Therefore, we should know that we were given love of friends to learn how to avoid blemishing the King’s honor. In other words, if he has no other desire except to give contentment to the King, he will certainly blemish the King’s honor, which is called “Passing on Kedusha [holiness/sanctity] to the external ones.” For this reason, we mustn’t underestimate the importance of the work in love of friends, for by that he will learn how to exit self-love and enter the path of love of others. And when he completes the work of love of friends, he will be able to be rewarded with love of the Creator (Rabash, “Come unto Pharaoh—2,” Article 13, 1986)

Comment: There is certain absoluteness in this article that there is no gradual revelation of the Creator. Rabash says strongly: “When he completes the work of love of friends, he will be able to be rewarded with love of the Creator.”

My Response: This happens because there are no partial decisions relative to the Creator and there is no way to do something by a few percent. Regarding the Creator, one can act only from a completely corrected Kli (desire). That is why it is said: “From love for the created beings to the love for the Creator.”

The more you love your friends or connect with them, the closer you come to the Creator. But the fact is that it may not be felt. After all, we do have degrees of closeness between us, but we have not yet revealed the Creator. In order to do this, we need a complete Kli.

Question: Should we feel all the Hisaronim (desires) of our friends and raise them to the Creator or is there one that everyone has?

Answer: We must understand that all our aspirations, although expressed in different words and seemingly not similar to each other, are still internally translated into the same language and have the same meaning.

So, it does not matter. No matter what we say, we still have one goal, one system of moving toward the goal, one reason to come to it. In general, we understand each other, we experience the same thing.

And the fact that sometimes we cannot express what we want or that we have different languages does not matter. In spirituality, it all matches and again comes to one single desire, intention, and goal. And if we merge into it, we have to make a little effort and achieve it.

At the end of the day, this is a group of people who have gathered in a certain place, under a certain leader, to be together. With superhuman courage they face up to all those who rise against them. Indeed, they are brave men with a strong spirit, and they are determined not to retreat one inch. They are first-class fighters, fighting the war against the inclination to their last drop of blood, and their only wish is to win the battle for the glory of His name. (Rabash, Letter 8)

See how Rabash writes? A small handful of people! The most important thing is that they should be in the same intention and be directed toward the same goal. If they act like this, then their efforts are enough to pierce the wall between them and the Creator, and as if touch the Creator and resume contact between Him and through themselves with all mankind.

These are people who unite and want to reach the Creator, to “prick” Him, get in touch with Him. Nothing else is needed, 10 people are enough to make contact with the Creator, and through these people a continuous connection between the Creator and humanity will begin. That’s what we have to achieve.

We can do it. We are created to do this. Let’s try even harder, even deeper, even more purposefully to move toward the Creator and achieve this. This is called “My sons have defeated Me.”

So let’s not retreat a single step and continue our efforts, to prick the Creator so that He will be obliged to respond to us, draw us to Him, and through us, get in touch with the whole world, with all mankind.

The ten is a spiritual Kli. Due to the fact that everyone at least in some way nullifies himself before others striving to achieve a common, mutual inclusion, we bring our qualities into some similarity with the Creator. The Creator completely nullifies Himself and if we unite through mutual self-nullification, in this way we build a spiritual model, a form similar to the Creator.

To the extent of this similarity, we will begin to feel how a certain glow descends upon us, that a certain force from above is present between us. And then we will feel that we are coming closer to the Creator, and He is coming closer to us.

After such exercises, we will find that our connection under such conditions brings us closer and advances us to the Creator. Like a small child who is just learning to walk and takes his first hesitant steps, so are we already on the way to Him, and we take another and another step with one foot and then with the other.

We will feel that it is the Creator who is moving our legs like a mother who carefully moves the legs of her baby so that he knows how to walk. Thus, we will begin to distinguish the actions of the Creator over us, that it is He who moves our legs: right, left, and teaches us to move forward. We will feel that the Creator is within our actions. In every action we will want to reveal Him, and we will reveal Him precisely through this work.

I will understand that I do not walk on my own and do not embrace my friends myself, but the Creator does all this for me. And I, while trying to perform the same actions, begin to reveal Him and discover that it is He who moves my arms and legs and fills all the space between us.

How easy it was to feel, support, and inspire a friend when we were physically together. And now we need to learn to feel each other through the screen. In fact, there will be no need for physical meetings; this will be the further development.

We will develop to such states that screens will not be in front of us but around us. This screen on which I now see my friends will connect with the screen showing me the world.

We still see the world around us on the screen, but we do not understand that it is a screen. All of humanity and the events happening to it are a broadcast on a screen that comes to me from above, from the Creator.

But it is possible to build an additional screen with which I will reveal a different, upper reality. And this screen depends on me, on whether I acquire the desire for bestowal.

In the same way, we will build a screen between us and with it we will no longer need today’s computer screen to see our friends.

Inside us there will be such an “Windows operating system” that will allow us to move from one window to another, from stage to stage, from world to world.

We will definitely come to this. If we do not have time in this life, then we will meet in the next cycle and continue this work.

Question: Rabbi Nachman writes that while studying The Book of Zohar, he cried a lot until he was rewarded with understanding it. What is this state of “crying”?

Answer: Crying represents the state of smallness (Katnut), when a person regrets that he cannot understand and see more in order to make an even greater effort in coming closer to the Creator.

Question: In addition, he writes: “Although they (the disciples of Rashbi) were in connection and union with each other, this connection was temporary and was called the union of the first pillar, that is, a single connection. And then Rabbi Shimon wanted to connect them with a double connection, so that this connection is strong and solid.” What are these two types of connection?

Answer: We are talking about the connection between people studying the Torah, which speaks only of uniting them into one single system, a single ten, a single soul.

The fact is that there is a connection directed only to bestowing desires, the so-called connection of smallness, a state of smallness (Katnut). And there is a connection that includes a state of greatness (Gadlut), strong egoistic desires of a person in a corrected state.

It is written in Zohar for All with Baal HaSulam’s commentaries: All those friends who do not love each other depart the world before their time. All those friends who do not love each other depart the world before their time (Zohar for All, Ki Tissa 54).   All the friends in Rashbi’s time had love of soul and love of spirit among them. Love of soul means love at the level of smallness (state of smallness). And love of spirit is love at the level of greatness (state of greatness).

This is why in his generation, the secrets of Torah were revealed. Rabbi Shimon would say, “All the friends who do not love each other cause themselves to stray from the right path,” because they have not developed themselves to the state of great love when the desires to receive also work for bestowal.

Moreover, they put a blemish in the Torah, since there is love, brotherhood, and truth in the Torah.

The Creator pushes us away with a strong hand in order for us to connect even more. And then we will feel His strong hand as a strong embrace.

If we do not push each other away, then we see that the Creator does not push us away either. And if we embrace each other, we will feel that the Creator also embraces us.

It is as if sharp thorns on us do not let us hug each other. But we understand that these thorns belong to the Creator and not to a friend. And if in an effort to embrace my friends I feel sharp thorns and rejection, then these are my thorns, my hatred and not theirs, no matter how much it seems to me that the friends are to blame.

Therefore, we embrace in spite of everything with faith above reason: first through force and then willingly. And then all thorns do not just disappear, but turn into the glue of our indissoluble connection.
