What Is There Beyond The Stars?

laitman_928Question: Did you ever think that you would engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah? When did you first begin thinking about that?

Answer: I think that I knew I needed to figure out know what the stars are for since I was seven or eight years old. The immense dark skies always fascinated me. As a child, I used to go outside and stare at the dark sky. I didn’t understand where I was, what I was, what all this was, and why the stars sparkled so mysteriously.

At the time, I thought that it had to do with astronomy. I was attracted to it until I realized that astronomy is just mechanical calculations, and so I lost interest in it.

I didn’t know what the wisdom of Kabbalah was at the time and didn’t imagine that I would find the solution and the meaning of life in it. But that had always been my desire. Later, when I studied the wisdom of Kabbalah, I realized that it was the Reshimo (Reminiscence) that already was expressed in me, the inner need, the desire that is not filled until the end of the creation. I knew that I would not be able to escape from it.

Question: Is the wisdom of Kabbalah meant for everyone or only for those in whom the Reshimo is revealed and who ask the question, “What is there beyond the stars?”

Answer: I believe that, thanks to our efforts (mine and my students’), we will reveal the wisdom of Kabbalah to everyone because this wisdom is actually very close to people.

We flow with the current in the boat of our lives that gradually takes us somewhere. The wisdom of Kabbalah helps us participate in this process and add our efforts to the natural development of our desire, because desire is the only matter that was created.

To the extent that a person participates in the evolution of desire, he begins to explore its causes, origins, the actual flow of life, its purpose, and how he can affect it, where the limits of his freewill are. Moreover, he attains his root, his point in this process and his ultimate state.

We can discover all that by ourselves, which means ascending above the natural, involuntary development of our huge desire, above all the matter of the universe, attaining this enormous mechanism. Only to those who feel the need and the necessity to discover and attain the goal of their existence are allowed to reveal that. But if a person has no need for it, you will not be able to force him to engage in it, and there is no need to do so. He will flow with the current naturally, according to the speed determined by the general mechanism of the universe.

You Cannot Take A Vacation From Yourself

Laitman_407_01The method of Kabbalah allows us to really achieve a harmonious, balanced state. With its help, we find contentment, not in lowering ourselves from the human to the animate level like during a vacation.

Usually, a person goes on vacation to think about nothing, to disconnect from daily news, that is, to separate himself from human society with its problems.

He doesn’t worry about food or family concerns—only about what to bring pleasure to his physical body: to sunbathe on the beach, swim in the sea, then to have dinner, after dinner a little nap, in the evening to sit in a coffee shop to talk, drink beer or wine, to dance—everything is quiet, serene. The next day is the same thing; a person lowers himself to the level of an animal.

He does not advance anywhere this way, but acts just to benefit his body with comfortable bodily sensations. Nothing but this concerns him. This is the same degree as that of a cat basking in the sun that behaves in the same way.

It is good to relax like this if a person is capable of it. But we are approaching such forms of development of the world where a person cannot be satisfied with this.

On the other hand, life will become so difficult that we will not be able to afford to go on vacation. The crisis will intensify. The times when people took time off and traveled around the globe will be over. All the hotels around the world will be empty.

The process of evolution, which is controlled by one egoistic force, will lead us to the full realization of evil. We will see that we are at the mercy of the evil force and can do nothing about it. We have all the potential to turn this world into paradise, but there is one evil ruler who does not let us live happily.

Hotels and beaches will become empty. Everything seems to be arranged for our pleasure, but we will not be able to enjoy this; we will have neither the desire nor money for this. Thus, we will become aware of the need to reveal the positive force, which will balance the evil.

All over the world there will be increasing tension, conflicts between countries, clashes, revolutions, murders, violence, and terror. The globe will shake so much as if it has gone mad. Why do we need all this, what for? No one will have an answer. The evil force will rule over us in everything.

Gradually, we will realize that we must reveal the positive force. For this, we will need the wisdom of Kabbalah that allows the Creator to be revealed by created beings in this world. We will not be able to accomplish this without it.

Meanwhile, the upper management hides the force of good from us and reveals the evil, egoistic force more. This will continue until we demand from it to reveal the good force. Then people will be drawn to Kabbalah and will feel the need for it. They will have the patience and desire to grasp this science because without it our life will become worse than death.

If we turn to the wisdom of Kabbalah, then with its help we begin to reveal the positive force of nature, which is manifested in our connection with each other. This happens very fast, like a miracle. As soon as we try to unite as a group, we will immediately reveal the power of good that is able to balance the force of evil.

We feel that a good force is added to our lives. And having two forces can bring order to our lives. It’s impossible to cancel or reduce one force at the expense of another, but it is always possible to arrange them to remain in equilibrium between these two forces and advance.

This is the practical application of the wisdom of Kabbalah that we need to learn.

The Wisdom For The Existence Of The Jewish People

laitman_232_06The system created by our father Abraham constantly developed above the growing egoism in each of his students. They were called Hebrews (Ivrim), from the word “Ever,” “over” (passage).

A Hebrew is one who crosses the border of the egoism, of hatred, mutual rejection, and enters into the highest altruistic connection with people who have risen above their egos.

This is what Abraham taught his disciples. He explained to them how to rise above the ego and use it to continue to ascend, because it is only thanks to the ever-ascending ego that we can build our state above it and thus climb step-by-step until we begin to feel the hidden altruistic forces of nature.

The egoistic force is in us, whereas we need to discover and develop the altruistic force within us. Then we begin to work in balancing them with each other. When we cultivate altruism together with the growing ego, we constantly advance, as if on two legs, and then we can explore the surrounding expanse.

Thus was born the wisdom of Kabbalah, telling the story of the world order, based on the interaction of two opposing forces. A person using these two forces becomes the third line. This is the wisdom of the Jewish people. Such techniques are found with no one else.

To be continued.

What Is The Meaning Behind Suffering

Laitman_182_02Question: What is the meaning behind suffering?

Answer: The meaning behind suffering is to give a person emptiness that he has to fill by turning the suffering into joy.

By suffering, we refer to those desires that cause us to suffer now. However, we are able to turn them into desires that are filled with happiness and purpose.

Question: What about the famine in half of Africa or the people suffering in Yemen?

Answer: It doesn’t matter what type of suffering it is. All of it can be turned into fulfillment, satiation, meaning, and greatness—even material hardships.

For that, we need to take all of our states and fill them with the Upper Light that provides for us on all the levels that our desires want: food, health, peace, and anything that we can think of. Everything comes from the Upper Light. We just must draw this Light since the various types of suffering are those voids that we need to fill with Light.

Suffering is our unfulfilled desires. Even hunger, cold, fear, and sorrow are no exception, any empty, unfulfilled desire, from the most minute to the most significant.

There is only one fulfillment for all desires and it is called the Upper Light. In essence, the science of Kabbalah does not speak about material suffering. It simply tells us about desire and its fulfillment. Any desire demands fulfillment from us.

What is interesting is that the world contains complete abundance, and the food that we throw away would be enough to feed more than the planet. However, we cannot seem to give it away, and, on the contrary, we raise prices and use various gimmicks that multiply suffering.

This is designed by nature on purpose since otherwise we would not reach a need to draw the Upper Light, the Light of universal fulfillment. This is why the world will continue to suffer more and more.

People who possess the Kabbalistic method need to bring it closer to all of humanity as quickly as possible, but first to the nation of Israel since it can realize it first and pass it to the world. This is the task with which we are faced.

We need to explain to people as soon as possible the purpose of and its solution. We don’t solve anything through conflicts but only by drawing the Upper Light.

This is why we have a method that shows humanity that we can derive a special hidden force from nature that fulfills, corrects, and advances us. We can hasten our movement toward that goal through our own aspiration, instead of under nature’s blows from behind.

Every person can derive this positive force along with everyone else. But this can be done only through practice. This method cannot be explained in words because people lack the corresponding sensations. We need to place people in circles and demonstrate to them what to do and how to do it.

Kabbalah is a practical science that is solved and realized in a group of people, either a small group or in all of humanity.

There Is Not Enough Good In Our World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the relationship between the revelation of the good force of nature and unity among people?

Answer: We are connected to each other now by bad connections, and this causes all the negative consequences in our lives. If we reveal the good force of nature by which we connect to each other in one union properly, we will come to a good life.

Our life lacks only the good force of unity. Everyone needs it: children and adults, at home and at work, to make us all equal in all the friends. This is possible only due to the force of unity—the good force that the wisdom of Kabbalah reveals.

Kabbalah is the science of reveling the good force, the Light, the force of unity—the only thing that is missed in our world. This revelation will put an end to all wars, confrontations, and conflicts between individuals, entire countries and nations, and religions.

The cause of all problems is a lack of the force of unity. This is the good force that the wisdom of Kabbalah reveals to us.

What Does Kabbalah Give To A Person?
I Don’t Want Anything But The Light!

At The End Of The Generations

Laitman_006External scientific development caused and continues to cause harm to humanity, poisoning us with medicines, producing food that is harmful to our health, and through the media. Science began to work against people. But it is unclear why there is a ban on studying the wisdom of Kabbalah?

The fact is that after the destruction of the temple, the nation of Israel went into exile in order to integrate with the rest of the nations and “to connect the souls of the gentiles to them.” And the feeling of the exile had to be real. This means that the problem wasn’t the revelation of the wisdom of Kabbalah to the nations of the world, but that it not be revealed to the nation of Israel. It was specifically towards the nation of Israel that there was concealment of the wisdom of Kabbalah.

If Kabbalah had been revealed, then Israel wouldn’t have felt itself in exile. They would have understood that the exile was essential and they had to go through it and to suffer. They wouldn’t have felt helpless. The concealment had to be so great that people forgot everything.

It’s interesting that when the King of Spain issued an order to expel the Jews, they arrived at the palace of the king with the request to leave and offered generous payment for it. But the chief inquisitor, who was a Jew himself, got involved and didn’t allow the King to accept the ransom. Then Queen Isabella, who was present, told the Jews, “Don’t you understand that the hearts of kings are in the hands of the Lord! It is not we who are deporting you, but it comes from above, from the Creator.“

She had to explain it to them because they didn’t understand. This is called “exile,” when such darkness comes that a person loses all spiritual feeling and sinks within total darkness. It is said that Baal Shem Tov would go through such huge descents that he would even not recognize letters.

We had to go through all the stages of exile and separation from spirituality, and thus the Kabbalists concealed the internal Torah and left only the external. The external corporeal tradition have been preserved and passed on from generation to generation. The descent of the generations was only in internality and gradually they reached the state that the inner Torah was almost forgotten by the people of Israel, that is, the descent reached a complete zero. Baal HaSulam writes that in our generation there are Kabbalists. Where do we see them? We are left only with the external tradition, and the attainment of the internality has disappeared. This means that we have reached the end of the generations.

Is There Meaning To Our Lives?

Laitman_003.jpgComment: In an article by Andrei Koroptov, “Meaningful Herpes,” the author shares his point of view about the meaning of life: “It is not as I thought about the meaning of life, that there is some kind of sacred intimacy, which is forbidden to mention in vain. No, it is precisely the opposite: I am absolutely sure that there is no meaning to life.”

Answer: It seems that the author of the article is trying to evade the question about the meaning of life and therefore rejects it. He apparently calls upon us simply to live in security and comfort in a “special state of a proteinaceous material” called “life,” and that’s it. The longer that this protein lives, we exist, and nothing more. This is an absolutely realistic view of our world. But the idea that I disagree with is not only the inner feeling of a person, his need for awareness and attainment of the meaning of life, but also the general concept of material existence itself. For it is precisely in these protein states that the question about the meaning of life appears.

Why is there such a question? We exist with desires that are above the beastly states, and specifically in these more sublime desires, we see our essential existence. This is so much so that a person is ready to be separated from his bestial existence if he is somehow convinced that there is nothing outside of it. So even the meaning of the beastly life is lost for him. Second, without a doubt there is meaning in nature. We cannot deny this since we are part of nature, and even though we are not aware of ourselves and nature at all, still our observations tell us that all of evolution has a strong internal logical basis that drives everything.

Today both physicists and chemists agree with this. And religion has nothing to do with it. I am talking from the point of view of pure science: We cannot deny that there is a plan of development to nature according to which we exist within a particular process. This process gradually brings us to the appearance of questions about the next state. And this is gradually revealed.

So, on one hand, it is possible to say that there is no meaning to life. But then it is necessary to point out this conclusion is based on our current state. It is impossible to say that there is absolutely no meaning in nature, it is just that now it is understood like this by us. What will happen to each one of us in another few minutes or with humanity in another few generations, we don’t know. So I would not claim without any basis that there is no meaning to life. You just need to understand it better.

Wisdom Of Kabbalah As A Tool To Comprehend The Universe

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen we begin comprehending the universe with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah, we do not go outside ourselves, nor do we “float in the void”; we conduct internal exploration by assessing relationships between us.

In the physical world, we pass distances, and take time to deal with external problems, whereas in Kabbalah, on the contrary, we go inward, inside the liaisons that exist among us.

This explains why Kabbalah is called the “inner wisdom,” while material sciences of this world are considered external. With their help, we learn things that are outside and around us, whereas Kabbalah explores the psychology of mutual communication.

With this tool, you can learn absolutely everything! If we manage to do so, disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and other sciences of this world become obvious to us in the most natural and basic form. Moreover, they turn into one general science that describes the entire universe—the overall knowledge of nature not divided into physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, etc.

Our current sensors are unable to embrace this much. When we acquire internal comprehension, we start exploring the still, vegetative, and animate nature that depends on us; thus, our understanding of nature becomes three-dimensional, because it depends on us and is determined by the way we observe the world. In fact, there is no such thing as this world; everything is inside us. The world depends on how we visualize it.

This method allows us to attain the genuine wisdom that initially sets our minds on exploring the world absolutely objectively and vividly demonstrates how subjective we are. First, we have to go to a “zero level.” The state of being independent on our properties is called “faith above reason.” It’s a condition that lets us really investigate things that are external to us.

For as long as we are linked with our egoism and fully depend on our selfish properties, we are unable to see beyond a narrow, little world that is completely distorted by our egos. This is why our earthly sciences are very limited and narrow. They can be applied to particular areas but do not cover wide scales of our existence

Thus, we constantly deal with the little matrix in which we exist. For us, it’s impossible to go beyond its borders. After all, in order to achieve it and really understand where we currently are, we must become independent and objective. But we cannot reach this state yet; for that, before anything else, we should study Kabbalah.

Hearing In A New Way

Dr. Michael LaitmanComment: When I hear you I find myself feeling that you tell everything in a new way each time…

Answer: This happens because you are constantly changing, and it isn’t only you but also me, the world, and the general state of the people. All this allows us to feel and to hear things that seemingly we have already heard but in a totally different way.

Comment: If I read a certain book and I realize that I have already read it, I can immediately stop reading it, but when it comes to Kabbalistic writings there is a constant feeling of renewal.

Answer: There are no special renovations in ordinary literature; everything is basically superficial because it doesn’t depend on a person’s internal states. The point is that the internal states change all the time and so each time we experience everything anew, on a different level.

Time To Come Out From Hiding

laitman_533_02We know how much suffering people who were involved with the dissemination of the wisdom of Kabbalah went through since the time that the method of the Ari began to be introduced in this world. And this is not because of someone’s evil will but because we exist in a broken system.

And the moment that you begin to go out with your spiritual idea that is directed towards connection between people, you immediately put yourself under fire from all directions.

Someone who was neutral and even supported you also comes out against you. After all, you are arousing anti-egoistic forces and egoism is the nature of the whole world. So we see that there aren’t any people in whom anti-Semitism isn’t hiding, after all, it comes from nature. It is possible to ignite the fire of this hatred in everyone.

Correspondingly, anyone who hears about the wisdom of Kabbalah hates it because he is in the nature of the broken desires. And if he is attracted to the wisdom of Kabbalah, it is only out of curiosity. But in fact, he hates it, and to the degree that he gets closer to it, he hates it more and more, until he abandons it.

There has to be great help from above and work in this world, so that together they will influence a person, and he will cross the potential Machsom (barrier) standing before him, leap above it, and rise to his first spiritual level.

We know how the first Hasidim suffered; they were arrested and put in prison in Russia and in the Ukraine. Against them was the Mitnagdim (the movement against Hasidism). Those religious Jews hated the Hassids who wanted to disseminate the wisdom of Kabbalah so much that they made efforts to imprison them and condemn them to death. The fire of hatred burn in the religious Jews regarding those who tried to open the wisdom of Kabbalah and spoke about connecting people and revealing the hearts that this hatred is felt to this day, even though modern Hassidism is no longer the ideology it once was, and therefore, there is not as much opposition to it.

We know how much Baal HaSulam suffered. When he published the newspaper, The Nation it was immediately shut it down. He planned to write 50 articles continuing with “Matan Torah (The Giving of the Torah),” “The Arvut (Mutual Guarantee),” and “Peace in the World.” But instead of 50 articles, he only published four as he was forced to stop because the newspaper was shut down. He said: “If so, then the generation is not ready for this, and there is nobody to write for!” How many new ideas would we have gotten if he hadn’t stopped?

Even during my life with Rabash I saw how much it was difficult to be involved with studying Kabbalah. Today there are many such groups, and if you sit in your corner and don’t go out, everything is okay, there will not be opposition. But the moment that you go out, you will get blows. Like the Jews who lived in exile in the closed ghettos, the Kabbalists lived among the Jews.

But the time has come when we must come out of hiding not for the sake of some abstract idea, but because the correction in our generation is possible only with the inclusion of masses of people. The connection between them is the only condition necessary for revelation. It follows that if I don’t connect to others, I don’t create the conditions, the means, the basis, the bearer in which the Light can be revealed.

And then all of my studying would be in vain; it would bring no added value that would allow me to realize myself and truly merit the discovery of the Light, the revelation of the Creator, raising myself to the first spiritual level. This is possible only if thousands more will connect with this. Even though the power of each is minimal, together they are strong in quantity that works together with the qualitative force that worked in previous generations.

And so we have received the opportunity to fill the desire that is burning in us. It burns a bit in each one, like a thin candle. But if we connect many candles together, a gigantic blaze is created that is prepared to illuminate with spiritual Light.
