“The Wicked Will Prepare and the Righteous Will Wear”

13.03Question: It is said: “The wicked will prepare and the righteous will wear.” How do we build these properties in the ten?

Answer: The point is that such a state can exist even in one person when he wants to do a spiritual action but still has intentions for his own sake.

However, while doing spiritual work, he gradually corrects himself and acts for the sake of the Creator.

Question: What does a righteous person wear on Purim: the Light of Hassadim or Hochma?

Answer: On the holiday of Purim, he wears the level he reaches.

Freedom of Choice Is in the Middle Line

232.05Question: If the Creator helps Satan (evil spirits) and its influence increases, what is my freedom of choice?

Answer: Nature consists of two opposing forces. Your freedom of choice is always in the middle so that you would walk along the middle line and not the left or right.

Satan is egoism; the Creator does not help him or helps only to the extent necessary to balance your positive properties. In this case, He makes your desire correct and balanced on both sides of nature.

What a Person Receives Is what He Deserves

212Question: We always begin the work in Lo Lishma (for the sake of receiving) and then are given the property of Lishma (for the sake of bestowal). At this point, the accuser asks, “Why are they being given these sublime things that they did not work for or hope for?” What is the cunningness of the accusation in this case?

Answer: The accuser is wrong because it is supposedly impossible to achieve the right state if you have not gone through the wrong ones. He thinks: how is it possible that someone is given the state of a righteous person when he was not a sinner and did not earn righteousness for himself?

Question: So he is confusing us because we did not earn it?

Answer: Yes, the fact is that what a person receives is what he deserves.

Questions about Spiritual Work—99

630.2Question: How do I return to the internal part of the study when I feel a strong separation?

Answer: By efforts and only by efforts. Always be among friends and you will avoid separation.

Question: Why does Baal HaSulam’s article “He Who Ceases Words of Torah and Engages in Conversation” (Shamati, 234) categorically say not to interrupt Torah studies in any case? As if our achievements are going to be lost?

Answer: You cannot break away, not because your achievements will be lost, but because when you leave the Torah, you allow the opposite forces to take over you.

Question: What should you do if your family begins to oppress you because you have taken up Kabbalah and begun to teach you how to live? What should one do?

Answer: Bow your head quietly, listen to what they say, and promise them that you will devote less time to this.

Question: Is a mutual request to the Creator enough to connect us and do everything the way He wants, or is it still necessary to scrutinize where we are and what we need now?

Answer: Do what you can. Ask the Creator for what you think is necessary, and you will gradually learn how to turn to Him and rise in asking questions.

Question: What should we do with envy that suddenly emerges and instantly burns everything? Is there a way to get ahead so it does not cause harm?

Answer: Pray always that envy does not defeat you, but that you would defeat envy.

Question: When we read an article together, is it worthwhile interrupting for discussion, or is it better to finish reading to the end, even if there is no time left for discussion?

Answer: It is better to read the article to the end.

Purity of Thoughts

510.01Question: What is the danger of slander in a Kabbalistic society of people who unite and want to reach the Creator in a small group?

Answer: The purpose of Kabbalah is to lead us to the revelation of the Creator, to equivalence with Him, so that a person adhering to the Creator would urge Him to correct our world, and humanity would ascend to the highest level of its existence.

Therefore, Kabbalah advocates the correct use of the urge to slander, to clarify. I think we have it ahead of us.

Question: There is a state when a student slanders his teacher, in his thoughts, not out loud. How can we deal with this, and what should we do about it?

Answer: This is bad. Verbal expressions or just thoughts of one person, of course, differ from the thoughts of other people nearby. But, in general, if we calculate according to his sensations, his inner feelings are first accounted. And if we are talking about some kind of higher court, a court of justice, of truth, then everything that one thinks of another is revealed, and calculations are performed based on them.

Question: What should one do if one cannot control his negative thoughts toward a friend or a teacher?

Answer: Ask the Creator to guard him and not give him the opportunity to fall into such thoughts and harm.

What Does a Hint of Ridicule Lead To?

215Question: There are many jokes circulating in the world where characters laugh at other people, nations, and their vices. Are such sarcastic jokes considered slander?

Answer: Yes, of course! Even with a hint of mockery.

For example, if you laugh at a small child seemingly with love, there is still some contempt in it, and to the extent of this hidden contempt, you already fall under the charge of slander.

Comment: But you once said that humor, when people or a nation can laugh at their vices, is good.

My Response: Yes, it is good. It all depends on the intention behind it and what we ultimately achieve.

Agree among Yourselves and Act!

243.01Question: What does it mean to engage in the Torah study continuously?

Answer: This is only possible if you are connected, inspire one another, and set an example.

Then you will be able to be connected with the correction of the Torah in the outin, outin states. You must constantly strive for such a state.

Agree between yourselves, like in RAMHAL’s group where each person chose a specific hour of the day for spiritual work, studied excerpts from sources or the Torah, and thought about their friends all the time. In this way they moved forward constantly.

Question: Can the entire ten periodically renew these commitments? How is it best to do this?

Answer: In an orderly fashion, according to a schedule, so that someone from the then is always engaged in it. Agree among yourselves and act.
