The first stage of spiritual work is acquiring awareness of work in the ten. The main thing is that everyone supports one’s ten, without letting anyone lose the impression of the greatness of the group, the Creator, the path, and our special destiny as a great gift.
This is checked during a descent when we do not feel the filling but are ready to remain in the state of bestowal for the sake of bestowal, Hafetz Hesed. That is, I lost everything, my last shirt, but I do not feel any deficiency. If I have nothing, it is all right that I have nothing; if I have something, that is fine too. I try to keep on such a “diet” when I am glad with what I receive and do not demand more. It is written: “a Hasid is one who is content with what he has.” Joy is the sign of the Light of Hassadim, the state of Katnut, the small state.
If nothing shines for me and I have no filling, I feel good too. I accept it as an opportunity given from above to check what I am doing this for. Am I in Hassadim, in a state of Katnut? If I am dissatisfied and demand filling, cursing the darkness, then I have not reached the state of Katnut.
In fact, I am not in the dark because the upper Light fills the entire universe. The upper Light is mercy, Hassadim, and I just do not feel it. Therefore, all the work begins with achieving the state of Hafetz Hesed. This is already faith, although not complete, in which there will be illumination of Hochma, but for now, it is only Hassadim.
And it is checked at the time when the Light goes out and we feel darkness in our desires to receive. Can we agree that we need nothing more than to stay on the path adhering to the friends and the Creator despite the darkness? That is, we work “at night,” choosing the right direction in order to “make for yourself a Rav and buy yourself a friend,” to be at the lesson every day. Such an attitude to all the states through which the Creator moves us will be the correct test of our work.1
First, we reach a small state, Hafetz Hesed, bestowal for the sake of bestowal, Hassadim. And then inside this Light of Hassadim, we receive the illumination of Hochma in order to transmit it to others. In order to bestow to others, we need to use our own AHP.
To others, we bestow Hassadim, correcting the bestowing desires in them, but for this, we need to use our desires to receive. The Light of Hochma is revealed in our AHP, and we transmit the Light of Hassadim from it to GE (Galgalta ve Eynaim) of the lower one. This means that “blood turns into milk.”2
I must give all my strength to my ten in order to bring my friends to connection. I take from them their desires, the greatness of the Creator, the greatness of the goal, as it is written: “They helped everyone his friend.” No one can help himself. Each one by himself can reach the state of Hafetz Hesed, bestowal for the sake of bestowal, only at one point and not more.
And then, one must develop oneself in relation to the ten, leading them to the state in which one’s friends have no deficiency. We are connected to each other only due to mutual bestowal. I want nothing for myself, but I have to give to others, and therefore, I open my desires to receive for the sake of bestowal and allow a friend to bestow to me.
For example, when I would come to visit my mother, I would always say that I was hungry so that she could feed me and enjoy that. For me, this was not called receiving because I knew that she wanted to feed me more than I wanted to eat and I had to give her this opportunity. It is the same between friends, because otherwise, we will not develop one another. It is written: “Go and earn from each other.” No one can earn by himself.3

Question from Facebook: The awareness that we are controlled and not free in the choice of events upsets me. We absolutely cannot influence the programmed timeline we exist and function in. So why do we need a lot of knowledge if we cannot use it?
Answer: Indeed, a lot of knowledge overwhelms a person and leads him to sadness and many sorrows.
However, you will be pleased to know that correct, good knowledge reduces all our sorrows and, on the contrary, leads to making things easier by understanding how everything is arranged, understanding the transparent vision of the entire world and of this whole system, and how it interacts in great harmony. This wondrous harmony of the entire system of the universe is called “the Creator.”
We need to reveal this system, this harmony, so that it will play within us, and then everything will be simple, felt, clear, and for our own good.
Question: Are we really controlled and not free to choose events?
Answer: No. At the same time, you will discover how you can participate in the movement of the general creation, of all the souls, at all times and at all levels toward the one common goal: the great unity, connection, and similarity with the Creator.
This goal is very beautiful. Maybe it is distant, but you will see it and you will be able to participate in it, near it, and enter it. So, you are invited!

New Life #137 – Social Networking and the Evolution of Human Life
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
Summary
The evolution of human life is in the connection between increasingly opposing parts. We have an egoistic desire to be alone and we subsequently come to understand that there is nothing to live for in isolation. We create social networks because they develop our senses for absorbing the world and life itself. A social network is like a game or adventure in which we search for the spiritual dimension, the inner energy, or the soul. From the beginning of the 20th century, the great need for connection was awakened and developed through radio, television, and finally, the Internet. It is impossible to restrict this innate desire for connection. Rather, we need to be educated according to what contributes to the tendency of nature to connect all of us as one. All of nature is a network without wires, adapters, and waves. Within it, we begin to feel a new life, beyond time, movement, and location. A platform rises from the Earth to a new dimension. We build a kind of bubble, which is like a vessel that flies between galaxies. Sharing takes on a life of its own. Establishing unity between a small circle of people within the network elevates the entire system to new heights based on open, whole, and positive communication.

The whole multitude of contradictions, incompatible with the Creator’s unity, and separate us from coming closer to Him—after our efforts, relate everything to Him. All the forces of separation and contradictions become, on the contrary, revelation of the attainment of His wisdom and #singularity.
You will soon feel that a descent evokes joy. Because everything depends on one’s attitude to it: as merely to a state or as a means to attain the goal. What’s more important…
A professional is happy about problems: it enables him to express his mastery …
… to create or attain something new.
The Temple isn’t a building, but connection between us. Breakage of the connection is the destruction of the Temple, when instead of connection and love, hatred dwells among us. Hence we feel no connection between us today. This state is called exile (from unity).
Connection depends on us!
“All that exists, good or bad, and even the most harmful things in the world, have a right to exist. No phenomenon may be extinguished or destroyed. Our mission is only to correct it, return it to goodness and similarity to the Creator.” (Baal HaSulam, “Peace in the World”)
“The completion of any quality lies in transforming it into a lofty and important quality. Hence one that eradicates any quality elicits the disappearance from the world of that which must manifest in the future correction, since that quality will never again appear in the world.” (Baal HaSulam, “Freedom of Will”)
The growing ego directs us only toward receiving pleasures. The inability to continuously feel pleasure is the reason for the disease of the 21st century—#depression. It arises from an infantile view of life where one strives to turn one’s hobby into one’s occupation.
If one has decided to replace one’s goal in life, instead of reward for oneself for the effort to give pleasure to the Creator, give up the reward since this aim is against his nature; one needs the Creator’s help, faith in the Creator, i.e., revelation of the Creator’s greatness—to that extent one can perform bestowal to the Creator.
The time of the #EU’s formation has passed; it’s time to grow up, meaning that each EU country must rise above its contradictions with other countries, in order to strengthen the common union. #Europe
This is where the EU’s ignorance regarding how to build an alliance OVER the contradictions manifests. But they must! Otherwise, the EU will disintegrate.
#EuropeanUnion
Descent is the revelation of greater precision in our unity, where I am not yet bonded with the group and must now connect.
All states, from enormous fulfillment to total emptiness, must be used to justify the Creator, to respect and thank Him for the opportunity to ascertain our attitude to Him in various states, independently of what we receive from Him.
Man’s mission in this world is to succeed in annulling himself to the Creator, as if there’s no “I,” egoism. One then attains the degree of Bina and can reveal one’s egoism, but already transforming it to “for the Creator’s sake.”
Therefore always envision yourself in front of the Creator and aim all your thoughts “for His sake.”
The most essential is a sense of the importance of the goal, the Greatness one serves. Otherwise, there is no strength to serve the Creator. Ask to get to know the greatness of the Creator, to realize the joy of serving the King.
In the degree of the Creator’s importance is the pleasure to serve Him, causing one to desire to work, to merit more strength, feeling that one is serving the King.
In the degree of the sensation of evil, the Creator conceals Himself—and this is the greatest punishment! A person’s perception of good or evil in the Creator’s governance determines whether he feels rewarded or punished.
The one who makes effort to trust the Creator while feeling unkind management is rewarded. The one who doesn’t is punished by His concealment.
All souls come from one common soul of Adam, which, due to egoism’s revelation in it, disintegrated into separate parts that reject each other. The light filling it, of upper attainment and the Creator, divided into parts that give each part a sensation of just our world.
We have just one council: to try and attain the Creator’s greatness, so the only reward for our efforts will be feeling the Creator’s greatness, concealed from us by the ego. We ask the Creator to remove the concealment in order to feel His greatness …
… for the studies to give us the sensation of His greatness and importance.
Ascent is a state where I can justify everything happening to me, justify the group and friends who help me realize my freedom of will, to attain the goal. From this state I can build myself, my attitude to the Creator, who becomes revealed within that state.
To have energy to work for the sake of bestowal without reward, and for the work itself to be the reward, one must have faith in the Creator—which means having faith in His greatness. When the Creator’s greatness is felt, one is ready to work without any reward.
The work itself is the reward.
If there’s an intention to bestow to the Creator, then wishing to add to the work, one must add to the Creator’s greatness, for in the degree of the Creator’s greatness one can cancel himself and perform bestowal actions.
Therefore, always strive to enhance the greatness of the Creator. It will oblige you to work for Him and give you pleasure from the work.

In the News (Jewish Virtual Library): “To date, 27 states have adopted laws that are designed to discourage boycotts against Israel. Separately, the U.S. Congress is considering making anti-boycott legislation as well in reaction to the BDS movement [Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions – anti-Israel].
Question: Pro-Israel lobbies press for this legislation. Do you think this approach makes sense?
Answer: No. Nothing can be done by force or prohibitions. On the contrary, it will further aggravate and cause anger, etc.
Egoism is growing in us every day, at every second. If we don’t fix it, if we don’t shape it properly, if we don’t reformat it correctly, then it will only continue getting worse.
This developing egoism is an indicator that we—the Jews, the people of Israel—are not implementing our correction.
Remark: It is very hard to accept that we are at fault. It is almost impossible for a person to accept that he is at fault, even more so for a Jew.
My Comment: What can be done if it is a law of nature? Why should I believe myself and not believe several millions of people who say it is my fault?
Question: Do I have to believe them?
Answer: Don’t believe them. Where is the truth? Who can say? Therefore, we turn to Kabbalah, our ancient teaching, where it all has been disclosed.
In The Book of Zohar and the Torah and everywhere it is said that the people of Israel must bring change, a method of correction, to the peoples of the world, to show them how to be corrected, to pass on this power, and to teach them. If not, then, of course, the nations of the world will, like in ancient Egypt, have claims against the people of Israel.
Thus, there is no way around it. All of nature, all of history, is aimed at explaining that we are to blame for everything.
Question: Do you think that you’ll be able to change the way people think?
Answer: They will listen for a long time, be indignant, but when the time comes, when they feel a real threat, then it is quite possible that a moment before they are led again to extermination, they will come to their senses and be able to make the proper correction.
Question: Do you think that this moment will turn the whole wheel of history?
Answer: Of course. I have no right to be silent. Have no right! I have to talk about it, shout, beg, do anything.

In order to bring contentment to the Creator, we must have a common desire since nobody’s individual desire is strong enough to be effective. The Creator is the result of our unity and He can only be reached from the center of our connection, the center of the ten. If we as much as aspire to achieve a common desire, we can already be connected with the Creator from that point.
We keep developing and growing this desire in quality and quantity. The main thing is for each of us to check what kind of desire is inside of him and how determined he is at every moment to contribute it to the common desire, to the common Malchut, aimed at the Creator.1
The storehouse (vessel) of love is faith. Love is the Light of Hochma that transforms into the Light of faith, the Light of Hassadim. We need to develop such a vessel in ourselves in order to receive the Light of love for the Creator.2
It is written that to bestow to a friend is the same as to bestow to the Creator. Regarding my desire to enjoy, it makes no difference whether I bestow to the ten, the group, the world, or the Creator. After all, I separate myself from my desire in order not to receive in it. But in the bestowal itself, there is still a difference whether it is to give to the friends or to the Creator.
It is written that if a person reaches pure love and bestowal toward a friend, he also reaches love and bestowal toward the Creator along with it. With the help of the study and the work in the ten, I have to change my attitude toward the friends in order to see the genuine qualities of the Creator in them. Then, my love for the friends becomes so complete, that the love for the Creator is revealed within it.3
How can you go on with the same power and enthusiasm when you discover that all your actions are egoistic, for the sake of power, pride, selfishness, and the opposite of the correct intention? We understand that we act selfishly and that all our intentions and actions will necessarily be for our own sake. But at the same time, we want to move in the opposite direction. This is called “coming out of the exile in Egypt.”
We are under the power of our egoism, the intention for self alone, the egoistic attitude toward the group. We need to be aware of this and at the same time continue to act with the hope that our actions will become altruistic. Even if we do not yet have the correct intentions but only actions, by this, we attract the Light that reforms.
If our intentions were already altruistic, we would have been working with the inner Light. Now we work with the surrounding Light, and that is the difference—that so far, there is no intention for the sake of bestowal. Even if we are in the ego, in intentions for self alone, but we organize our actions as giving, we awaken the surrounding Light.
Therefore, we exist in the world of actions. After all, we can awaken the Light that reforms while still in the opposite form. This distinguishes the people with the point in the heart. They can feel the existence of bestowal, the Creator, the altruistic connection, but they are incapable of reaching it. They understand the power of bestowal, but they find themselves in the opposite state. Therefore, through their actions, they can cause the influence from the degree of bestowal called the Light that reforms.
Only people who have egoism and the point in the heart inside it, the two opposite qualities, are capable of it. Inside their egos they act forcefully, according to their nature, being in exile, slaves to the Pharaoh. But along with it, urged by the point in the heart, they aim to reach bestowal, escape slavery, and come out of exile. When they feel the glimmer of hope, once again they realize that they cannot break free from the ego, and so on over and over again. Until “the children of Israel sighed because of the work…and their cry went up.”
The two opposite qualities exist only in Israel, in a person aiming straight toward the Creator. He realizes that he is under the control of the will to receive, but at the same time, he is thinking of bestowal, of rising above himself. For him, it is not philosophy or psychology, but the actual purpose of life. He is given this desire within the desire, a spiritual point inside the egoism.4

New Life 136 – The Internet Revolution And Human Connection
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz
The Internet revolution is a wonderful thing because it has greatly accelerated humanity’s development toward a new, integral world. The Internet has broken down borders, increased freedom of expression, and prevents dictators from doing whatever they like in their countries. It brings us closer to being one united, open, accessible, cosmopolitan state with international banks, corporations, and media.
There is also a lot of dirt, lies, hypocrisy, censorship, pornography, and sales on the Internet. Our children surf wherever they please without supervision. The Internet enables a person to be more secluded and to roam the whole world from his private place. It intensifies the ability of a lie to exist and the evil of humanity is openly spread there. This is also good, in a way, since it brings humanity to the recognition of evil. It’s better that this occurs virtually instead of on the streets or through war.
Nevertheless, the Internet cannot replace true, internal, human connection or heal hearts and minds. We used to meet in cafés to talk, learn at school with others, go on family picnics, and hug each other. Today, we meet on Skype, study online, eat pizza in front of the computer, and send emojis to express ourselves. The seclusion and loneliness will lead to outbreaks and diseases because people will need a real educational network of connections to the world without tools, modems, wires, and lies. We will want to feel more. Today’s Internet is an evolutionary springboard to tomorrow’s infinite connection between human hearts, from everyone to everyone.
