Why Are Good People Given A Hard Fate?

laitman_565.01Question: Why are good, righteous, pure people given a heavy lot in life, hardships related to coronavirus and all similar events, yet what’s happening in the world does not affect bad people at all?

Answer: Our egoistic world is so distorted that to think that good people should get only good things in it and bad people, bad, is absolutely incorrect.

If good people, who seem to strive for good, sometimes get an evil fate, the blows of fate—this is quite natural. After all, our world is all egoistic and evil. And that is why, there is nothing good to expect from it, especially now, when we are beginning to enter the last stage of our correction, accompanied by a pandemic.

Now there will be such turns that will teach us constantly how to change ourselves correctly in order to be in line with the increasingly manifested integral world.

Question: But can we somehow prepare for this, make some kind of prophylaxis?

Answer: “Prophylaxis” is a good word. I will tell you one thing: We are engaged in this prevention.

The point is that a person must adapt to the future world that is now being born. For this, we must become less egoistic. Therefore, the current virus will shake us and make completely different people. Moreover, by any means, both rough and delicate, depending on how we will succumb to it. This is  first.

Secondly, we need to learn how to unite above our egoism, despite it. It is very difficult.

Everything begins attaining our nature as evil along with the yearning to reach a correct, good relationship between us.

We are entering such a state now when the forces of nature will educate us very seriously.

A Fight We Are All In

laitman_220Question: In the fight against the coronavirus, it is clear that we have already received a global brain: information and experience diverge across all countries.

How can we reach a global heart? How do we feel others? And what feelings are you talking about? Don’t doctors who save lives by working 16 hours a day do it out of feelings? After all, many people have a choice not to work.

Answer: I don’t think doctors have a choice to work or not. I don’t think they themselves decide to stay at home. In principle, their profession and circumstances do not exclude self-sacrifice.

But the fact is that the time has come to understand that we are connected to each other and each country cannot take care only of itself separately because the virus practically has no borders.

How it is transmitted and how it arises, we still do not know at all. Therefore, absolutely everyone takes part in the fight against it. So far, this is the best achievement that the pandemic has brought us.

Train To High Jump Over Egoism

laitman_751.1The coronavirus has placed us into virtual reality, sending us home. Gradually, over time, we will get used to working from home, to new virtual relationships with colleagues at work, with banks, government agencies, with friends. We will build virtual circles of communication, closer and more distant, related to work and leisure.

You can play chess online; you can even join in sports together while each stays at home. A computer program gives the impression that we are together and do the same exercises.

However, this raises a question because people go to a fitness club to place themselves under the influence of that environment. If I miss a workout, I will get a reprimand from the coach. And in training, I must try to be no worse than others. How will all this happen in a virtual environment if I am alone at home with a computer program in front of me? I no longer feel the pressure of the physical group, and I will not try as hard.

I become a great egoist, I remain alone with myself in my microcosm, and I no longer have to reckon with anyone or explain anything to anyone. But I think it is good. This is how I begin to realize how selfish I was. In order to connect with the environment, I need to rise a little above my egoism. This is the reason I try to connect with others.

The fact that I am distancing myself from my former connections does not mean that I have become a greater egoist because I am doing it under duress because of the pandemic. I move away, following the instructions of doctors and the Ministry of Health, so as not to transmit the virus to someone and not get infected myself.

But when I was left alone at home, I had the opportunity to think about how I could approach others. The problem is that we are committing a crime in our thoughts. If our thoughts about each other were kind, then we would not be afraid of the coronavirus.

If we went out into public places with the thought of how not to harm others and knew how to protect them, we would never pass the virus from one person to another. Everything is determined by thought, intention.

We are now in virtual communication, each at a distance from the others. So let’s try to feel how much we are allowed to get closer to our neighbor, not because of the coronavirus, but because of another virus, because of my selfishness.

I have the right to use my egoism only to the extent that it does not harm my neighbor. If I can get closer without hurting you, then I will. And if I have selfish thoughts, then I cannot come close. In this form, you can already start measuring the distance between us in order to understand how far or close we really are. Closeness is defined according to my desire to bring you goodness from heart to heart.

How can we ensure that we fulfill our commitments to the group and show up for training on time and do all the necessary exercises together? I agree with my group mates that we are preparing for our virtual meeting so that everyone thinks kindly of the rest. And then everyone must check himself whether he can approach such a meeting.

If we have agreed to meet, then I leave the house and go to my friends. And at some point on the way, I begin to doubt if I can get closer? What if you can’t go on and I will harm them? Maybe I’m thinking about myself instead of thinking about them? This is how I begin to estimate material distance according to spiritual distance.

Then we begin to talk with friends only at spiritual distances, figuring out how close or distant we are to each other, connected or disconnected. And all this is about spiritual convergence or distance. It turns out that the virtual society helps us achieve spiritual connection. If we measure the distance from heart to heart in this way, then this is already a spiritual dimension.

We must establish between us such a measure of reference that will be spiritual, not material, that is, not in meters or kilometers, but in heart units of measurement, from heart to heart. Thus, we develop a special sensitivity between us. Only if I really wish my friend well am I ready to approach him and connect with him. In this case, we will never harm each other, and no virus can spread between us.

In order to achieve this practically, we need to develop a computer program that will let us train our attitude toward others the way we train muscles. It will show me how close or far I am to other people and how I can approach or distance myself from them. It should be obvious to me that I am not moving away materially, but only spiritually.

This is how we will begin to move from the material world to the spiritual world, where everything is measured only by the correspondence of properties, by the proximity of hearts.

The program should guide a person through a series of exercises, starting with the simplest, and becoming more and more complex, letting him understand his attitude to various actions, all kinds of other people’s desires. He will see if he is able to rise above his nature in order to connect more with his neighbor. So we will gradually get closer.

We need computer programs that will train a person, as if in a gym, in different life situations and teach him to rise above them for the benefit of others, and not himself. Through such exercises, he will see whom he cares more about: others or himself.

The program will present a person with various life situations one after another, guiding him through different sensory states and showing how ready he is to rise above his egoism for the good of others and take care of them without thinking about himself, or not ready for this. This will greatly change a person and will form new people out of us. It is possible to create such programs, you just need to show a little imagination.

“Israel Had A Coronavirus Record Over The July 4th Weekend, With Cases Spiking By 13 Percent. Why Do You Think That Is?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Israel had a Coronavirus record over the July 4th weekend, with cases spiking by 13 percent. Why do you think that is?

Now we are heading toward the end of July 2020, and the coronavirus cases have spiked nearly 92% more over the course of the month, from 28.4K cases on July 5 to 54.4K cases on July 23.

Why?

As I have written and spoken about extensively since the coronavirus became a global pandemic, COVID-19 is not merely a health and economic issue, but a nature-sent phenomenon that has come to reprogram humanity: to make us all more aware of our interdependence and interconnectedness, and to give us conditions by which we become forced to exercise our mutual dependence on each other.

Also, before the coronavirus struck the world, I extensively wrote and spoke about the people of Israel having a special role in our world: to pioneer humanity’s transformation to a positive connection above its increasing divisiveness.

The more divided society becomes, the more there is a need for the unity that the people of Israel have a method to realize.

Therefore, if we, the people of Israel, make strides to positively connect in order to be a unifying example for humanity, we will then experience a positive reaction from nature and other nations.

If we fail to move in a unifying direction, then our negligence and disunity will ripple throughout humanity in the many forms of social division pitting people in the world against each other, and we will experience its negative backlash.

Instead of becoming a unifying example capable of leading the world to a more harmonious state, we have become the opposite: an example of social discord, like a tail trailing behind humanity, dragging along and slowing down humanity’s progress to a more positively connected state.

This is the situation we’re currently in. Thus, it comes as no surprise to me that we have encountered a major rise in coronavirus cases this month. And it has nothing to do with whether or not we observed the health department’s guidelines.

Until we reach an understanding of our role, that we exist not for ourselves but for humanity, and feel on our flesh that we need to contribute an example of unification above division to humanity, then we can expect more and more malfunctions that work against us.

The calculation with regard to the people of Israel is always in relation to humanity’s unity or disunity: if we act to increase unity among ourselves and humanity, then we will experience positive feedback together with a force of connection that increases humanity’s happiness, safety and health to humanity.

And the more human society needs unity, i.e., the more it experiences the negative effects of its divisiveness, then the more we will become pressed to respond according to our fateful role.

“Repairing The World From The Pandemic” (Medium)

Medium published my new article “Repairing the World from the Pandemic

The planet is not going back to the “old normal,” warned the World Health Organization (WHO) as more than 14 million people have been infected with the coronavirus globally, with around one third of those cases reported in the US. Also taking into account its severe economic impact, the WHO considers the pandemic to be the “most severe” global health emergency ever. COVID-19 has arrived to erase the old world and draw a new one, and we can look ahead to the new world with optimism and hope.

The new reality demands that we undergo such a perceptual inversion, in which we will each stop calculating everything out of narrow self-interest, and instead develop a broad vision that takes everyone’s best interests into account.

More than a passing crisis, the health and economic devastation from the coronavirus represent the collapse of the world as we knew it. That old reality is crumbling before our eyes. World leaders find themselves powerless to manage the pandemic properly. They have their backs pressed against the wall and their pockets empty of ideas on how to solve the enormous coronavirus challenges, since their approaches are unaligned with the new reality.

We thus need to realize that tomorrow will be unlike yesterday. Although nostalgia for the past is natural, we have no option but to start looking forward, and fast.

New Is Good

The old world collapsed because its foundation needed an upgrade. Even if we found success in the old world, it says nothing about whether we will do so in the new reality. In order to survive and prosper in the new world, we need to transform the basis of our interactions: from egoistic to mutually considerate. The new reality demands that we undergo such a perceptual inversion, in which we will each stop calculating everything out of narrow self-interest, and instead develop a broad vision that takes everyone’s best interests into account.

The pace of human development has accelerated tremendously over the past few centuries. It has manifested in all sorts of revolutions and social changes. Currently, the call for solidarity and equality resounds in the streets of many countries. However, in the new world, even revolutions will be different. They will first and foremost take place inside the person, in people’s minds and emotions, rather than on the streets. We will have to feel that all human beings are equal, close, connected in mutual consideration, and accordingly learn how to treat others as we would like to be treated.

Previous revolutions changed the pecking order: those who were unimportant became important, and those on top lost their status. The next revolution will be different. Its innovation will be the connection of everyone together as one.

When we feel as one, social systems will emerge that mirror our new connection. Some of the new systems will be voluntarily built out of informed participation on our part. However, as much as we lag behind in our grasp of the developmental trend toward unity, nature will painstakingly force the construction of more unifying systems against our will. Thus, we will gradually bear witness to the dismantlement of the egoistic society, and its replacement with an altruistic society where all parts are equal and connected in mutual complementation.

An Inverted View to Advance

How long will the change in question take? That is up to us.

As of today, we are very far from the goal, both socially and personally. There is nothing more contrary to human nature than to think of the good of others as if it were our own good. And yet, our evolution requires such a change. Humanity now faces the challenge of matching nature’s integrality and unity if it is to survive the 21st Century.

How will it be possible to reverse our selfish view? The method to reverse our nature can be explained with the following example:

Under the current circumstances, we worry about contracting the coronavirus from others and decide to take measures to protect ourselves, such as wearing face masks and keeping our distance from others. An inverse perception, from inward care to outward concern, could be explained as following precisely those same measures as before, but with the intention to avoid our own involuntary transmission of the virus to others.

It is no coincidence that it is currently impossible for us to get rid of the coronavirus, since doing so would require a level of mutual responsibility and guarantee that we do not have. This global pandemic might just turn out to be the first in a series of blows that will show us, with ever-increasing force, that in nature’s view, we are all one, and our good future depends on taking care of each other as if we are members of the same family.

Therefore, we should try to think about what it means to act positively to others — not only to those who are naturally close and dear, but just as much to those who seem foreign and distant. What we do for the sake of others comes back to us, because the system’s every detail exists interdependently with everyone and everything in a single complete whole.

When we function as a single body we will experience the good life: Nature’s cohesive force will flow in our connections, and the world will become filled with abundance, health and tranquility, giving us all a new lease on life.

Does Nature Want To Reduce The Earth’s Population?

laitman_961.1Question: What is the importance of saving every person’s life? Maybe the virus was specially sent to us by nature in order to reduce the population of the Earth to one billion?

Then the planet would be cleansed and there would be enough resources for everyone. Isn’t the fact that we are saving people an action against nature? Perhaps we need to listen to it and go with the flow?

Answer: No. The fact is that our planet can feed two to three times the current population. That is not a problem.

The problem is the organization of humanity. It does not interact correctly right now, and that is why most people suffer.

It all depends only on the organization, not on the number of people, but on their agreement with each other.

Toward An Optimal Existence

laitman_527.03Question: We often say that overproduction depletes natural resources and destroys the world. The world has cleared up a bit during the pandemic. We hear that the water in Venetian channels has never been so clean. There were dolphins there again that had not been seen for many years.

The issue of overproduction should be resolved practically. Of course, re-education of people and learning the basics of the integral world are important, but you need to eat; someone must produce food. What should we do?

Answer: I am in no way concerned with the production of the necessary goods for living—food, clothing, machines that produce these products—but only to the extent that they are necessary.

The global nature in which we exist will still not let us produce more than is necessary for our normal existence. We will go back and forth, try to push the limits, and it will push us back to our optimal existence.

We do not need jewelry stores, diamond exchanges, and luxury boutiques. None of this will exist. We will see how it will all quietly close down. People will not have any money, nor will they need any of this. Instead, everyone will think about how to live tomorrow and how to come to an optimal and normal future.

What Does The Virus Point To?

A Glance At Short-Term Perspective

laitman_621Question: How will consumer demand change now during the pandemic? What should entrepreneurs and business start-ups focus on?

Answer: We have come to a state when humanity must grow out of its egoism. Therefore, all clearly egoistic enterprises will gradually fade away. This is a matter of the next few years.

The point is that in the next generation we must reach similarity to nature—integrality and dependence of everyone on everyone. Although it seems to us that the egoistic society is developing, in general it already is in internal stagnation.

I believe that the blows of the coronavirus are the beginning of stagnation. Nature will no longer allow us to do anything we want with it. We cannot open any businesses with impunity, absolutely recklessly, and spoil the environment just to make money and not know what to do with it.

We have a big task ahead of us, to understand how to balance ourselves. I think that with the release from self-isolation, we will begin to feel for the first time that we cannot get back to the usual egoistic, capitalist world, up to the point that we will see how people have changed. We will see that they are disgusted with everything that is associated with the desire just to earn, to suppress others, to be proud of how much money you have in the bank compared to others.

Exit from the crisis will not be easy. People will not really want to go back to their previous lives. They will suddenly feel that it is not easy, that they have some other attitude compared to the pre-coronavirus period. At least we will not be opening barbershops for dogs and things like that on every corner. There will be no unnecessary business. People will be confined to more normal universal values.

Nature itself will no longer allow us to do this, along with the sociological situation. There will be up to 70% unemployment in the world and we will not be able to create completely unnecessary positions for them.

It may not be the future of tomorrow, but Kabbalah suggests that this 70% should be moved to universal education and paid a stipend the size of their salary. The remaining 20 to 30% of the population will be engaged in necessary, vital work for humanity, not in order to sell, buy, and then sell for even more.

This is how I see the immediate future. I very much hope that it will be so because if not now, then after a while we will still come to this.

We are also part of nature, and it will not allow us to further pollute the environment, waste natural resources, and so on because we have already reached a reasonable limit. This is why all kinds of viruses are emerging. We still have many similar surprises from nature ahead of us. I believe that the coronavirus is the first stage of purification for us.

If someone wants to open something or create some business, they should act normally, sensibly, with a strong probability that they are doing something that people need and that they really cannot manage without.

Have The Right Thoughts

Laitman_630.2Question: We know that not all people have a sense of awareness. How can they rebuild that?

Answer: They can. What is man? Every minute he has a thousand different thoughts, among which more correct ones will arise.

It all depends only on what kind of environment he falls into. Therefore, it is necessary to organize the correct environment around us, then the right thoughts will arise and we will quickly go forward.

laitman_294.2Question: A month ago, in our conversation about the pandemic, we hoped that everything wouldn’t be so scary. You said that the coronavirus is like a sign to humanity to come to the right interactions.

And now the result for today: If a month ago there were 2 million cases in the world, today—8.3 million. [14.7 million] If the dead were 135,000 , today it is 450,000 [610,000].

In America, the number of deaths exceeded the number of deaths from the 1957 pandemic. Then it lasted two years and 116,000 people died, and today in America over the past two months, 120,000 people have died. This is more than the number of Americans that perished in the First World War, and more than perished in all US wars since 1950: Korean, Vietnamese, Afghan, and all other conflicts combined.

However, no unity is visible. Of course, there are some cases of generosity. America suddenly began to give other countries mechanical ventilators. China claims that once it makes the vaccine, it will provide the whole world with it. But it all smells slightly of egoism, an attempt to prove who is better.

What do you think about this?

Answer: So far, the suffering that humanity is experiencing has led to nothing. People are just waiting for it to end in order to return to their businesses, to lose as little as possible, and maybe even make money on it.

Such an attitude automatically continues to work in us, so I believe that the virus should continue to work on humanity, and very seriously.

Humanity is thinking about how to save old businesses by giving out money for occupations that in the future will be completely inoperative.

Governments do not understand that the time has come to think only about the essentials and to leave everything else to self-education, self-discipline, the restructuring of society. They hope to revive boutiques, jewelry stores, and expensive cars, etc. In short, society is still living by its past values.

Therefore, I do not even see the beginning of this pandemic. Several hundred thousand people have died. For the world, this is not a loss at all. A certain number of people suffer, and the rich profit and are happy with it. So, everything is relative.
