One Needs To Target The Goal

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How should we deal with the lack of faith in the revelation of the Creator that is caused by many failed attempts?

Answer: We have many attempts ahead of us, and I don’t promise that they will be successful.

But why do you think that they were not beneficial? From failed attempts you accumulate the required potential of despair of your own power and at the same time bitterness that you must achieve the goal, but you can’t, and therefore you turn to the Creator. It is impossible to turn to Him until you are sure that it is within your ability to commit Him to do something, if you would want, would demand, and would shout out.

We progress in the spiritual world in two mutually contradictory directions that mutually reject each other: One of the lines is complete perfection (the attribute of the Light), and the second line is the lack of complete perfection (the attribute of the desire, the vessel), and they need to be compatible.

That is our inner problem, an internal split. We exist between two states: one state is, “If the Creator doesn’t help me, then who will,” and the other state, “If not me for myself, then who?”

Our failed attempts are not just failures but are accumulated conditions of the necessary and correct rise to the Creator, i.e., when you feel that on one hand, He doesn’t help you without your having to cry to Him, and on the other hand, only He can help you if you shout to Him. The third point is that your cry to Him depends on if He will direct you to Him. And the fourth point is that no matter how much He directs you, in any case, it depends only on you.

It is such an internal conflict that splits us, like in sites, when two crosses diverge, one here and the other there, and you can’t succeed in any way to bring them together. There is only one way to align them, if you look ahead, not at them, but at the Creator, seeking Him for the sake of bestowal, and then they merge. Here we need the third component.

It is said: “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator are one.” When you merge the three components, then you reach the goal.

And how is it possible to long for the Creator, if you don’t see Him? How can you correctly aim yourself if you only have two sites and the third, the goal, which you need to correctly target, is unseen. Where do you aim yourself? The answer is to the group. It is facing you. As you completely direct yourself to the group, to bestowal, to adhesion with it, incorporation with it, you aim exactly at the Creator.

The Internal And External Side Of Dissemination

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Have I understood correctly that there is an external side of our dissemination and explanation which may seem purely materialistic. But inside it, it is necessary to pass a pipe through which the Upper Light streams and gives the feeling that within it there is some kind of unique force?

Answer: This is correct, and it is not even necessary to be ashamed and hide this! We do not come to educate people and play social games with them. It is known to us how to arrange our lives and this ability is derived from understanding nature. We have learned how to utilize the constructive power that is discovered within the connection between people.

We know how to build this link between people so that within it the constructive power will correct and change everything. And these are not just words, rather it is up to you to radiate Light from yourself, like Moses who came down from Mount Sinai with the tablets of the covenant in his hands, a power that is ready to change and correct everything. People must feel this in you.

Others may utter similar words, yet within their words there won’t be any inner, emotional filling that determines everything. And these are not just emotions; rather this is Light that must act. The Light influences people during your explanations and it will also correct them and connect them to it so that at the time of your work with their deficiencies you will find the Creator, the Light, within the group, really this entire chain.

Therefore when you go out to disseminate, on the one hand you must explain with words, which is to say, to act on a material, earthly level, but first of all it is up to you to be entirely centered on the inner content to convey the Light to people and to awaken the emotion in them. If this is not found, then there is no reason to go out.

Otherwise you only destroy. The Light that had to come together with your explanations and didn’t come because of your lack of inner effort will be revealed from its “back side” and will awaken contempt and shattering in regard to you. For through the recognition of evil, by way of long suffering, at some stage, not soon, you will ultimately reach the right realization.

The inner efforts that attract the Light are the Arvut (mutual guarantee). So that the Torah will be revealed among us, there must be Arvut between us, mutual concern, mutual connection, general equality, in which all the friends are like one person with one body. This is first of all! The moment that this happens, we go out to disseminate and then we can expect success.

You must act only to the degree of your preparation. And then you will turn to the public together with the Light that you hold within your proper Kli. In your correct connection with the group, the spiritual Light is discovered, not yet discovered completely, but like Ohr Makif that is already found in you.

Together with it you can already turn to people, so that this will be the action of the Light and not just words with the help of which you cannot convince anyone today. The words are not really important; the main thing is that you radiate the Light. It is known that Moses was “tongue-tied” and this did not hinder him from being the leader of the people. Rather people must feel that there is some kind of Light in you and it is up to them to want it also.

This is possible only on condition that you are connected with all of the friends and you live a life of Arvut, or at least with a yearning for Arvut, which is the most important thing for you. First of all you examine and construct this condition and essentially, this is specifically what you are going out to disseminate. No matter how you say it, the external form depends upon the person to whom you are turning. But the main thing is the Upper Light which acts and burns within you and people feel this. For within them there exists a deficiency, are desperate for fulfillment and specifically wants this Light.

We are not linked to each other with words, but only with the help of the Light that exists in each one of us for the sake of all. Thanks to this our desires are linked. And if there is Light in you that someone else requires, then he will adhere to you. He will only be waiting for when you will communicate with him again.

Antibiotics No Longer Work

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Finmarket): “Alexander Fleming, the creator of penicillin, warned still in 1940 that the effect of his discovery would not last forever, that microbes would adapt to medications. The more available medications became, the faster microbes developed the ways to protect against them.

“Antibiotics are losing their properties so quickly that it becomes unprofitable for companies to develop them. Making one drug cost about a billion dollars, and these costs do not have time to pay off before the microbes adapt to them. Soon, minor infections will become fatal again.

“Without antibiotics people would not be able to treat cancer and to transplant organs because these procedures are not possible without suppressing the immune system. Any treatment which requires injecting drugs in the human body, for example, kidney dialysis, will become impossible.

“We will have to forget about implants. This also applies to cosmetic surgery and heart valve surgery. Childbirth will become as dangerous, as a hundred years ago, when five of a thousand pregnant women died.”

My Comment: The problem is food: the development of new varieties, processing plants, and raising meat with antibiotics. We get a huge amount of food with harmful substances together. Objections are usually limited to the notion that this is better than starvation. But if we had changed ourselves to a mutual caring attitude, then we would have distributed good correctly, and we would not have to grow plant and animal food with pesticides, antibiotics, etc.

The Formula Of The Correction: A Circle – A Line – A Circle

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs a result of all the corrections, we have to return to the form of a circle, as was created by the Creator in the world of Ein Sof (Infinity). But this can only be done by a multitude of lines, which means restrictions of the desire to receive, Masachim (screens) and Zivug de Haka’a.

The direct line is justice; pay and you will receive! Circles are like a mother that is ready to give us everything that she has: take whatever you want.

But the circles that we yearn for after the correction are such great number of straight lines that it takes on the form of a circle. If there are no limitations on my desire and it is fully corrected, I become a circle, the one who bestows equally, “I am for my beloved and my beloved is for me.”

Of course, our ego is a circle and this circle is corrupt. It wants to enjoy everything it sees without any limitations and accounts. We have to bring it to the form of a corrected circle so that it will be totally in order to bestow, above any accounts. Its correction is fulfilled by a line. We restrict our desire and limit it by a Masach. It is the Masach that turns the circle into a line, since it limits the circle and arranges it according to a certain order and a certain account.

If it weren’t for the Masach, the vessels would remain circles, like the Light that created them. After the restrictions, however, we say no to unlimited receiving and are willing to receive only according to a certain ration, a certain account, a certain agreement. The Creator is not involved in that.

By restricting yourself, you seem to say to the Creator: “Wait, please give me time to manage my desire to receive. I want to fix it. The moment I fix it we will connect. Please don’t interrupt me, just help me when I ask for Your help.” If I don’t do that, I will feel shame, and if I do that I will be worthy, and I will be independent.

Work in a straight line means working according to justice. This is determined by how much I can place the group in contrast to my desire to receive, so that by the help of the group I will draw the Light that Reforms and ask the Creator for help. Direct line is working with the Masach, according to my ability to overcome shame and turn it into respect, according to an account of how much a person can use his nature and the Creator’s nature,

Question: An ordinary line connects points, what does this line connect?

Answer: This line connects the desire to receive with the Light through the Masach. Thus, the circle of “in order to receive” turns into a circle of “in order to bestow.” The corrected circle is created by multiplying the number of lines until Ein Sof. If we find even a grain of a “desire to receive,” we turn it into a line.

It turns out that such an infinite amount of lines becomes a circle. Receiving in order to bestow infinitely is also called circles. Thus we return to the world of Ein Sof. We can turn our desire to receive into lines except for the heart of stone that will be corrected by all our efforts all at once at the end. This is according to the condition of: “He swallowed an army and shall vomit it.”

The World Is Making A Transition From Reception To Bestowal

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur world is becoming more and more “round”; this means that the collective mutual link between everyone is being discovered; everyone influences everyone.

Ten thousand years ago you would have attacked your neighbor, you would have killed and eaten him. Five thousand years later you would have already stopped killing the neighbors, rather you would have understood that it was better to enslave them.

Another few thousand years passed and you would have attacked your neighbor and made him a worker since a slave was no longer worthwhile. Everything is established according to what is useful to the desire to receive. But today things are no longer the way they used to be. If you were to attack someone and conquer him today, you would begin to feed him and be concerned for him. Therefore, in our times wars are not worthwhile.

We see how the world, without understanding on its own, is gradually transitioning entirely from reception to bestowal! All of our systems (economics, health, and so forth) must transform to be more “round”; we have no other choice. Governments are compelled to distribute money to their people so that everyone will have something to eat. Nations have now transformed into social security institutions and welfare bureaus. Whether it wants to or not, every nation must transform into a system that is primarily concerned about its ordinary citizens.

All this is a result that we are approaching “circles,” spherical vessels. Otherwise we cannot exist in conditions like these. But in this kind of form we will not be released from problems because these changes are made from above, from the government, by the circles. We must do this from below, through correction by the person, through the “straight line.”

The way of correction from above is a long way of “recognition of evil.” As much as this seems nice to us today, that a nation is concerned for its citizens so that everyone will get all that they require, in the end, this will bring immense destruction. Ultimately, we must discover that we must begin correction from below. There must be bestowal from the side of the person below, therefore, we must turn to the most failed strata, take care of them, and bring to them the method of correction.

“Circles” is the discovery of the higher power, the Upper Light, the upper Kli. And these become a great threat over us. All the forces of nature are revealed in the form of a circular shape. A person must work in the form of a straight line.

A tsunami wave that comes doesn’t take into account if you are a good or a bad person, rich or poor, instead it wipes out everything in its path. That is how the circles work. And we must become a straight line. Though the straight line is opposite the circle, when it becomes the bestower, it actually fills the circles. With this we transform ourselves into a force that fills the Creator. The guest must fill the host, just as the host wants to fill the guest. This is what is called reaching adherence through equivalence of form and equivalence of deeds.

A Wonderful View From The Upper Floor

Dr. Michael Laitman“Circles” are bestowals that arrive from above. But when this bestowal comes to us, to the desire to receive, which is not equivalent to its form and is unable to accommodate its characteristics, then it is perceived by us as something bad. It is like when your mother forces you to do something that you don’t want to. She is bestowing good to you, but it seems as if it is something bad.

Our role is to pass through so many “lines,” so many capillaries in our collective body, that we will reach each and every cell. Every living body works like this. All of creation, the still, vegetative, and animate exist in complete and wondrous harmony between “circles” and “lines.” We only need to correct a person’s attitude.

And this correction must begin from below, from the lowest strata. We see that changes have already begun from above, the governments will be obligated to make “circles” for the distribution of benefits to everyone, like social security, and so forth. But all this comes from above in the form of “circles”—as in the upper worlds, so also in our world. A corrected nation is one that somehow organizes its work in the form of a circle regarding the people.

Therefore, we need to begin integral education from the lowest strata. First of all, this is because they suffer more than everyone, and improving their condition is possible only though the Light that Reforms. They have nothing else to rely on, and therefore we can reach them.

Besides this, correction must be from below to above, from the smallest and simplest deficiencies and desires, which begin to be linked in the form of a circle. When I am linked with a group of ten, with my group, then I fill it with this. The group, which transforms into a complete unit, a “1,” rises to a higher level, to a new qualitative level, and begins to work as a line in the circle that exists on a higher level.

We always rise like this. A circle that is constructed by us on a lower level is equivalent to a direct one at the next stage. That is how we rise all the time, by transforming the line into a circle.

At the moment that we begin to be linked to a circle, we reach wholeness and receive bestowal, the Light. We don’t lack anything. As Baal HaSulam writes in the article, “The Creator’s Concealment and Revelation,” a person sees friends suffering from diseases of poverty, and after correction he suddenly sees that they are all successful, healthy, and rich. A change like this takes place at the time of ascent to a new level, a new state.

We do not understand how this is possible, but it will happen. There is no other way to correct the world except to correct the perception. Infinite bestowal exists in the world, we only need to ascend and see the entire world from a higher level. Don’t try to make some kind of change or correction to the world on your level, this will not help. The more you invest, the more you will suffer and lose.

Belonging To The Absolute Truth

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we feel the Creator? Is there a feeling of gratitude that He created us or something else?

Answer: If you have no spiritual vessels, then there is no sensation of the Creator, and it is impossible to explain this.

The sensation of the Creator is a feeling of belonging to the absolute truth, beyond all doubts, above your problems, and separate from all your petty calculations! You discover an “absolute” perfection. And this perfection is beyond all of your previous estimations.

Question: Does it follow that this feeling is detached from my connection with the friends?

Answer: On one hand, this is detached, and on the other hand, in spite of it all, through a link with the friends, you feel a slight touch of the sensation of the Creator. As it is said, “Exodus 33:23”: “And you will see My back, but My face shall not be seen.” But you can already guess that this is something beyond your Kelim, beyond your properties. So the question is: How is it possible to evaluate something beyond my Kelim? But this is how the Ohr Makif (Surrounding Light), the Achoraim de Elyon is revealed.

But essentially, this is the middle line, without it, without this momentary contact with the Creator, all of your attainments are not worth anything. Even if we were to attain total peace and the Garden of Eden on the face of the Earth and everything were to seem wonderful, this entire idyll is worth nothing. For in the end, we need to attain some kind of affiliation with the upper force that is beyond us.

This is like an electric wire that is only required to reveal the electricity. The electricity doesn’t “flow” through the wire; rather, it is passed around the wire as the energy of an electromagnetic field; that is, the energy passes next to the wire and not within it. And the wire is so that the energy can be revealed next to it. That is how it also is with the friends; this is the material through which the Creator must be revealed.
