The Handmaid Who Seized the Mistress’s Place

294.2“This is called “a handmaid who is heir to her mistress,” since the very power of the mistress—the control of the internality—is by the force of our wisdom and knowledge, as it is written, “we are distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.”
Now, the handmaid has stepped forth and prides herself in public that she is the heir of this wisdom” (Baal HaSulam “A Handmaid Who Is Heir to Her Mistress“).

Mistress means the desire to reveal the Creator and the handmaid is external aspirations.

The problem is that now the external part of the knowledge of nature prevails in the world. That is completely wrong because it turns all the devices and governance of the world upside down. It turns out that people do not want to perceive the inner part of nature, study it, and master it. That is how all sorts of other teachings appear.

Even though, initially the handmaid’s aspirations were intended to single out the mistress, it turned out that she seized the place of the mistress and rules instead of her and hides behind something else, which is lighter, more pleasant, and more understandable. Therefore, people do not want to do the hard work of revealing the Creator.

Question: If we are talking about a ten, how can we determine that the handmaid has taken or is beginning to take the place of the mistress?

Answer: This is a very serious issue. In principle, it all depends on how a person feels and what he is drawn to—either to reveal all sorts of secrets of the universe or to follow the recommendations of the Creator. That is the difference.

Attain HaVaYaH

263The four phases in the desire are the four letters HaVaYaH, which are KHB TM (Keter, Hochma, Bina, Tifferet, Malchut)” (Baal HaSulam, Study of the Ten Sefirot (TES). Vol. 1. Part 1. “Inner Observation”).

Question: How do Kabbalists attain HaVaYaH? Do they attain it as something whole, including all the elements, or in parts?

Answer: HaVaYaH is a system that starts from the Creator and ends in the depths of creation. Kabbalists attain it as something complete.

We study the desire that changes under the influence of the Creator. In other words, we learn how the Creator influences the desire until He brings it to the best state.

Attainment of HaVaYaH begins with the Kabbalist dissolving into it, if I may say. He understands that everything in him is created by the Creator or received from the Creator, and there is nothing from himself.

Question: If so, how does he reveal the entire structure of the development of the desire, from the Creator to the creation?

Answer: The Creator shows him how opposite to the upper light he was created, and in these two opposites, he attains the entire creation. The Creator does not need darkness and light, but man needs them to pass through all the intermediate phases between him and the Creator. That is how his spiritual development occurs.

How Can We See the Creator’s Actions?

934Question: Every desire revealed in us is preceded by four discernments of the direct light. How can we reveal this to see the Creator’s actions behind all our desires?

Answer: Only in our connection with each other can we reveal the system of unity, along which the light passes through all our friends onto each of us.

The light must pass through them, reveal itself in each of them, and then you, who are at the last degree, will also be able to reveal it. Friends stand above you because they are higher than you, and they are the degrees by which the light descends to you, from above to below.

Question: How do we connect with them in order to rise from below?

Answer: You have to help them, add your desires to them, your Hisaron, your pressure. And then, by this, you will push them up, rise with them, and receive the light you evoke in them.

This system is the ten Sefirot in which each of us works from Malchut to Keter, where Keter is the Creator and the intermediate degrees between Keter and Malchut are all your friends.

The Shattering of the Unified System of Adam HaRishon

264.01Before the shattering, one system of Adam HaRishon existed in the universe.

This organism was in complete harmony with the Creator with a positive desire to bestow, to nourish, to love.

However, in order to create something opposite and create our world out of opposites, the system underwent a shattering, which is called the sin of Adam.

More precisely, it was not the desires themselves that were shattered, but specifically the connections, that is, intentions. Thus, the entire nature turned out to be completely broken into the smallest parts, which then began to reassemble but no longer according to the law of mutual bestowal, attraction, and love, but on the contrary, on mutually beneficial terms. This is how the egoistic nature of our world was created.

In other words, the breaking of altruistic connections between all forces caused the emergence of egoistic connections. All of this, as Kabbalah describes, happened before the Big Bang in the world of forces. And then, through the gradual coarsening of these forces, our earthly nature and we emerged.

With Whom Is the Creator?

294.2Question: In the primary sources it is written that the Creator Himself, the upper force, is waging war with the evil inclination, with evil forces. So, it is said that He is a warrior. How should I understand this? Whose side is the Creator on when there are two fighting sides and each prays from the heart for victory? Who is the Creator with?

Answer: The Creator is with no one. He is completely uninvolved in these problems, although He initiates them. The thing is that His task is to call humanity to understand its nature and do everything to correct it. Therefore, a person must recognize himself as an absolute egoist and, based on that, find the key to self-correction.

Question: Let’s say there is a war going on, and both sides are praying for victory. How does the Creator, the upper force of nature, react to these prayers? It is said that the Creator feels everyone’s prayer that come from the heart. I am sure that from both sides, the prayer comes from the heart because everyone wants to win.

How can you, as a Kabbalist, determine who the Creator is with?

Answer: The Creator is with those who are closer to Him according to the criteria of goodness, unification, and the desire to help close ones, distant, strangers, everyone, no matter who. That is, we must study the properties of the Creator and try to understand them, and then accept and incorporate them into our environment.

Question: But if both nations are united and go against each other and each believes that they are fighting for freedom, for their people, for their families, then who is the Creator with? Is it possible to judge by the results; whoever wins, that is who the Creator is with?

Answer: No, it cannot be said that way either. We should just study the properties of the Creator, His laws, and see how close we are to them or not. Based on this, we will understand who  the Creator is with and how He guides creation.

Questions about Spiritual Work—28

3Question: What is wrong in our current state that dissatisfies the Creator?

Answer: He is not satisfied with our condition. He wants us to draw closer to each other internally all the time, to apply spiritual force, and then all together to draw closer to the Creator.

Question: Why should the suffering of creation be great?

Answer: Real suffering is a feeling of lack of correction. Therefore, the more we advance, the small distances from each other cause us great suffering.

Question: How do we properly undergo corrections so that there is no rejection from each other in the form of suffering?

Answer: In any case, there must be rejections otherwise we will not recognize where else there are qualities that need to be corrected. Egoism must manifest itself because without it we will not understand what to correct.

The Mercy of the Creator

235Question: What can be called the mercy of the Creator toward the creation?

Answer: The mercy of the Creator is in the fact that He gives us the opportunity from such a low state in which we are cut off from connection with Him and our friends to reach adhesion with them and with Him.

This can be checked by the following criterion: We do not think about anything and anyone except the Creator, and all our actions are aimed only at filling and delighting Him.

How Can You Get a Taste of Reality?

276.02Question: Baal HaSulam’s article “What Is ‘A Habit Becomes a Second Nature,’ in the Work?” says that because of this rule, we feel a taste of reality.

But when something becomes a habit, we just stop feeling the taste and are looking for something new. What does the taste of reality mean, and how do we even understand that this is reality and not our fantasies?

Answer: We have no way of understanding what is reality and what is not. We are not able to feel it. We perceive what the Creator gives us, so this is our reality.

Question: The article says that when two objects have the same feeling of reality, they are in adhesion. At the same time, it says here that the reality of the Creator is unattainable. How can we come to adhesion?

Answer: We do not know that. I act according to how I perceive others, including the Creator. That is all. We cannot check whether our feelings are true or not.

Manifestation of Shattering In Our World

222Question: How is the shattering of the single system of Adam HaRishon manifested in our world today?

Answer: It is manifested in the fact that all of nature is egoistic, built on so-called materialistic laws, and we live in it according to the same laws.

But the wisdom of Kabbalah is gradually being revealed and explains that there is a completely different nature that we do not see in our world, an altruistic one, based on properties of bestowal and good mutuality.

Now we are approaching a state where we have no other choice but to begin mastering this second nature—the nature of bestowal and love; otherwise, we will not be able to exist.
