How Can We Overcome Depression?

laitman_570Question: We watched your video where you talk about depression with interest. You say that to overcome depression one has to find a sublime goal, to want to see the Light, to ascend above materialism, etc.

My wife has been suffering from depression for three years now, often crying, feeling despondency, grief, sorrow, and pain. What should we do?

Answer: Let her watch our other videos that speak about the meaning of life and about our existence. If possible, bring her to one of our conventions.

Why Do The Lazy Live Longer?

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (Op-Ed): “It is believed that getting up early in the morning, an intense work schedule, and active sports lead to success, healthy living, and longevity. However, Peter Axt and Michaela Axt-Gadermann, authors of The Lazy Live Longer, referring to recent research scientists explain that it is a delusion. … A morning run to prevent a heart attack is likely to lead to a heart attack, and torturing oneself in a health club in the best case will not bring benefit. And in the worst case, cause harm. But being lazy and sleeping for a long time is healthy. …

Daily ‘exercises’ like gardening, walking the dog, washing the windows of the house or climbing stairs are sufficient for maintaining health and vigor.

“If we stick to the theory of life energy, physical activity only wastes precious energy reserves. Sports cannot be a guarantee of health and longevity.

‘All things are poisons, for there is nothing without poisonous qualities. It is only the dose which makes a thing poison,’ Paracelsus claimed. This is true for sports training. In modern literature, sport again and again referred to as a protection against cancer. However, this view is probably valid only for moderate physical activity. Intensive athletic exercises in this respect do not carry any health effect. They may even increase the risk of cancer. …

“According to numerous studies, a certain dose of locomotor activity protects against diseases of the cardiovascular system and is good for health. This athletic exercises are not necessary. It is enough to do the same activities that we do every day: walking the dog, going shopping, climbing stairs or mowing the lawn. Try to move regularly; the program consists of half an hour of energetic walking three or four times a week and stretching your muscles for 10-15 minutes three times a week. More than this is unnecessary. From the point of view of metabolic theory, this program is the optimal basis for a long and successful life.”

My Comment: By the way, according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, a person doesn’t need to be involved with special exercises to develop the body. Regular activity is sufficient for maintaining the fitness of the body. And further, it is said, “Sitting increases knowledge.”

“Everyone Has A ‘Microbial Cloud'”

laitman_550In the News (BBC):  “Everyone is surrounded by a unique “cloud” of millions of their own bacteria, according to scientists at the University of Oregon in the US.

“Walk through someone else’s cloud, and it will ‘rain’ bacteria on your skin and be breathed into your lungs.

The study on 11 people, published in the journal PeerJ, showed it was possible to identify people from their microbial miasma.

“One microbiologist said the findings were simply ‘gross’.

“Studies have already shown that our microbiome – the collection of bacteria, viruses and fungi that live on our skin and in our bodies – outnumbers our own cells 10-to-one.

“These can be spread through direct contact, airborne emissions and shed skin cells in dust. …

“One of the researchers, Dr James Meadow, said: ‘We expected that we would be able to detect the human microbiome in the air around a person, but we were surprised to find that we could identify most of the occupants just by sampling their microbial cloud.’

“He [Dr Ben Neuman, a microbiologist from the University of Reading] said the ‘gross’ findings ‘make sense’ in light of the growing understanding of the microbiome and showed that by exchanging bacteria we ‘are changing each other all the time’. …

My Comment: We are all totally interconnected, not only between us but with all continuous space. This connection enables us to imagine continuous and infinite strings that connect all the elements of creation into one whole. The bacteria are only a minor external form of our complete unity.

Compliance With The 613 Mitzvot (Commandments)

laitman_571_01Question: What does compliance with the 613 Mitzvot mean?

Answer: There exist 613 egoistic desires in every person, which must be corrected for goodness and love.

Question: Do I need to constantly count them by myself?

Answer: No. The desires that can be corrected will arise automatically in a person in succession and in particular connections. It is enough for me to think that I must nullify myself towards others and connect with them.

This must be my only permanent movement, so that everything, one way or another, will approach realization of the general rule, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” And this is called performing the 613 Mitzvot.

What Is The Connection Between Vegetarianism And A Volcanic Eruption

Laitman_728_01Question: How does Kabbalah relate to the ideology of vegetarianism, which is based on the desire not to cause harm or suffering to living beings?

Answer: People who make this claim do not understand the purpose of creation and the fact that each species in nature acts and exists for the sake of another higher form of being.

Inanimate nature exists in order for plants to grow; plants exist in order to raise animals, and animals in order to raise humans, while people exist in order to raise the Creator.

Each level of nature is required to maintain a higher level. Just like the task of the earth is to support the plants and lend itself for their use, so the task of an animal is to be used by man. The question is only in exactly how to use the animals, in what form.

This is why we are given laws that define how to rear animals, how to kill them, how to prepare the meat, and how to eat it. All of this is described in great detail in the laws of Kashrut.

If we perform these actions correctly, then through them we sanctify both plants and animals, raising them to the degree of man, and together with man, onto the next degree. After all, a person lives in order to bring himself up to be Adam (man), “similar” (Domeh) to the higher force.

This is how I see it through my knowledge of the wisdom of Kabbalah and understanding of the entire system. I am not forcing vegetarians to eat meat. For example, my wife eats it very rarely, but not for ideological reasons but simply because her blood type is A, and people of that blood type do not like meat.  So this occurs in a natural way.

But the problem is that vegetarians are usually fighting for their idea. I have not yet met a single calm vegetarian. One would think that on the contrary, those who eat meat should be bloodthirsty and aggressive. But they appear to be calmer, perhaps because they are well fed, while vegetarians, possibly from lack of satiation, are often very irritable and demanding.

I do not understand why they are taking such a strong stand. Let everyone eat all the foods that nature has provided for us. We do not realize that we exist in a closed system of nature, and if we somehow alter our habits, then through that we change the laws of nature even on its still, vegetative, and animal levels.

Suppose the majority of humanity would now decide to become vegetarians, meaning, they would change their attitude toward the still, vegetative, and animal nature. Thus, we introduce into the overall system, which integrally ties all of us together, a new attitude that is opposite to the one originally imparted to us by nature.

Nature intended for every level to nurture and raise the one above it: the still would do that for plants, the plants for animals, and the animals for people.

We are made in such a way that we need to use all types of food specifically in this form: salt and water from the still level, permitted vegetables from the vegetative level, and permitted meat from the animate level, carrying out all the laws of their preparation.

We are talking about natural laws. I am not simply eating, but through this I am figuring out my attitude toward general nature. After all, I have to observe all the rules that determine what can be eaten and what cannot, and if it is allowed, then in what form. And if something cannot be eaten, maybe it could be used not as food, but in some other way, for example, for making leather.

Everything is structured so that a person would utilize all of nature correctly. If he does not do so, then through one’s incorrect relationship to nature he introduces a distortion into the overall system and alters physical, chemical, and other natural laws.

And then we are surprised when suddenly, some volcano erupted, or a tsunami appeared, or that there is an extraordinary heatwave up to 50° C in London. We do not understand why such disasters occur “all of a sudden,” and yet it is we ourselves who have disrupted the balance in the system.

The Heart Is Stronger Than The Brain

Laitman_198From the News (ratical.org): “The idea that we can think with our hearts is no longer just a metaphor, but is, in fact, a very real phenomenon. We now know this because the combined research of two or three fields is proving that the heart is the major center of intelligence in human beings.

“Molecular biologists have discovered that the heart is the body’s most important endocrine gland. In response to our experience of the world, it produces and releases a major hormone, ANF — which stands for Atriol Neuriatic Factor — that profoundly effects every operation in the limbic structure, or what we refer to as the ’emotional brain.’ This includes the hippocampal area where memory and learning take place, and also the control centers for the entire hormonal system. And neurocardiologist have found that 60 to 65% of the cells of the heart are actually neural cells, not muscle cells as was previously believed. They are identical to the neural cells in the brain, operating through the same connecting links called ganglia, with the same axonal anddendritic connections that take place in the brain, as well as through the very same kinds of neurotransmitters found in the brain.

“Quite literally, in other words, there is a “brain” in the heart, whose ganglia are linked to every major organ in the body, to the entire muscle spindle system that uniquely enables humans to express their emotions. About half of the heart’s neural cells are involved in translating information sent to it from all over the body so that it can keep the body working as one harmonious whole. And the other half make up a very large, unmediated neural connection with the emotional brain in our head and carry on a twenty-four-hour-a-day dialogue between the heart and the brain that we are not even aware of.”

My Comment: As we all know, according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the heart and the brain are connected and cooperate in operating the whole body, and the heart feels and thinks (the heart understands) and only then is the brain operated as a mechanism that carries out the decisions of the heart. In fact the heart and the brain don’t decide. All the decisions take place on a higher level of nature where all the worlds and their fillings are in complete mutual connection, in the one field of the management.

Love For Animals Or Love For People

Laitman_049_01Question: A human being is a part of the animal world, albeit a most developed one. Animals can be herbivores or predators who consume each other. Throughout the entire history of humanity, people ate animals, so we can be placed into the category of predators.

Why, then, did vegetarianism became so popular lately? Could it be a result of people’s development to such a degree where they are uncomfortable with killing animals for their own pleasure?

Answer: I do not think that humanity has developed that greatly because development should be internal, not simply the growth of intellect. We know that high intelligence does not make a person kind to others. That does not depend on the level of education, on what university a person graduated from, or how many Nobel prizes he or she has.

In general, I do not see that man is evolving in the human sense. It is impossible to find an example where a nation reached high inner development by virtue of its technical progress and technological accomplishments, or even by achievements in literature, music, and medicine.

Germany was the most developed country before the second World War, and look at what kind of suffering the Germans brought to the entire world.

Question: But I am speaking about just one specific aspect: a person’s treatment of animals!

Answer: And I am not talking about animals but about a person’s treatment of people! We know that the most developed nation at the time made lampshades from human skin. This is why I do not see any signs of advancement in the fact that a person refuses to consume animals as food.

We are talking about the development of human qualities in a person. If vegetarianism would be a consequence of such development, then it will be a different story. However, for now, we are not talking about that. Vegetarianism has no connection to the good treatment of people.

Question: Is it not kindness if a person refuses to kill an animal for his own satiation?

Answer: It is a completely wrong approach because, even given that, we kill and torture animals daily through our egoistic relationships with people, and killing and eating a chicken is not egoism because a chicken exists in order to lift a person. The inner premise of a chicken is to help a person live and to raise him to a higher level.

Moreover, our bodies have such needs that are impossible to satisfy by consuming only a vegetarian diet. A person needs meat. We do not understand this yet and have not researched it enough. I am sure that such research exists, but it is being hidden and not allowed to be published.

A person cannot live without eating meat. Our body and its digestive system, the entire system of food intake, is arranged in such a way that we are required to eat meat, except for those who do not like it by nature. There is a special type of people who do not like meat.

The conclusion is very simple. We cannot spread vegetarianism as an ideology through persistent means of pressure. We need to stop advertising it across all channels. Ardent vegetarians themselves look like predators who are ready to tear other people apart for eating a piece of chicken.

Let vegetarians show others how much kinder vegetarianism has made them, how much their attitude toward people, and not just toward animals, has changed for the better. Let them first correct their relationship to people and only after that toward animals and show an example to everyone! Only then will I understand that it is a revolution in humanity and not just a vegetarian revolution.

A vegetarian diet is being referred to as natural, as closer to nature. However, is it natural? If a person wants to follow his nature, then he needs to eat meat.

Our Collective Consciousness Influences The World

laitman_947In the News (Epoch Times):“According to a University of Princeton study, an emotion or a thought that several people share simultaneously can affect the physical reality. Our thoughts can be powerful not only in the ideological sense, but also physically, and a thought that is shared by several people is very powerful.
“According to the findings of the study of human consciousness in the 90’s carried out at the Princeton lab (PEAR), the human mind can influence a generator of random numbers. Such experiments have raised several questions: can people’s emotional response have an effect on a destructive earthquake, on a massive terrorist attack, or on the feelings of football fans, etc.? Can the shared joy of people during a special holiday influence our electrical appliances? The clarification and analysis of these issues indicate that there are deep subconscious relations between people even if they are not physically connected.”

My Comment: The wisdom of Kabbalah allows us to reach a collective conscious influence that is purposefully focused on the world. There is no other method, and therefore the major principle by which we can attain this influence over the world is “love thy friend as thyself.”

The Summit Of Human Fear

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (mignews): “What frightens people more than anything in the world? 46% of respondents are afraid of climate change and global warming, 41% are afraid of ISIS and economic crisis, 62% of Americans and 53% of Israelis are afraid of the Iranian nuclear program, 33% are afraid of cyber attacks.”

My Comment: I think that what is most important is not the cause of fear, but the solution to fear. The solution is in the union of people; it will nullify all the reasons for fear of the future and will open new horizons of development!

The Legalization of Marijuana In The USA

Laitman_408Opinion (Dasha Gasanova):The culture of smoking tobacco in the developed countries of the world is more than 500 years old. But the fight against tobacco only started in the 20th century, in parallel, the creation of monopolies in the sales of tobacco and growth in profit.

“For a long time these processes occurred simultaneously where, as the doctors warned about the dangers the manufacturers filled the pockets. Now there is no doubt that heart diseases, cancer growths and respiratory disease are directly connected to smoking tobacco.

“However, tobacco smoking was never considered as a dangerous practice for the public, in contrast to drug addiction.  It is very difficult to find a junkie who is identified as a positive image in any of the various human cultures. It is long considered that to engage in drug use is despicable, inappropriate, and is pursued rigidly as a criminal offense and condemned by society.

“There is no sensible person who doubts the damage to health caused by drugs. And this is in addition to the physical feelings that a junkie has, and the people close to him who are directly harmed.

“Here it is interesting to see the transformation, the ‘somersault’ of American society and top legislative and executive leadership regarding the use of marijuana, in the direction of supporting the legalization of this habit. Where did the conservatism and continuation of the moral foundations of America’s founding fathers go?

“In the last decade, in many states within the US, the smoking of drugs pushed out the smoking of tobacco – the active fight against tobacco cleaned up the area for use of grass, all according to the law.

“The deadly consequences of the use of grass persist for decades.

“In the case of grass, both the American doctors and those marketing the marijuana, find themselves on the same side of the barricade.  The doctors calmly relate to the subject of drug addiction, even when it is clear to them that it is much more difficult to be rehabilitated from grass than from tobacco.”

My Comment: According to the plans of the American elite, there is a need to euthanize most of humanity until the population naturally decreases to 1-2 billion people. There is no other “quiet” means. Thus, the decision was made on a global scale to make “soft” drugs legal and to market them. The tobacco companies were forced to keep quiet. And the same order was given to the media. The negative attitude concerning tobacco and the positive attitude towards marijuana is spreading from the US to the rest of the world.
