Transition to Faith above Reason

232.03Question: If I transition from my reason to faith above reason, does that mean I am hiding from the Creator?

Answer: No, it is impossible to hide from the Creator. Ask that He reveals Himself to us and brings us closer to Him—that, we must do. So let us ask for this.

The transition to faith above reason gives us the ability to sense the Creator. This marks the beginning of higher attainment.

The True Desire to Merge with the Creator

276.02Question: What is the true desire to merge with the Creator?

Answer: The true desire to be in union with the Creator is the willingness to give absolutely everything for it. Check that you do not have a greater desire than this.

Question: How can you bring your desire to the point that you are ready to do anything to merge with the Creator? Is this a matter of individual desire or mutual inclusion of desires?

Answer: It is each person’s desire.

Question: How do you bring your desire to this state? After all, it seems unnatural for a healthy person.

Answer: This is not true. We must ask the Creator, and He will do everything.

Multiple Purifications

177.06Question: It is written that “He who comes to purify is aided.” What does it mean that I am ready to purify myself? How can I check this?

Answer: It means that you wish to bestow and you feel that you cannot do so since you only have the desire to receive, to somehow benefit from bestowal. That is what you see in your desires, and you begin to turn to the Creator, and ask and beg Him to correct you. Then, the Creator gradually begins to do so.

Question: Why does this happen multiple times?

Answer: Because the desires to receive or to bestow are very large. They encompass all of Malchut of the world of infinity. Thus, we must repeatedly attempt to correct our desires from receiving to bestowal.

From Intention to Action

219.01Question: It is written that one who comes to purify is aided in thought because one can only overcome in action, not in intention. What actions are we talking about? After all, we always say that the hardest thing is to maintain the right intention.

Answer: Indeed, the hardest thing is to maintain the right intention. A person’s actions involve giving something to someone or helping someone in some way.

But they can only do this when they see some benefit for themselves. If they don’t see any benefit, then accordingly they can’t do anything.

However, in spiritual work, everything is the opposite. A person must perform the act of bestowal in everything, regardless of whether they feel any benefit from it or not.

Question: Does it mean that we choose the act of bestowal and pray to the Creator to give us the right intention?

Answer: Yes, the action doesn’t necessarily have to be directed at bestowal; it can also involve receiving. The main thing is that the intention is for bestowal.

Without Overlooking the Creator

623Question: If we intend to bestow to our friends, but overlook bestowing to the Creator, is such an intention considered pure and correct?

Answer: This is an incorrect intention because we must achieve the desire to bestow to  the Creator. We can realize this desire only through bestowing to the friends, and then what we bestow to them, the Creator feels.

Question: How can we also include the required direction to the Creator in this action?

Answer: First we must attain the desire to bestow to the Creator, and then, for the sake of this, we will be able to bestow to our friends as well.

942Question: How can there be action in overcoming the attribute of reception without an intention? Why isn’t the intention primary?

Answer: We can perform actions under compulsion because we are forced or scared. However, intentions can only be changed if the light of the Creator descends upon us and corrects them from receiving to bestowing.

Question: At what stage in the group should we emphasize intention by checking to ensure that it is directed toward giving?

Answer: From the very beginning.

Question: How can I verify through the ten that I am correctly forming my intention and that I am fully immersed in it?

Answer: For this, you must be connected with one another and feel to what extent you want to help your friends, to bestow to them, to pray to the Creator for them. Then you will see how much you yearn to bestow.

Correction of the Desires

276.01Question: Is the Shechina in the dust the uncorrected parts we must correct? Is this what the Torah is?

Answer: No, the Torah is our corrected desires filled with the light of the Creator. We are talking about our desires as they are now in the process of correction, completely opposite, shattered, distant from each other, and disconnected. But we desire to bind them together.

By rising above the dust of the Shechina, we appeal to it to raise it out of the dust, to elevate it, and thereby illuminate it.

Impulsive Behavior

627.2Question: Why are women so different and individualistic in our world?

Answer: Because in our world a woman is more varied in her corporeal properties, and a man is more diverse in his spiritual properties.

He has a greater craving for spirituality than a woman. Women have it in greater quantity but lesser quality. A woman begins to engage in something spiritual and quickly weakens and gets filled, but a man does not.

Question: At the same time, we see that most of your students are women. How can you explain this?

Answer: Because they rush toward spirituality, but they close-off very quickly.

Comment: I hope one day I will be able to understand myself, this soaring that jolts up and cools down. Even in everyday life, some leaps of desire are characteristic for me: choosing clothes, doing this and that. Of course, I am exaggerating now. But these are like impulses that I do not know how to curb.

My Response: In general, all these impulses, of course, are more inherent in women. This is due to their cycles and other characteristics. Even women’s suffering is more outwardly visible, while men’s is deep inside.

Question: When you see women suffering, you do not always know how to help. There are even dead-end situations when you want to help, but it is impossible. Is there any advice?

Answer: I cannot give you any advice. You can show some sympathy and limit yourself to this; otherwise, you will drown in this and be pulled into it yourself. A woman likes to perform. She wants sympathy and involvement; that is why she behaves like this.

943Question: How is prayer formed in the heart?

Answer: A prayer is formed in the heart when I begin to feel that my friends and I have a common connection but something is not moving forward. This is the state you are in right now. Something is not moving forward.

What is the reason that we are not progressing? And here we have a very clear realization that everything depends not on us, but on the Creator. And the prayer is very simple: we want to unite with each other so that by our unification, by rising above our individual egos, we can bring Him contentment because in this way we become like Him.

It is by our similarity to the Creator that we bring Him contentment. What does it consist of? It consists of efforts on our part to unite so that He can fill our unity with Himself, dwell within us, and thus enjoy that He is within the soul, within creation.

And then there are many different feelings and studies, which represent a clear revelation of the science of Kabbalah. That is, the dependencies between Aviut, Massach, Partzuf, the connection between the parts in the Partzuf: Bina, Malchut, Keter, and so on.

The connections between us and with the Creator are just like novels, symphonies. Moreover, they are simultaneously both sensory and mental, and one complements the other.

This does not exist in our world. And if it does, it is only partially, when a person understands music and at the same time understands its foundation, its relationships, the influence on hearing, on the adaptation of our internal sensations to sounds, even to frequencies, in what conjugation they can be, and so on. I have not seen such an example in our world like music.
