“Road Rage? Shame Them” (Times of Israel)

Michael Laitman, On The Times of Israel: “Road Rage? Shame Them

Over the past two years, there has been a 20 percent increase in violent incidents on Israel’s roads. A few days ago, a couple crossing the street on a crosswalk was almost run over by a motor scooter. When they confronted the driver, he stabbed the man who confronted him and casually drove off, leaving the stabbed man to die.

A few days earlier, a motorcyclist did not like a comment from a car driver, so he knocked him unconscious with his helmet. In yet another recent incident, a driver threatened another driver with a knife, but resolved to slashing “only” the other car’s tires.

The spate of violent incidents is not something that a small country like Israel is used to seeing. In my opinion, the best solution to this problem is public exposure and shaming.

Nothing is more effective than hurting someone’s pride. The scooter driver who killed the man showed no sign of remorse when he was arrested. But if he had known that society would excommunicate him if he did this, that he would not be able to find a job, raise a family, or have friends because people would not want him around them, he would have thought ten times before reacting so brutally.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant for contamination. Likewise, exposure is the best cleanser for people’s misdeeds. The identity of such criminals should be known to everyone, including the details of their offense, and they should be severely punished and disgraced.

In addition to humiliation, the government and all the authorities should have zero tolerance for murderous bullies. There needs to be a consolidated, uncompromising effort to curb such behavior, and public opinion should support this policy.

Road rage can affect anyone. Especially today, when people are growing increasingly narcissistic and feel more and more entitled, they are more likely to become violent for no apparent reason. For this reason, I believe that only a powerful motivation that touches people’s most selfish interests can stop them from putting other road users at risk.

Mutual Guarantee: A Guiding Beacon

936Mutual guarantee is the interconnection of everyone in everyone to the point where it is impossible to make even the slightest movement independently of others. Any movement is transmitted to everyone else, depends on everyone, and is implemented by everyone together.

Thus, due to separate, discrete actions, we come to an integral, indissoluble movement of the entire system. This is mutual guarantee.

Mutual guarantee is our cherished goal, a guiding beacon, to which we are constantly moving with the help of actions to unite in the ten and actions to annul ourselves in front of our friends. The goal of all these actions is to eventually lead us to a unity in which everyone does not exist separately. We dissolve into each other to such an extent that we turn into a homogeneous liquid in which not a single drop differs from another, but all merge into one big drop.

Mutual guarantee means that we have reached such a power of connection that I no longer separate myself from others because we are turning into one person again. Moreover, one person after this correction is no longer the Adam who was before the shattering.

That original Adam consisted of different parts: head, body, legs (Rosh – Toch – Sof), male and female parts. And after correction, it is Adam, like (Domeh) the Creator, because there is no division into Rosh – Toch – Sof, no division into any parts, but rather he is as one whole.

When we want to achieve such a connection between friends, we find out that it is impossible to realize a mutual guarantee between us without the Creator. And then we turn to Him and oblige Him to become the guarantor of our mutual guarantee.

Language That Is Close to Current Generation

209From the point of view of the digital-analog presentation of information and its sensations, four languages are used in Kabbalah.

The language in which the Torah is described is everyday, narrative, and literary. The language of The Zohar is descriptive with hints, all kinds of legends, and examples that are sometimes far from life. The language of the Talmud is a legal language. The language of Kabbalah is a mathematical language; I would say it is physical and mathematical.

These four languages give us, in general, four styles of describing the same events in the soul within a person. All of them complement each other. For our generation, the best is the last language, the Kabbalistic one.

All languages describe the same thing: degrees of the states that you must reproduce in yourself and feel sensorially in an analog form, and thus advance step by step.

Still, scientific perception, that is, The Study of the Ten Sefirot is the closest to us. It was mainly developed in the 16th century AD by the Ari. Then Baal HaSulam complemented it and adapted it to our generation. Therefore, for us it is the most reliable system of presentation and application.

Generosity of Strength

961Comment: You said that martial arts compensate for the lack of egoism.

My Response: No, I was talking about something else, about the generosity of strength. A strong person who does not have to defend himself all the time can be generous.

Next to a very strong person, I can even be bullying him, I know that he will not break me. After all, we both understand how weak I am relative to him, and therefore I can sort of be on an equal footing with him, or even, maybe, bully him a little, like a child with an adult.

If there really is a clear difference between us, then it is understandable that we both recognize how much stronger he is than me. Therefore, strength, not necessarily physical, but the strength of any kind, the superiority of one over the other, allows a person to be magnanimous.

True, today this is no longer the case. But, in principle, strong, healthy, powerful people by nature, in general, are generous. It is natural. However, if they just pumped up their muscles, then their evil essence remains in them.

This is a big difference between a naturally strong person like Ivan Poddubny (a famous Russian wrestler) and a modern athlete who has no generosity inside. It is like giving an evil man a gun, give him power, pump him up, and now he uses it.

In all kinds of competitions, battles, or duels, there have always been certain codes on how to behave with the enemy. They emphasized the special character of a person, namely his generosity next to strength.

Identify with the Entire World

254.02Question: Do you have self-identification?

Answer: No, I am trying to be a machine, a robot, that is, to direct all my desires, thoughts, and goals as much as possible in such a way as to function for the sake of the desires of others for correction.

Comment: But at the same time for a long time you were a fairly big egoist who developed throughout life.

My Response: I am now an even bigger egoist, frankly speaking.

Question: But all the same, all your life you were in some way identifying yourself as Michael Laitman. You could not become like that right away, could you?

Answer: No, of course not! Such a thing happens after twenty years.

I got acquainted with Kabbalah in 1976, and since then I have practically not torn myself away from it. I did everything that was necessary to support myself, but in general, I acted in everything only in order to find a teacher, learn, and develop further. This is movement from within.

Question: At what point did you begin to identify yourself with the entire world?

Answer: Back in the early 80s I spoke with Rabash about the fact that, as Baal HaSulam wrote, the world from 1995 will be completely different. Before that, I talked to him about Baal HaSulam’s dream to create a commune, something where people would work together, provide for themselves, and engage in Kabbalah, and most importantly, in internal work among themselves. We talked a little about these topics, but it was all fantasy, utopian.

Then the world really began to change very dramatically, especially after Rabash passed away. He left this world, and the world became completely different. Not for me; I still had the same spiritual contact with him, an even stronger one.

Question: How is it possible that say, a Kabbalist dies and the world changes dramatically?

Answer: The presence of a Kabbalist on the corporeal level means a lot. Although spiritual energy has nothing to do with all kinds of objects in our world, it is still of great importance.

The Insidious Intent of the Creator

562.02Comment: An anonymous quip is circulating on the Internet.

How do children treat you?
Like God.
How is that?
They almost do not listen to me; they do not fulfill my requests. Sometimes they pretend that I do not exist, but when they need something, they immediately cry out.

Answer: That is right.

Question: Our lack of feeling even toward a parent, what is it? We are talking about the Creator here with you.

Answer: When we need egoistically, then we appeal to them. And when we have no need, it is better that they do not exist. This is very clear.

Comment: As your teacher used to say: “Close your mouth, open your pocket.”

Answer: Yes, that is the attitude of children.

Question: You always call upon the fact that a person, one way or another, must attain the force that controls him. How can this happen? Only in the state, as it says here: “When they need something, they call you right away”?

Answer: When you are pinned to the wall, then no one will help you—only the Creator. And then you will turn to Him. And you will try to find a connection with Him.

Question: So, the revelation of the Creator can only be under pressure?

Answer: Of course! Man is an egoist.

Comment: It strikes me that only under pressure, only from hunger, only from fear, only from this can our governance be revealed.

My Response: Only from suffering.

Comment: Such is our simple body…

My Response: The Creator created it this way. What do you want? Go to Him and complain.

Question: Go to Him? I see. One way or another, definitely, after all the pressures, will the revelation happen?

Answer: Yes.

Question: And what will we reveal?

Answer: That everything He did He created on purpose, out of good intent, insidiously, in order to eventually lead us to such a development that we would justify His entire creation, that through creation we would justify Him and find our rest.

Thoughts and Desires Bind Together

565.02All the problems and troubles in this world are the result of the revelation of the lack of mutual guarantee (Arvut), which is increasing. Therefore, we need our behavior to be correct, to return to even our ordinary material connection and mutual guarantee.

All diseases are caused by violations of the law of mutual guarantee at the biological, zoological, botanical, or social level.

There are many levels of compliance with the law of mutual guarantee, but the highest is the love of one’s neighbor as oneself. In physical and chemical form, substances bind together, and at higher levels, people’s thoughts and desires bind together. In this perfect system, which is the universe, all the galaxies are connected to each other, that is, everything depends on mutual guarantee.

The pyramid of mutual guarantee includes the inanimate level at its base, then the vegetative, the animate, and above all, the human level. If we, are above all nature, at the top of the pyramid, fulfill the condition of mutual guarantee (Arvut)  in our desires and thoughts, in our mind and heart, this will affect all the levels below us. This will calm the whole of nature and bring it back to its integral form.

Nature will begin to behave according to the law of mutual guarantee between all its parts in all spheres. And then, of course, we will not have any health problems in the family, in human society, or even in the environment.

It is not possible to fix the environment by burning less oil or taking other protective measures, but only by implementing the law of mutual guarantee at the top of the pyramid where we are. By doing this, we will oblige all of nature below us to return to balance, reciprocity, and harmony.

The action of physical forces or the interaction of chemical substances according to their valences, according to the number of electrons around the atom, which bind together and build new substances—all these are the laws of mutual guarantee, which are revealed in different forms. All the laws of nature are manifestations of one global law.

Even the laws of human relations, psychology, and social life are part of a detailed explanation of the same global law of mutual guarantee, which we must fulfill in its entirety in order to reveal our connection with the Creator within this law. By doing this, we add our part to the Creator, and He adds His to us, and we reach the state of “He and His Name are one.”

“Why is there violence in Israel right now?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Why is there violence in Israel right now?

One of my students recently asked me about the rise in violence among Jews in Israel after the tragic murder of 18-year-old Yoel Lhanghal by a group of young adults at a birthday party in the northern-Israeli city of Kiryat Shmona.

Indeed, we are headed in a negative direction, toward a state called “the recognition of evil,” i.e. recognition that our ego is behind the various tragedies and misfortunes that we experience.

The ego burns within each of us and it is growing. It is making us intolerant of anyone who is a bit different from us. That is how it is supposed to be, because it is a law of nature that we become increasingly opposite from nature’s altruistic quality until we gain awareness of what we actually are—egoists—become sick of how we host this negative egoistic quality within us (the “recognition of evil”), and develop a sincere desire to change ourselves. However, in the meantime, we are not doing anything toward a positive transition, and so from one day to the next, we become ever more evil.

In relation to Yoel’s murder, his father said “How could a Jew murder another Jew?” We have reached such a state because we do not want to educate ourselves about our egoistic nature and how to transform it into its positive opposite. In short, we do not want to become good people toward each other.

Why? It is because we reject anything that goes against our egoistic nature. Our nature is a great big ego, which wishes to enjoy at the expense of others, and it is written about our nature that it is an “evil inclination.” It was given to us on purpose so that we could rise above it.

We can rise above our ego by working with each other on developing relations of love, giving and positive connection. Developing relations of love, giving and positive connection means that we first need to understand that we are interdependent and that we cannot exist without each other, even though we currently hate each other. And the transition point is the recognition of evil: that we acknowledge that we are the evildoers in the world, and that the world’s well-being—humanity’s shift to a positive direction—depends on us.

While the egoistic and altruistic forces are opposites, we can make the shift from hatred to love if we develop a desire for it to happen. As such, there is a good reason for antisemitism’s rise worldwide. More and more people feel that the Jews are responsible for various forms of suffering proliferating throughout humanity.

What we lack is a desire and a method for how to improve the situation. No one wants things to be bad, but we have to know that it depends on us. Also, we should know the method for shifting from an increasingly negative direction to a positive one.

Through education about our nature and what is required to change it, we need to first reach an agreement that the evil resides within us, in the way we treat each other, our fellow Jews. If we change our attitude toward each other from negative to positive, then we will see how the increasingly negative attitude from humanity toward us will also change. In its place, we will see that everyone will treat us favorably and respectfully. We will then also find that we will not need to discuss how to make peace with our neighbors, because all the pieces will fall into place: more and more people will feel a positive force illuminating from the people of Israel, and will wish to support the positive connection that we develop with each other above the growing ego.
