An Eye For An Eye

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Most of us wish to participate in new projects, but we lose interest very quickly. How can we keep people’s motivation so that they will continue to work on the project they have chosen?

Answer: Working on a project is your collective obligation to one another and you have to fulfill it.

Notice that an obligation to one another is no different than an obligation to the Creator. If I take it upon myself to be committed to a certain project and then neglect it, then as Rabash and Baal HaSulam say, the Creator repays us in the same way and our action is also measured from above in the exact same way.

If I neglect my project because of my laziness or because of other circumstances, then I summon upon myself the influence of the Light accordingly. It isn’t because this is desirable or undesirable above; the Creator has no such feelings as “I want to” or “I don’t want to.”

It is the upper force and it influences us according to our exertion. So when we stop yearning forward, its yearning for us also stops in the exact same way. It is an automatic action of two opposite forces: Our desire and the Upper Light.

Two Parts Of One Source

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The created being is the uncorrected part of our desire and everything that happens to us is only so that we will ask the Creator to correct it. Is worrying about corporeal problems also necessary in order to turn to the Creator?

Answer: Yes, the corporeal part should also be focused on the Creator, since everything stems from the same source, from the Light. Part of it fills us and enables us to live, to feel ourselves, to sustain our physical existence, and part of the Light should be drawn by us according to our efforts.

On the whole, we don’t think about the part that fills us with the force of vitality; as much as the Creator gives us is what will be. It refers to the still, vegetative, and animate. And the part that can be developed by yearning for the Creator, to rise, belongs to the wisdom of Kabbalah, to the spiritual world.

The Creator’s “Obstacles”

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is the Creator not revealed as good and benevolent but as putting obstacles?

Answer: The Creator doesn’t just set up obstacles for you; He created evil in you from the start. It is said, “I created the evil inclination.” That is, you are my beloved child, nothing good will come before you, only the greatest and most despicable evil. That is how I gave birth to you.

But at the same time, I give you a guidebook and want you to discover how harmful, jealous, lazy, and disgusting I made you. There is no good characteristic in you! Every evil, disgusting, repulsive, and hateful thing, everything that is opposite to me, I have put into you.

But I give you one point through which you can get out of this mud, the “point in the heart,” and the possibility of being linked to me through it.

And now we will see if you want this or not. If you will open love for me within yourself, you will leave this pile of garbage. Then you can ascend to me. And if you ask me in the right way, such that you appreciate my higher characteristics more than yours, then I will help you.

It is not enough that you sit within your evil and suffer. Does this indicate that you want to get rid of this garbage just to be free of the suffering?! What I want is that you will appreciate me and want to be like me. Then I will help you. Do it!

The Menorah Is A Symbol Of A Great Idea

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Exodus,” “Terumah,” 25:31, 25:37: And you shall make a menorah of pure gold. The menorah shall be made of hammered work; its base and its stem, its goblets, its knobs, and its flowers, shall all be one piece with it…And you shall make its lamps seven, and he shall kindle his so that they shed light towards its face.

The Menorah (lamp) is the embodiment of the good corrected ego (made of gold). It’s very hard to design and to consolidate the Menorah (to correct the ego so that it will shine as the Light), including the cups and the flowers that are made of one piece of metal.

Every item, every human egoistic attribute has to be of a certain size and shape so that all the features of the Menorah will resemble the Creator in all its seven parts: Hesed, Gevura, Tifferet, Netzah, Hod, Yesod, and Malchut. When Malchut becomes like all these seven attributes, it becomes totally like the Creator, as its egoistic matter, the despised gold metal, becomes the attribute of bestowal and actually becomes the means to light, the means to burn for the Creator, for the Light.

The Menorah symbolizes the ego that has become similar to the Creator that radiates Light by itself, although it isn’t naturally a source of light. Besides there is also the oil and the wicks, but the resemblance is achieved by the vessel for the oil and the light that comes out of it. So the symbol of the Menorah is still a great idea in itself, when the lowest form of the ego, (the gold) becomes the most sublime form of bestowal.

The seven candles of the Menorah form on the attribute of bestowal, Zeir Anpin, the ideal image of the Creator. This is called the inverse image of Adam, meaning similar to the Creator. By correcting the ego, Malchut, in the seven phases of the attribute of bestowal, connects totally to the Creator and by this action, Malchut attains the end of its correction.

On the whole, the Torah speaks about nothing but that. It only says which desires and according to which order we have to resemble the Creator, this is the whole plan, the spiritual work that is given in the Torah, which stems from the Hebrew word “Ora’a” which means “instruction.”

You Will Have To Let The Cat Out Of The Bag

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You are saying that sooner or later the nations of the world will accept the wisdom of Kabbalah and the fact that it comes from Jews. Does this mean that integral education is a transitional phase until the 99% of humanity is ready to accept the wisdom of Kabbalah directly? Or will they be able to manage without it?

Answer: As we advance, we will show everyone who we are and what we are. It will happen gradually, gently, so as not to hurt anyone, and not to give them an excuse to reject the information. Throughout human history there has been a lot of prejudice against the Jews: A Jewish conspiracy, enslaving the world, etc.

In order to soften this perception, we bring people integral education. Not only for that reason but also because they don’t need the wisdom of Kabbalah in any way, are not attracted to it, and it doesn’t interest them.

Although Kabbalah is supposed to be for the Jews, even in Israel they are unable to perceive this wisdom. They don’t want to hear about it, they hate it and are even more afraid than the other nations. But we have to shatter the iron wall between the wisdom of Kabbalah and the world.

Will the masses understand that integral education is the wisdom of Kabbalah? Yes. They will come to understand and discover that it comes from ancient Babylon. They will study Kabbalistic history as the egoistic evolution of humanity and will understand what we understand.

I don’t think we will be able to hide this. If we don’t do it, the Internet will, and so will our enemies.

Mass dissemination in Israel, for example, is done without mentioning the wisdom of Kabbalah and who we are at all. But our enemies bring out every detail they can find and spill it all out.

Why? So that we will overcome the potential obstacle between us and the upper world, so that Pharaoh will be revealed in his full anger and all the “dogs” will bark at us as hard as they can. Only then will we want to detach from them internally and get rid of the feeling that we are subordinate to them, that we want to be in contact with them. Only then will we be able to detach from our ego, from Egypt, from Pharaoh. Otherwise, there is no way we can do that!

We have to experience the ten plagues of Egypt, but in the meantime we identify with the ego, with Pharaoh. This is why we experience all the blows.

In other words, according to the way our campaign is going, I see that the wisdom of Kabbalah will still be presented as our ideology and we cannot escape it. I don’t think that we will be able to hide behind anything.

If it is revealed gradually, it is a sign that the time has come, and that our enemies will work for us.

One Needs To Target The Goal

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How should we deal with the lack of faith in the revelation of the Creator that is caused by many failed attempts?

Answer: We have many attempts ahead of us, and I don’t promise that they will be successful.

But why do you think that they were not beneficial? From failed attempts you accumulate the required potential of despair of your own power and at the same time bitterness that you must achieve the goal, but you can’t, and therefore you turn to the Creator. It is impossible to turn to Him until you are sure that it is within your ability to commit Him to do something, if you would want, would demand, and would shout out.

We progress in the spiritual world in two mutually contradictory directions that mutually reject each other: One of the lines is complete perfection (the attribute of the Light), and the second line is the lack of complete perfection (the attribute of the desire, the vessel), and they need to be compatible.

That is our inner problem, an internal split. We exist between two states: one state is, “If the Creator doesn’t help me, then who will,” and the other state, “If not me for myself, then who?”

Our failed attempts are not just failures but are accumulated conditions of the necessary and correct rise to the Creator, i.e., when you feel that on one hand, He doesn’t help you without your having to cry to Him, and on the other hand, only He can help you if you shout to Him. The third point is that your cry to Him depends on if He will direct you to Him. And the fourth point is that no matter how much He directs you, in any case, it depends only on you.

It is such an internal conflict that splits us, like in sites, when two crosses diverge, one here and the other there, and you can’t succeed in any way to bring them together. There is only one way to align them, if you look ahead, not at them, but at the Creator, seeking Him for the sake of bestowal, and then they merge. Here we need the third component.

It is said: “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator are one.” When you merge the three components, then you reach the goal.

And how is it possible to long for the Creator, if you don’t see Him? How can you correctly aim yourself if you only have two sites and the third, the goal, which you need to correctly target, is unseen. Where do you aim yourself? The answer is to the group. It is facing you. As you completely direct yourself to the group, to bestowal, to adhesion with it, incorporation with it, you aim exactly at the Creator.

The Internal And External Side Of Dissemination

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Have I understood correctly that there is an external side of our dissemination and explanation which may seem purely materialistic. But inside it, it is necessary to pass a pipe through which the Upper Light streams and gives the feeling that within it there is some kind of unique force?

Answer: This is correct, and it is not even necessary to be ashamed and hide this! We do not come to educate people and play social games with them. It is known to us how to arrange our lives and this ability is derived from understanding nature. We have learned how to utilize the constructive power that is discovered within the connection between people.

We know how to build this link between people so that within it the constructive power will correct and change everything. And these are not just words, rather it is up to you to radiate Light from yourself, like Moses who came down from Mount Sinai with the tablets of the covenant in his hands, a power that is ready to change and correct everything. People must feel this in you.

Others may utter similar words, yet within their words there won’t be any inner, emotional filling that determines everything. And these are not just emotions; rather this is Light that must act. The Light influences people during your explanations and it will also correct them and connect them to it so that at the time of your work with their deficiencies you will find the Creator, the Light, within the group, really this entire chain.

Therefore when you go out to disseminate, on the one hand you must explain with words, which is to say, to act on a material, earthly level, but first of all it is up to you to be entirely centered on the inner content to convey the Light to people and to awaken the emotion in them. If this is not found, then there is no reason to go out.

Otherwise you only destroy. The Light that had to come together with your explanations and didn’t come because of your lack of inner effort will be revealed from its “back side” and will awaken contempt and shattering in regard to you. For through the recognition of evil, by way of long suffering, at some stage, not soon, you will ultimately reach the right realization.

The inner efforts that attract the Light are the Arvut (mutual guarantee). So that the Torah will be revealed among us, there must be Arvut between us, mutual concern, mutual connection, general equality, in which all the friends are like one person with one body. This is first of all! The moment that this happens, we go out to disseminate and then we can expect success.

You must act only to the degree of your preparation. And then you will turn to the public together with the Light that you hold within your proper Kli. In your correct connection with the group, the spiritual Light is discovered, not yet discovered completely, but like Ohr Makif that is already found in you.

Together with it you can already turn to people, so that this will be the action of the Light and not just words with the help of which you cannot convince anyone today. The words are not really important; the main thing is that you radiate the Light. It is known that Moses was “tongue-tied” and this did not hinder him from being the leader of the people. Rather people must feel that there is some kind of Light in you and it is up to them to want it also.

This is possible only on condition that you are connected with all of the friends and you live a life of Arvut, or at least with a yearning for Arvut, which is the most important thing for you. First of all you examine and construct this condition and essentially, this is specifically what you are going out to disseminate. No matter how you say it, the external form depends upon the person to whom you are turning. But the main thing is the Upper Light which acts and burns within you and people feel this. For within them there exists a deficiency, are desperate for fulfillment and specifically wants this Light.

We are not linked to each other with words, but only with the help of the Light that exists in each one of us for the sake of all. Thanks to this our desires are linked. And if there is Light in you that someone else requires, then he will adhere to you. He will only be waiting for when you will communicate with him again.

Antibiotics No Longer Work

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Finmarket): “Alexander Fleming, the creator of penicillin, warned still in 1940 that the effect of his discovery would not last forever, that microbes would adapt to medications. The more available medications became, the faster microbes developed the ways to protect against them.

“Antibiotics are losing their properties so quickly that it becomes unprofitable for companies to develop them. Making one drug cost about a billion dollars, and these costs do not have time to pay off before the microbes adapt to them. Soon, minor infections will become fatal again.

“Without antibiotics people would not be able to treat cancer and to transplant organs because these procedures are not possible without suppressing the immune system. Any treatment which requires injecting drugs in the human body, for example, kidney dialysis, will become impossible.

“We will have to forget about implants. This also applies to cosmetic surgery and heart valve surgery. Childbirth will become as dangerous, as a hundred years ago, when five of a thousand pregnant women died.”

My Comment: The problem is food: the development of new varieties, processing plants, and raising meat with antibiotics. We get a huge amount of food with harmful substances together. Objections are usually limited to the notion that this is better than starvation. But if we had changed ourselves to a mutual caring attitude, then we would have distributed good correctly, and we would not have to grow plant and animal food with pesticides, antibiotics, etc.
