World Kabbalah Convention

Dr. Michael LaitmanFrom My Facebook Page Michael Laitman 7/2/23

We just held our World Kabbalah convention where thousands of students and friends gathered worldwide in person in several locations-from Australia to Ukraine, Georgia to Germany, and Argentina to Israel, among many others_and also virtually, to study, connect and delve deeper into convention’s topic, “Everything Is Obtained by the Power of Prayer.”

We chose this topic because nothing can influence humanity’s destiny like the power of prayer.

We learned what our prayer should comprise in order to receive an optimal response, that it should be aimed at reaching a state of wholeness.

We can understand it quite easily as follows: there are two desires in reality, reception and bestowal. By aiming our prayer in a direction of everyone’s harmonious connection, then reality’s guiding force of love, bestowal and connection, which Kabbalists call “the Creator,” will help us. The return to humanity’s state of wholeness is a state that Kabbalists call “as one man with one heart,” our primordial state as our single soul.

This soul underwent a shattering and a descent from its wholeness, which gave rise to our perception of an incomplete, fragmented and transient reality. In order to rise to the state of our single soul before the shattering, we need to undergo a correction of our perception of reality, and the means to do so is through a request—a prayer.

What does that request consist of?

It is us feeling a lack of a complete connection “as one man with one heart,” to feel no difference between people, countries, nations and various other partitions that our ego places between us. Simply put, it is the feeling of a need to be together above the ego’s boundaries in order to give ourselves an increasingly precise opportunity to bring ourselves closer to each other. By doing so, we come to the state of “as one man with one heart,” our connection as a single soul, feeling ourselves as belonging and acting in the spiritual world.

We went through several states at the convention, states of joy from such an immense global connection, as well as states of feeling how the upper light (the force of love and bestowal) acted on us, mixing us together like a salad. However, there was ultimately a feeling that thousands of people around the world acted in a direction to a single goal of harmoniously connecting “as one man with one heart,” with a readiness to connect and feel together above all differences.

If we continue investing in that direction, we will attain the feeling of our complete connection, the laws of the spiritual world, and the perception of how the world is one for everyone. It is my hope that we will come to this sensation soon.

At the close of this wondrous convention, the time has come to thank the Creator for this amazing opportunity, to thank everyone who invested their hearts into the event, and of course, to invite everyone who wishes to be a part of this immense connection experience to participate in our future conventions.

How Can We Understand the Intricacies of The Book of Zohar?

249.01Question: What did Rashbi’s students, who wrote The Book of Zohar, want to convey to us?

Answer: The authors of The Book of Zohar tell us how our world works, how it receives governance and fulfillment from the upper world, and leads itself to equivalence, to a good connection with it.

Question: When someone writes a book, he tries to make it clear to everyone so that some kind of connection in the story is observed via cause and effect. And in the article “The Rose” of the Introduction of The Book of Zohar, at the beginning it is written about some kind of “rose,” then about the fact that the Almighty flew, then about some letters. Why are all three points seemingly not connected at all? They are like three different stories.

Answer: It all depends on the state the reader is in. We cannot imagine what a person feels who is in the sense of connection of the upper and lower worlds and receives this information.

Question: Did Rashbi’s students write specifically so that no one would understand anything?

Answer: No, they just saw it that way. In addition, The Book of Zohar is not written for beginners. Imagine a modern scientist who wants to describe some natural phenomenon. He uses formulas, names, and definitions that are understandable only to people like him. After all, Einstein’s theory of relativity is also not clear to anyone.

265Question: People love when you give public lectures. You explain various things very clearly because it is difficult for many to understand more complex lessons like The Book of Zohar, TES, etc. Can they remain on a constant recharge from such large-scale lectures?

Answer: Yes, that is enough. If a person constantly listens to my lectures, and there are a lot of them, dozens, even hundreds, of all kinds of lectures available to a wide range of people, then through these simple phrases a person receives more and more internal information. It breaks deeper into him and works within him.

Perhaps later, he himself will be inclined to open my specific articles and books.

The Entire Spiritual Path of a Person

216.02Comment: Baal HaSulam’s book Shamati (I Heard) is written logically, beautifully, and understandable for a person. But this text seems to be encoded because it speaks about something slightly different than what is written in the book.

My Response: Yes, but a person can discover this code. It cannot be passed on secretly from one person to another. One who can understand, understands. One who does not understand cannot do anything about it.

Put a dog next to a Kabbalist, what will it understand? It must first attain the qualities of a human, and then turn from a human into a Kabbalist.

It all depends on us. While we read Shamati, we feel this text differently due to our corrections, not because something exists in the text, but because everything exists in a person.

Let’s say you have a musical score in front of you. If you have a musical instrument, you can play it. If you understand the notes, you can sing without an instrument. But if you do not have an understanding of what these symbols are, what can you do?

Therefore, a person who constantly reads Shamati reveals more and more information in it. There is a deeper code in this book than we imagine when we first read it. It describes the entire spiritual path of a person.

The Secret of Hearing and Sight

567.01Question: Why is music so much more sufficient than a visual picture? For example, if I do not see a person, but I hear what he is saying, I can understand him. Yet, if I do not hear, but I see that he is waving his arms, then I can only understand certain symbolism.

Answer: Hearing is the level of Bina, and sight is the level of Hochma. That is, sight and hearing cannot be connected with other sensations. These are already the channels through which, as it were, spiritual information is transmitted.

Through smells, tastes, and tactile sensations, you cannot convey internal, semantic information. This requires special codes. But through words, music, and especially through pictures, this can already be done.

It is like laser frequencies or high frequencies in radio engineering, through which you can transmit a huge amount of video and audio information. At low frequencies, however, only small packets of sound or some other information can be transmitted.

So here, from organ to organ, the possibility of transmitting semantic information increases.

Question: Is sound in any case more meaningful than sight?

Answer: No, 90% of information is perceived through sight, not by hearing, because sight is closer to direct perception than hearing.

We must hear the words, translate them inside ourselves into the language of pictures, because we perceive only them. We feel these pictures, which have moved from their sound format to semantic ones within us, and something happens to them.

The visual range, however, is immediately perceived by our desires in a sensory form. This is the difference between hearing and seeing, as between Bina and Hochma.

If someone speaks, I must listen, understand the words, build their semantic series in myself, translate this series into feelings, and so on. But if I see a picture, it immediately evokes feelings in me. There is no buffer in the form of a link of words.

You might ask, “How is this perceived with regard to the amount of information?” You can talk a lot about this topic, but, in principle, this already applies to psychology, and not to Kabbalah.

Exchange of Spiritual Energy

235Comment: You say that the transmission of information through vision is more effective than through hearing. But you cannot visually show spirituality, so you convey this information to us orally, as if you paint it through words.

My Response: I transmit information orally and try to evoke adequate sensations in people.

Question: I am looking for the correct combination of picture and sound. You said that certain melodies can create a sensation that is closer to a spiritual experience. Is it possible to convey this with a visual image?

Answer: And with an image it is possible. But it is not the same.

The main transmission of spiritual information occurs on the shared screen between the student and the teacher, which is known as “mouth to mouth.”

“Mouth” does not refer to lips. The mouth refers to the place where the head, the thoughts, of the spiritual Partzuf, ends in our spiritual image. When the thoughts of the teacher and the student fully coincide in the mutual exchange of information, energy, and fulfillment, then the direct transmission of authentic information occurs, if they are connected together at least in some common volume.

This informational explosion, which is felt by each of the individuals connecting in this way, is that special state we need to reach. If we come to this, we will attain the full manifestation of the upper force (the Creator) that will fill us with absolute knowledge, energy, pleasure, and eternal existence.

Implementation of Spiritual Information

234Question: You say that you give us information and the rest is our work. What is the implementation of this information?

Answer: You must annul yourself before the teacher as much as possible in order to take his advice and instructions and follow them the way he tells you to in the group and in the study. That is it! Nothing else.

Additional work is dissemination. By disseminating the Kabbalistic methodology in the world, you receive from the world its desires, its emptiness, and thus you raise them. You are excited by the world and its striving forward and by the lack of its ability to be fulfilled.

That is, dissemination is also of great importance. But, in principle, the priorities are arranged as follows: the teacher, then the group, and together with the teacher and the group, study with books.

By correctly implementing this in yourself, you awaken the hidden force in nature that develops, corrects, creates, and animates everything—the force of bestowal and love called the Creator or light.

Coming to Harmony with Nature

002Comment: You say that it is very important that the method of correction be revealed to the world as widely as possible.

My Response: I believe there is no other solution! We must put everyone behind the school desk. Everyone must study! Those who society needs to work should work a little; that is all!

We need to stop the predatory emptying of the bowels of the earth. Stop making toys that no one needs, all these jewels, all this nonsense. We need to produce only what is necessary for existence. Stop the consumer society! Just shake it off from ourselves! It only bogs us down deeper into the predatory squandering of everything we have.

All researchers say that the earth is being depleted. Oil, gas, various metals, and other materials will last only for the next few years. Where will we go next?!

The economy should not be built on developing itself, not in producing more; it should be built in order to give everyone a good minimum standard of living. If at the same time we adapt ourselves to nature, we will suddenly find huge reserves for eternal existence in it; we will have enough of everything. We just need to come to harmony with nature.

Question: But the more we develop, the more we suffer. Does it make a person change somehow?

Answer: The more you move, the more you suffer because you think that as a result of the movement you will gain something.

Just like the phrase from Faust, “Stop, moment, you are wonderful,” I want to stay in this moment, not because it is beautiful, but because if I stop, I will find that it is beautiful.

“Is suffering and depression a result of bad past life karma?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is suffering and depression a result of bad past life karma?

In the wisdom of Kabbalah, we discuss Reshimot, which are records of the past or information about past actions that are engraved on our soul. Reshimot pressure us and determine our present and future.

However, our behavior can change the influence of these records from the past, making it so that they become perceived positively in the present.

It all depends on us.
