A Store With A Door That Never Closes

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestions: How can the groups all over the world be constantly connected to the center so that they can constantly receive their power from the center?

Answer: I don’t know what else we can do. If you feel that there is no connection, you have to try to find out how to renew it. My teacher Rabash used to say: “My store is always open,” just as the Creator’s store is, as it says “the store is open and the shopkeeper sells on credit, and the notepad is open and the hand is writing and whoever wants to borrow can come and borrow.”

The invisible hand writes everything down and then the landlord will ask you to repay your debt, but you can still enter. This means that the owner doesn’t go out and shout and call the customers. He only opens the door to his store and that’s all. Whoever wants to enter can do so.

This is an example of how we have to go out to the world. We have to be ready for the most massive sales everywhere, so that everyone will feel comfortable to enter our store. But it doesn’t mean that we have to jump on every passerby, to knock on people’s doors, to force them, or to impose on them hoping that they will buy our product.

So it is up to you whether you will be able to keep in touch with the center. Don’t wait for us do it. We are too busy and there is so much we have to do in dissemination, in processing and publishing the materials for integral education, in moving to our new home, and in preparing the international convention in February 2014.

We cannot follow everything that happens to individuals in Moscow, St. Petersburg, New York, or San Francisco in addition to what we are doing. We don’t have the powers for that and it would also be wrong if we began to operate this way. If you were ordinary people without a point in the heart, then we would have to take better care of you. But since you do yearn for spirituality and have a point in the heart, everything depends on its development.

You have to make your own efforts, using your own powers, and the connection with us depends on you. You have to exert yourself so that you will not lose contact with the center and constantly make sure that you keep it. The moment you lose this connection, the connection loses you.

In The First Spiritual Degree

Dr. Michael LaitmanNow when we are engaged in special dissemination among the general public in all the countries in the world, I’d like to make a very serious comment.

The fact is that our movement in the wide circles of society must pursue the only goal—the unity between us—so that we feel close inner cohesion, the need for each other.

If this condition is met, then going outside is positive, necessary, and effective. If going outside divides us, cools us down, pulls us apart, then we need to stop it because the most important thing for us is to create such a center of the group where we begin to feel the Creator; otherwise, there is no point in dissemination. Indeed, we can reach the masses only if we organize the spiritual vessel, the spiritual Kli, the place where the Creator is revealed.

For years we have been studying, and as a result of these studies, working between ourselves and dissemination, moreover, quite passively, focused mainly on the dissemination of our material online, we worked within ourselves. Now, we have reached a certain point of saturation and cannot move further. We cannot compress ourselves so that mutual connection is formed within ourselves in which some resemblance to the Creator is manifested, that is, rising above our egoism.

The problem arises: How can we unite? That is why we go out to the masses. After all, our main goal is unity, achieving Arvut (mutual guarantee), such adhesion in the group that will lead us to the minimal similarity to the Creator on the first spiritual level.

We are still on the ground, raising our foot, wanting to go up to the first spiritual degree, but we cannot; we need a push. In order to be pushed from behind, we go out to the wide circles of society, libraries, schools, universities, numerous educational and other institutions and disseminate in breadth. We strive to get from the masses their desires to overcome all sorts of crises that now are so rapidly developing in the world.

So, we should not forget that the most important thing is to create the center of the group in which we expect the manifestation of the Creator. This is the first rung of the ladder; His first manifestation among us, in us.

Whatever we do, in whatever form we are engaged in external dissemination using various opportunities, we always have to sort out every action and analyze it in terms of its usefulness for overall unity. Only then can we make a decision as to whether it is worthwhile to do something or not. The inner unity should determine our going out to the world: its kind, style, opportunities, and the people who will be engaged in this or that activity.

A Generation Of Mature Kids

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I expect unity if I don’t feel it and have no idea what it is?

Answer: We have to imagine the state of unity and play it, just like kids who make believe that they are grownups and grow by playing that game. You understand very little when it comes to spiritual states and so you have to play and to develop just like a baby.

We see a very interesting phenomenon in our generation: People are becoming more and more like little children. Everyone is playing games and is in no hurry to start real life. Everyone spends their life playing games, staying in their parents’ home until the age of 30 to 40, not wanting to get married and to grow up, not wanting to make a career, or to take any responsibility, but rather, they wish to pass their life comfortably free of any worries, as if playing a game.

This childish attitude towards life is typical of today’s generation. It is a very special attitude that actually indicates that they are ready to play! The serious attitude towards work is gone, and people pass the time playing games. The main thing is friends, entertainment in the evenings, football, and television.

People are becoming more childish; this is confirmed by sociological studies. And this is an accepted norm both by society and by parents, meaning by the older generation. Parents accept the fact that their 30-year-old son remains a child. Young people themselves also seem to want to remain as children.

This is because we are becoming more worthy of playing and it is by playing that we can succeed and advance in our spiritual development. In previous generations, we were busy fulfilling the ego, our big desire to receive. So we were so serious in order to be totally incorporated in it, to be assimilated in it, and to perform the most serious and difficult actions.

Now, however, it is over. This is an indication that it is in our times that we are ready and worthy of correction! It isn’t the disgrace of this generation that seems to lag behind the previous generations. On the contrary, it is an indication of despair and disappointment from the previous development and the readiness for correction, which we have to perform now. The correction is fulfilled by playing: workshops, connections, different games, activities, songs, and a little bit of work so that we can provide for ourselves. That’s it; this is what life will be like.

Overcoming The Last Resistance Of The Corporeal Ego

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf a person is kept apart from others, different fears, worries, anxieties, disappointments, and doubts immediately overcome him. He feels lost and doesn’t know what to do. It is all meant to teach him that he must work above reason, above his mind, and to immediately incorporate in the center of the group among the friends and accept their opinion. This is the only way he can be saved.

No one can face these obstacles bravely by himself, no man or woman. So, if you have any doubts, fears, or worries about the path we follow and the work and you feel an urge to escape, it is an indication of your weak connection to the group. You never will be able to overcome these fears by yourself, but only by hiding in the group and accepting the opinion of the friends, like a small child hiding behind his mother’s skirt. This is the only way one can be saved and awarded with the right to be signed in the book of life.

Everyone will still experience many doubts, fears, thoughts for and against, and shame. In that case, we simply need to incorporate in the group and borrow the friends’ mind and senses by totally annulling oneself. Take everything that they have and this surely will lead you to the goal. Don’t count on what you have since you have nothing but your ego. Change it to the general opinion of the group and you will succeed.

You only can be saved in the center of the group, which is the place that a person enters with his eyes closed, accepting the opinion of others and lives that way. There is no other way. All the resistance of our ego, the problems and the doubts, are meant to force us to be incorporated in the center of the group. So, let’s not forget this and support one another. The main thing is to let everyone know about our connection and unity. Thus, we will acquire a general common mind and will attain mutual guarantee.

When I hear about the resistance that we encounter, I am glad! Let the resistance be even stronger and crueler. Let the critics attack us like a pack of dogs that have grabbed our clothes with their teeth, but who cannot bite our flesh. This shows how strong and powerful we are, and the need for this strong resistance will be the last push that will help us make the last efforts to attain the unity we need in order to exit the slavery in Egypt.

Thanks to it, we can leap above the level on which our ego and all the critics operate. They will not be able to hold onto our yearning for bestowal since they don’t see or feel it. They only notice our ego, trying to bite it where it remains, but, if we rise above it to bestowal, all the dogs will disappear, and there will be no resistance left.

It is like a missile that is launched while making a terrible noise, explosions, a pillar of fire, and great efforts to leave the Earth’s atmosphere. Suddenly, the missile transcends the earth’s gravitational force and everything quiets down. The resistance ends and we find ourselves flying freely in space.

Checking The Purity Of Intentions

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe have to enjoy the action of bestowal because the goal of creation from the side of the Creator is to delight the created beings. And the created beings are designed to delight the Creator as the grateful guest of the host. That is why we constantly have to target pleasure, discovering how to be able to bring joy to the Creator by accepting all the treats from Him. The main thing is that this all is for His delight.

Only this should be the goal of all our actions included in the original thought. On this basis, I have to seek how I can bring the Creator pleasure. What specific tools do I have for this, not just my imagination? What can I do for Him in my state today, now? In what form and through whom: inanimate nature, plants, animals, people, and myself? How do I need to organize myself for this internally, in my thoughts and desires?

Thus I start focusing the reality that I perceive in a single beam, in one direction, trying to orient it to the service of the Creator. These thoughts are called the intention, the purity of which I have to check. What if I am deceiving myself?

I have to pass the scrutiny of all my thoughts and the intentions correctly through the group. Then, I will not be able to lie to myself and will see my true attitude to the friends, how much I avoid them or agree to unite with them. Am I ready to unite with their hearts and be concerned about the others more than about myself? Do I consider our unity as an opportunity to delight the Creator by letting Him be revealed in our points in the heart?

Thus, gradually, the whole reality is focused in the center of the group and there is nothing else to be concerned about but to bring the Creator joy through our unity. And to the extent to which we want to delight Him, we reveal the Creator in the center of our unity.

I See The Goal Through The Group’s Periscope

Dr. Michael LaitmanEvery action which doesn’t begin and end with the thought of delighting the Creator as much as possible is not a pure holy action. If you don’t do it for the Creator’s sake to begin with, then who are you doing it for? Do you just want to connect to the friends so that you will feel good? There are many such organizations. But if you don’t follow the advice of Kabbalists accurately, then it’s all for the sake of the ego.

Question: But how can I think about delighting the Creator if I don’t really understand what these words mean. It’s like Chinese to me.

Answer: If I want to solve a certain problem in mathematics, I also use different letters as unknowns, and form an equation and compare it to a certain unknown, to a certain unknown goal that I want to reach. But if I solve all the equations correctly, I eventually reach the goal, the result that I wanted to attain. That’s the way it works.

A person who wants to build a house prepares a drawing and understands what he has to do. There is no way he will build something different than what he planned. He knows that he is building a house. But in our case it’s a bit more complicated. It’s because we need to reach a goal that is around the corner and we don’t see it. So now we are given a tool by which we can aim even at an unseen goal that is around the corner.

This tool is the group, the love of the created beings, of the whole world. This world is like a lens that focuses our vision. If you can focus the whole world into one point and connect to it and feel that there is only one force operating in it, that there is none else besides Him, and that it is good and benevolent, you reach the Creator.

Two Prayers: A Private Prayer And A Group Prayer

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are two types of prayer. The first prayer (MAN) is in order to be incorporated in the AHP of the upper, which is the group that is connected in one whole. GE of the lower are incorporated in the upper when I enter the group, as if in a womb, and it operates on me and provides me all the care that I need, making me feel that there is nothing that I lack.

There are systems that take care of me inside this womb. I don’t need to think about anything except for how to be absorbed inside this womb. The 3 days of conception are the main thing.

By my desire to be incorporated in the upper, I evoke it and force it to attain greatness. I turn to the whole group and thus understand that there is no way I can succeed by myself. So I evoke the group and call it: Let’s receive the Light, the force, the corrections from the Creator, that will be revealed in us. But He will be revealed in order to establish the connection between us and to develop this connection. It’s as if we operate our incubator, and I ask for it together with all the others.

The first MAN is my private prayer by which I am incorporated in the group. The second MAN (prayer) is the general MAN, when we turn to the Creator as a group and the Creator already begins to reveal Himself. The response for the second MAN is immediate—MAD.

The Power Of The Vessel Is In Its Cracks

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can the friends support one another if they are in a state of descent?

Answer: The friends can support one another only through the Creator. We are not connected. From the moment the shattered desire to receive was revealed, we no longer have been in direct connection with each other. But the Creator enters the void between us.

Only He connects us. We will never be connected in the same way again, being adhered like drops of water that are incorporated into one drop. The Creator enters the void between us as the force of mutual bestowal and the force of receiving is also present there, the Klipa. So the intensity of the connection between us grows 620 times stronger than it was before.

After all, because both the force of the Klipa, the desire to receive, and the force of the Light have to work together so that we will connect and reach the same unity that was in Adam HaRishon (first man), when he was one soul, one vessel, without any inner cracks. Now we have to glue our pieces together. Each of them grew 620 times by its ego, but we still have to glue them together. This means that a soul, a vessel, of a totally new intensity is created.

The Circle Of Love

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the wisdom of Kabbalah, the concept of “love” is common and very important. Since the days of Abraham, who wrote The Book of Creation, love accompanied the teaching that was given as the Torah to Moses. Secretly, it accompanied the following eras of the prophets and the scriptures, was reflected in The Book of Zohar, and came the entire way. Later, the concept migrated to Hassidism from Kabbalah even before it began to be revealed to the world as science.

However, it is still unclear to us because it is completely related to bestowal or rather, to mutual inclusion, to unity. In this way, the receiving desire annuls itself, obtains the ability to feel the desire of the other, and then it can work in a new way: fulfilling the desires of the other.

To make the friend’s desire my own, I need to be cleansed, that is, to transfer part of my desire to the state of Hafetz Hesed (HH) and subject everything else to self-annulment, the first restriction (Tzimzum Aleph – TA). In this case, I really include the friend’s desire into myself and can correct him. To do this, I raise our collective desire and request such a force that will allow me to satisfy his needs.

In this situation, I am called the “first-born who takes twice.” After all, I have a double request (x2). I request the force of fulfillment, sufficient to fulfill him as well.

It is possible to imagine this scheme differently in the form of three steps. Being in the middle, I go down (1), adopt the friend’s desires (2), raise his and my desires (1 + 2) upward (3), and get a response (4), the force produces a Zivug, and I give the friend what is necessary (5).

This is the “revolution” that we are realizing today: We address a wide audience, assimilate people’s desires, raise them in the center of the group, and from there to the upper upper one, and then we get a response which we use for bestowal.

So, these actions of mutual inclusion in each other are called “love.”

How does it differ from the state of Hafetz Hesed? In this state, I do not “interfere” with the other;  let him remain the way he is. I don’t make the slightest movement toward him. Like a gentlemen, I just follow the principle, “Do not do to others what is hated by you.”

On the other hand, love means that I want to give him fulfillment. By being included into him, I want to benefit him. With all my heart, I want to bestow to him so he will feel good.

Attracted To The Center

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When we engage in dissemination to the public, we encounter situations where local needs far exceed our ability to provide. We discover hysterical pressure. How do we deal with it?

Answer: The main thing is that you have a heart-rending desire to help others. It should reach the intensity and the sharpness that will provide you with newer, higher discernments and you will begin to understand what MAN is, the request for correction, which is an inner clarification.

The precursor for this is that you want to be incorporated in the center of the group, since it is the only place where you can fulfill and raise your request. This is only if you discover the source of Light in the center of the group, the source of power of connection and unity. You can see and understand that you are already close to MAN according to your attraction to the center of the group. It is there that you discover that you can fulfill it.

Comment: My friends and I already feel that…

Answer: That’s great. They suddenly become dear to you. First you didn’t care about them and the Kabbalists’ advice seemed like dry words in the books and now you are attracted to them because of the inner need that you received from others, from the public.

The friends are now important because without them you will not be able to fulfill yourself. You will not be able to find your soul, the culmination of your work, unless you tie everything together so that the deficiencies of the public will go through you to the center of the group and to the Creator.
