The Special Force Of Holidays

laitman_744Question: Is there a special force that operates on us and affects us? Is there a special illumination that shines upon us?

Answer: A holiday is a special state in the world when the desire becomes similar to the Light in some way and the cooperation between the desire and the Light is called by a special name that matches the Kabbalistic Gematria (numerical value of the Torah). A holiday is typified by the accumulation of the previous levels up to a certain new qualitative level.

In our life, for example, psychology is a very meaningful field: child psychology, the psychology of the masses, social psychology, etc. In these frameworks we tend to picture ourselves in different situations and we feel them only because we want to feel them so much. But these are not spiritual states and have nothing to do with the holidays.

A person who is climbing the spiritual ladder, on the other hand, awakens unto himself and unto the nation a special wave of influence from that level, even if he hasn’t attained the level of the holiday, by the mere fact that he tries to rise to it by performing certain mechanical actions in our world together with the whole nation. This is possible only when they all yearn to attain it together.

During the holiday of Shavuot (Giving of the Torah), for example, we see the location of the planets, the moon, and the sun that match this spiritual action, which means that the upper force is also arranged in a certain way. If in addition to that, the whole nation yearns for it, it will receive a special illumination since the whole hierarchy of the system of creation is synchronized. But an ordinary person who knows nothing about the spiritual work and simply does what he has been taught doesn’t perceive this illumination and only has the psychological feeling of this holiday. However, people who yearn for the inner meaning of the holiday feel a certain illumination and therefore can perform additional corrections during this time.

The Destructive Force Or The Creative Force

laitman_232_08It is written in The Zohar: As long as the Tabernacle was not set up, there was hostility, envy, conflict, contention and controversy in the world…

If two opposite forces act on the same substance sharing the same space, then when they encounter each other they create states of hatred, enmity, rivalry, conflict, and controversy.

So this is speaking about states that exist between two different opinions, actions, directions, and goals. A war is going on between opposites.

…indeed since the Tabernacle was set up and love, sympathy, connection, justice and support were granted to the world.

Above the two opposing forces a third force arises, which become their reconciliation. It uses all of the negative situations that are created between contrasting characteristics in an opposite manner—for connection and the attainment of a new characteristic from this connection.

It is possible to reach love, connection, kindness, and agreement solely and only if this is preceded by the identification the opposing characteristics between the two forces, opposing states like hatred, envy, competitiveness and so forth. Only after that is it possible to correct their connection.

The forces themselves remain. We don’t correct them because they are opposite in their nature, like plus-minus, electron-positron. Not only can we not do anything, but also we don’t even have the right to try to change them. And we can indeed influence their cooperation and create all kinds of things among them.

For example, what is the basis for every weapon? Two opposing characteristics and their mutual destruction; from the rift between them they are brought together.

And conversely, creation is based on the correct use of plus and minus where we put some kind of device between them so that the two forces will complete each other, the completion being love, justice, and agreement.

When two opposite forces don’t bump into each other but work with a common effort, they become a creative force, a constructive force.

Commemorative Holidays Are Levels Of The Spiritual Ascent

laitman_285_02There are levels in the spiritual ascent that have each have a unique quality and value, and are called commemorative dates.

A commemorative holiday is a special date in the spiritual work that has nothing to do with the other days of the year that correlate to the movements of the sun, the moon, and the earth.

When a person ascends to a level of a special holiday (Moadi), it affects his past, present, and future, and everything he has done throughout his life in a special way. What is more, it can raise him to a new level either temporarily or permanently.

These special holidays differ, but each time they have a qualitative effect on a person, and therefore they are noted in the Torah.

All that is said in the Torah says and that we should know is about the spiritual ladder on which we ascend by correcting ourselves as compared to the Creator. There is nothing but that.

Our lowly, worthless, empty life and every event that takes place in our life is added to this ladder since it is based on the correction of the desire. The desire is the only matter of creation that includes the levels of evolution of the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking nature.

The desire grows continuously, rises, and is corrected. This movement perceives and absorbs the matter of all the worlds and the force that controls this matter.

These special dates are special levels on which there are vertical and horizontal elevators as a result of previous accumulated merit. They suddenly erupt, connect and therefore provide the result.

The vertical elevator refers to descents and ascents, while a horizontal elevator refers to the connection of a great number of small souls, of fragments, that on the current level suddenly begin to merge. Even in our world, a commemorative date is a massive event.

Theses include the rise of individuals in their comprehension and creation also can be attributed to them, but only one that develops in our perception of something massive. Thus, these two phenomena are part of the commemorative dates.

Consequently, there are horizontal elevators for the masses and vertical elevators that connect the holidays, interestingly, complementing one another. On the one hand, a single figure has an impact on history, and on the other hand, the masses have an impact on history. History means advancement.

The question is whether one can be used instead of the other. Practical experience shows that a housewife cannot run the country, but will the masses be able to replace a special figure if they are connected?

This is possible when a perfect correction is attained. In this case, the masses become the most outstanding figure by perceiving and absorbing all the individual Kabbalists and becoming as one man in one heart like at the gathering at Mount Sinai.

Comment: But then Moses was the leader.

Answer: Moses is the collective figure of the nation that yearns for the Creator who can gather and assemble its highest points that are detached from whatever is below. The sum of these yearnings is called Moses.

Passover – The Level Of The Exodus From Egypt

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus,” 23:4 – 23:8: These are the Lord’s appointed [holy days], holy occasions, which you shall designate in their appointed time: In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month, in the afternoon, [you shall sacrifice] the Passover offering to the Lord. And on the fifteenth day of that month is the Festival of Unleavened Cakes to the Lord; you shall eat unleavened cakes for a seven day period. On the first day, there shall be a holy occasion for you; you shall not perform any work of labor. And you shall bring a fire offering to the Lord for a seven day period. On the seventh day, there shall be a holy occasion; you shall not perform any work of labor.

Question: Why is it forbidden to work on the first and last days of Passover?

Answer: It is because we distinguish between two states in the spiritual work: awakening from below and awakening from Above.

During the awakening from below we evoke the cooperation between the Light and the vessel by our yearning. The Light corrects the vessel and gives it the right intention. During the awakening from Above, this work is fulfilled from Above but only because we have created all the right conditions for it in advance.

We make efforts, thus creating the right conditions for the first and last days of the holiday since the week of Passover has to be closed at its ends by states in which we don’t do anything since the upper Light does all the work. The first day of the holiday is the beginning of the exodus from Egypt. The last day is the end of the exodus that seals it.

It is important to say that the nations of the world have different calendars. The Christian calendar is based on the movement of the sun. The Muslim calendar is based on the movement of the moon. While the Jewish calendar takes the movement of the sun, the moon, and the earth into account since the earth is the central object between the sun and the moon.

On the one hand, we take the year into account, which means the revolution of the earth around the sun, and on the other hand, we take the month into account, the revolution of the moon around the earth, and compare the two. Thus the Jewish calendar doesn’t change and so, for example, we can calculate in advance which day of the week will be the first day of Passover in another 35 years.

What is more, based on the comparison between the movement of the sun, the earth, and the moon, we can say that Passover cannot be on certain days of the month. This means that everything is accurately related to the general astrological system.

Question: The Torah refers to holy assemblies several times. Why do we have to gather in Passover?

Answer: Holy assemblies during Passover are the most important thing for the Israeli nation since it is actually thanks to their desire to unite that they need to come out of Egypt.

A person’s union with a group of people, with the society, with the nation, or with the whole world is actually different levels of the exodus from Egypt (from the ego). When we attain the force of unity, a certain tension, this exodus, the detachment from the ego, takes place.

It is always among us, separating us and making us feel repulsed by one another. If we begin to compress and condense it, try to unite and connect to one another, then the exit from the ego begins the moment we first attain unity.

On the first day of Passover (the exodus from Egypt) we begin to tighten this connection. Then we work on it during the week and totally unite on the last day of the exodus from Egypt. From that moment on we are a united nation.

But in the meantime, people don’t understand what they should do, although there is a direction that spurs the desire to escape from the ego. But it is merely an animalistic instinct without the proper awareness. People will acquire the recognition when they gather at the foot of Mount Sinai.

Coming Out Of The Dark Basement Into The Light

laitman_424_02The connection between the upper and lower systems of creation is according to the equivalence of form between them.

A child who is born in this world, for example, is the same child after a year only on a larger scale: in his mind, feelings, and his understanding—everything.

It is the same on the spiritual levels, on all 125 of them, since the lower level is connected to a higher level. A person always aspires to be on an higher level; this is what growing means.

The details on every level of a certain connection are the same, just like on the previous levels, but the connection becomes increasingly more altruistic. This is the only thing that changes. Therefore, our world is absolutely similar to the spiritual world, but their relationship is not similar, but inverse.

Our world is below the first level, like a cellar. Suppose that there is an elevator in a 125-story building that goes down to that floor below the first floor—which is the floor on which we live. However, the ascent from that floor is by a special key that is inserted into the elevator, and raises us.

In order to ascend from the very dark basement floor to the first floor, there is a need for an inversion because the elite live on the first floor and we aren’t allowed there. We must change completely in order to integrate in the new society. We need the most serious preparation in overcoming, correcting, and preparing ourselves.

All the next levels are merely in a relative ascent compared to each other, which means that the current level is a bit more qualitative than the previous one, and the next level is even more qualitative, and so on. We already know in which direction we must develop, performing increasingly more sophisticated actions with regard to others, by deeply understanding and cooperating with one another.

Question: Does this mean that we are working in the basement now and that our goal is to come out?

Answer: That’s right, and how can you guess what is happening above? There is thundering music there,  a dance, and the souls are celebrating—the souls and not the bodies! Here, the bodies are busy with wars, conflicts, and mutual hatred.

We cannot even imagine that when the elevator raises us we will see a fantastic, whole, and eternal world that is in perfect harmony and total connection and continuous exciting motion that fills and reveals the unity of creation.

Question: How do we feel that if we are siting in the basement? After all, are you saying that you still can hear the laughter and the music that comes from the upper floor?

Answer: It is with the help of the group and the teacher who can guide us like a tour guide. If we listen to him and try to establish such relationships in the group, we suddenly will begin to discover this music in our attempts, the special filling in the new sense, and the exit from self, a certain elevation to new dimensions.

The teacher must hint at that, and we must try to do everything that he says, no matter what attempts we make, no matter if we are disappointed by the outcomes. We only must lower our heads when facing the waves that come along. They must pass above you, and you will still reach your goal.

Thus, a critical mass of impressions that are not from this world is accumulated inside us. Even if they are not very accurate but rather foggy and created as a result of internal emotional hints, a person begins to get closer and closer to the first floor since an illumination operates on him from there. He hears music and senses the scents.

The elevator rises slowly and although a person is still in the dark, he feels from a distance that there is something out there, and that something is revealing in an increasingly clearer form and soon will be revealed.

The gap, between what he feels in his assumptions and the place where he is, grows bigger and bigger. His feeling that he is in the dark increases, and he is not enthusiastic about getting closer to the spiritual floor, but rather, he sinks into a great depression. This is the problem! It isn’t a physical ascent, but an opposite ascent.

Therefore, the general connection among us in the group together with the teacher, with studying according to a strict schedule, raises people. It is only that! Neither the mind nor a special feeling will lead to anything, but only blind stubbornness to reach the goal. We must hold to this by our teeth and keep on doing whatever needs to be done. Therefore, it is accessible to everyone.

The Priest’s Gene

Laitman_167The Torah, “Leviticus,” 22:12: “And if a Cohen’s daughter is married to a non-Cohen, she may [no longer] eat of the separated holy things.”

Sons and daughters of the Cohen (priest) is the level that follows him and should connect with the other levels in a very accurate manner according to the hierarchy.

On the whole, a daughter of the Cohen (priest) is married to a son of a Cohen (priest) and thus this balance is kept. But if it is disrupted, she draws away and is separated from her parents’ home since now she is totally under her husband’s domination. Even if she was connected to her father before, she now breaks away from her father and is connected through another male part.

Question: Does the generation of priests (Cohens) continue this way in the corporeal world too?

Answer: Geneticists who study this issue arrived at amazing results: starting from Aaron, which means from the time of Egypt onwards, they observed a very interesting genetic chain. They observed the same genetic sequence in a closed circle of people during 3,000 years. It turns out that you can study a person who is 3,000 years old and he is right before you like a living person. This doesn’t exist in any of the nations of the world.

Scrutiny Of The Heart

Laitman_509M. Weisman, “Midrash Sefer,” Chapter 96: The smoke from the fire that was lighted by the priests rose to the alter in the form of a vertical pillar and there was no wind that could sway it.

The rising of the smoke (Auchan) is the rising of a person’s hopes to the Creator. The smoke refers to the spiritual concept of world, year, and soul (Olam, Shana, Nefesh). A person unites all the actions inside him and performs a complete correction of the crudest and lowliest desire that includes all the desires that are above it.

Then smoke rises as a result of these actions and unites the world (Olam), year (Shana), and soul (Nefesh).

It is by this action that a person’s most concealed devious, egoistic desires are clarified, which a person previously concealed in his subconscious and now brings them out in order to be corrected. Their scrutiny is according to the result of their burning, according to the smoke.

If the smoke rises vertically, it means that the scrutiny has been done full heartedly and that a person’s intentions are clearly focused on bestowal. If it isn’t so, it means that we are not candid yet in the scrutiny of our egoistic desires and are still under certain external influences.

We mustn’t associate the descriptions of fire with our world and imagine any corporeal images. When we enter the story of the Torah, the corporeal description should be transformed correctly into an internal feeling.

Only then is it possible to be incorporated in the story and to start identifying with what is going on, to feel ourselves both as an object that performs these actions and as an object on which these actions are being performed.

It is then that a person begins to understand that the whole Torah is inside him and he performs it in order to unite with the actions that are described in the Torah. He reformats himself with the help of the Torah.

This means that a person performs a spiritual action; a person fulfills the instructions of turning his ego into the state of love and bestowal.

The inner force called Torah helps him perform the action on himself and then he resembles it. It enters him and begins to change all his desires and intentions, and as a result be becomes similar to the Torah.

The Nation’s Servants

laitman_937According to The Book of Zohar everyone should reveal an action below. Therefore Aaron performed an action below, seven days of holiness during which he didn’t come out of the Tent of Meeting, and then he offered sacrifice on the eighth day in order to invoke the action from above by which general unity is revealed. Then all the worlds that the priest (Cohen) awakens receive the blessing, and the priest himself is filled by the wholeness as required.

It is about the need for Aaron’s bestowal (the complete attribute of bestowal) unto the people (the other attributes) just as unto a group, which by gathering, affects the force that is above it since Aaron cannot influence it.

He has to perform an action below in order to unite the people and then they influence the upper force. Then the upper force can influence Aaron even more so that he can unite the nation even more strongly and then they influence the upper force even more. This is a continuous cycle.

It turns out that Aaron and the nation depend on each other. The upper force responds to the request of the nation, to its call, to its prayer (the prayer of many).

Aaron can only be a teacher and raise the prayer of the nation upward, but the nation operates him. It is thanks to the nation that Aaron receives spiritual elevation and all the others ascend through him in their turn.

A Vague Revelation Of The Creator

I Don’t Know, You Will Find This

laitman_525Question: Should it enter into us as axiom that the Creator is the characteristic of bestowal and love?

Answer: We cannot take this even as a hypothesis let alone an axiom, because with the help of an axiom, we solve precise physical problems.

I must accept and perceive Him specifically as not existing according to my characteristics and feelings. He doesn’t exist for me, because I don’t exist for Him. I don’t even have one characteristic in me that will be like Him so that through this characteristic I would be able to understand, feel, and determine precisely that this is Him.

He is not outside of me, this is a characteristic that is only within me, and so the Creator (Bore) is called, “Bo-Re” (come and see). In the Hebrew language all definitions are very precise because they are derived from the attainment of reality. All of the names are based upon practical actions. So the Creator indicates that when I will come and see, I will find Him.

Coming means gradually attaining the characteristic of bestowal. Then within that I will begin to feel the reality that is the Creator. Only by creating this within me can I determine what the Creator is. But if I don’t discover the characteristic of bestowal and love, this indicates that He doesn’t exist. And this is the relationship.

Question: Must an internal war happen inside of me for this?

Answer: No internal war happens inside of you, rather there is an internal investigation.

For if you have a desire to attain, to see, to determine, to feel, to be filled, with this knowledge, meaning that this need is alive inside of you, then according to the scent, according to your sixth sense, you will understand that there is something here for you, you cannot escape it, you must clarify everything and be infected with this.

But if you don’t have an inner drive like this, then you will only yawn and lie down on the couch again. It could be that you will want to satisfy your curiosity or will try to derive benefit from this: do some magic, experimentation, mysticism, and attract girls through interesting conversation. There were a few people who were with us who were only nourished by curiosity and being filled with knowledge. And they all left; they couldn’t hold on.

How To Avoid A Hopeless Situation

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus”, 22:26 – 22:28: And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: When an ox or a sheep or a goat is born, it shall remain under its mother for seven days, and from the eighth day onwards, it shall be accepted as a sacrifice for a fire offering to the Lord. An ox or sheep you shall not slaughter it and its offspring in one day.

This is speaking  about the corporeal part of a person’s desire and how it can be raised and corrected in relation to the previous level.

First, there is development in utero and then the period of suckling. A week is enough for an animal to receive and to adapt to a whole level of HGT NHYM, since an animal goes through only seven levels of development and not ten like man.

During the seven days (seven levels) the animal receives and adapts to everything from the upper level and detaches from it. It lives according to instinctive laws, and therefore a human being that is on the animal level works instinctively.

When you look at the world you see that everyone learns from others how to live and repeats what they see. Animals don’t have the three upper Sefirot that symbolize a head and therefore their head is on the same level as their body, not above it.

The same thing happens today, with a world that is currently on the animal level of development. Its head disappeared some ages ago when the real great minds disappeared.

Humanity evolves in a totally automatic manner, despite what scientists, philosophers, governments, bankers, or the masses say. They only pile up their meager  changes on every level of nature, but it does not at all change the perception of their evolution.

The critical moment was when man began to produce and earn more than needed. From that point onward, capitalism began to develop, but until that moment everything was simple and natural. Man lived by providing his basic necessities, not because he wanted to, but because there were no new technologies to help him.

But when man invented the plow that allowed him to plow deep into the ground, he began to engage in making pottery and metal working, which were opportunities to make greater profits than needed.

The added value inspired the ego and the ego began to spur the added value. Instead of the internal, moral, ethical development of man, the world turned in the direction of technological development and this was the turning point that determined the direction humanity would follow.

But today we are at the end of this path, where our technological development is collapsing and we are facing a hopeless situation. We must understand that we have to decrease our desires to a level that is suitable for a decent living. It is as in mathematics: a necessary and sufficient condition. This means that consumption should be sensible, while all our energy and options should be focused on attaining the upper goal and making ourselves human beings together with all of humanity.

Comment: It turns out that there is no choice, just like in Pushkin’s legend of The Fisherman and the Golden Fish. He should have stopped when he had the luxury palaces, but the old woman couldn’t and eventually she was left with nothing,. We are at that same point right now.

Answer: But we have the option of a soft landing. By using the wisdom of Kabbalah we can show humanity, in a good and sensible manner, what would happen if we don’t accept this method. Otherwise we will still fulfill the goal of creation, but in a hard way, through revolutions, wars, and problems.

We see how conflicts suddenly break out in a seemingly empty place. You just need to strike a match. There is great hatred in the world as everyone hates everyone else and therefore the tiniest spark can start a fire.

We have to do our very best to make the world understand that the Torah speaks about the improvement and modifications of man along a good, healthy, safe, smooth path of harmonious evolution. Haven’t we suffered enough that we don’t want that? Do we have to suffer a lot more in order to change our path towards positive evolution? Therein lies our problem.
