One Desire In Two Forms

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You said that while presenting and bringing the integral program to the external public it is possible to mention the existence of a single managing force in nature that we take for granted.

Is it possible to explain that this force can be discovered through experiments in both one’s feelings and mind, but it is necessary to change our nature? And that it is impossible to do this alone; it can only happen in a society?

Answer: Certainly. If you can present all this correctly, then both scientists and ordinary people will understand you. The problem is that science is not connected with psychology. It cannot be connected with the investigation of feelings. In this field, Einstein implemented a slight breakthrough, and then everything became quiet again.

Today, in relation to this, there are all kinds of shifts among physicists and astrophysicists, but so far no science has appeared that is able to connect what has been observed with instruments and what happens in our consciousness.

The problem is in the attainment of reality, meaning, where the reality of our physical senses ends and the new senses, that are created by us collectively, begins.

In principle, only one sense exists, desire. But if I feel this desire within me, then it is on the level of the still, vegetative, and animate. But apparently if I feel the desire outside of me, then this is a desire on the level of Adam (man).

In the meantime, it is still difficult to explain this, but I think that soon we will clarify this question. I hope that I can still get something done and humanity will understand that all of this is our one desire: It seems to us that it is within us or that it is outside of us; we connect it together and get a true picture of creation.

An Unseen Energy That Changes People

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: During the process of disseminating the integral method, I came across something interesting. We were working with the teachers of a school and they said to us that there is nothing new in what we are talking about: unite, be friends, educate children correctly, but we approach this in a different way. What is this “different way”?  Where does this come from?

Answer: In our words, our activities, in everything, a completely different purpose is felt. And it is not the words that are directed towards this goal, rather it is an inner force that exists within these words. This is what they feel. The main thing is that they also feel the result  that your actions, some kind of trace remains that does not exist after other activities.

You come to the external community, apparently entertaining them, and you do some exercises with them. After this, these people go out. Their head is turning in a slightly different direction and they begin to perceive the world differently because in your words and actions exist a higher energy that changes people. It changes them! This means that they cannot say what it was, but they feel that something has changed.

A Picture Of Reality Not Distorted By The Ego

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe don’t see all of the reality that is in front of us only because we don’t want to see it. So, how can we acquire such a desire if we don’t have it? In front of me now are billions of people, but I only want to figure out what I can get from them, if it is useful or harmful, and other than that, they don’t interest me at all. If it is possible to exploit them somehow, then I will do it. But, if I see that they may harm me somehow, then I remove myself from the danger or eliminate it. That is all that interests me.

However, this way, I don’t recognize people. I don’t see them and don’t discover them. Around me is a whole universe, but who knows what is in it? Surely, I don’t understand it and don’t pay attention to it.

However, there is a more correct perception of reality that the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches, a science for perceiving the world that makes it possible to feel all of reality. For this, I must change my feelings. Instead of being concerned about myself (if it is good for me or bad for me, harmful or useful to me), I go outside of myself to the outer world and begin to be concerned about it.

That is, I am searching for how I can serve its benefit or, at least, not harm it.

Because of this, I acquire a sixth sense. In addition to seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching, I begin to feel what is happening outside of me. So, I feel what is really happening, without any interference from my side. I no longer insert all the information inside, process it, and adjust it to fit my interests, as now we look at everything from the point of view of the benefit or harm that it brings to us.

However, if I go outside of myself, then I will see the outer world as it is. I develop the external sense independent of my feelings. If we learn to develop this sense organ, then we reveal the world in which we already exist today but don’t see. Of all of reality, we perceive only a tiny portion called “this world.”

When we just expand our physical senses and produce more developed telescopes and microscopes, it doesn’t change the picture significantly. After all these sensations is the same small, limited egoistic desire. Instead of a desire to receive, I must acquire a desire to bestow that acts for the good of the world outside.

If I act for the good of the other, then I always am absorbing desire from the outside, from all of the still, vegetative, and animate nature, and people, and from all the spiritual forces that are not yet unknown to me: Malachim (angels), Heichalot (palaces), Chayot HaKodesh (sacred animals) and the corrected souls of the great Kabbalists. I take all of the desire from them in order to bestow to them, and, in this way, I increase my Kli in height, width, depth, and intensity; and that is how I encompass all of creation.

Egoism: A Halfpenny Opera

Dr. Michael LaitmanRabash, Dargot HaSulam, article 798, “The Worth of the Small One”: When man receives anything he is given, the Creator becomes his debtor.

Example: a father gives his small son a penny a day. And then love for the son awakens in the father, and he gives him five pennies.

As the small son sees that today he has received a bigger present from the father, he becomes inspired to thank his father for this. But later, when the father gives him one penny as usual, the son becomes filled with anger towards the father because of the loss he has suffered.

It turns out that instead of bringing the son closer to the father, the addition he received yesterday only pushed him away. This is because now the father is his debtor, and the small son wants the father to keep adding every day. And if the father does not do this, then all his gifts are worth nothing.

Man dies when he receives, without having attained even half of what he desires.

It is not easy to properly combine the desire for pleasure and the intention to bestow. From this example we see that we do not understand the Creator. Egoism does not tolerate one-time additions. He perceives any addition as the new norm, and he becomes angry when he does not continue to receive it.

We do not understand that when the Creator subtracts, He gives us more, not less! It is not for the desire to receive pleasure, but for us to acquire the intention to bestow. However, egoism sees the loss: one penny instead of the five it had yesterday.

The son does not understand that he himself must complete the remaining four pennies with his faith, intention, and awareness of the Giver’s greatness. Then, instead of a loss, he will acquire a wonderful gain: similarity to the Creator.

The initial, basic desire was created by the Creator in the form of a black point in the middle of the Upper Light. And it will remain a black point. We carry out everything else, including the highest degree of Infinity, on our own through the use of only one method: elevating the Giver in his eyes.

The point in my heart will not grow on its own. It will only grow when connected to a friend, only through bestowal, with which I will manage to permeate my point. It has nothing else to grow on.

The Upper Light keeps influencing us more strongly, but we do not yet understand that development is not limited with the fulfillment of desire. We develop in an increasing Light as we go back through the steps of HaVaYaH.

On this journey, stages gradually replace one another. However, we just keep waiting for new portions of Light without understanding that the time to replace reception with bestowal has come. And even though the Light increases, we perceive it as something negative, as darkness.

In reality Light is good, but in order to receive it as good, we need to become a vessel like it. In the end it pressures us, until we at least somehow agree with the order of the day and take another step towards bestowal.

This is why, instead of working directly with the desire, we need to work on the change of attitude towards the Giver. Development is not a quantitative process, but a qualitative one. We will move ahead quickly if we remember this.

Back To The Future

Dr. MIchael LaitmanQuestion: Scientists believe that our reality emerged as a result of the Big Bang and that we still continue to feel its effects. How does this perception of the world mesh with a new sense organ?

Answer: Of course, it will enable us to see all the phenomena that occurred before us and from which the spiritual reality was created, and we will reveal all its layers. But the main thing for us is to reach its roots, because in this way we simultaneously strive for the future and return to the past. It turns out that it is the same thing. It is possible to explore the upper reality by our senses like we now study the reality of this world.

We acquire a systemic approach, because we learn how we can, with our sense organs, enter into the feelings of others and build one with respect to another. We have been given all the necessary tools, a program to learn and move in a new perception of reality, perceiving it in its true form.

But at the same time, all of reality is imprinted in us, not somewhere outside. All our perception still applies to humans observing reality.

Question: What motivation do we have to exit today’s sensations?

Answer: The reason is very simple. We live within our sensations. If our sense organs stop working for some reason, it is called death. That is, we die and cease to perceive reality.

If instead of approaching death, you develop your sense organs, you will become immortal, because it is outside of you. Thus, you will turn into a person who lives forever, unconstrained, in an infinite space called paradise. This perception is above your egoistic desires.

The World As A Sci-Fi Movie

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If Israel is the engineer who is responsible for the proper functioning of the world system, what should they know in order to do their job?

Answer: Israel has to know all about the system—about the force that manages the system and the system itself—in order to properly connect it with the upper force.

The upper force is the next level above us, and right below it is Israel, and below it, the rest of the world. There are three levels, and this is what the system looks like.

Israel receives orders from the upper force and conveys it downward, adapting them for this transmission and acting like a head relative to the body.

Israel has to connect with the nations of the world and feel what they lack, and then raise their request upward to the upper, which is called MAN, a prayer. Then they have to adapt themselves correctly so that the upper force will be able to spread from the top down in the best possible way.

This means that Israel has to act first and this will summon the next process in which the upper force will begin to operate.

This system includes all of reality: our desires, thoughts, and feelings. Our whole life changes, including our perception of reality and how we feel it. The world becomes a different place, like in a science fiction movie.

We begin to see the forces that operate in the world and the systems that are behind it. This world becomes a theater, guided and set in motion behind the scenes. Thus we perceive the control system. The external form is only necessary in order to allow us to connect to the internal system.

The Systematic Approach Of The Wisdom Of Connection

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Integral education is not just games or pleasant encounters. Rather, this is a powerful, broad-minded, systematic method. What is needed for us to stop looking for solutions to problems only on an isolated individual level where we never find a solution, but to approach problems collectively, systematically?

Answer: The method of connection is a unique program for discovering the true reality through the development of our senses. We lack the tools for grasping reality. Physically, we have five senses—seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching—that work in particular ranges. If we were to extend our range of vision from minus to plus infinity, then we would see a different picture, and then this would no longer just be called “vision,” for we would perceive the world in the infrared and ultraviolet ranges, beyond the usual frequencies.

Hearing is also in waves, like everything that we feel. Suppose that it were possible to extend the range of audible waves from zero to higher frequencies without limit. Then, we would discover more wonderful phenomena which we are not conscious of yet. After all, we perceive what enters the range of frequencies that we sense, and, if the phenomenon is outside our frequency range, then we don’t see or hear it. Our senses of sight and hearing simply reject phenomena like these.

It is interesting that most of the neurons in our brain belong to the sense of smell. The entire brain is enveloped in cells responsible for the sense of smell. Apparently, once the sense of smell was an important function as it is with dogs where it is more important than hearing and even seeing. However, in the course of human evolution, the sense of smell lost its importance. Also, the sense of taste is more limited in people. A dog just needs to touch food to immediately determine if it is spoiled. An entire laboratory is working in a dog that gives him immediate results. However, a human is incapable of this. So, he is compelled to send samples to a laboratory and wait a week for the results. We have to train dogs to work in airports to find drugs or money by scent.

This means that humans lack sensations. But, even if we were to develop seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching, and opened ourselves to all the frequencies, we still would grasp only a small fraction of reality, because behind all the senses, stands our desire within which we perceive reality. The amount of desire determines the intensity of our perception.

The problem is that our desire is very small. How much do I want to see, to hear, to feel, and to taste? Just a little. That is, our perception is limited not only by the range of the senses, but also by the desire that stands behind them all.

However, the main limitation is that our desire makes it possible for us to perceive only what interests it, and we don’t pay attention to what doesn’t interest our ego. So, we don’t see the reality that is in front of us.

Of everything that is in front of me, I only see the small part that I am interested in or is useful or harmful to me. But if something doesn’t touch my desire from the point of view of its being good or bad, then I simply don’t see or perceive it.

Outside of me, there could be endless sources of influence, but they don’t interest me. I don’t want to pay attention to them, so I don’t discover them. I don’t feel them, and I live as if they don’t exist at all, and in the meantime, they influence me without my knowledge, just like radioactivity.

The only solution is to switch to a different form of perception, not egoistic. In other words, it is up to me to perceive not what is interesting or harmful to me, but to open myself to all of the reality that is in front of me, without knowing what it is.

Get Rid Of Illusions

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I have often heard the friends say: “I will do my best, and if I don’t achieve anything in this life, at least I will follow this path.” Is this the right approach or not? Or should a person say that: “I will attain spirituality in this life !”?

Answer: In this life means on this level. After all, whatever we don’t feel seems to be beyond this life. It also exists, but in another dimension.

Suppose I live in a body and feel my life through it. However, if I work on myself, I bring myself to a state in which I begin to experience additional feelings in life: new attributes, new desires, and new relations on a higher level; the attributes of bestowal  are due to my connection with others. These attributes have nothing to do with my initial desire (not the body but the desire).

Therefore, I simply fulfill myself on the next level by making myself a more sublime creature. If I can do that, the desires of my current level gradually change into more sublime desires.

Why were we given a body that actually has nothing to do with our desires? After all, we could have desires that are external to our body and fulfill them outside the body.

Comment: It is difficult to picture that.

Answer: Why? Is it difficult for you to imagine that I enjoy a cup of coffee without preparing it, pouring it into a cup, and then pouring it down my throat, and feeling some pleasure in it? It is all about sensors, which are attached external factors! It isn’t the drink.

We can insert electrodes into the brain or put on a helmet with electrodes and feel the same sensations. So where am I actually?

The point is that we are impressed by different things, that there are forces that manage us and it seems that we actually move our hands, and speak to one another, but in fact it isn’t so. The matter, that we feel, doesn’t really exist.

Therefore, our first task is to get rid of this illusion and  rise above it. Then our movements will be rational and not silly like a baby who jerks his hands and legs in every direction and cannot control them.

We will begin to work directly with the forces that invoke us and will know how to respond to them. We will be in bilateral relations with them and will see the goal.

The Real Purpose Of The Human Brain

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Slon): “Our brain does not receive, does not process and does not understand information. The brain is not a homogeneous, rigid structure, each of which handles its information. Our brain is not a computer with separate blocks.

“The brain consists of individual cells – neurons. Information links between them are chemical – in the form of the entry and exit of ions.

“We would not understand without the brain, but the brain would not understand without us.

“Our ability to interact with the world is the result of the activities of generations of living creatures trying to establish contact with it. We are a set of living cells that have learned this interaction; we are groups and systems, coordinating our activity. The most important question of psychophysiology is to explore the work of the brain and its contents simultaneously.

“The brain is an electromechanical structure; the brain can understand nothing – understanding is within us.

“We cannot put a picture of the physical world in our brain – the image “falls apart” at the level of the retina. Then, this image is reconstructed again, and we are the artists of what we see.

“Our brain has something more than the structure of the brain itself. We finish building the environment in accordance with internal experience. Our head contains more than just neurons – they produce the model of the external world, which is detailed and dynamic.

“That is, the brain can control something in the external environment through its activity and can get in touch with the outside world.”

My Comment: There is no body. There is only desire and mind, with a human being the result of their correct combination. What we see as the world is ethereal, unreal, and  does not exist. The picture that we see in the brain appears to us as the only thing that truly exists.

The picture of the world is painted within us, according to our likeness to the single upper force. We see the difference between our properties and the properties of the upper force. This is the internal language of the brain, which then paints it for us in images.

How Can We Awaken From This Nightmare?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can we move to a better united reality from this disintegrated crisis-stricken reality?

Answer: It is as if I awaken from a dream and see an evil world before me and then close my eyes again in order to awaken to a real, good world. The terrible world I first saw was a dream and I don’t want it.

When I wake up the second time, I see a normal world and not the world I saw before in my dream. This is what it says about the spiritual revelation: “It is as if we were dreaming.”

How can we awaken from this terrible nightmare into a good world? There is a remedy for that: We only need to heal our faulty perception. Now, too, we are in a wonderful world, in the Garden of Eden, where there are no afflictions or pain, where there is no evil at all, but only absolute goodness. The only thing we need is to change our perception.

We are in a sphere where all the goodness turns into total evil. Therefore, we see all the goodness as evil. It is to such an extent, that on the outside there is only the wonderful world of Ein Sof (Infinity), but we perceive it according to our evil attributes. If we change our attributes, we will see a good world.

We will find ourselves surrounded by angels who treat each other lovingly, and no one has any evil thoughts. It will be a world of absolute goodness. We should just be careful not to corrupt it and to perceive it correctly.

So if you feel bad, you should only look at yourself. We truly identify with your suffering, but there is a remedy that will help you feel good. This remedy isn’t a lie or a pain killer. On the contrary, when you begin to change your perception, thanks to it, you will see that previously you were dreaming.

The whole world will be corrected and not just parts of it: First it will be 10%, then 20%, 30%, and so on until it is 100% corrected. The world will change for the better as you change your attributes by 10%, 20%, etc.

To the extent that you manage to rise above your hatred towards others, you will see how their attitude towards you will change. Therefore, there is no need to change anyone in this world or to correct the world, you should only correct yourself.
