Everyone—In Their Own Time

281.01Question: You say that all people have a point in the heart, but it awakens in some and not in others. What is light and darkness for a person in whom the point in the heart has not awakened? What is the meaning of his life?

Answer: We live the same way as other people until the point in the heart awakens in us. Don’t think that everyone else’s life is wasted. They must also go through these states because certain Reshimot (informational records) without which they will not be able to attain any spiritual states and enter the spiritual world do accumulate in them.

A Life Devoid Of Real Pleasure

507.04Question: If we speak about the awareness of the evil of the egoistic nature of man, do we proceed from the postulate that our nature is evil?

Evil relates to some kind of standard. The standard is the Creator or the upper force, the property of which is bestowal. We, as a creature, are the opposite of this force, so our nature is evil in relation to it. Can you say that?

Answer: Usually, this is not how we arrive at it. In principle, we do not consider our nature to be either evil or good. We just see that throughout life, from generation to generation, people waste their time. They try to fill themselves with some small pleasures, but neither we nor our children or our grandchildren have real pleasure from life.

Life is short. Moreover, it is flawed, unhappy, and empty. Therefore, an empty, short life is not of any kind of value.

From generation to generation, it begins to be felt by us more and more not as a gift, but as a misfortune, like something pressing on us, some kind of evil fate that has imposed this existence on us. No wonder it is said that the happy are those who were not born compared to those who were born.

But all this comes from the fact that we do not see the world as we actually could arrange it. Based on that, various theories appear that tell us what to do with ourselves and with our lives.

“What Should I Live For?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What should I live for?

What is the meaning of life? It is to rise to a level where we become as one with our life’s source—while we are alive.

In the wisdom of Kabbalah, that source has various names including “the Creator,” “nature,” “upper light,” “upper force,” and others. It is essentially a force of love and bestowal that emanated everything, and in Kabbalah, we study how it created everything through a process called “the four phases of direct light,” a series of causes and effects until our creation and development here in our world.

While we are in the reality we know as “our world,” i.e., a perception and sensation of reality through senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste, our purpose is to return to where we came from, until we reach adhesion with our life’s source. Kabbalah calls the process of rising back to where we came from “climbing the ladder from below upward.”

When we reach our life’s final destination—adhesion with our life’s source, the Creator—we will experience newfound eternal harmony and perfection. Moreover, everything we currently experience, increasing amounts of problems, crises, suffering and lacks of fulfillment, are all necessary elements of a maturation process that is gradually preparing us to become willing and ready to climb the ladder back to our source.

Based on the lesson “Fundamentals of Kabbalah” with Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman on December 16, 2018. Written/edited by students of Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman.

What Is The Meaning Of Life And What Should I Live For?

198Comment: I am preoccupied by questions about the meaning of life and what I should live for.

My Response: The meaning of life is the attainment of our root. The root that we descend from is in the Creator.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, we study how the four phases of the direct light spread and develop from the top down until they create us here below in this world.

Now we have to climb this ladder back from the bottom up until we reach our source. This is our mission. Only then will we feel absolutely comfortable in an eternal state in eternal serenity.

A Person’s True Earnings

600.02Question: The perpetual pursuit of economic growth and prosperity in the world has not made humanity happier. Many scientists and historians say that in the race to achieve happiness, success, development, and peace, a person increasingly falls into depression, into a sense of the unattainability of these goals. This leads to disorders and even suicide.

What really is success for us in the modern world?

Answer: In the modern world, the success of a person is to have such an environment that would allow him to achieve the purpose of his mission. That is, I must exist in my body and live with my family in an environment that would help me reach the necessary spiritual level.

In addition to family and other necessities, I need an environment within the frame of the spiritual work which I want to perform on myself in order to realize myself spiritually for the benefit of humanity.

Comment: Very often we compare success with the opportunity to earn money.

My Response: I think this is no longer relevant. Who is raving about wealth and all that today? These desires are fueled in us by the media. That’s what they teach us because someone needs to make money on us.

Question: What is actually a person’s true earnings now?

Answer: True earning is to find the meaning of life and consistently implement it from day to day.

Question: What will this earnings get us?

Answer: The feeling of eternity and the correctness of your existence. I wish this for everyone.

Live In The Understanding Of The Meaning Of Existence

628.2Comment: If a person is present in the general system, then accordingly there should be relations between the parts of the system that are built in a certain way according to a correct algorithm.

My Response: The only correct algorithm regarding relations would be for each part of the system to exist only in order to support all the other parts and for itself, it would only get as much as it needed to function correctly in this way.

Question: How do the male and female parts of the system, literally husband and wife, relate to this?

Answer: Husband and wife should be focused on supporting each other as well as what is produced from their relationship.

Question: How can a woman support her husband as effectively as possible? In what way should this support be carried out in relation to his development, in terms of his existence in the corporeal world, and perhaps in terms of a spiritual goal?

Answer: I don’t think there is much difference between men and women or husbands and wives. They must both live according to an understanding of the meaning of their existence. What end should they come to? What is the most important thing in their lives?

They need to keep working on this. There are a lot of options here, but all of them should be aimed at achieving a common goal.

Striving To Attain The Creator

527.03When a person asks about the meaning of life, this question leads him to a search. Where did I come from? What am I for? Why do I exist? In principle, this question involuntarily directs us toward the revelation of the source of our existence, the Creator.

The Creator is not a god sitting somewhere on a cloud. It is nature that surrounds us and rules us. Unconsciously, we are constantly within His power and fulfill His desires, instructions, and laws.

The Creator, or the highest form of nature, its highest stage, is the property of goodness, bestowal, and love; an absolute property which includes all of creation. We do not yet feel it, but we are trying to reveal it.

The question regarding the meaning of life brings each of us to a search for the Creator, for the source, and for the reason for our existence. If I do not answer this question, then my whole life will become aimless, meaningless, and hateful. What should I do? Therefore, I start to look for the way to reveal the Creator.

This takes millennia; people engage in all kinds of systems of study including philosophy as well as other spiritual practices. Humanity has become lost in this because there are about 2,800 types of religions, beliefs, and teachings. None of them are based on anything; they are intended for a person to convince himself of their alleged truth and thus be able to exist.

However, there is a very interesting science called, “the science of revealing the Creator, ”that aims to reveal the Creator to a man in our world. Neither other sciences, nor religions, nor other beliefs or methods, set such a goal for themselves. This is known as the science of Kabbalah.

People who come to it are already prepared or partially prepared for this. But, they are also inside the process. As they begin to study Kabbalah, they go through many different stages that sift them as if through a sieve. Only a few really reach the revelation of the Creator. But, in our time, this, in principle, has been prepared for everyone. Therefore, everyone is invited.

Implanting A Chip And Waking Up

202.0Question: People in Sweden have begun to take great interest in Biohacking lately. Biohacking is implanting a chip the size of grain of rice under the skin upon which all of a person’s data is recorded: his credit card number, passport number, and other personal information and documents. The Scandinavians claim that it is much simpler to live this way.

Where does such a growing trend lead us?

Answer: I think that this will bring people to determine and to discern the great emptiness inside them, and they will be forced to do something about it. Chips will no longer help them, and they will have to look for a source that will fill them.

A person will face the eternal question of “Where am I? What am I living for? What is all this for? All the chips, all the computer and telephone screens, what has all this brought me to? I have everything, and in fact I can see the whole world on a small or large screen, and can communicate with everyone, but what’s next? And what is all this for? Here I am, sitting in front of a blank screen, not knowing how to connect with myself and with others.”

This is a good thing. It will lead us to look for the right and true answer to the question: “What is all this for?”

Question: Does a person who asks himself this question reach an answer?

Answer: He should reach an answer. Not immediately, he suffers along the way and searches, but this is the right way. He will look for an answer about himself! “Where am I? Where is my place in this world?” It is about an amazing search and about growing wise!

Question: Where is one’s happiness here?

Answer: Happiness is in finding an answer. A person will suddenly discover that there is such a force, such a thought, that is waiting for this question and that is ready to answer it. This is an encounter, an encounter with his spirit.

Question: Will a person understand that it is actually this spirit that has led him to this encounter?

Answer: Yes. Then a person will see and understand everything. It will be like the revelation of the world, from the beginning of its creation to the end, and all of it together! Everything will be clear.

The Desire To Understand The Meaning Of Life

198In order to realize the plan of creation, to come closer to the Creator, to reveal Him and to be together with Him in mutual consent, pleasure and connection, the creation must go through several actions.

The first is the realization that existence in simple egoism, when we receive from the Creator only something small and earthly, limits us. These are the small pleasures of food, sex, family, wealth, fame, knowledge. And that’s it.

As a result of human and social evolution, we come to a state where these fillings no longer suit us. And then there is a longing for something more, a desire to realize what we were created for.

It is when we can no longer fill ourselves and enjoy earthly egoistic pleasures that we begin to ask, “what is the meaning of my life? What do I exist for?” Many people nowadays ask these questions. That’s why depression is so common.

But, in principle, it makes us think about the real meaning of life and understand that it does not consist only in enjoying within the framework of our life. There’s more to it than that.

This desire for something more arises in us after we have passed through all the periods of development in our world and come to the end of our earthly development.

How Does The Need To Know The Meaning Of Life Arise?

232.01Question: At the moment, there is no consensus among scientists on the concept of “life.” There are only some criteria that it meets. First, life is always a well-ordered organization, a highly organized structure. Second, metabolism or the presence of energy maintains this order. Third, growth, the ability to develop, to go from state to state, to adapt and to react to some external impacts is present. Fourth is reproduction and the presence of some permanent information component. And another criterion says that the period from birth to death can be called life.

But all these criteria, which determine life as such, must have some purpose. However, a person does not feel the purpose of life. How does one get to it?

Answer: The question is whether one needs this purpose. After all, in those parameters that you listed, there is no need for any higher purpose. From “A” to “Z,” they are within the boundaries of our material life, what we focus on, what guides us, what we strive for. These are the usual egoistic problems that we face, which we try to solve in order to feel as comfortable as possible at every moment of our animal existence. This is the meaning of life of the human physical body.

Question: Why is the need to know the meaning of life hidden from a person?

Answer: Because it is not given to us explicitly. The manifestation of such a question in a person depends on the lack of a sense of the meaning of life. And he does not seek it within the framework of our world: profession, wealth, fame, knowledge, and so on. He is not interested in this, but in the higher content, which is beyond the scope of our life, outside of what he can comprehend here.

He needs something above this world. He is not interested in fame or wealth or even knowledge, nothing! He wants to get in touch with which is beyond life and death. At the same time, he is not afraid of death, he needs a connection with the upper root. After he finds out for himself that this is the stage of existence that attracts him, then, of course, there is nothing for him to do in our world.

Then he must reach connection with the upper root. There are people who look for it in religions, in science, in something else, and can’t find it.

In my eyes, only Kabbalah studies this. It gives a person such a development that he begins to feel the upper world, the meaning of his existence, even while living in this world. But to do this, he must change his nature from egoistic receiving to altruistic giving. Altruism, not in the definitions of our world, but above what we exist in today.

In principle, Kabbalah says that the whole world, all of humanity, will inevitably come to this state. But when is a matter of time.
