Question: Hundreds of thousands of people have discovered the wisdom of Kabbalah. This became a revelation and great joy for them. But it turns out that it is not that simple. We need to find a teacher, not just find him, but establish a connection with him.

What does connection mean on the path with a guide, a teacher?

Answer: Today the teacher is not necessarily the one who is next to you. Once upon a time, there were places where students lived with their teachers. Now, this is not necessary since we can communicate very well through virtual connections.

Therefore, it is no longer necessary for the teacher and the student to be in direct contact with each other. But a connection with a teacher is needed in order to learn from him.

Question: How is this connection built? What is required from a student and possibly from a teacher?

Answer: The point is that there are different types of communication with the teacher. One of them is common, like at the university where you enter the classroom, sit down, attend lectures, then pass exams, and leave, practically without any contact with the teacher. You learn from your lecture notes, from what he gives you, but nothing more.

There is a clearer connection when the teacher directly influences the student, and he changes in accordance with this. Moreover, the teacher watches him, educates him individually, presenting him with rather serious requirements. But not everyone is ready to accept them.

Question: Does the willingness to accept these requirements depend on the person or on some preliminary factors?

Answer: Yes, there are preliminary factors, but they are not sufficient. In order to bring them to the state of being sufficient, the efforts of the student himself are needed.

Question: What influence do Kabbalistic books have on us?

Answer: A positive influence. First, they tell a person what one lives in, what is happening in it, why this world is spinning around us, and what influence we can have on it.

We begin to understand how we can change the world and our existence in it with the help of certain actions, how much the laws of nature are adapted for us to use them, and to what extent  people can adapt themselves to the correct application of these laws.

In general, Kabbalah is the science of the correct connection of man with nature.

Question: Does a person feel this influence on himself?

Answer: Kabbalah leads one precisely to a sensory and rational perception so that with the help of both mind and feelings a person would correctly direct the influence on changing his nature.

Is it possible to feel this through a book?

Answer: Not just to feel. The book guides him, explains how to do it. The correct application of Kabbalah should change a person’s entire destiny.

Question: If he knew that, he would probably only read these books, right?

Answer: Yes. However, here everything depends on the strength of the desire. It is not like you pick up a book, open it, and suddenly, like in Harry Potter, everything changes and lights up. No.

Yet, if a person desires, then by changing himself, he changes the influence of the surrounding world on himself.

We are in a society, surrounded by many different people. Regarding spiritual work, when a person wants to merge with the Creator, which is achieved precisely in the intention, society can be divided into three parts.

One part is the people of Israel (Isra-El), which strive directly to the Creator.

The second part are the “Egyptians,” that is, a society of people who do not care about spirituality at all. They naturally do what they feel is good for them. They may not understand what I am doing, and it does not matter to them. The main thing is that they feel good.

The third part is the “Erev rav” (mixed multitude), i.e., people who believe that one should obey the commandments without intention.

The intention is a completely different picture. A person must rise above his egoism, attract the upper light to himself, convert egoism into altruism, and to change absolutely everything within oneself and to begin to feel the Creator, the higher world.

This is huge and very difficult spiritual work. Therefore, there are people who believe that it should not be done. They once fell from the level of correct intentions for the sake of others and for the sake of the Creator into egoistic intentions for themselves.

Question: What happens with us when we read texts from The Book of Zohar?

Answer: By reading The Book of Zohar we directly or indirectly attract the upper light upon ourselves if that is what we desire. The Book of Zohar is a mechanism that is triggered by our desire while reading the book.

There are mechanisms that we start mechanically by pressing a button. There are mechanisms that are started by a voice, a glance, or a thought. And there are those that can be ignited by desire.

We evoke spiritual forces precisely by our desires if our desires are aimed at them. But at the same time, I must be in front of the corresponding mechanism.

The Book of Zohar is the system, the mechanism that is in front of me. But I activate it not with a glance, not with my finger moving along the lines, and not by reading aloud in any language, but by my desire that does not have a language, the desire to receive the light from this Book, the force that changes me, improves, and brings me to the state of connection, unity with the entire universe, with all nature.

If I have it, then to the extent of this desire, I evoke upon myself the influence of the upper force. This is how it happens.

Question: And if I do not have this desire, and I open this ancient Book thinking that some secrets will be revealed to me that I will be able to use, say, as an actor?

Answer: It does not matter, very good. In any case, you already have some connection with this Book. You understand that it has something. You don’t know what, but everyone says that there is something so interesting, mysterious, some secrets, tricks, sorcery, magic. It is enough, have a desire to get something from it.

Comment: Very often I take a Kabbalistic book, open it at random, and read the page that I opened.

My Response: This is very good because it does not matter what you read. All Kabbalistic books carry light that changes you. Therefore, it does not matter what you read. The main thing is the intention: you want to change, you want to rise, you want to induce the influence of the upper light, which exists everywhere, on yourself.

The fact that you, as it were, accidentally open the book, you thus give the choice to the Creator. The lot will be cast by Him, not by you. This is how Rabash taught me. I want to read something, see something, get some answer to my state so I open the book at random.

This is not fortune-telling. It is just a feeling that I am walking with the Creator and not with some dark forces or launching terrible, unknown mechanisms. No. I call upon myself the upper light in union with the Creator and give Him the opportunity to guide my actions.

Comment: Uncle Peter, who works as a street cleaner, lives in our building. He is a very kind, good person, whose integrity and honesty are absolute. I can leave him my home keys and go away for two or three days, and I can count on him to accompany my kid wherever he needs to go and so on.

I can say that the light is revealed through him this way, and he surely doesn’t need any special knowledge, a ten, or any other connection in order to be in the state of the light and purity.

My Response: Of course he doesn’t need any of this information if he is such a person by nature. The wisdom of Kabbalah is intended for people who have a huge, corrupt, uncorrected ego and who want to correct it themselves. They understand that they want to attain something.

Uncle Peter doesn’t want to attain anything and everything is fine with him, he has everything. He is totally satisfied, independent, and this is the reason he behaves the way he does. But a dog in the yard that is happy with what it has can also behave this way. Such people are undoubtedly kind, but they are not beneficial in the correction of humanity because they have no inclination to do so.

Only uncorrected egoists who want something and cannot find peace in their ordinary life reach the wisdom of Kabbalah. They feel bad in this world and they cannot stand it or themselves. They feel that their attributes are not corrected and therefore should be corrected. This is actually the reason that this world was given to us.

Question: There is a lot of talk about spirituality now. How does one recognize the level and correctness of the teaching? What can you recommend? There are many different options. How does one choose the best one?

Answer: I don’t know. I do not call anyone, I do not attract anyone, and I do not entice anyone. I can only tell you one thing: you must feel it yourself, not to trust, but to feel what is closer to you.

Kabbalah is a science that explains everything very logically and sensibly, it uses examples and exercises, not some mystical, meditative ones. If meditation or prayer is closer to you, then go to other places. If you are closer to science, clearer knowledge, then come to us.

Question: How can it be felt? What is this feeling and how can you find out inside yourself what is closer? How is closeness manifested?

Answer: There are people who by their nature, say: “You tell me something so that I believe in it. Give me some piece of paper, and I’ll use it to pray so that I feel good,” like a small child holding onto a pacifier or a rattle, and this gives him confidence. He doesn’t need anything else in life.

But if a person wants to comprehend, learn, understand, and, most importantly, achieve something specifically different, then he comes to us.

He senses that the truth is here. Not just like that, but through feelings and reason. Mostly by reason. He understands that this is indeed a science that seriously speaks about an attainment of the upper layers of the world, the systems that govern.

And this is exactly what is intended for our generation.

Question: Baal HaSulam writes that there is nothing more sublime than truth and nothing lower than a lie. How can we define categories “truth” and “lie” in our world? Where is the truth here? After all, everyone has their own truth.

Answer: This is exactly the problem. Therefore, we are not properly oriented to anything in our life and we replace lies with the truth and the truth with lies all the time.

Question:  Where can this measuring device be found? What and who is the benchmark?

Answer: Only the science of Kabbalah talks about that. We see how all religions, philosophies, and psychologies go wild. And so, the whole world.

Comment: Indeed. There is no generally accepted agreement that this is true.

My Response: None. You can even go through the criminal, procedural, and all sorts of other codes, from country to country, and you will see that everyone has different concepts of truth and false.

Question: But if it is natural, maybe it is correct? Who said that there should be one concept of truth?

Answer: If Indians live somewhere, Eskimos somewhere, Africans somewhere and they are not connected with each other, then it is normal. But if the globe becomes round and everyone communicates with each other and everyone needs some common ground to understand each other,  for this we practically need one law.

This is the same as physical laws. For example, the law of gravity is the same for all and nobody has problems with it. This is natural. Social laws should be the same. But because we are egoists, everyone wants to bend laws for themselves.

We cannot change the laws of nature in any way. And social laws are given to us so that we can adapt them all the time to ourselves and to the truth. That is why it is said: “Seek justice.” Seek for a long time, seek all your life, from generation to generation, and gradually you will advance. Then you will have a society that will truly move forward.

 Dear Michael Laitman,

I went through all the spiritual practices: I was a Buddhist, a Hare Krishna, I studied the Vedas, converted to Islam, I was baptized, and lived as a hermit for two years. If I tell my story, everyone would be stunned.

But for three months now, I have been sitting here watching your videos, unable to stop. Why is that? I don’t want to be disappointed again. What would you advise me to do? I feel like I have finally found what I have been looking for all my life.

Answer: Well, I congratulate you!

Comment: I understand his fear. He is afraid it will be yet another disappointment.

My Response: It all depends on him, not on Kabbalah, because this is the truth and is absolutely infinite, but on him. How much he is able to invest himself into it, in fulfilling the conditions for the revelation of the Creator and beginning to reveal Him. Then he will not have any more problems. But it can take a very long time.

Question: What is your advice for how he can stick to it so that he does not fall off the path?

Answer: He needs to seriously start studying, read everything that we have on our websites in the archive, and be in our lessons. As he reads it, he “flushes” himself with this material. It all gets absorbed, purifying him from the inside out, and so he advances.

Question: Is there a point of no return that he can reach past which he would not fall off the path?

Answer: No. “Do not believe in yourself until the day you die.”

Comment: Meaning, the Creator can play such a joke on him again that it will divert him altogether?

My Response: Yes. The Creator puts such obstacles before a person that he can only advance by faith above reason.

This is done so that he acquires a serious spiritual Kli, a vessel in which he can truly reveal the entire universe. This is an anti-egoistic, above-the-ego state. This is the creation of a new world inside a person, a spiritual world inside him.
