“Building Bridges of Peace: A Call for Unity in Israel” (Times of Israel)

Michael Laitman on the Times of Israel: “Building Bridges of Peace: A Call for Unity in Israel

It is a great rule in the Torah that “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (“Veahavta Lereacha Kamocha”). It is significant that this command is written in the singular, “Veahavta” and not plural “Veahavtem” as it emphasizes the need for every member of the nation of Israel to become an exemplar of love for the entire nation, until they all reach a unanimous agreement on a collective love for one another.

In the current war, Israel is focused on eliminating its enemies from its immediate surroundings, due to the constant threat to its existence and its people’s safety otherwise. But the true outcome of this war should transcend the physical removal of adversaries. It should compel each member of the Israeli nation to internalize the conditions for fruitful living—overcoming the inner distance between the people of Israel at the level of attitudes to one another. This boils down to embracing the timeless principle, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Such an outcome would mean comprehensive success. Physical distance from enemies who wish for the nation’s eradication is a temporary win until the people of Israel establish a society rooted in unity. The prevailing spirit within our society, a yearning for unity, is what will ultimately eliminate the existence of all enemies. That is, when we cultivate a unifying spirit, we affect unifying rippling effects throughout human consciousness. Then, from within, no one would feel the wish to disturb the people of Israel, because they would feel the people of Israel as a source of goodness in their lives.

Within our society, everyone should recognize the importance of developing positive human connections and understanding the purpose and plan for our shared existence. Discovering, feeling, accepting and realizing our life’s plan involves achieving a connection where mutual love, support and concern for one another come out ahead.

Our neighbors also need to comprehend that survival hinges on friendship and love. While these words may seem out of touch with the current reality that presents itself, they are states we must strive to achieve. While one of the results of the current war should be a message that breaching borders with an intent to harm will result in consequences, the longer-term aim is a world where war fails to appear even as an option.

Humanity should recognize that the people of Israel possess the ability to bring about peace for all. The relationships we cultivate can send waves of harmony worldwide, but it depends on our dedication to the unity of hearts. The nations of the world should realize that we cannot be broken, convinced or forced into a corner so that we agree to conditions that would serve to separate us, because we have a historical mission that we are committed to achieving. Instead, they should support us in attaining our purpose.

Therefore, our engagement in the current war should be accompanied by a widespread acknowledgment of our mission and role. Now is an opportune moment to reaffirm the Jewish principle of loving others, and create everlasting connections of love that expand onward to every person in every place.

Fear and Love Must Be Balanced

945Question: Fear and love together are perfection. And if there is less fear than love, what is this condition in the ten?

Answer: Fear and love must be balanced to support each other and exist together.

Question: If these qualities grow as we move forward, we will become like a high-voltage transmission line.

How can one bear this tension since it will increase?

Answer: The voltage will increase, but you will tolerate it. Connect love and fear with your friends and see how it will come into balance.

Ascent of Malchut into Bina

934The garden of Eden means the ascent of Malchut into Bina where she receives Hochma, as Eden means Hochma. And then Malchut, called “garden,” receives Hochma in the form of “Eden,” and this is “the garden of Eden” (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 84, “What Is “He Drove the Man Out of the Garden of Eden so He Would Not Take from the Tree of Life”?”)

Malchut is the lowest degree. Raising Malchut into Bina means correcting Malchut when it rises to the level of Bina with the help of prayer (MAN), receives light, and corrects itself so that it can use its desire for the sake of bestowal.

Question: Is the lowest degree our connection in the ten or my personal work?

Answer: This is the initial work of any person, it is one’s connection with the ten. If a person does not have connection with the ten, one does not go anywhere.

As a result of connection, you gain strength and confidence that you are acting correctly, and then go down and raise MAN.

With this MAN, prayer, you turn to the Creator, and He lifts and corrects you. And you, based on your corrected state, begin to correct all ten Sefirot in the place from which you ascended.

Our Work Is to Beseech the Creator

534Question: It is said that when a person gets used to the path of the Torah, he should regret the smallness of his attainment. How do we train the body for this and not stray from the spiritual path?

Answer: Through imagination, a person must imagine this.

Does he already feel that he contains the whole world within himself? Of course not. And therefore he continues to pursue the light, to pursue the Creator. He tries to ask, and implores the Creator not to abandon him, to draw him closer.

We must regret that there was some understanding and it disappeared. And so on and on until we reach a greater desire.

Question: What if some friends lose this regret? How does a group of ten not deviate and continue this work?

Answer: You must pray for the Creator to attract them.

This can happen to anyone. When you see that friends are cooling down, you must ask the Creator to worry about them. Our work is to turn to the Creator.

How Is the Tree of Life Formed?

938.02Question: How is the Tree of Life formed from the Kelim (Vessels) of the friends that I feel?

Answer: When you try to come closer to your friends and connect to their roots so that you can bestow to each other together, then the real Tree of Life is formed from which you feed, receive vital juices for fruits, and move forward in this way.

To do this, you must connect with your friends.

At the Moment of Impact

531.03Question: When something happens and you internally feel blows from the general system, could anything be changed in advance? And if you could not change it in advance, what could you add at the moment of impact?

Answer: At the moment of impact, nothing can be done. At that moment, it is only possible to be aware and hide because when a blow occurs, a negative force opens up in the system. The reverse side of it is bestowal. All that remains is to be aware of this as much as possible.

Any force consists of feeling and reason multiplied by each other. Feelings multiplied by reason equal the power of this force. If I engage my reason, then I should sense much less in my feeling. A small “ouch” is enough for my mind to turn it into a huge “ouch.”  And then I will not see massive destruction: “Got it! Enough. Thanks. No need. I am ready to improve. That’s it, I will be different.”

Nature forcefully teaches people. After all, we are just small sensory elements. Because a human is a desire, the most important thing in him is sensation. Sensations can be increased or decreased with the help of the recognition of evil.

Therefore, all of Kabbalah only gives us the opportunity to increase the recognition of evil so that we perceive a small evil as a big one, and immediately, like a smart child, react correctly and move forward.

Each time we increase our sensitivity in this way, again and again advance, and gradually reduce the correcting forces that affect us negatively.
