The Group Is the Guarantor of Safety

528.03Question: Very often disagreements arise between several friends in a group, sometimes even of a purely corporeal nature. Is it possible for a person to insure against this?

Answer: No. Not in any way! We need to increase disagreements. A person will have the strength to overcome them if he has a strong ten that will hold him and secure him like climbers secure themselves. But all the same, he will always fall into an egoistic abyss.

If the group does not break up and holds on, it will pull him up, it will help, and he will again get hold of the goal with his teeth and pull himself out. The ten helps, but it cannot work instead of him. It gives the importance of the goal and throws the end of the rope: “Please, be strong,” and he has to pull himself up on his own.

But it happens that everything is in your hands, just latch the carabiner! But the friend does not want to tie himself to the others because that is it: “They will drag me, and I will no longer be able to detach myself.” He cannot. Here, latch the carabiner—but no! And he will move away, tangentially, on his own. There is a special trajectory along which a person moves away from the group: along a parabola, gradually, not abruptly.

He begins to be interested in some other similar things to be fulfilled with money, fame, power, knowledge; he is under some other stronger influence. In general, this is a problem.

But the crisis that is developing around helps a lot. People have nowhere to go, they begin to understand that we  are talking serious business, that we are sober, normal, rational people, that we actually know nature, both man and the world around us, and that we are not mystics, but, on the contrary, realists. And they see they are the mystics.

In the end, they will see: “No matter how much we despise them, hate them, and are ready to crumble and grind them, it turns out that they are right.” And they will have to agree.

Creating a New Sensor for Perceiving the World

243.03Question: Is it possible to feel the Creator and the upper world before a person reveals the first degree of spirituality for himself?

Answer: How could this be done? What would you feel it with?

How is any sensing device arranged? It has a certain photosensitivity, i.e., sensitivity to certain waves or frequencies. It may not be our light, but it may rather be a laser, just like the way they etch motherboards, microprocessors, and so on, with one-zero, one-zero.

You need exactly these sensations: one-zero, one-zero, light-darkness, light-darkness, bestowal-reception, bestowal-reception, more-less, and where and how, in what qualities, in what connections, and so on. All of nature consists of these two forces; there is nothing else! You must create in yourself the maximum number of such comparisons: zero-one, plus-minus, bestowal-reception.

When a sufficient number of such “etched” spiritual zero-one, zero-one pairs are formed on your substrate, when you know that this is reception, this is bestowal, and this is reception, and this is bestowal, then you begin to feel the entire picture, since it can be depicted on the substrate in all its aspects, nuances, variations, and styles.

You need a great number of cells, zero-one, zero-one, reception-bestowal, reception-bestowal, in both height and width, i.e., a great number of various vectors. If you do not have such a substrate, how can you use something? You do not have a sensor!

How are our eye and brain arranged? How is everything arranged? What do we do all our lives until we become adults? We are constantly “etching” these cells in ourselves, accumulating the ability of a correct perception of the world. This is called education.

Here we have Kabbalistic, integral, spiritual education. Thus, you have to create such a sensor in yourself. Where can you escape to anyway? If you do not have it, where will you feel?

After all, you need to build it all. Kabbalah is the building of the organ of perception of the upper world that exists around us, but we do not feel. This is why it is called the wisdom of reception, the wisdom of perception.

Two Substances that Make Up Creation

746.01We must remember that the entire wisdom of Kabbalah is founded on spiritual matters that do not take up time or space. They are not subject to change or absence and all the changes that are spoken of in this wisdom do not imply that the first form becomes absent and is replaced by a different form. The above change rather implies an additional form, while the first does not move from its place (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot).

Question: What is this spiritual reality that has neither time nor space? How can one imagine it practically, not philosophically?

Answer: The Creator created desire. The desire itself is called “place,” and the thing it desires is “fulfillment.”

Fulfillment is the light that fills a desire, which feels itself being empty. And once it is full of light, it feels itself as being perfect.
The entire creation consists of these two substances, the place and the fulfillment.

Question: How should we imagine this? Should we imagine that this happened once upon a time or is happening now?

Answer: It is best to imagine that it happened in the past. Just like the Ari wrote: Know that before the emanated beings were emanated and the created beings created, an upper, simple light had filled the entire reality.

What does reality mean? It means a place. Then the Ari explains that it is the desire to feel light as fulfillment. The quality of light is to fill this desire in order to give it pleasure.

All this was happening before the Big Bang, before our corporeal reality appeared.

Resist Internal Problems

533.02Question: You said that in everything one should see the manifestation of the Creator, except for “leave.” But is “leaving” an inner feeling? After all, you are not being kicked out.

Answer: “Leaving” is an inner state when you are dragged all over the place seemingly by your personal thoughts, decisions, conjectures, and so on. And you resist them.

This does not refer to some external problems that a person has with a group, or at work, or at home, and therefore he is thrown out, no! These are precisely his internal problems, the inner call that tells him: “Go, do something more real, more necessary.” Therefore, he finds an excuse for himself and leaves.

But there are those who, despite all the real excuses, despite everything, say: “No! I will be engaged only in my spiritual advancement, and in everything else, only to the extent required for me to exist. Otherwise, there is nothing in this world, in this life.”

The Beginning Of Serious Spiritual Work

One Year for Three

294.1Question: When you studied Kabbalah, you did not have a group; there was only a teacher. How did you hold on to the importance of the goal in order not to regress in any circumstance?

Answer: It is a different path without a group. It is much more difficult and less effective. After all, I have not advanced at the pace that people who come to us today are advancing. It took me several years to grasp what a beginner grasps in six months or a year.

A person masters the initial stage that one goes through today three times faster than me and those who studied with Rabash. One year for three. What I comprehended in three years, our beginner comprehends in a year.

He gets intensively involved in the work, in understanding, in the system, and in the group. He is drawn into this all, receives explanations, and absorbs material through all the pores. If a person goes through a serious yearly practice with us, then in principle he lays down the foundations for the correction of the soul.

And then it depends on the person. But I believe that at least the first year is a necessary and sufficient condition to become a beginner Kabbalist. After that, if he decides, let him become a Kabbalist, that is, let him start working with himself.

I think that according to the measure of its expansion in the world and how it deepens into us, the preparation period will get shorter. People will start to absorb everything very quickly because it will be perceived through the surrounding ether, through the air.

Such surroundings will be created and such waves will affect us so that everything will seem to be clear! It’s like how children who are born today start playing with phones and computers already from the cradle. What I can’t do is nothing to them.

“How do you know what to do? Did you study somewhere?”

“Why study? Everything is clear anyway.”

That is, their internal logic is built according to what was created by other people in the last generation or a few years before their birth. It will be the same here.

Commentary on The Tree Of Life

209The book The Study of the Ten Sefirot (TES) is a commentary by Baal HaSulam on the Ari’s work The Tree of Life (Etz Chaim). It practically explains the entire basis of Kabbalah from beginning to end.

The book of the great Kabbalist of the 16th century: Ari’s The Tree of Life, of course, is not easy and this is especially so for beginners. But Baal HaSulam wrote a commentary on it, which you can gradually understand and this is where people who come to Kabbalah start during the first few years of study.

TES begins with the words of Ari.

Know that before the emanated beings were emanated and the created beings created, an upper, simple light had filled the entire reality. There was no vacant place, such as empty air and space, but everything was filled with that simple, boundless light. It did not have a quality of Rosh, or Sof, but it was all one, simple light, completely even, called light of Ein Sof (Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot).

This is about the fact that when there were no created beings as such, there was only one interesting substance called “the upper simple light that fills the entire reality.”

When reading these lines, questions immediately arise: What is a simple light? What kind of reality does it fill? What happened before it filled this reality? What does it represent? What does it mean that there was no free space, but the upper light was filling everything?

Moreover, Ari emphasizes that there was no free place in the form of empty air or empty space and everything was filled with infinite simple light. And, as he writes, there was neither beginning nor end in it, but everything was one simple, completely even light, which is called the light of infinity.

Rebuilding the System of Values

231.01Comment: You recently defined that the student can measure his progress by the extent that he tries to adhere with what the teacher tells him, meaning, the degree to which he replaces his opinion with that of his teacher’s.

My Response: This, however, is not an easy combination, it is not easy for a person to replace his opinion with the opinion of a teacher. This already is a high flight. Who can do it? I do not know.

This is possible when the student and the teacher are in adhesion, in connection. This is learning “from mouth to mouth.” The student rises by faith above reason contrary to his understanding and accepts the opinion of the teacher above his own and is happy about it.

This is a purely spiritual action that can only be done when you are inside a group that supports you because otherwise you have no strength for this; when you receive nourishment from the upper light it changes you. Thus you aspire to a state above reason and feelings. This is a completely different contact and is no longer our world.

Comment: Actually, this is impossible to do in our one-sided perception of the world.

My Response: Yes, you will have to change it. But this does not entail any physical changes. You just need to rebuild the system of values so that the opinion of the teacher, the opinion of the group, and that of the friends is higher than yours and you are ready to annul yourself before them. This is the minimum without which there is nothing more to do because in this way you rise above egoism and you have a new quality, the quality of feeling outside of yourself.

The quality of “feeling” the teacher, the friends, and the group means that you begin to feel something outside of yourself. In this “something outside of yourself” you will feel both the Creator and the upper world. You will make a substrate based on which you can feel this.

Why Is Criticism Encouraged in Kabbalah?

544Question: Why is it that no method accepts criticism of its so-called guru?

Answer: This is certainly incorrect. After all, we are engaged in the correction of man. Let him do anything he wants, just do no harm. Therefore, there are two very interesting laws in Kabbalah.

The first condition: You can do everything you want except harm the group where you study or slander it because this prevents attracting people who want to join this group.

The second condition: When it seems that the Creator tells you: “You will not succeed—why are you here?” You must stay and check! In general, you are given all the opportunities to intensely and fruitfully study, analyze, prove, ask, and convince.

This method requires a very tedious approach. You must bite into it and start implementing it on yourself together with the people who surround you, and not believe anyone. On the contrary, you must doubt everything.

Otherwise, how will you be able to rise and adapt to your teacher and try to be like him? It is from the denial—that he is not right—that you will understand what he is standing on and how he builds himself. This is the only way. After all, everything we have exists based on positive and negative.

If you do not have the opportunity to criticize and be in the state of opposition, how will you be able to build a state of similarity to the group, similarity to the teacher, and similarity to the Creator?

Coming from this point of view, you can see that all other methods are baseless because people who are engaged in them cannot make anything out of themselves. This is because from the beginning they are prohibited to have such a comprehensive, fearless, and critical attitude toward the very teaching, toward the inner movements, toward the friends, the teacher, and even toward the Creator.

How to Deserve a Good Attitude from the Creator

568.01On one side stands the Creator, on the other side I am, and between us in the middle is this torn, disassembled world. When I collect it more and more, like in a kaleidoscope, I gradually reveal the attitude of the Creator toward me.

Question: Is it good?

Answer: For this, I need to make myself good and then I will be able to see through this kaleidoscope, how it assembles everything correctly.

Question: What is “I am good”?

Answer: “I am good” is the one who sees only good in everything that exists in the world, the manifestation of the Creator. This is not easy. But this is what we must come to. Everyone should try to assemble the image of the Creator.

Question: Behind everything that is going on? Behind absolutely everything?

Answer: Of course, behind everything. As soon as my attitude changes like this, perfection will immediately be revealed.

Kabbalah Know-How

528.04Question: What is the difference between what the science of Kabbalah offers humanity and what ordinary education teaches about loving each other and being good children? What is our know-how?

Answer: Our know-how is that we need to create groups in which people would communicate with each other and begin to feel that by getting closer they really enter into a completely different sense of the world, and that it is in the closeness, and not children, but adults, they should rise above their egoism, above the force that separates them from each other.

People should understand that by coming closer despite opposing egoistic forces, they will be able to feel a completely different state of themselves, others, and the connection between themselves and others.

They should begin to feel the new state of society, which is based on friendship, love, and mutual support. This is what we need to teach them.

In principle, this is the basis of the holiday Tu B’Av (Day of Love) that follows the 9th of Av, which represents shattering, separation. The 15th of Av (Tu B’Av) means, on the contrary, unification, closeness.
