacrifice whenever they have an opportunity to do so.

A person doesn’t look for any reward and doesn’t care whether others know about his actions, talks about him, or remembers him as a hero. The readiness for self-sacrifice that stems from the history of the Jewish people suddenly awakens in a person.

We were connected in the past in the days of the First and Second Temples (which symbolize a whole vessel, one soul). This connection created a very deep, eternal connection that nourishes and fills us to this day. It invokes in us the special feeling between the individual and the nation of Israel, even if he were to do everything in his power to detach himself from the entire nation and escape to a remote place at the ends of the earth so that no one would know that he is a Jew, so that he would forget it and be like everyone else. However, he cannot do that since the connections between us are above this world and are on the level of the upper world. Thus, a person cannot cease to be Jewish, even if he may want to.

This connection is expressed even after several generations when the person, himself, doesn’t know that he is Jewish. I have met many such people. Especially in Spain and Portugal, I often meet people who claim they are not Jewish by birth, but that they feel they belong to the Jewish nation. They are the descendants of the converts who were forced to give up the Jewish religion under the threat of the expulsion from Spain, but the connection to the Jewish people still lives inside them.

It is a natural phenomenon that stems from the system of reality. The connection was gradually created on a very high spiritual level when everyone was connected in the state of one man in one heart, in one soul. The connection imprinted within us a special spiritual gene on a higher level than we are today, on the human level.

Therefore, we cannot break this connection because it is unchangeable, but only can be reconstructed. Thus, we wake up today as a result of different problems and troubles and return to the state of the internal connection.

There is no choice. We are connected, and fate, the Creator, awakens us. We have had enough pressures on the corporeal level—where we live on the animate level—and the feeling of the presence of the human level immediately awakens in us on a different, higher level. This is the level we were during the connection and  to which we can now return.

This internal connection exists among all the Jews and even in all the lost tribes of the time of the First Temple. There are many people in the world who belong to those lost tribes. The bodies are not reincarnated, but the soul remains the same soul. There is the same connection between us that is concealed, most internal, eternal, spiritual, and most sublime.

Who Are You, People of Israel?

Time and again, Jews are persecuted and terrorized. Being Jewish myself, I often ponder the purpose of this relentless agony. Some believe that the atrocities of WWII are unimaginable today. And yet, we see how easily and abruptly the state of mind preceding the Holocaust is re-emerging, and “Hitler was right” shouts are sounded all too often and all too openly.

But there is hope. We can reverse this trend, and all it requires is that we become aware of the bigger picture.

Where We Are and Where We Come From

Humanity is at a crossroads. Globalization has made us interdependent, while people are growing increasingly hateful and alienated. This unsustainable, highly flammable situation requires making a decision about humanity’s future direction. Yet to understand how we, the Jewish people, are involved in this scenario, we need to go back to where it all began.

The people of Israel emerged some 4,000 years ago in ancient Babylon. Babylon was a thriving civilization whose people felt connected and united. In the words of the Torah, “The whole earth was of one language and of one speech” (Genesis, 11:1).

But as their ties grew stronger, so did their egos. They began to exploit, and finally hate one another. So while the Babylonians felt connected, their intensifying egos made them increasingly alienated from each other. Caught between a rock and a hard place, the people of Babylon began to seek out a solution to their plight.

Two Solutions to the Crisis

The search for a solution led to forming two conflicting views. The first, suggested by Nimrod, king of Babylon, was natural and instinctive: Dispersion. The king argued that when people are far from one another, they do not quarrel.

The second solution was suggested by Abraham, then a renowned Babylonian sage. He argued that according to Nature’s law, human society is destined to become united, and therefore strove to unite the Babylonians despite, and atop their growing egos.

Succinctly, Abraham’s method was a way to connect people above their egos. When he began to advocate his method among his countryfolk, “thousands and tens of thousands assembled around him, and … He planted this tenet in their hearts,” writes Maimonides (Mishneh Torah, Part 1). The rest of the people chose Nimrod’s way: dispersion, as do quarrelsome neighbors when they try to stay out of each other’s way. These dispersed people gradually became what we now know as “human society.”

Only today, some 4,000 years down the line, we can begin to assess whose way was right.

The Basis of the People of Israel

Nimrod forced Abraham and his disciples out of Babylon, and they moved to what later became known as “the land of Israel.” They worked on unity and cohesion in accord with the tenet, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” connected above their egos, and thus discovered “the force of unity,” Nature’s hidden power.

Every substance consists of two opposite forces, connection and separation, which balance themselves out. But human society is evolving using only the negative force—the ego. According to Nature’s plan, we are required to consciously balance the negative force with the positive one—unity. Abraham discovered the wisdom that enables balance, and today we refer to his wisdom as, “the wisdom of Kabbalah.”

Israel Means Straight to the Creator

Abraham’s disciples called themselves Ysrael (Israel) after their desire to go Yashar El (straight to G-d, the Creator). That is, they wished to discover Nature’s force of unity so as to balance the ego that stood between them. Through their unity, they found themselves immersed in the force of unity, the upper, root force of reality.

In addition to their discovery, Israel also learned that in the process of human development, the rest of the Babylonians—who followed Nimrod’s advice, dispersed throughout the world, and have become today’s humanity—would also have to achieve unity. That contradiction between the people of Israel, which formed through unity, and the rest of humanity, which formed as a result of separation, is felt even today.

Exile

Abraham’s disciples, the people of Israel, experienced many internal struggles. But for 2,000 years their unity prevailed and was the key element that held them together. Indeed, their conflicts were meant only to intensify the love among them.

However, approximately 2,000 years ago, their egos reached such intensity that they could not maintain their unity. Unfounded hatred and egotism erupted among them and inflicted exile on them. Indeed, Israel’s exile, more than it is exile from the physical land of Israel, is exile from unity. The alienation within the Israeli nation caused them to disperse among the nations.

Back to the present, today humanity is in a state similar to the one the ancient Babylonians experienced: interdependence alongside alienation. Because we are completely interdependent in our global village, Nimrod’s solution of parting ways is no longer practical. Now we are required to use Abraham’s method. This is why the Jewish people, who previously implemented Abraham’s method and connected, must rekindle their unity and teach the method of connection to the whole of humanity. And unless we do it of our own accord, the nations of the world will compel us to do it, by force.

On that note, it is interesting to read the words of Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motor Company, and a notorious anti-Semite, in his book, The International Jew — The World’s Foremost Problem: “Society has a large claim against him [the Jew] that he … begin to fulfill … the ancient prophecy that through him all the nations of the earth should be blessed.”

The Roots of Anti-Semitism

After thousands of years of exerting to build a successful human society using Nimrod’s method, the nations of the world are beginning to understand that the solution to their problems is neither technological, nor economic or militaristic. Subconsciously, they feel that the solution lies in unity, that the method of connection exists in the people of Israel, and therefore recognize that they are dependent on the Jews. This makes them blame the Jews for every problem in the world, believing that the Jews possess the key to the world’s happiness.

Indeed, when the Israeli nation fell from its moral apex of love of others, hatred of Israel among the nations commenced. And thus, through anti-Semitism, the nations of the world prod us to disclose the method of connection. Rav Kook, the first Chief Rabbi of Israel, pointed to that fact with his words, “Amalek, Hitler, and so forth, awaken us toward redemption” (Essays of the Raiah, Vol. 1).

But the people of Israel are unaware that they are holding the key to the world’s happiness, and that the very source of anti-Semitism is that the Jews are carrying within them the method of connection, the key to happiness, the wisdom of Kabbalah, but are not revealing it to all.

Mandatory Disclosure of the Wisdom

Unity Is the Solution

It is written in The Book of Zohar, “Everything stands on love” (Portion, VaEtchanan). “Love your neighbor as yourself” is the great tenet of the Torah; it is also the essence of the change that the wisdom of Kabbalah is offering humanity. It is the obligation of the Jewish People to unite in order to share the method of Abraham with the entire human race.

According to Rav Yehuda Ashlag, author of the Sulam (Ladder) commentary on The Book of Zohar, “It is upon the Israeli nation to qualify itself and all the people of the world … to develop until they take upon themselves that sublime work of the love of others, which is the ladder to the purpose of Creation.” If we accomplish this, we will find solutions to all the world’s problems including the eradication of anti-Semitism.

The entire method about which the Torah speaks, from the first Adam (man) until entering the land of Israel, is the process within a group of Kabbalists who discover the evil within the group while working on the spiritual connection between them. From then on, only good is discovered.

The discovery of evil is all the hatred that separates people and is discovered to the degree that they want to connect. However, now instead of quarreling over various insipid matters, if humanity would want to connect, it would not need to discover the evil. All of their evil is found within the people of Israel. Therefore, the nations of the world cannot correct this evil alone. They do this with the help of the people of Israel and reach correction all at once.

After all, if the true evil of the ego were revealed in them at the moment that they begin to connect, the world would be drowning in evil. They really would be devouring each other down to the bone. So, the work of connection was given only to the people of Israel who are called the “stiff-necked people.”

The people of Israel do the work of connection and transform themselves into a “glue” that can connect all of humanity. They work together with the nations of the world, but their evil inclination is not revealed in this work.

This is an interesting concept. After all, the evil inclination is specifically revealed at the time of connection between people, and we need to work with that. The Torah tells us about this in all the stages of the wilderness. In other words, they are the stages of revealing the ego that is gradually discovered and corrected. It seems as if the children of Israel were wrong, transgressed, and violated the commands of the Creator. However, it is precisely in this way that they corrected themselves and prepared themselves for entry into the land of Israel.

After their entry into the land of Israel, they still needed to conquer it, but this was already a different war, which was the conquest of the nations in the land of Israel: This was the use of the ego through the power of bestowal that they previously acquired. However, in our day, in order to correct the entire human ego, it is necessary to conquer the entire world by means of the power of bestowal. The nations of the world are not obligated to fight with their evil inclination.

The whole Torah talks about the discovery of evil that is revealed through the inclination to connect. This is similar to what a young couple does when they go through all kinds of conflicts when they try to get along in their shared life. They communicate more and more through a shared kitchen, bedroom, living room, house chores, work, a joint bank account, and spare time.

Before then, they would meet somewhere from time to time, and this didn’t obligate them to do anything. Suddenly, they have lots of reasons to connect, and so the evil inclination is revealed in them.

The entire world now feels like a pair of newlyweds. So, it requires a method, the wisdom of connection, which is the wisdom of Kabbalah. This is required everywhere; in our time there is no possibility of connecting in any other way.

Why are people not ready to connect today? Why do so many couples divorce? It is because not only is the ego revealed but also the true evil inclination. This is because humanity must now be connected all over the globe and on all levels. So, everyone will be required to know the wisdom of Kabbalah that teaches how to overcome the evil inclination.

When you want to connect with your child, you must know how to do this, specifically with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah. You need to learn to attract the Light that Reforms otherwise you won’t have a connection with your children. Today, parents lose connection with their children who reach adolescence around the age of 13, and, in another decade, this connection will already be weakened by the age of seven or eight, and even earlier.

Today, at the age of three or four, children begin to feel completely independent. For them, a parent is simply a tool for attaining a goal, which is the fulfillment of their desires and no more. Problems of this type will appear everywhere. It is impossible to attain connection without the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Everywhere that people try to connect, in the workplace or at home, they will discover their evil inclination. They will want to connect more and will not be ready for it. So, they will divorce. Even the terrorists are divided and are not ready to connect into one gang. There are so many groups and so many factions among them! The separation will keep on growing everywhere. Soon, everyone will sit in his house with a rifle, and that’s it.

The friends in a group of Kabbalists consciously work on the connection between them. Therefore, all of these phenomena become expressed among them in a very clear and obvious form. However, Kabbalists have the tools for working against their ego, against separation, and against hatred. The friends perform the role of the people of Israel, regarding all of the children of Israel, just as all the people of Israel do with respect to all of humanity. So, all of the people of Israel must work like a group of Kabbalists with respect to the whole world.

Question: How can we pass through those situations that are expected for the world in the near future without suffering?

Answer: The only method is through attracting the Upper Light. You cannot do anything else. So we are going on the way of “I will hasten it,” meaning in the way of the Light. Otherwise there will be continuous suffering or an imbalance in a ratio of 90% suffering and 10% Light.

Look at what is happening with us in Israel, which is a case in point of too little Light and much suffering. Everyone endures suffering, both Israelis and Arabs. In such a manner, we are bringing the nation into a state that is not good.

Question: The most important part of correction is the people of Israel living in the territory of this nation. All of Bnei Baruch is working for the sake of its unity. And what is our role? What must we be involved with here if the correction begins from there? What should our efforts be?

Answer: All of the groups in the world, including the groups in Israel, are connected into one system. The attraction of the Light into our world depends on our common efforts. First of all, the Light works through us downward, and after that, through the people of Israel. The whole problem is that we must consolidate it, but this is a very complicated task. After that, through the people of Israel, the Light will pass to the rest of the world.

We must try to work with these three levels, connecting together as much as possible. There are many resources here that have not been utilized, and if we realize them correctly, there won’t be suffering in the world.

Question: What was happening in the days of the Temples? Why did they have to be destroyed?

Answer: First of all, why do the Jews unite? Through their correction, they establish relationships among themselves which will allow them to fulfill the condition of “love thy neighbor as thyself.”

To achieve the state in which the Creator will be fully revealed, they must create a single soul and a single desire.

Through  their internal unity, they built the first Temple within themselves. However, this state exists only for a moment and then immediately begins to break down, step by step.

The process is that at first, there is a slow ascent to the “bar” of the desired state, and once it has been reached and becomes manifested, the descent begins immediately.

Question: So, the method of Abraham has achieved its own result and raised people to the desired height?

Answer: Yes. There was contact between the entire nation and the Creator, based on mutual love, during which the nation reached the state of complete individual correction. This is the building of the first Temple.

When a state is realized, the people have nothing to do and no reason to exist at this level, since it exists for only a moment. The Light comes, fills the vessel, and that is all.

Then this state must disappear. Indeed, the process goes on until this handful of people, that has become the nation of Israel, corrects the whole of humanity. Therefore, an entirely new perspective is revealed before them.

The ultimate goal is not the construction of the First Temple, but in the complete correction of all of humanity. This is what Abraham said in Babylon even when he was the only one who knew about this.

But today the Jews say: “Please, leave us alone! What chosen people!? We want to be like everyone else!”

However, they will be compelled. We see that they will be forced,  just as they were then.

Question: Abraham’s group, with their law of love for the other as for oneself, “went” through all the generations in Egypt. They experienced it, got out, stood around Mount Sinai, and became a nation. At the time, where was the group of Nimrod, meaning the rest of humanity, Babylon?

Answer: In the meantime, people gradually dispersed and settled. Kabbalah and the Torah do not study this because they are engaged in the spiritual elevation of man, and this is happening on the same earthly level. All this is described well in Flavius Josephus’ The Antiquities of the Jews.

Question: Let’s go back to the people of Israel, which came into its own “land,” in the egoistic layers of its own desire. How did they begin to process this egoism?

Answer: It was not easy. Firstly, they did not know how to alter it or how to begin to work on it.

They did not have Moses with them. There were no Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. And here  began a different control of the people.

Basically, it was a kingdom. All kinds of frictions arose between them that were not described in the Torah, but in the Prophets and then in the Scriptures. They chose where to build the Temple, meaning where there was a suitable place for the sum of their spiritual desires. But we are not talking about geography, simply this process described in geographical terms.

The twelve tribes began to divide the land among them. There was a condition under which the two tribes should live beyond the Jordan where today’s Jordan is located because it was supposed to be according to the plan of the common soul on earth.

In general, there is a human nature (the soul), as well as animate, vegetative, and still. All these levels are projected on top of each other, and all are built on the same parallel principle. When the human nature begins to be manifested in us, meaning similarity to the Creator, according to this spiritual move, we also change the place of residence. In general, everything changes in us, and we do not even notice how much we change. This happens instinctively, as if by itself. Thus, we begin to explore and discover how we now need to exist.

Question: Do they continue living by the principle of love for the other as for oneself?

Answer: Of course! They continue, deepening it further. This means populating and developing of the land of Israel because the land means desire. Thus, they move forward.

But the matter is not that they divide the land between themselves. In the sources it is described how every tribe settles on its land, where it should be. The borders and clear distribution between them are described. The tribes cannot be mixed with each other because the common desire, the common soul is divided into four levels according to three lines. Hence, (4 x 3) twelve parts, the twelve tribes appeared, which must fully match their purposes, from the spiritual to the earthly level, so that they are exactly and identically added to each other according to these levels and even follow each other in a parallel manner.

Question: So, the correction of the world begins here with this small area, on which the twelve tribes are “laid?”

Answer: Yes. What is interesting is that it is said that later, at the end of the days, all of humanity becomes attached to these twelve tribes (ten of which were lost but will return). Then everything becomes clear because the modern Babylon turns into one whole, and the twelve tribes appear again in order to spread throughout the earth. That is, the “land of Israel,” like La Peau de Chagrin “stretches” throughout the entire globe, not physically of course, but internally.

Thus, this is the process of the correction of the huge layers of still, vegetative, and animate and, in general, human egoism, which is already covered, fused in one whole, and spread over the entire earth in a form that is presented to us today. As a result, from a small point, a new world is formed, with a new intention, and an aspiration “straight to the Creator,” Yashar-El, Israel.

When we speak about the sources of the wisdom of Kabbalah, the civilization and the Jewish people, we should understand that it isn’t about history or philosophy but about real matters that are directly connected to our life and to our wellbeing. The processes that started in ancient Babylon are now coming to their inevitable end.

During that crisis, there were two men, or rather two thinkers, two rulers—material and spiritual—Nimrod and Abraham. They were teachers, leaders of their generation, who symbolized two approaches of evolution, the two currents in humanity. What is more, Terah, Abraham’s father was Nimrod’s spiritual mentor.

First, Abraham belonged to Nimrod’s stream, until he discovered the system that governs creation. Therefore, he broke away from his father and became the opposition to his father Terah and Nimrod.

Nimrod believed that we have to use our ego as much as possible while keeping the public order but allowing competition. Even though there was virtually no competition in ancient Babylon, the ego suddenly erupted and surged in each and everyone there and in all of them together. Nimrod suggested using it in order to compete, to develop and use it to reach new heights and to rejoice at its growth.

However, in order to get along with one another, they had to disperse a bit, like residents of a collective apartment who leave it and move into private homes; then everyone is happy and even remains in touch, although previously they didn’t speak to each other for years, didn’t say hello to one another, etc.

Nimrod is the recognition that there is an ego that keeps us apart. “Well, if the ego separates us, let’s separate.” It is very logical, very corporeal. This is Nimrod’s position.

Abraham’s position was totally different: There is no need to separate, but rather to connect, and then in the right mutual connection we will find the way to the next state, to a state that is really called Adam (a human being), stemming from the Hebrew word “Domeh,” to resemble the upper nature.

We will bring humanity to homeostasis, to harmony with all of nature not only with our nature. We will establish harmony between us and include the ego in it (after all we cannot escape it), so that we will include it correctly, work above it, and use it correctly, meaning not for the sake of competition but for the connection between us against our self-love that separates us.

Here we use a totally different method and activate forces that are opposite in nature: plus and minus, attraction, and repulsion, etc. We balance the two opposite forces with one another and eventually discover a totally new existence, which is altruistic not egoistic. We create it by ourselves, above our ego with its help. Therefore, the ego is called help against. That is what Abraham said.

On the whole, Nimrod offered a partial solution: that we draw away from each other a bit, that we compete against each other and live a good life, etc. At the same time, we crowd the earth and multiply since the ego turns in different directions: we want more children; we want to build more, to create more to conquer more, etc. Thus, the ego leads a person from a small home in the village to domination, conquests, and so on.

But that is still not the solution to the problem but simply the fulfillment of what awakens in me now, meaning the impulses and the egoistic forces that are concealed in me. Therefore, it is not a global solution, not the exit to the next level of existence; it doesn’t look to the future.

On the other hand, Abraham doesn’t prove his approach. His proof is only logical while Nimrod’s is practical. Nimrod is materialistic while Abraham is actually an idealist to a certain extent. He claims that if we ascend above the ego, we will reach the next level of existence. Our whole civilization can ascend to this level.

However, the ego that is being revealed in us now and which separates us from the corporeal existence cannot be used as we are accustomed to because eventually we will only harm one another when we have to really come together. When we gather, we will be like the greatness of nature that is totally global, integral, and in complete harmony.

The general nature and its one force is called our Creator. To the extent that we resemble this immense creation and this force, we will begin to reveal it and to adapt ourselves to it, to connect, to resemble it, and to get close to it. Then we will really begin to feel the world we are living in, the small earth and the relations between us, and to ascend upwards to a new dimension.

Question: What Nimrod says makes sense and everyone sees it. It is possible to feel it. If we separate we will really be better off. Today each of us lives in his own country, in his own home, in his own corner, and we like it. So who are the strange people who followed Abraham?

Answer: Imagine that there are those who feel they lack something in the egoistic evolution and are not satisfied by it. The ego, which is concealed in the few who join Abraham, tells them: you should go out and attain, conquer, develop…but upward. This means not in the corporeal sense, but in knowing who you are, where you come from, and what you are living for.

I want to move forward on the timeline and to know what is beyond the world we are living in. I want to understand where all this comes from and where I can get to in the end.

The point is not to develop the desires that are in me at the moment. Suppose I develop them and have a villa instead of a small apartment and become a great scientist, a first class expert and all that it involves… I see this picture and it isn’t enough.

Question: This means that you see the people who refused to follow the simple materialistic logic as wise people who can see what the future holds.

Answer: They don’t only see the future like Nimrod, whose decision postponed their coping with the problem for thousands of years. It is about people with a different egoistic desire, who understand why the other people follow Nimrod, but they have to find an answer to the question about the meaning of life. They are not interested in living a better life but in the meaning of life and what the point is in everything that they do.

If this question is not resolved, I simply have no powers to act. When there is no meaning, this life doesn’t interest me. It is tasteless and meaningless and there are no aspirations. “So I will study and work and provide for myself somehow…,” but this is actually a state of depression. I have to know what I need all this for. The end of my life, which is supposed to be in another thirty or fifty years, is here now and I care about what is beyond that. In other words, I have a global feeling in my ego that is not limited by ordinary life: a home, a family, etc. and so they cannot keep on living like that.

There are such people. Rambam (Maimonides), the great Kabbalist of the 11^th century says Abraham collected about 5,000 supporters who agreed with him. They felt that it suited them and that he thinks like them and that he had found a way to work with the type of ego that characterizes them, which means the ego that wants to know: “What am I living for, and what is concealed behind that; who raises me and where am I headed? etc.”

Question: It turns out that those who followed Abraham were all the different depressed people who were not satisfied with what this world can offer.

Answer: Precisely. They felt empty and followed him and he took them from their homes to the desert.

Abraham taught his students that it is possible to advance only by ascending above the ego and by using it correctly. Nimrod developed by using the ego and so do we, but we develop above it. He is in the ego, while we are above the ego.

This system operated in them although their life wasn’t so easy: a desert on the outside and a desert on the inside. On the other hand, Nimrod led his supporters with red flags and slogans of “forward” toward the victory of the egoistic workers, towards clear and satisfying goals. The environment supports you and everyone is happy, advancing and singing praises to Nimrod.

Here, however, the development is different, in emptiness. After all, you don’t develop in the ego so you have to find another point of development that is revealed when you exit yourself and connect to others. All your work is to grow stronger and to build the exit from yourself.

What is more, your ego sees this work as leading to nowhere and that it will never yield any positive outcome. The usual formula: “work a little and then you will receive a payment,” doesn’t work here. In ordinary life you can wait for a month or a year, the ego simply enters a process of preservation and waits knowing that it will eventually receive the payment and that the more it waits the greater the reward will be.

But here everything is different. Here you will never receive anything in your current desires because they are egoistic. You have to exit them and establish a totally new dimension above them, a new level on which you will exist. Your whole existence is focused on bestowal and all your pleasure and your filling will be in order to bestow. The more pleasure that goes through you to others, the better the outcome will be.

Question: So what gives these people energy? They constantly work and don’t receive anything…

Answer: It is already a spiritual desert, an inner emptiness, and what gives them energy is the attraction, the inner conviction that there is no other point to our existence, what for? Is it in order to run around like everyone else looking for profit?

There are many people in this world living according to a different principle, like artists and painters for example. They too don’t chase material goals but are looking for a more internal reward that brings them great pleasure, although it is egoistic.

Here, however, we have to create totally new vessels of perception that are external to us. If we connect, a state in which I am ready to give everything to others and to exist solely in them, when my “I” totally melts and disappears in them, it will be created. But then a new “I” exists in them and I begin to feel that I am truly free of my current nature.

This is what they want. This is what Abraham teaches them: the way that everyone can exit himself with the help of others who assist him in exposing himself and getting rid of the old “clothes.” He cannot do that by himself, but together they get rid of the chains of their ego, and when that happens they become real spiritual figures.

They get rid of their egoistic clothes, use them correctly because they are above them, and connect by their new impulse. Then, unlike Nimrod’s followers who establish an egoistic community, together they establish an altruistic community that merges into one whole, because every one exits himself into others.

Then they begin to feel, to accept, and to be filled by the force of nature that exists and surrounds all of reality, including our egoistic world, the egoistic desires and the way we picture it, but this force isn’t felt here since we cannot feel it without having a suitable vessel to feel it. There, however, we create new senses that resemble the integral force. This is called the dressing of the Creator in the created beings.

Question:  This means that they do receive pleasure.

Answer: They receive great pleasure; absolute filling for all their desires, but not in the old desires that were never meant to receive anything. When you go through the desert, turn yourself from a receiving creature into a creature that bestows, and tie yourself to work in order to bestow together with people like you, you begin to see the world as a world of forces instead of a corporeal world: a great many forces existing in perfect harmony, and now you are part of it. This is what we call the spiritual world.

This is what Abraham taught. This phase is called Adam (man), similar to (Domeh) the Creator, the one force.

The emptiness that was felt in them becomes the vessel that the pleasure now enters. They are filled with attainment, connection, and a common feeling, mutuality, when all the forces, the attributes and the energy of nature, not the nature of our world, but of the general reality, go through you. They exist in a new dimension that is eternal and whole.

Question: Did they feel all that when they followed Abraham?

Answer: In principle they knew that without this attainment there was no meaning to life. They didn’t know anything more than that. They may have guessed it by somehow feeling that there was something beyond this, but on the whole, it is the ego, of course, that pushed them forward.

This group became the foundation of the Jewish nation. The Jewish people are those 5,000 people who gathered into one whole above their ego in one altruistic yearning for a common desire, a common thought, as one man in one heart, in one thought. Israel is called “Yashar-El,” straight to the Creator, and the general connection is called Adam.

Thus, despite the egoistic fuel, this connection, this nation, was created and consolidated according to a spiritual perspective that is altruistic and not egoistic. They came from different tribes that lived in Mesopotamia and were totally different people. They even spoke different languages that were formulated just then. They had nothing in common, except for their yearning to advance.

Abraham united all these people, and they received a common language, Hebrew, since this is the most accurate and shortest code that stems from their spiritual attainment, in which it is possible to convey spiritual discernments, spiritual mathematics, the combination of different forces. Thus, this language was created out of the daily yearning to advance to connection.

Abraham and his disciples were forced out of Babylon and wandered to a land that later became known as the land of Israel. This group of disciples aspired toward unity and cohesion in accord with the tenet, “love your neighbor as yourself.” The ego was relentlessly growing within them, too, setting them apart, but they exerted in unity nonetheless. In the words of Maimonides (Mishnah Torah, “Shoftim” (Judges), “Do for others what you would like them to do for you.”

Thus, through the connection, Abraham’s disciples, in rising above their egos,  discovered a new phenomenon: the force of unity, nature’s hidden power.

Science tells us that every substance in reality consists of two opposite forces—connection and separation—and these forces balance themselves out. But individuals, and human society as a whole, evolve using only the negative force, the ego. According to nature’s plan, we are required to consciously compensate for the negative force with the positive force of unity.

However, we don’t possess any of it. Rather, this force exists in nature and we must discover it through building positive connections between us. When Abraham and his disciples offset the power of the ego between them with the force of unity, they discovered the wisdom of maintaining balance. They called that method, “the wisdom of Kabbalah.”
