Not for Your Own Benefit

514.02Question: How does Kabbalah define the quality of humility?

Answer: Humility lies in that a person does not ask for anything for oneself, but only for the sake of everyone else and the Creator.

Question: If I ask to love my friends, isn’t it contrary to humility? I am not asking for myself. I do not get any benefit from it.

Answer: It is good. You can ask this way.

Reference Points

235Question: Do we have any points of choice we could take into our work and constantly follow them?
Answer: Yes, there are such points that generally take on different shapes.

These are the so-called reference points: who I am, what I am, my connection with friends, my connection with the Creator, and so on; that is, we must keep in mind these nodal states.

Question: Is modesty also one of these states?

Answer: Yes, but we must understand the meaning of humility in spiritual work.

Increase the Desire to Bestow

562.02Question: What does it mean: “everyone who adds, worsens”? What can we worsen in spiritual work?

Answer: If the desire to receive increases, this worsens the state. We should only think about how to increase the desire to bestow.

To exit work within reason, we need to rise above it in faith above reason and let the desire to receive remain in the same place.

You are obliged to ask the Creator for the force of bestowing. To the extent that you begin to acquire it from Him, you are able to start using it.

Question: In our understanding, can we come to a clear sensation of the spiritual root of our achievements?

Answer: Of course we can. It depends only on us.

Join the Ten as if It were Your Soul

934Question: A person is included in the ten as in his or her soul. What does it mean that honor destroy a person’s soul?

Answer: A person starts to imagine himself as unique and superior, and in doing so, destroys and harms himself.

Balancing the egoism that manifests itself in the group is a big problem. We must treat everyone and the group as a whole as a Creator, and we should strive to put ourselves at the complete disposal of the ten.

Spiritual work should create a connection between us so that we value each other and discover that everyone is appreciated. Everyone in the ten should stand equally. That is how we begin to respect and value each other.

Attitude toward Efforts

243.01Question: In Rabash’s article “Moses Went,” it is written that when a person does not have a right hand, which is called the property of Hafetz Hesed, and he enjoys work, then the Sitra Achra (egoism) has no connection with this work. Does it mean that it is forbidden to enjoy effort at work?

Answer: In general, yes. We should enjoy not the efforts themselves, but how much these efforts influence the Creator and His attitude toward creation.

Question: How can I check whether my effort brings pleasure to the Creator?

Answer: When you turn to the Creator with a request, then your work already includes a certain raising of MAN on your part (what payment you want to receive for your action). You want your friends to get an ascent from it.

Question: If I make some effort and I feel good about it, then is this prohibited? Should I only wait for my friends to receive an ascent because of my action?

Answer: On one hand, yes. But on the other hand, it is not forbidden for you to feel bad.

Question: So it is good when I feel bad from an effort?

Answer: No, no, your attitude to your efforts should be in the same direction, the way you think to advance yourself.

The Torah—The Creator’s Method of Controlling Creation

137The language of the translation is close to the holy tongue, yet the angels do not need it and do not know it, while they do need and know the languages of the nations of the world (Rashbi, Zohar for All, “Heaven and Earth”).

Question: It says angels do not need Hebrew because they understand only Aramaic. Who are the angels inside a person?

Answer: They are forces that govern us. The idea that angels do not understand Hebrew is an allegory.

Question: So, does it mean that something is concealed from us?

Answer: Certainly! In essence the entire Torah is. Really the Torah is the Creator’s method of controlling all creation.

It describes how He governs the universe, what He envisions, how He introduces His plans into creation itself, how creation begins to execute the Creator’s plan, and how a person who is on the opposite side of creation (meaning, the Creator on one side from above and a person from below) can understand creation and adapt to it correctly.

Questions about Spiritual Work—75

560Question: How can you avoid diverting your attention from the opportunity to attract the light that leads to faith above reason?

Answer: Just think about it.

Question: Does sensitivity to light depend only on one’s effort??

Answer: From the effort and how close you are to your ten.

Question: Before spiritual work begins, a person’s mind is mixed with his heart. And then he is rewarded with a new structure in the heart where he can no longer think and act differently than what is required spiritually. What changes in a person’s mind?

Answer: One begins to feel the power of light that descends on him and the power of the ten. So, a person teams up with it.

Question: What will help us in the ten to penetrate the depths of the articles so as not to get confused, to come up with something apparent, and to go through a state of ascent?

Answer: Only connection between you and reading articles.

Question: Do our desires change as we move through the worlds?

Answer: The desires are the same, only the level of bestowal changes more and more.
