The Unity Of The Nation And The Wisdom Of Kabbalah

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the connection between the unity of the Israeli nation and the wisdom of Kabbalah?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah is the same science that allows us to fulfill the unity and the connection between us. In this unity, we begin to feel the forces that operate in creation, in nature, and in reality. We are brought to the revelation of the one force called the Creator, which means “come and see” (Bo-Re), and the revelation of Kabbalah, which includes everything in creation. It explains how we exist and what process we go through in order to go through the beginning of creation to its end in the best and shortest way. Kabbalah tells us about the goal of our life and how to reach the one force, and it gives us the means to fulfill this goal.

The main thing is to acquire knowledge. If we already know how to advance toward the goal and how to use the forces of nature, our success is guaranteed because we are in nature, which is the equivalent to the upper force, the Creator, and we learn how to use this force.

The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches us how to avoid the blows and get closer to goodness, how to perform all our duties in creation and how to attain the goal in the best and quickest way. After all, if it explains to us the whole system of creation and the forces that operate within it, there is nothing else we need.

Question: So, why, according to the system of creation, does it turn out that the whole world should unite against Israel now?

Answer: If the Israeli nation doesn’t fulfill its mission, then the entire world will undoubtedly take the side of our enemies. We see that all the world news channels show the Israeli-Arab conflict only from the perspective of the population in Gaza and never from the Israeli perspective.

They don’t even mention the fact that Israel is under missile attacks and that people are killed. This doesn’t concern them at all. They don’t hide these facts on purpose, but simply don’t feel them and don’t take them into account. They see that, at the same time, 1,500 people were killed in Gaza while, on the Israeli side, only about a hundred, and so they take the Palestinian side.

Question: You say that this is a war between good and evil and not between Israel and Hamas?

Answer: Of course! After all, it is written, “The hearts of ministers and kings are in the hands of God.” Hamas is merely a weapon in the hands of the upper force. The real war, which the prophets call Armageddon, is between good and evil. This war already is taking place in its fullest between the corporeal Israel and the spiritual Israel.

It is our internal war against our ego in which we will clarify whether we really want to ascend above it and control it, or if it will dominate us. It is a war between the forces of good and evil.

There is only one force that operates in the whole world, in all of nature, called the desire to receive. However, there is another desire among the Israeli nation other than this desire to receive, which is the desire to bestow. This makes Israel different from all the other nations due to the force of bestowal that is concealed within it.

Everything depends on whether Israel uses this force of bestowal or not. If it uses the force of receiving and the force of bestowal in a balanced matter, it attains wholeness and peace. However, if the force of receiving is greater than the force of bestowal, Israel feels this corruption according to their level.

The world aspires for a state of balance, and it is Israel’s duty to bring the positive force of bestowal to the whole world, which means to become Light unto the nations, to teach everyone the meaning of love and bestowal upon others. I hope that we finally will begin to engage in this work and understand what our mission is, and that all the disasters are sent to us only in order to bring us to unity and to set an example of unity for the whole world.

This is what the world expects of Israel. The moment the Israeli nation declares that it is starting to fulfill this mission and really wants to fulfill it, the nations of the world will immediately understand it. They suddenly will see that this is exactly what they want of us, which is an example of how to build a corrected world that is properly connected by the love of friends so that all of humanity becomes one whole.

A New Abraham

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Torah, “Leviticus,” 18:1-5: And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: I am the LORD your God. After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do; and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their statutes. Mine ordinances shall ye do, and My statutes shall ye keep, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. Ye shall therefore keep My statutes, and Mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them: I am the LORD.”

Under no circumstances should we use the egoistic desires that we took out of Babylon, Egypt, or from the land of Canaan, to which we soon must return. If we use all our desires properly by gradually correcting them and ascending to the previous level of Canaan, we will begin to turn this land into the land of Israel, which means focusing all our desires on the Creator, on bestowal.

Question: The modern corporeal world lives mainly by the laws of Egypt, Babylon, and Canaan but not according to the spiritual laws of Israel. Why is the spiritual revelation in Israel intended only for individuals and not for all of humanity?

Answer: No! Humanity does reveal the egoistic abyss we are all in as well as the inability of returning to the good times we had in the past. But the condition for this good life was that the ego was smaller. Therefore we say “the good old times” when we think nostalgically about the past.

Indeed, if we go fifty years back, we will see that people were less egoistic then. They were satisfied with much less and lived much more happily. They communicated with each other more and didn’t sit behind their computer screens or have the problems or the poisonous vapor of rot that are typical of our times. Everything was much simpler.

But there is no going back to those times and there is no need to do so! We have to advance. The main thing is to learn to attain the reason for the problems that we feel and to understand that they stem from a person’s ego and not from any other source. Therefore, we have to recognize that the ego is evil.

Comment: But the world has turned around when it came out of Babylon and Egypt and went back there, as today we are living by the same laws.

Answer: The world didn’t go anywhere. Humanity dispersed from Babylon all over the world and created the same Babylon everywhere. Today we are back to the small Babylon but on a global scale. Once again we are facing the huge egoistic Tower of Babel that pressures, kills, and destroys us, and we don’t know what to do.

It is now that a new Abraham should appear and call everyone to him: “Everyone who doesn’t agree with the new state, come to me! Let’s leave this state. We are not going anywhere, but we are going to ascend morally and spiritually above this terrible hateful state and start building a totally new land with a new heaven above.”

I hope that such person will appear. We have to prepare the ground for him as much as we can. We are in a very interesting historical point in which it is as if we are tangled and trapped. In this state, we have to fertilize the soil for the next generation. I see this as my mission and without that, there is no point in living.

Question: Indeed, in every egoistic leap in history there was always a leader who emerged and led the nations. Does he also have to appear now?

Answer: I think so. I hope that my students will be able to reveal themselves together as one leader. I don’t think that it will be one person. It may be in some way, but on the whole, it has to be something bigger and collective. I see the new leader as a group of people, and I think it will be the group of my students.

The situation is changing and the world is changing, including its attitude towards itself and to how to live. We see to what extent everything today is the result of advertising. Everyone understands that this world is based on a lie and that it is impossible to find the truth in it. No one is right and no one is to blame, since our nature simply manipulates us in such a way that we drown in this “vanity fair.”

When we finally acknowledge that under the pressure of external circumstances, which we actually summon, the Upper Light will reveal in us real internal, egoistic problems from which we will see that there is no way out. Then we will start to run around and will not be able to find ourselves in any way, as it says: “in the evening you will wait for the morning to come and in the morning you will wait for the evening to come.” But this will probably come after us, and now we have to work on it.

The Majority Of Us Are Hidden Racists

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Psychological Science): “The social world is stratified. Social hierarchies are known but often disavowed as anachronisms or unjust. Nonetheless, hierarchies may persist in social memory. In three studies (total N > 200,000), we found evidence of social hierarchies in implicit evaluation by race, religion, and age. Participants implicitly evaluated their own racial group most positively and the remaining racial groups in accordance with the following hierarchy: Whites > Asians > Blacks > Hispanics. Similarly, participants implicitly evaluated their own religion most positively and the remaining religions in accordance with the following hierarchy: Christianity > Judaism > Hinduism or Buddhism > Islam. In a final study, participants of all ages implicitly evaluated age groups following this rule: children > young adults > middle-age adults > older adults. These results suggest that the rules of social evaluation are pervasively embedded in culture and mind.”

My Comment: Only  correction by the Upper Light (Ohr Makif) through the method of Kabbalah will elevate us above all subjective assessments and make us independent, free, and ready for equality and unity.

The Benefits And Dangers Of Scientific Achievement

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is so bad about science if searching for the secret of life is a natural inclination that evolves in a person naturally?

Answer: We have an inclination to discover the secret of life because our higher source illuminates us. The question is only where, how, and by what means do I search for it? In regular science I search for it through my beastly mind and senses.

Do I mean to find the higher source by physical means? Don’t I understand that He is so high, influential, and detached from the desire to receive, from its loathsome lowness, from its limitations?

The desire to receive, the ego, that wants to receive for itself all the time, cannot be complete because it always feels a deficiency. So it cannot be adapted to the higher source. The more that it wants for itself and discovers its limitations, the lower it falls.

For this reason the ancient people thought that the sun was divine, since for them it was the origin of life.

Question: How did Abraham search for the secret of life?

Answer: Abraham went to look at the stars, the moon, and the sun, searching for the force that could be said to be universal and supreme. But this was an inner search.

Question: Didn’t he search for this with his physical mind and senses, as in every science?

Answer: Abraham didn’t rely on his mind. He was searching for something higher, detached from it, and universal. He attained everything, thanks to his soul, like the first Adam (man). So essentially he succeeded in attaining everything without a teacher.

With us that cannot be because nobody in our generation is able to discover the Creator by himself. There are many people who are sure that they feel the higher power, but in fact, none of them are even close. That is how our generation is, and this is a result of the growth of egoism that causes the decline of the generations.

Our ancestors were in a unique situation called the “merit of the forefathers” because their Shevirah (shattering) was from above in their source and was derived from the system itself. But after our fall, we corrected our own partition, and we have no merit. The ancestral merit existed only until the discovery of the evil inclination, which was called Pharaoh.

After Jacob died in Egypt, no ancestral merit remained. Indeed, we could use it, but only through adhesion to the same level, and actually not by ourselves.

Question: Wasn’t Abraham a scientist like every Kabbalist? So why is science harmful?

Answer: Science is like snake venom that can be used as a poison or a remedy depending on how it is used. It is necessary to use it to discover the higher power, where we understand that our ego is lower, and that it is impossible to attain anything of the truth with it. We are limited by our physical senses and the egoistic desire that stands behind these Kelim (desires).

We cannot depart from this desire that obligates us to think, see,  understand, and feel only what is for its own good or what can harm it. This means that all perception is directed only towards the desire to receive and we don’t see anything more. Around us there could be whole worlds and forces, but we don’t have the senses to perceive them.

If this is how we are organized, we have no means for searching within us and not with the science which we developed. In this way we will never reach the truth, divinity, or universality.

So in science, there is only what the person discovers in his egoistic Kelim, and so science is also egoistic. That is the way we discovered it and that is how we use it. We cannot use it with any other intent or inclination because all of its development is derived for our egoistic benefit.

Abraham and Nimrod: A Debate That ContinuesToday

Dr. Michael LaitmanComment: Let’s talk about the distant, but in fact very close history, the history of Babylon and the story of Abraham. This was 3,800 years ago.

Answer: Essentially for me, there is another perception of history. For me it is alive even now, including Greece and Rome. Everything is alive today, for without this, it is impossible. Everything exists together with us, simultaneously.

And so, around 3,800 years ago the ancient civilization of Babylon existed, which was similar to our civilization. The entire process began from that and gave a push to the development of modern civilization.

A very interesting breakdown happened in those times. It is possible to say that it was an internal revolution in humanity that was concentrated entirely in one area. Until then it was a type of commune, a family that was not particularly connected, but also not quarrelsome. And suddenly everything changed.

The fact is that a person has an ego. This makes us different from animals. As long as the ego is obedient to a person, we quietly arranged our lives and designed a kind of patriarchal order. But when this ego suddenly broke out and began to go crazy within us, we became detached from the animal world and became true humans. This created a basis for today’s breach, which is the level of the ego that dominates the world today.

The civilizations prior to Babylon were much more primitive and not egoistic. Of course, also among them there was a hierarchy, rulers, and wars, but there was no concept like, “the ego that pushes us forward.” In other words, humans were not conscious that the ego was managing them, separating them, and bringing them to mutual hatred, the demand for an “ascent to the heavens,” and the aspiration to manage and trample everyone. That clear perception of an egoistic world did not exist then.

And then another figure appeared who established the Jewish people, Abraham. It is noteworthy that Abraham came from a much respected family. In those times, one of the central pillars of society was the continuity of the generations because everything was handed down, including, until recently, the transfer of various crafts and skills.

Terah, the father of Abraham, was a distinguished spiritual leader of the people. He was so revered that they created statues of idols in his family. It is possible to understand this as simply as it sounds: They made statues of idols and related accessories. But it is possible to say that they “created” ideas and concepts; meaning that they spoke about divinity and explained it to their people according to their understanding.

So I would say more than this, they were the founders of the spirit of Babylon. It wasn’t Nimrod, but specifically the family of Abraham. This was a clear separation of power: On the one hand, there was the power of the state, “police,” the military, which was represented by Nimrod, and on the other hand, spiritual power, represented by Terah and Abraham who came after him. Each of them had a strong personality.

And suddenly at a particular moment, from a particular point in his investigation, Abraham observed with what rapidity his own and others’ cruel egos were developing. While searching for the general global force that manages everything, Abraham discovered the integral system that manages creation. His essential question was that among all things in the world, there must be something in common that basically provides for the principle of unity and leads the world towards a particular goal. After all, we see how everything turns, and even if it rolls backward, at the same time it continues to advance, like the rim of a wheel.

And so from facts and research, Abraham succeeded, through willpower, in penetrating this system by way of the filter, the screen (Masach). The filter is very simple; it is found between us. It is clear that entry into the world to come, the next dimension, is found in a place where it is possible to find a tangible bridge between people, where confrontation between them disappears and clear accommodation is created, meaning such a connection within which they dissolve one into the other. At this moment they discover gateways between them, entries into the next dimension; and you enter into it.

There is nothing new here. In our world there are three components: still, vegetative, and animate. Regarding the person, if he is prepared to nullify his ego with regard to others, to rise above the ego and nullify it together with another person, then he acquires a new characteristic which becomes an entry into the next dimension.

Question: How did Abraham succeed in discovering, from his investigation, that the main thing is found between us?

Answer: He saw that the entire system of creation is integral and good and that all of its parts support each other. It is mutually connected and united.

And here a single, ugly and damaging “nuance” was created, which was the person with his narcissism. He is, in fact, a beast, but he has an ego. And this ego pushes him towards a development that is not at all right, since it is against others, opposed to everyone, and in opposition to the still, vegetative, and animate. This means that he is not in harmony with them, in homeostasis. Instead he goes out of his boundaries, tearing everything up and dominating everything.

What for? It’s not important. What is the goal? There is no goal. It is only to satisfy the ego that is burning inside.

Abraham understood the global system of nature and the intent of the person that is absolutely opposed to it. So it became clear that the problem is within the person, that it is necessary to bring him to harmony, to be similar to nature. How is this done? He needs to be directed towards the right relationships with the still, vegetative, and animate nature, and most importantly with humans, within society.

So by looking at nature, Abraham saw an ideal; and by looking at the person, he saw its opposite. So the task was to integrate these two systems, and he understood that the whole problem is in realizing the principle, “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The civilization of Babylon encountered the process of globalization, as in our world today, and it closed in upon itself. After all, this was a small civilization, around three million people who were living in a limited space between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia.

Incidentally, they were seriously developed. From there came astrology and esotericism, and was born what is today called the new age, the new era, as there were stores, flushing toilets, and water supply systems. Many of the inhabitants of the modern world could be envious of the Babylonians. Everything was very organized, nice, and neat among them. We simply cannot imagine how they lived.

But suddenly everything exploded from within. Within 20-30 years, egoism broke out before the eyes of Abraham, and the Babylonians began to hate one another. This became a type of miniature globalization in which the inhabitants of Babylon, who were tightly linked, could no longer live together. By and large, the same thing is also happening today. We must live together, and on the other hand, this is impossible.

And so the ego that erupted compelled the Babylonians to build a tower to the heavens. This was a natural, instinctive, direct expression of the ego, and the continuation of its activity.

A new religion was created: “We must worship our ego, rise above the heavens, we must open everything up, reach the general welfare, and perhaps even equality and brotherhood. All of this is in our power to do,” This is very similar to the calls of the modern era: communism, Nazism, liberalism, and consumerism, whatever. They were all represented there together.

Since the process was so rapid, strong unrest brewed within the society. Large factions were created: for Nimrod, against Nimrod, etc. But Nimrod was a very serious leader, and Terah, Abraham’s father, served him, so to speak, as his right hand, as the spiritual leader of the people.

And Abraham, as a son and student, had to go follow the same path. In the history of humanity, continuity had always been desirable, especially in those times.

But here something interesting happened. From his investigation, Abraham discovered a completely different picture and it became clear that the ego was given to us not to manage us, but so that we would manage it, and with its help, rise above it and truly ascend to the heavens. This is not to those heavens to which the Tower of Babel would raise us, rather to the heavens above which we rise, against it, against our ego that continues to grow. In other words, this was a completely different system!

Question: So Nimrod, who understood that the ego separated people, proposed separation, spreading out over the face of the globe, and Abraham’s intention was the opposite, connection and work on this ego?

Answer: There were a number of streams here. The first stream was similar to the modern inclinations: “In spite of the ego we will fight against our nature. With the help of science, culture, and education, we will flatten it. It won’t be possible for the ‘dog’ that sits inside each one of us to break out.”

Another stream proclaimed the opposite: “Tear everyone else to pieces and dominate. That is how we advance. All of life is a struggle, egoistic, and competitive, and the strong survive, like in nature.” At any rate, it appears to us that this is what is happening in nature.

Question: This was the intention of Nimrod?

Answer: No. Nimrod thought that the true development of civilization could be attained through balance. But this was not balance with nature, but with the ego. “We are neighbors and don’t get along with each other as neighbors. Someone throws garbage in the wrong place, slams the door, and makes noise that disturbs those who are sleeping, and so on. So we will separate and meet from time to time, and suddenly everything will work out between us. We can sit together, drink beer, and remember our old common home where we took turns for the shower and the toilet.”

And so Nimrod thought that we had to separate. If we separated and everyone was given a small apartment, we would solve this problem. Just get away from each other and everything will be okay.

This decision is directed towards realization and management of the process. That means, in principle, to remain in control, and in this manner, to solve the problem of the large ego and social conflicts.

Nimrod understood that the ego is bad, but together with this, he only needed to be concerned that the people remain as a people and that everyone would live well and correctly together. “So we will build a tower that will symbolize both the connection between us and the separation, the dispersion.”

This was not some kind of foolish idea, this was a philosophy: “I don’t recognize any god. Globalization and integration are derived from nature, and we will flow with it without giving up the ego. Yes, we can develop this civilization calmly and well, along with our growing ego.”

Essentially, this is what capitalism today also proclaims: Each in his house, in his corner, in his particular area. This is mine; that is yours. Each one has his own inheritance. And a common government, a national structure also exists, and so on.

This means that Nimrod is every modern government and modern perception in general. It is possible to say, that in part, what Nimrod thought has been realized: People scattered all over the globe and began, as it is called, to speak in different languages, and continued to live according to the laws of the ego.

Nimrod’s position is very understandable and rational. He logically solved the problem that had been created. And Abraham went out with an absolutely different revolutionary thought that was derived from attaining the inner characteristic of nature.

Today we have again come across the same problem, but there is nowhere to disperse. The ego has grown and we are so stuck, linked, to each other, and it is impossible to separate. If there were several additional nearby planets and a “bridge” to reach them, we would make the same attempt again. But we have a single planet Earth and now we have no choice but to solve the problem through the way of Abraham.

Today, the forces of separation and disengagement are growing. Moreover, families divorce, many children separate from their parents, etc. Each one is searching for some corner of his own to be detached from everyone there.

And what is interesting is that there are so many places in the world! In my flights above our planet I see clearly that humanity occupies only a few percentages of the entire area of the planet. But people cannot go far away from each other. They simply cannot. This means that we have reached a situation where the idea is no longer about an area for settlement, nor physical distance. Today we are linked much more tightly.

So Abraham began to advocate his theory. Clearly, it seemed illogical and unnatural. In fact, it was impossible to prove it.

But there is a higher logic in it. After all, Nimrod, in principle, did not offer an absolute and final solution to the problem. He said: “We, with the ego that is growing in us naturally, must only disperse a bit.”

And Abraham said, “This won’t help us because the ego is growing with an absolutely different goal in order that we will rise above it! We will not disperse in all directions; rather, we will rise above the ego and use it specifically to connect with one another, so that the ego will be used by us as an ‘opposing helpmate,’ meaning that it will oblige us to rise above it.”

It is difficult to understand this and to agree with it. But if you do this, in fact, you will be linked to all of global nature. This is a clear and logical conclusion: You become an integral part of nature because you are linked with all of humanity and become like the nature of the still, the vegetative, and the animate. Only unlike that, you have reached this general integral state through your own power.

So you begin to feel the general nature, its general law, and the general power that is called the Creator. And you go out to the next level of development above the ego. Now you feel the world, not by way of your physical eyes, not by way of the animalistic, corporeal senses, but you begin to feel it by means of a completely new logic, by means of new desires, which are not beastly, not with an egoistic face, but from a truly human level.

In conclusion, all modern civilizations emerged from ancient Babylon. Babylon is the basis for all of our civilizations, and furthermore, for all of our spiritual development.

Rise Above The Oppositions

Dr. Michael LaitmanAll of the confrontations, conflicts, and wars in the world are initiated from above so that we will require the Light of the Creator, so that we will understand that we cannot do anything by ourselves. We must simply lift up our hands and scream. What is happening in the world is unbelievable. Suddenly everywhere in the world intense hatred has flared up that is derived from all kinds of sources and for various reasons.

Moreover, this is a kind of confrontation and conflict that we couldn’t even conceive of before, nor could we even suppose that it was possible. It is awful to look at such a vast country like the Ukraine, which is being torn apart.

I don’t think that it is necessary to blame America or the European Union. The Creator has arranged all of this for us. There is one reason; we must rise above our oppositions. We must rise above them so much that they stop. This is very serious work.

The Creator is playing with us from above and we must focus entirely on connection and unity. Our worldly ways will not result in anything.

Old Baggage Is An Obstruction To A New Life

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The people of Israel lack unity, a common goal. What is the reason for this detachment? Perhaps we are too carried away with the Western way of life, where everyone has his own ideology and goals?

Answer: We have come out of exile and carry all of its features within ourselves. But this does not mean that we should remain like this. Why did we come back to this land to live as the people of Israel in the land of Israel?

A few decades ago, I belonged to one nation, you to another, and he to a third. We lived in different cultures and in different geographical locations. And then we came to Israel, but nothing has changed. This is a gathering of exiles, every one of whom comes with his own baggage, protecting what is inside. Or will we want to open this baggage and ourselves from within to unite and become one nation?

The force of unity is the main force of nature, by which we live. But the force of separation confronts it. These two forces must be in equilibrium. This happens everywhere and always: pluses and minuses, hot and cold, tension and relaxation.

The two opposites seem to always be fighting with each other, but in fact they become connected. Life is the combination of these two opposing forces.

But the human being has only one negative force, egoism, and he has no force of connection. Even if we become united, it is also due to the egoistic force. I just want to use someone for my own benefit and that is why I do something good for him, in order to get closer to him.

We have nothing except the negative egoistic force. But it is said that I have created the evil inclination, and I have created the means of correcting it, the Light that Reforms. There is a force opposing our evil inclination, which is the Light, a special internal force of nature, which is revealed to us when we are united.

If we come together to seek this force, connecting with each other, we will find it. It will allow us to rise above our egoism and subdue it. That is, this power of unity should be revealed more than our egoism.

By making an effort to connect with each other, we increasingly reveal the inner force of unity. As a result, this force of unity becomes stronger than the force of separation and begins to dominate. Thus, we become bearers of two forces: the force of separation which acts internally and the unifying force which acts externally.

Human society will live a special new life because we have two forces, not just one. Through the wisdom of Kabbalah, we will achieve a special connection and gain the true force of unity. This force will not be egoistic, as in a gang of terrorists, but will raise us above our ego. The force of connection and the force of separation will exist simultaneously and balance each other out and raise us to a new degree, to a new life.

The Perfect Society Of Abraham, Part 3

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does the work on the principle love thy neighbor as thyself come down to?

Answer: There are many steps and many stages on the way to this state. This is the whole system of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

At first a person simply yearns for a connection with others. There are different special exercises like sitting together, having meals together, discussions, consultations, and talks about getting closer, which for the time being can just be theoretical. For the time being there is little practical work here, since on the first levels, people still barely feel the movements, the attraction, and the need for connection and unity with others.

Comment: This means that they should at least sit next to one another for a start.

Answer: Yes, this is how the connection begins, from external to internal.

Later they study different sources that speak about that, about how the world is in a state of absolute connection and that all the elements of the still, vegetative, and animate levels are mutually connected, mutually complement each other, and to what extent the system that manages our world is totally integral, and that above it, there is the whole system of creation.

We should just live in this system as we do now. Forces and the realization that are opposite this system are intentionally awakened in us so that by this oppositeness, from the dark, we will discover the Light.

Now we are small passive elements managed from Above and we are also part of this immense analog, global integral system, totally connected and simply perfect. But we don’t feel it. We were given such options, such conditions, on purpose, so that we will feel wholeness only if we can reach that by ourselves and to the extent that we agree with it and understand that we need it. This is a person’s gradual internal correction and what Abraham taught his students.

Then they began to see the states they were in compared to the states they should reach. First they simply discussed it verbally without any basis, repeating the words of their teacher like small children who repeat every word the grownups say without even understanding what it is about. Then they began to feel it, out of their yearning for one another and out of cooperation and unity that affected all of them. That is, even their mechanical actions affected their inner states and led to internal changes.

They began to change their attitude towards one another. They went through times of descents and times of ascents, all stemming from one source: each time they felt they were incompatible with any format, they had to yearn to attain it.

In order to attain that, there was a need for constant alternating descents and ascents in order to constantly raise the oppositeness by penetrating more and more deeply into perfection that can only be attained through the opposite state.

This is how they advanced. Moreover, their movement forward to greater and greater closeness symbolized the detachment from Babylon, from the inner state of total dispersion and the movement towards the land of Israel, which meant moving to the state of connection. This is what Abraham led them to.

Here I must say that the wisdom of Kabbalah is perfectly logical because it coincides with our corporeal perspective things, with the principle “matter as a reality is given to us in sensation.”

Abraham’s students advanced in a natural way and in an internal way from the state of Babylon to the state of the land of Israel, and accordingly they also advanced externally from Babylon to the land of Israel. They felt that they needed to advance.

How does a person get such feelings?

I am sitting here and I suddenly feel like going somewhere and doing something, like calling someone and talking. I have certain thoughts and desires, but where do they come from? They also come from inside, but I simply don’t know it and I can’t follow this mechanism. And so it seems that it operates randomly and coincidentally.

Now it is about desires that are not on a physiological level but on a spiritual level. When I change some spiritual attributes inside me it also affects my physical attributes.

Thus, when they began to change internally and get closer, the people who followed Abraham began to feel the need to leave Babylon and they also drew away from Babel externally.

They began to move forward and gradually move their tents, awnings, sheep, goats, camels, and donkeys and thus they advanced towards the land of Israel. It was not such a great transition from Babylon to the land of Israel, which they fulfilled internally and externally.

Question: So the land of Israel, as it were “reassured” them and they changed from nomads into farmers?

Answer: They were not farmers. Wheat was grown in Babylon, but the people who followed Abraham along the historical path for nearly a thousand years after Babylon were shepherds. Only after settling in the land of Israel, after the exodus from Egypt, did they settle down and in addition to being shepherds began to engage in agriculture as well.

Then after the exodus from Egypt, on the same principle, they felt internally that here was the place for the Temple.

The Future Of American Jews

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do you see the future of American Jewish organizations?

Answer: I suggest the article that describes how once Israel, its existence and essence, was the cause around which the American Jews united. This is what united them, gave them an incentive for the existence of their organizations, and was a source of inspiration.

As they began to associate themselves more with the surrounding society and to ignore the existence of Israel, to that extent the cause that united them disappeared, and being disconnected, they “fell” in their ideology, activities, and influence.

If they do not understand this and do not put Israel at the center of their activities, they will completely disappear as Jews in America. Israel, for its part, must actively play the role that unites all the American Jews and their organizations.

A Garden Of Eden For Nine Billion

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “One Commandment”: …(good deeds) are justified in and of themselves, since human conscience necessitates them. However, if one performs them from this perspective, he has not done a thing. In others words, these actions will not bring him closer to the Creator and to actual work Lishma.

Idealism and a good attitude won’t bring us closer to positive results because they contradict the thought of creation according to which we should unite through taking steps towards the upper. Actions that are not aimed at the upper force will trigger a huge failure.

Baal HaSulam used Russia as an example of a country where the idea of building communism had totally failed. If one’s reciprocal “good deeds” are not directed to the right goal, nothing positive will occur, so it is better without them

There are plenty of charities that help various countries and different segments of the population. They save people from famine, epidemics, and other disasters. Still, more and more people starve, get sick, and suffer from numerous disasters. Research shows that humanitarian aid to Africa never improved the general situation; on the contrary, acts of charity made it even worse.

How can it be that the world doesn’t know how to distribute the abundance? Why do our attempts to save people who have nothing to eat have a negative effect? At first glance, it looks illogical.

Maybe, we demotivate people from doing their work? However, nowadays they don’t have to work. It’s better to pay them for not being employed, since there is not enough work for everybody.

The fact that among the aging population there will be less working people and more “freeloaders” sounds frightening. But in reality, here is no need for so many workers. It would be even better if the vast majority of people stopped working right now. According to the latest statistics, if there are fewer jobs, the world would become a cleaner and better place. As to food, clothing, and shelter, there is enough for all.

In my eyes, less than ten percent (10%) of the population are able to provide for the normal, basic needs of the earth’s entire population. If we implement modern technologies, only two to three percent (2-3%) of the world population would have to be engaged in work to cover the needs of humanity. We have no clue what prospects are open to us by modern science, nor do we realize that a technological revolution is already at our doorstep. However, we are not ready for it because nobody knows how to reorganize the world.

Unemployment is a direct threat to the social order. Riots of youth in France and England vividly demonstrated that a few idle teenagers can destabilize the life of vast regions and districts. What if there were a million or several million hooligans with nothing to do?

This situation must be prevented. Before we change the system we live in, people have to be educated and taken care of. Special systems that serve more than 90% of the unemployed population have to be established. People have to be busy doing something else, otherwise what will happen to them?  People, who stay home without having anything to do, gradually go crazy. Marijuana was recently legalized particularly for them, but what’s next?

Family values are being broken in the Western world and significantly fewer people want to marry or have children. However, staying single does not solve their problems.

The population of our planet is forecast to grow to nine billion people in the next fifty years. Actually, it’s not the worst thing that can happen to us. In the last one hundred years, the population of one billion grew to seven billion regardless of the extremely devastating wars that took place in the 20th century.

Our major problem is becoming more apparent. At this time, our “good works” are not oriented to the higher goal. Without the correct intention that crowns the entire process, we won’t achieve any success.

On the contrary, had we organized the process correctly, the world could have turned into a paradise. For that, humanity doesn’t have to become zombies as it has now. People will acquire wisdom and obtain a new, enlightened spirit. They will realize what they are doing, and thus, they will be engaged in jobs of a completely different type.

People will be full of life. They will sense that they live in a vast reality, in an unlimited universe and that other worlds depend on them. They will interact with everybody around them. Together, they will change our reality. It is quite a different kind of work, isn’t it?

Gradually and methodically people have to be prepared for this transition.
