What a Person Receives Is what He Deserves

212Question: We always begin the work in Lo Lishma (for the sake of receiving) and then are given the property of Lishma (for the sake of bestowal). At this point, the accuser asks, “Why are they being given these sublime things that they did not work for or hope for?” What is the cunningness of the accusation in this case?

Answer: The accuser is wrong because it is supposedly impossible to achieve the right state if you have not gone through the wrong ones. He thinks: how is it possible that someone is given the state of a righteous person when he was not a sinner and did not earn righteousness for himself?

Question: So he is confusing us because we did not earn it?

Answer: Yes, the fact is that what a person receives is what he deserves.
