Strengthen the Circle of Bestowal

509Question: What determines the state of affirmation of the Creator’s power over oneself and how can we develop it?

Answer: It depends on how much you think about it, get closer to such thoughts and desires, and ask the Creator to make them the strongest in you. Gradually, this work leads to choosing the necessary desires and qualities to build the right Kli.

Question: How can everything we receive from the Creator be accepted properly and directed back to Him? What does it mean to constantly strengthen and maintain the circle of bestowal between me and Him?

Answer: We try to determine the intentions, desires, and thoughts of the Creator and why He does what happens to us. That way we will be getting closer to Him all the time.

Question: What is the identifier of my corrected qualities? And what is the quality of bestowal in the corrected qualities?

Answer: The quality of bestowal in the corrected quality can be determined by how much you rise to connection and mutual help with your friends. That is the most important thing, as it is said: let a man help his neighbor.

The Choice of a Kabbalist

961.2Question: What kind of tool is it that either creates or destroys?

Answer: These are our thoughts.

Using thoughts correctly means understanding that they all come from the Creator and are clothed in our friends and us. Of all our thoughts, we must determine which ones will help us move forward and which ones will not allow us to move forward. That is our choice.

Question: How can we go beyond the desire to receive in our thoughts?

Answer: Any thought reveals itself in the inner qualities of a person. Therefore, our job is to transform these qualities under the influence of the upper light into the qualities of bestowal.

How Can You Protect the Heart?

630.2Question: How do you protect the heart from selfish pleasures?

Answer: You have to start tracking what your heart feels. What exactly does it want? How does it seek to connect with the Creator? Is it the proper connection?

Comment: The right intention fades and turns into “for yourself.”

My Response: There are no excuses, you should check for this.

You have no other goal but to ask the Creator to open your soul, correct it, and fill it. That is what we need—three actions: to open, to correct, to fill. That is what you should ask the Creator for.

What Does the Science of Kabbalah Teach?

942Comment: The science of Kabbalah aims at the development of feelings. There is a strong desire to feel everyone in the ten. We are working and uniting, but there is a lack of feelings for each other.

My Response: Your egoism prevents you from being in clear connection with each other so that together, you can force the Creator to unite with all of you.

Question: So, do we need to run away from egoism?

Answer: Do not run away, but organize the correct connection between yourself and the Creator. That is what the science of Kabbalah teaches us.

Difference between States

528.02Question: How can I feel what state I am in, Katnut (small state) or Gadlut (big state)?

Answer: Check with your friends what you want when you are connected.

Comment: We want to reveal the Creator together.

Response: Then you need a big state—Gadlut.

Question: Is Katnut a constant state in the ten?

Answer: No, not Katnut, that is just a constant desire.

Keep the Image of the Upper World before Yourself

263Question: How can your students, who have not felt the spiritual world, rise above material things and advance toward the goal without feeling the spiritual system?

Answer: They must keep the image of the spiritual system before them, and try to envision that they are in it because they are actually in it, just not yet with feelings. But by imagining it for themselves, they need to try to act in such a way.

Like a small child who tries to imitate an adult while sitting behind the wheel of a toy car, so must we imitate as if we are in this system and driving it forward.

That is how we need to invest in the spiritual system. That is called practical exercises.

Gradually, we will begin to feel where we are in it and where we are not. There are many articles and much advice from Kabbalists devoted to this topic.

Practical Work with Intention

222How can you practically work with intention when you receive corporeal pleasure?

It does not matter whether I receive spiritual or corporeal pleasure, I must thank the Creator for it. Any pleasure can be clothed in the intention for the sake of bestowal. To do this, you need to analyze the pleasure received and surround it with your attitude toward the Creator and want to thank Him for the pleasure given to you.

I understand that pleasure comes from the Creator and I want to accept it with blessing, in reflected light, that is, in my response to the Creator. And I feel how this brings me closer to the Creator. It is as if the Creator takes a step toward me, gives me pleasure, and I, respond to Him with my grateful attitude, also take a step toward Him, and we become closer to each other. This means that I can now receive pleasure in the Kelim of bestowal.

The Creator dresses in corporeal clothes, because only in such low clothes are we still able to feel the pleasure given to us. The Creator is present in everything we enjoy: in a piece of bread, in sweet sugar, in a sip of water, in pleasant smells and sounds. The Creator clothes in all this and that is why we notice different changes.

When we unite and receive pleasure, we can bring contentment to the Creator. After all, it is He who, every moment and in every state, brings His light into every form of pleasure, unity, and mutual bestowal.

Overcoming Difficulties

112Question: In everyday life when we encounter difficulties and realize that we have no strength to overcome them, we stop making efforts. But in Kabbalah, on the contrary, the more a person goes through difficulties, the stronger he gets.

This is part of the path. But how can one avoid falling into this strange philosophy that if things are difficult, it means they are good?

Answer: No one says that difficult is good. Nobody welcomes difficulties. What for? To show that I am a hero and fight with windmills? That I am Don Quixote you can laugh at?

I want to reach the goal. If I need to make an effort, I will, because I look at difficulties as help, thanks to which I grow. After all, movement toward the goal can only be to the extent of my spiritual growth. That is why I need obstacles.

They are like problems that a school child solves in class. In spiritual work, we solve problems so that each of the difficulties creates a completely new perception and feeling of the world in us.

In principle, these are not even difficulties, but learning, adaptation, and enrichment with new things. This is how everything happens in science and other fields of knowledge.

How to Find Oneself and not Go Mad?

760.4The main goal of a person is to find himself. Only a few succeed. Everyone else is too lazy or cowardly to follow this path over the abyss. But the one who walked along it receives real life as a reward, and not a drab existence (Erich Maria Remarque).

Question: Why does it take courage to find oneself? And he also says that it is like crossing over an abyss. Why is finding oneself such a drama?

Answer: Because you must constantly build yourself, truly stabilize yourself like a tightrope walker over the abyss.

Question: So you are balancing, then what does “falling into the abyss” mean?

Answer: Disagreeing with the Creator.

Question: So is this whole passage about agreeing with the Creator in everything? Is that the little rope?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Where does it lead?

Answer: To nowhere. Are you looking for a reward now?

Comment: We keep bumping into that all the time.

My Response: No, there is nothing to bump into here. All of this should have been broken a long time ago and thrown into that abyss.

Question: I see. So, I am walking over the abyss to nowhere? And this is called “finding oneself”?

Answer: Yes. Finding oneself means to truly reveal one’s nature in full and smile at it.

Question: Is this called “crossing over the abyss”? And this is how I find myself?

Answer: I do not know if I should say “I find myself.” I am not for the idea that a person should feel like he is winning something. He does not win anything.

Question: Then what are we living for? I always want to get something.

Answer: How do you consider yourself better than an animal? You do not question their lives. So do not question yours either.

Question: So should I abandon all hope and live like this? What is “I”?

Answer: “I” is that in me that constantly seeks the meaning of life. And that is our life.

Question: The search for the meaning of life?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Will we ever find it?

Answer: I think it will reveal itself to us all, to absolutely everyone! But not in this world, not in this existence. It is absolutely impossible to realize, grasp, or reveal the meaning of life in our world.

Question: But we still have to cross over the abyss?

Answer: Yes.

Question: So, I am walking over the abyss and I know that it is not now, it is not here, and it is unknown what I will get, but I keep walking and walking?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Will I ever get something? You said, “It will reveal itself.”

Answer: You will, definitely.

Comment: It is not easy.

My Response: Do not say it is not easy or easy! It depends on how you relate to all of this. If you see the Creator, life, and so on in front of you, then you just walk, and you still want to understand what is given to you: why, what for, and how.

Question: So, all the time you seem to be saying this: do not wish for anything, do not have a desire to get something, but just go. That is how you live—just go! Can you live like that?

Answer: Yes, you can live like that.

Question: You keep walking and walking. Is this what life is?

Answer: Yes. It is easier if you do not ask, harder if you ask.

Incorporate into the Desires of Others

165Question: You said that there is a certain futility in conveying information when you do not know the other person’s desire. When asked how dissemination should work, you said, “You must take a person’s desire and ‘wear’ it yourself,” meaning, convey this information from your own experience, and only then will it work.

How do you do this? After all, each case is individual, and there is no such thing as a programmed response.

Answer: I never have programmed responses because every time I communicate with someone, I connect with them and become included in their desires.

First, I feel the entire system of creation, albeit at the level that I can perceive it. Just as a person feels our world, I feel the inner system of connection between everything, the place of that person, and my place within it. Based on this, contact occurs between us.

It does not matter what they tell me or even what I tell them. What matters is that this contact is always aimed at reaching maximum connection and maximum integration of this person into the common system of creation.

Suppose there is a particular individual element in front of me, and I connect him to the overall system precisely at the time I am communicating with them. This is what I do with each of my students.

Then, if they continue this themselves, they become an independent element in this system and act within it. But their connection was initiated by me from my side. And they must continue from their side. So, each time I seem to give birth to them on some level, in some world, and then they must continue to live.

Just as animals give birth to offspring and they are blind, unable to hold their heads up, crawl around their mother, so too must a human, who is even more helpless, try to survive, just like them.

Question: You described the state of the student relative to you. How can a student do the same thing relative to someone else?

Answer: People constantly do the same thing in their interactions with each other, but they don’t see it, don’t understand it, and of course, they operate at a much lower level.
