Question: Our planet has been through many phases and crises during its evolution. Its history is a sequence of different periods: the creation of the solid crust, volcanic activity, ice ages, and extinction of different species, etc.

When we look at this process, there is a feeling that our planet has prepared itself for billions of years for the creation of human life, just like a woman prepares herself to give birth when an embryo develops inside her.

What can we learn from the evolutionary process of the earth? Is it true that its long evolution was meant for us, for mankind?

Answer: It is true that the earth has been through long geological periods and a cooling process that lasted billions of years. The accumulation of the heat and pressures inside it erupted again and again until a crust was formed that trapped them in the depths of the planet. This very thin crust and the burning fire underneath it has become the basis for the creation of life, which means that we live on a barrel of explosive matter. At the same time, the atmosphere was created above it, without which living creatures wouldn’t be able to exist.

It is in such extreme and special conditions that life was formed and developed on this planet. The immense opposing forces eventually created harmony, balance, and adaptation according to many parameters, which billions of years ago enabled the development of the first life forms on the level of the inanimate.

The actual process is very interesting and is about a special new software that operates in matter and activates its parts to reunite, divide, get closer, then draw further apart, and form new creatures that are increasingly more developed.

We are facing a problem as to which approach we should support: the scientific or the religious approach and whether this program operates from Above or whether it is imprinted in matter that looks for optimal solutions in every state and at every moment of its existence.

The truth is that there is no real difference between the two approaches and it is only about a political struggle between them. Today we see that it makes no difference which definitions we use and it makes no difference whether we speak about nature or God. It is clear that it all exists according to a program typical of the forces of nature that operate in matter.

Everything happens for a reason; nothing happens suddenly and develops by itself. On the other hand, nature doesn’t look for the right evolutionary objects and the right direction of cooperation among the billions of specimens. Such assumptions do not stand the test of time.

And so it should be recognized that there is a plan of nature dictating the process of our evolution from the levels of the still, vegetative, animate, man, and whatever follows him, because we haven’t reached the end of our evolution and each of us has to develop into something. Today we seem to be facing problems and hopelessness, but we still have to keep on evolving.

We see the evolution of matter in the still, vegetative, and animate in the form of desires, thoughts, intentions, and the mental forces in matter, in the creations that are part of our evolution and which lead matter to more and more sophisticated forms: from simple microorganisms to bigger and more sophisticated creatures.

The cells divide according to their function and form different organs in the process of multiplying. This takes many years of evolution, of course, but as a result of this evolution, the vegetative level began to develop. Then a special program began to operate and gave birth to life forms on the animate level.

Accordingly, there are transitions between the still and vegetative, the vegetative and animate, and between the animate and human levels.

All these processes took millions of years. Evolution has always been in the direction of connection between more and more parts and their division according to their functions, their attributes, and their different roles. Thus the cells that built up the different organs of the body, the brain, heart, liver, bones, tendons, flesh, skin, etc., are different parts within the whole.

They make up more complex systems that are connected in different manners; it is all in order to sustain life within a body. In addition, man is also conscious and has feelings and a mind that allow him to experience deep feelings and to discover the world.

The question is why is all this necessary? What is the purpose of this wonderful creature in which all the processes that take part in him are still a mystery? Why has nature created such complex creatures?

There is no answer to that for the time being because we don’t see the goal of creation and its purpose. However, all four levels of the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking are right before our eyes in the form of the universe, the Earth, and life on Earth.

What is more, man belongs to the animate world physiologically, but the one difference is that he develops from one generation to the next and changes his environment accordingly.

In the future, we will probably become familiar with the program that is imprinted in nature as it is fulfilled in man and brings him to the next phase. In the meantime, we don’t see the reason for this whole evolutionary process that has made the creation of the universe worthwhile.

In any case, as much as we understand the findings of our studies, we cannot attribute this process to blind nature. On the contrary, we gradually understand that it is all under the meticulous control of the general program of nature.

Question: What can you say about American unity?

Answer: America is a nation in which nobody is ashamed of showing his ego in a framework determined by social law.

The United States is the dominant power, pressuring and guiding the world, pushing it in the direction that it thinks is correct. Certainly, in playing the role of a hegemon (leader or dominance), the American people first and foremost require unity, for absolute separation dwells there now. The main thing is not to touch each other: This is yours and that is mine.

So from the point of view of the wisdom of Kabbalah, the present state of this nation in our global world is first of all a threat to America itself. This is because we are under the control of an encompassing natural system that manages us. In the present situation, America is completely opposite to the system of collective integral leadership that is now being revealed.

The Americans are very great individualists and the fall, which is liable to happen, threatens not only them but the whole world as well. So I would want to see America in particular, more than any other nation (certainly other than Israel), use of the wisdom of Kabbalah, which will make it possible to cushion this fall.

The Jews have been persecuted throughout history. However, the charges against them are always different: the death of Jesus, the economy, politics, and world dominance. It seems illogical, since the reasons change all the time while the hatred remains.

The world is evolving and internalizing new values, such as tolerance and human rights. In the West, the religious hostility from the past no longer exists, but the hatred towards the Jews has not lost its fervor.

In the background facts are distorted, sometimes completely unrealistically. They blame us for things that have no relationship with reality and even such things that cause real damage to us. Our footprints are found in a wide range of disasters and there are an endless number of fabrications.

Disproportionate reactions to the Jewish question have become a tradition. Thirty-five percent of the decisions of the UN Human Rights Council condemn Israel, 60% of the emergency meetings of the UN General Assembly are convened against Israel and 70% of the current decisions are devoted to Israel.

In the past year, a UN translator forgot to turn off her microphone and expressed herself regarding the strange obsession of the world community in connection to Israel while other nations are encountering innumerable problems.

In brief, Israel focuses the attention of the world upon itself as a negative factor that invites general revulsion and hatred.

It is even more surprising considering the background of the investment of Jews in many different areas of world development.

As we have previously indicated, the nations of the world feel a fundamental and internal opposition towards the Jewish people in whose possession are two forces—bestowal and reception—while they themselves only hold onto the egoistic force of reception.

So our acts of kindness and charity don’t interest anyone. Unconsciously we are waiting for the world to recognize our service, “Look at how much benefit we have brought.” However, this benefit is not taken into account and is irrelevant, and nobody is even asking us for these favors. Instead and on the contrary, people feel that we are the bearers of evil. They really feel this.

It would seem that everything is clear: Our Nobel Prizes and the rest of the awards present as irrefutable proof, whereas our harm is dished out in the form of baseless libel and slander. And even so, everyone believes in the negativity and doesn’t take the positive into account.

The time has come for us to understand this approach of the nations and understand that they demand something else from us. They demand that we make their lives better.

Baal HaSulam, “The Peace”: And humanity has already thrown itself to the extreme right, as with Germany, or to the extreme left, as with Russia. But not only did they not ease the situation for themselves, they have worsened the malady and agony, and the voices rise up to the sky, as we all know. 

Today all the means that were useful in the past are invalid. It makes no difference how we choose to advance, what plans we make, or what recommendations or innovations we come up with. Eventually all this will only deepen the crisis we are in, force us to waste our powers in vain, and increase pain and suffering.

So what can we do? A wise man tries to identify the whole process in advance from beginning to end in regards to a predetermined goal. If we do this, we will certainly save ourselves pain and follow the way that will still bring us to the same outcome.

On the other hand, as long as we keep postponing the only possible correction, the unpleasant phases will only be stretched out and prolonged. If we continue to advance along the corporeal egoistic plane, we raise our ego each time and overcome the bad states that are revealed. Our ego keeps on growing and we invent more and more new sophisticated innovations in technology, means of communication, or legislation.

Instead of a king, we have a parliament; we save money in bank accounts and give priority to private enterprises. Why is this so? In order to give people different opportunities to fulfill the egoistic desire and thus keep advancing. We are in perpetual motion, and on each level we discover its worthlessness the moment when we cannot satisfy the demands of our developing desire by ourselves and it forces us to keep on developing.

Today, the desire has reached a certain level of satiation and now we can decide what to do with it. It doesn’t matter what means we try, nothing is successful. Matter, the desire to receive, which has been the basis for the development of human society for thousands of years, is no longer fruitful. Competition can no longer be the engine of progress.

We are in search of new directions, trying to understand what else we can do. But we find nothing. There are no more opportunities in industry, commerce, or science. We have fulfilled and exhausted ourselves.

Of course, we would rather believe that this is a temporary dead end before a new breakthrough, but there is a fundamental problem here: We have developed society only in order to use the power of our ego. Today the ego doesn’t work anymore.

Therefore, we mustn’t continue our advancement in the directions that we have developed so far. The egoistic force, the basis of our progress has exhausted itself. We can already see that it has begun to consume itself.

In the past, a person wanted to have a family, bring up his children, build a home, and become rich. Only a decade or two ago, these goals and demands were clearly understood. But today, many people are not attracted to it. The old values are suddenly gone. It is therefore better to sit and smoke a joint, which has become practically legal, and that’s it.

Humanity has lost the hold and supporting pillar of the ego, which has been our engine of progress throughout history. Although governments and the media still manage to blur reality, there is actually nowhere else to which we can advance.

If we continue to hold on to the peak and keep on delving deeper into the diminishing pool of opportunities, the troubles will only increase. The more we continue to advance along this path, the quicker our negative development will be. The wrong use of the ego and its overuse in our times will eventually show us that it doesn’t work anymore. The uselessness of self-love is now becoming evident.

We already see behavioral mutations in the relations between people and countries. Many don’t even want to think rationally as to whether it is good or bad for them, but simply act out of their impulses and prefer not to think about the outcomes. Thus the ordinary egoistic behavior is gradually changing.

This is a very dangerous phase since it can lead to an outburst in any possible direction. Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah is being revealed, and although it is seemingly an artificial thing, unnatural for us, it is actually the right and natural thing.

If we have already exhausted our human egoistic impulse to advance and develop, then there is only one thing left to do: ascend to the next level that is above self-love. There is another force in the world besides the force of receiving, which is the force of bestowal. So why don’t we establish a new humanity on the basis of this attribute? Why don’t we establish our relationships upon it? Let’s use the second force in nature. We mustn’t continue to ignore bestowal. It has always been at our disposal, but we didn’t feel a need for it because the ego pushed us forward and considered the force of bestowal redundant.

The force of receiving burnt in us more and more and we didn’t even think that bestowal provides us with greater opportunities to advance. It is because with the help of bestowal we use the external vessels of the environment, which are the desires, the attainments, the connections and the great mind, the great force that is on the outside. We never even thought that we could develop along the positive path with the help of the force of bestowal.

Bestowal is based on mutual benefit. It opens up infinite perspectives because humanity can finally unite powers instead of wasting them on inner struggles, because it is actually the separation that weakens us. It is just like a rich couple who gets divorced and their lawyers get all their money. Eventually the two sides are left with nothing compared to what they had before.

On the whole, competition and ambitiousness help us advance only if we don’t directly compete with one another on the basis of mutual hate, but instead, we do this on the conceptual level, for the sake of humanity. Today the competition between us is who is better and whose merchandise is better. In this kind of struggle each one wants to wipe out the competition, which is a destructive state not a constructive one. In such cases it isn’t the general wellbeing that wins and it is therefore harmful to all of us.

We have now begun a period of destructive competition. As a result, the ego begins to consume itself and becomes an illness that destroys people. In the past the ego was the developing force, but now it has become a destructive force.

Question: You suggest contending with the rise in prices with the help of connection and unity of the society so that it will become more equal and balanced? How can the thoughts of people lower the prices in practice?

Answer: In a society, if the general opinion prevails that it requires more equality and balance, this will influence even the capitalists, that this is apparently beneficial and profitable for them. This is because they are also found under the influence of society, and these thoughts are also conveyed to them.

It is not even obligatory to talk about this; they will feel the general desire. This is called the influence of the environment on a person. The main thing is that in the face of this example of lowering prices, each one will understand the principle that is to be used to solve various problems. If we attain unity in society, then we can not only lower the cost of living, but also strengthen security, health, education, and reduce unemployment.

We have a mechanism in our hands which acts in every realm of life. Social consensus is a unique power that makes it possible to solve all problems in society. It even removes the external threats that don’t seem to be directly connected to our inner unity, such as from the intifada and anti-Semitism.

The idea is that here the same principle is at work. All of humanity is nourished by the people of Israel. And the other people feel this and blame Israel for their problems. If the people of Israel unites within itself, then it will be good for all of humanity.

And this must be a good social consensus, and not as it is with the nationalists and the fascists. The agreement is based upon love, concessions, equality, closeness, and warmth.  “And you shall love your friend as yourself” is the basis for the people of Israel. The time has come to remember that “All of Israel are friends.” This is part of the culture of our people that is always concerned about mutual help, although it seems that now we have forgotten this.

Once this system of mutual help was based upon religious tradition, but for some time it hasn’t existed in this previous form. We only need to revive it, return to that form in which the people of Israel always existed.

Question: Do you think that society is ready to have such a strong influence on a person?

Answer: There are many studies that prove that a person is fully found under the influence of the environment. Even apes on an isolated island suddenly begin to behave identically as apes on a neighboring island. We are found in a system of natural laws.

Journalists complain that without coordination between them, they give identical titles to articles that come out on the same morning in different newspapers. Thoughts roam the world and are passed from one to another, for all of us are connected to a single system.

The world has become global and interconnected, like a small village. And this is not thanks to the Internet, but because we have developed to such a state that our desires, thoughts, and inner feelings are connected with all people in the world.

This also helps in the development of external connections: McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, the Internet, and the English language are in every corner of the world. This unification fulfills all the hard work for our unification. As a result of this, we are beginning to understand and feel each other to a greater degree, and to have more influence over each other.

And here the crisis erupts; the ego doesn’t let us maintain good connections, rather only bad connections. If in general there were no connection, this wouldn’t be so bad since there wouldn’t be any dependence on each other, neither good nor bad. But today, a connection is created between us and this connection is bad, causing a general crisis throughout the world.

And the Jews, the people of Israel, are responsible for the emergence from the crisis. Only they can change the general manner of connection. These connections are already impossible to rend, and it is possible only to correct them into good connections.

We must gradually get used to unity and connection being the mechanism, the means, for any changes. And the changes can take either a good direction or a bad direction, for unity can also be Nazism. “Fascism” is translated as unification, but such unification is not for the good of society. If we don’t want the world to unite on the basis of fascism, we must present it with an example of a good connection.

The People of Israel Must Carry Out their Mission

But now, after the atomic and hydrogen bombs, I think that the world will believe me that the end of the world is approaching and coming in rapid steps; and Israel will be burned first before the other nations, as it was in the previous war; so today it is good to awaken the world to accept its only remedy and continue to live and exist.

Question: Every person is on a search for happiness throughout his life. We look for what can bring us joy, love, elation, or peace. As a result, there is a need to turn to King Solomon’s famous book Ecclesiastes, which was written thousands of years ago.

I would like to understand why this story involves King Solomon and at a time of absolute prosperity? What is the message conveyed through this book?

Answer: What is Hevel Havalim (foolishness)? It is the bestowal and good attitude that stems from a person. The word “hevel” (“foolishness” in Hebrew) stems from the word “steam,” which is the breath that comes out of a person’s mouth, his attitude towards others, the Returning Light, by which he returns the good attitude to the world.

This is the only thing a person’s success and wellbeing depends on in this world. King Solomon teaches us how we attain happiness by this steam, which we create by our attitude towards others.

Question: I reflect on the environment and the environment reflects on me in response?

Answer: Yes. Everything depends on my attitude. The world is external to me and I don’t know it. But if my attitude towards the world is that I constantly take from it for myself, it seems dark. I constantly look for what else I can take for myself, and consequently, I remain empty. On the other hand, if I operate through what stems from me, I attain happiness.

Comment: But we usually understand the term Hevel Havalim (foolishness) as something that is hopeless.

Answer: It is because we understand it in our ego.

Question: Why did Solomon come to the conclusion that material acquisitions will never make a person happy?

Answer: Because this way we only expand our vessels of receiving, the desire to be full. When I want to buy something, to fill myself, I thus double my desire. Therefore it says that “a person dies with only half his desire in hand.”

What does it means that a person dies? That he kills his desire to receive. I wanted something and I got it. At the same time I receive the filling, my desire dies. Suppose I want to buy a house and I do it. I enjoy it for a couple of weeks, but gradually the pleasure diminishes until it disappears.

Question: I have a feeling that you are talking about people who have everything and feel emptiness, while a person who is not well off still desires something. How can the idea that a rich man buys a villa for a several million dollars and doesn’t feel any pleasure in it after a year help me?

Answer: Humanity advances along the path of its egoistic evolution, thus becoming more and more qualitative. The point isn’t that yesterday I wanted a two room apartment, today I need a four room apartment, and tomorrow a villa in an exclusive neighborhood. No. Our desire develops in a qualitative manner. The desire that develops in me today ceases to feel property as the goal of life. Humanity sees that it isn’t worth making such an effort for that.

Today the disappointment from life is much greater than looking for luxuries and prestige. I have become more indifferent and lazy. I want to be happy, but virtually. I want to feel happiness directly, and not through bricks called a villa, or a water reservoir called a swimming pool. I want to obtain an inner feeling! This is the whole problem, the plague of the century!

I have nothing to say to a person who still hopes that material acquisitions will bring him happiness. He sees his life as a process of working and in another ten years buying a house, two cars, having a family, and bringing up his kids. He considers this a good organized life. In that case he has to wait another ten years to see that it is all Hevel Havalim.

Question: Can we say that our spiritual advancement is parallel to the evolution of the world?

Answer: No. The corporeal world has already evolved to its ultimate phase. We on the other hand, are on the human level and can continue our evolution on a higher spiritual level.

This means that the still, vegetative, animate nature, and man in his animate nature, have exhausted all the options of their evolution. Therefore, the world doesn’t know how to go on. A person doesn’t have the powers or the right attributes to change anything. Civilization has reached a dead end in the course of its evolution and is now confronted with a general crisis in every aspect of life.

No one can see any way of putting an end to the situation we are in. There are, of course, wise guys in society who try to come up with solutions and thus advance, become more prominent, and make a profit from the current situation, but their suggestions very soon prove to be useless and are just like a hiring a “fakir per hour” and nothing more than that.

No matter what philosophers, economists, politicians, or sociologists say, they cannot offer anything constructive and positive. Although they see things correctly, and understand to some extent what is going on in society, their suggestions turn out to be totally absurd once put to a test. It is simply their ego that wants to say that it has some idea or a solution or at least a way to prevent the coming end.

We are in a very unpleasant state. The people have been anesthetized and thus keep on living with their small joys and sorrows, and staggering through their temporary existence as long things don’t get any worse.

For the first time in history, humanity is in a state of total apathy.

We have tried everything: feudalism, capitalism, socialism, and communism and now there is a certain inclination to return to the feudal system and split countries into small parts. It is the same idea as feudalism. Two hundred years ago, Germany was comprised of dozens of small principalities, and is now ready to split up again. Recently, there was a poll in Venice about breaking away from Italy.

They believe that there is something logical about this breakup: “If I detach myself from you and you detach yourself from me, we become independent administrative units and since we will be on our own, it will be easier to manage life within our borders.” The ego doesn’t conquer large areas, so it dominates small republics that have split up.

On the whole, they are very nationalistic and are even ready for sacrifice as long as they can be independent. The Catalonians, for example, cannot stand the Spanish and the Corsicans cannot stand the French and the Scots cannot stand the British.

This is a sign that we are not ready for unity and are trying to avoid it in any possible way, although nature obliges us to unite. If we were ready to unite, according to our parameters, feelings, and desires, there wouldn’t be any problems.

When the Europeans decided to establish the EU, they didn’t understand that they have to annul, not only the borders, but also to the imbalance between the states. They could have done all that, but their egos didn’t allow them to do so. It remained uncorrected and so many nations now want to go back to something more tangible and small and the feeling that “this is mine.”

Every one of the seven billion people on this planet is isolated in his corner. More and more people communicate with each other only through the Internet. Only the method of integral education provides a way out from this dead end.

Question: Today ISIS is attracting a great number of young people from different nations, including those who are not Muslims, but who have suddenly transformed their entire lives. What compels a young modern European to join such a strange organization having such absolutely different characteristics?

Could it be that its “power of attraction” is linked to the emptiness that encompasses the West? As far as it seems, ISIS is ready to provide a feeling of warmth, unity, brotherhood, family, purpose, and satisfaction.

By what means can we attract a young person to us? How could world unity in his eyes tip the balance towards our side instead of the ideas of these Eastern extremists?

Answer: It is necessary to recruit him to another army, an army in which he will fight for equality, a better life for all, and unity that includes a mutual basis for goodness. It is necessary to create special forces, which will be an organization that will overcome ISIS on an ideological front.

This is because we, in fact, are offering world revolution to a person, which is the transformation of the world into a garden of Eden where everyone is equal, happy, and provided with necessities and security for today and tomorrow. Everyone can be in a good mood and think of how to make things good and pleasant for others. There will be a line of balance among us where no one needs to be concerned about what will happen to himself at the present and in the future. Here, our health, children, and all aspects of our lives are okay.

Question: But for the young, sometimes something is required beyond the pastoral, a possibility of going wild, using force, pouring out their energy.

Answer: Well good, a person must fight, but instead of fighting enemies, he fights the ego itself that is not interested and doesn’t want any of this.

Basically I don’t want to unite and connect with others; I don’t feel a particular drive towards this. Yes, I am ready to receive the benefits that we outlined above, but to give something in return, no. So I must struggle with myself for this unity.

Question: Why does ISIS have such a power of attraction?

Answer: This is the power of security. Standing under a black flag, a person is sure that he has support and purpose. So he goes to conquer the world with his head raised proudly.

Question: How is it possible to create a similar positive pride about unity?

Answer: This is through an educational process that we must implement. It is possible to do this.

There is knowledge and there is education, and these two methods must be used here in parallel.

If terrorists are organizing tens of thousands for their own purposes, then we, with the help of various countries and international institutions, are able to reach billions, to hold `relevant conventions and get down to business everywhere in Europe, Africa, America, etc. After all, if we are open and our intentions are clear, we can mobilize enormous resources and support around the world for implementation.

In principle, we are saying to everyone: “There will be no more wars; there will be no more borders. This is one family, except for the terrorists, all of them. They are the only ones we have to rein in at this stage, until they disappear.”

Question: Is there some kind of significance to the fact that one force, one enemy, is threatening all of us, requiring us to unite against it? Will this be used to change global thinking?

Answer: I don’t think that the purpose of our unification must be a war with this force. Uniting against evil means learning some of its characteristics. Certainly the army must stand against the terrorists, but we don’t have any real possibility of stopping them once and for all through this.

So at the same time we, the citizens, must take care of ourselves and must unite with each other.

Question: You say that a human being, as the uppermost link of nature, strongly affects its processes. If that is the case, would it be possible to anticipate a disaster like the avalanche in Nepal?

Answer: That depends on the level of our development. If we take part in nature and discover its inner forces, its general process, its system and purpose, then without a doubt we can see how events are connected, not only in our world, but also in the higher worlds. For nature encompasses all of reality, including that which is now hidden from us.

Question: There have always been people who were capable of feeling what was not accessible to others’ perception. For example, even today the army uses Bedouin trackers in certain areas because they are capable of identifying things according to “imperceptible” signs more than a regular person could. But the disaster in Nepal unexpectedly caught even the local inhabitants who had generations of experience behind them. They didn’t feel the approach of trouble either. Why?

Answer: We are approaching the stage where a person must become aware of nature and take its management upon himself. But today, we are still not aspiring to this, and as a result, the Bedouins, Himalayan guides, and other natural experts are losing their ability to read nature.

So in this present stage, we need to penetrate into a new depth, discover its program and purpose, and gain understanding of its evolution. Since we are behind in this, we haven’t attained powers on a larger scale and so remain helpless.

Question: What is this new depth of nature?

Answer: This is the same level we must become familiar with, and we need the wisdom of Kabbalah in order to reach it. Therefore, it has been revealed in our day.

The wisdom of Kabbalah develops sensitivity within us to the general and comprehensive power of nature. Even though natural folk experts may discover particular and separate forces of nature, today these abilities just about don’t exist because a general global force is being discovered more and more.

It is influential through the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature, but mainly through humans on a level that is not accessible to the children of the hot deserts, the snowy mountains or the virgin forests. Behind the nature that is familiar to them lurks the natural contour of the whole of creation.

Question: How is it possible to get a good response from nature?

Answer: We will not receive a good response from nature as long as we haven’t attained and understand the entire system. We must move towards this, and to do so, we specifically require the wisdom of Kabbalah. This is because it opens our eyes to the system. Then we are able to see how to be included in it correctly. If at every moment, we are concerned about holding onto our balance with nature, then everything will calm down, work out, and we will acquire security in a good and peaceful life.
