What To Do If Your Boss Is A Dictator

962.2From a Viewer: Igor writes:

Dear Michael Laitman, I am asking you for advice. My boss is a dictator. For five years now, I am trying really hard not to tell him to go to hell.

I love my job, but I hate him. He watches my every move. All his requests are not requests but orders, all conversations are only his preaching. There is nothing human or warm about him. I tolerate it only because I know I will not find such a job anywhere else. I do not know how to endure it. Dear Michael, what would you do if you were me?

My Response: I would try to change myself so as to love this person. Then everything will work out for him a thousand times better.

Question: Is it possible in such a state? As you see, the letter is really “burning” with “I just hate him.”

Answer: I think that on the contrary, it is in such a state that it is possible. After all, he may suddenly see that there is nothing terrible here, he just convinced himself about this, he sees this in such a way. He prepares himself in advance to hate his boss.

Question: Are you saying that if Igor makes an effort, a terrible, difficult, real effort to love his boss, then it will turn out that he is not a dictator at all?

Answer: Not a dictator at all. It all depends on Igor.

Question: How will the boss see this love? Will it look like adulation or like a game?

Answer: No. Igor does not have to show it at all. He should work within himself.

Question: Internally? Does it mean that he can repeat to himself: “I want to change, I want to love him, no matter what”?

Answer: Yes. I want to actually love him. Then everything will change. How else can we reach love for our neighbor? Do not think that later someday it may happen. Try to do it now, in this particular case. If there is a person I hate, this is the biggest opportunity to change myself.

Question: Is this your main advice?

Answer: Of course. There is nothing else. The Creator gives this to him specifically so that he can change himself and thus reach some spiritual degree.

Question: Can he also reach a comfortable state?

Answer: Of course!

Question: At work and everywhere else?

Answer: Undoubtedly! This will have the best consequences.

Both Medicine And Poison

938.05Question: What topic can immediately capture people at the first lesson on integrated education?

Answer: If people want to discuss something in accordance with the integrality of nature, then first they need to learn the rules of the workshop, compliance with the rules of behavior in the circle. After becoming somewhat similar to this nature, they will only gain from proper interaction with each other.

At the first workshop, they are usually given questions for discussion to reveal the nature of man. “What is the basic essence of a person?” “Why do I love someone and not someone else?” “Does it come from your inner qualities or because I am so bad and he is so good?” And so on.

Through discussion people themselves come to the conclusion that each of us is an egoist. This is a statement of the fact of our nature. Although physiologically we are all animals, there is an additional component in us, our egoism, which is evil in everything. So, this is already a diagnosis. But is there a cure for it? What do we get if we get cured?

Maybe, thanks to egoism, I’m rushing forward, ascending, rising, exploring, my eyes are burning, I want this dish, this partner, this vacation, etc. And without it, what is the taste in life? Which means, the ego has positive and negative sides, and they need to be balanced somehow.

At the same time, we do not destroy egoism in any way, but only use it correctly in order not to lose. Where it harms me, I will make an inversion in using it and rise to a better outcome. And where it helps me, why not? If, looking at you, I envy that you are so athletic, then I also start running in the morning. Or, looking at someone smart, I start learning. In these cases, egoism is our helper.

Our attitude is neither yogic nor anything similar to that, where everything is put on the suppression of the ego. We do not suppress or annul it, but only use it correctly. And then it turns out that there is a medicine inside egoism, like in a snake: both medicine and poison.

New Life 1321 – Constructive Love, Destructive Love

New Life 1321 – Constructive Love, Destructive Love
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

Love without any conditions destroys a child. The child comes to feel that the world will give him or her everything without having to do anything in return. Instead, a child should come to know that an appropriate response is expected from them: a thank you, a kiss, or an effort to help out. A child needs to be willing to take part in the family. A common mistake is to do for our children what they could be doing for themselves. We should compliment children for their efforts rather than for their natural talents or qualities. We should teach children to acknowledge what has been given to them by contributing in turn to others’ benefit.

Constructive love draws an appropriate response from the child, while destructive love doesn’t take the child’s actions into account. The goal is to educate children so that they know how to receive and how to give in a balanced manner.

Books To Replace Jail

583.05In the News (The Guardian): “‘UK judge orders rightwing extremist to read classic literature or face prison’

“A former student who downloaded almost 70,000 white supremacist documents and bomb-making instructions has avoided a prison sentence ‘by the skin of his teeth’ after being told to read classic literature by Dickens, Austen, Shakespeare and Hardy.

“Ben John, 21, from Lincoln, a former student at De Montfort University in Leicester, has to return to court every four months to be tested on his reading, Judge Timothy Spencer QC said. He also sentenced him to a suspended two years’ imprisonment plus a further two years on licence. …

“Sentencing him at Leicester crown court, the judge concluded his crime was likely to be ‘an act of teenage folly’ and an isolated incident. …

“After making John promise not to research any more rightwing material, the judge continued: ‘Have you read Dickens? Austen? Start with Pride and Prejudice and Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities. Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Think about Hardy. Think about Trollope.

“’On 4 January you will tell me what you have read and I will test you on it. I will test you and if I think you are [lying to] me you will suffer.’”

Question: How do you like such a way out of the criminal code, such a decision?

My Response: The judge can do it. Such a human approach, instead of putting a person in jail, launch him into reading.

Question: Do you think it can change a person?

Answer: He still has to read and analyze for a long time. This engages your mind, activates completely different parts of the brain. Therefore it can accomplish something, pull him out of it. He will move into a completely different understanding of history, geography, himself, and the country. He will fill himself with different values after all.

Question: And how does Kabbalistic literature work when we read it?

Answer: This is already heavy artillery. This is a very serious thing. From the first reading, depending on what he’s been given, he can be taken to a whole different place.

He will discover such things for himself! After all, where does Kabbalah begin? With discovering the structure of the world, the human being, and everything else. Here, completely different desires and their combinations begin to work. They will take him far away from a bomb.

Question: So you personally would advise a person to read gradually from easy to difficult texts?

Answer: Yes. “Here, my friend, within a month you have to work on, for example, a book about the structure of the spiritual worlds, about the five worlds between us and the world of infinity, how they affect us, and we affect them. Make a brief summary of the whole thing. And draw everything as you understand it.”

Question: And he won’t even notice how it starts working on him internally?

Answer: Naturally! I would advise it.

A Criminal Who Becomes A Professor

552.03In the News (San Francisco Examiner): San Francisco thinks it may have an answer for its rising gun violence problem: Paying people to not pull the trigger.

“The idea is to provide the small number of San Franciscans who authorities believe are most at risk of shooting someone — or being shot — with an incentive to get help and stay out of trouble. It’s a solution that proponents say already has shown promise preventing gun crimes in other parts of California. …

“Participants will be able to earn up to $200 more a month by hitting milestones in the program, such as landing a job interview, complying with probation or consistently meeting with a mentor.”

Question: Do you think this might work?

Answer: Psychologically it can work. After all, $200 means that a few times a week he can go to a bar to drink beer. To celebrate his exemplary behavior.

Question: Why, in principle, are such terms given to petty criminals?

Answer: To provide a non-committal reply. It is clear that this does not correct anything.

Question: That is, you would not convict a person, would not put him in jail?

Answer: According to the Torah, this is absolutely prohibited. According to the Torah, a person is not imprisoned.

Comment: Yes, but according to the Torah, a serious criminal is still isolated.

My Response: This is a different matter. He is alienated from society, isolated from society. But not in the form of imprisonment. There is no such thing in the Torah.

Question: But if such criminals are not imprisoned, what can be done with them? How to educate them?

Answer: Very simply. Establish schools and universities and instead of sitting in their cells, they will sit in classrooms and study. Teach them everything that they have not learned. They should write, make reports.

After the bell rings they all have a meal. Then they come back and have another lesson. There they must repeat the material, raise their hands, and answer questions.

Question: Would you send police officers to stand near the classrooms?

Answer: Police officers should be teachers.

Comment: That is, if you put this petty criminal in school for two years…

My Response: You will receive professors.

Question: And this is the best system that can ever be?

Answer: The only one. Only education. Only serious studies. Moreover, according to their interests; someone perhaps will go for music. There are a lot of people interested. Music, art, construction, activities with animals, they will want something like this.

That is, we should reveal their talents. It will be much cheaper than maintaining all these establishments.

Comment: It seems that there are a lot of talents hidden in criminals. Even more than in the rest of the people.

My Response: This is basically why they become criminals. Because they cannot realize themselves in something normal. This is how our world was created. It is necessary to find this bud in a person, to reveal this talent in him, and he will flourish.

Question: It would be nice if it could be like this! But how to do it? Where will you find such judges, educators, and police officers?

Answer: “Who are the judges?”

Children Can Not Be Made Rich Dummies

565.01In the News (CNBC): ‘James Bond’ actor Daniel Craig says his children won’t be receiving his multimillion-dollar fortune.

“Daniel Craig may command eight-figure Hollywood paychecks…but the 53-year-old actor isn’t planning on sharing much of it with his children.

“In the most recent issue of Candis Magazine, Craig detailed his philosophy on inheritance, saying he doesn’t plan to have much money left to give to his children by the time he dies.

“’Isn’t there an old adage that if you die a rich person, you’ve failed?’ Craig said in the interview, according to the Times of London. …

“Craig says that he finds it ‘distasteful’ to leave heirs massive amounts of money. …

“’My philosophy is get rid of it or give it away before you go,’ Craig said.”

Question: What do you think. about his solution? How does it feel for children to hear this? Here they are, sitting and listening and dad says: “You will not get anything from me.”

Answer: No, “nothing” does not mean “nothing.” This means that everyone will have a house, some kind of bank account, a couple of million.

Comment: There will be a launch pad.

My Response: Yes, this is the correct approach. That is, paying for university, a good wedding gift, and so on, that’s okay. But nothing more.

Question: That is, everything is not transferred to the family, everything to the estate? Just what is needed? What does this do to a young man?

Answer: It prepares him for life. He understands that he must prepare himself for the basis of life. He must work, study, and acquire a specialty, perhaps create some kind of enterprise with the money that his father will give him that will help create this. But not that he will be a rich dummy all his life.

Question: That is, if he gets all the money at once, as you say, and becomes a rich dummy, what does that do to him?

Answer: It kills a person. There is nothing worse.

Question: He will not be able to start at some pace, continue, and so on?

Answer: Only if he is squeezed.

Question: Do you think that proper parenting includes pinching too?

Answer: Absolutely! Without this, absolutely nothing sensible will come of a person. It is written in the Torah that in no case show your children that you are rich, and much less that you are preparing to leave something for them.

You promise to help them prepare themselves for a good, normal, intelligent, productive life. And that’s all.

Question: You mean you should not spoil your children?

Answer: No way!

Question: Help them a little and let them go?

Answer: Yes.

Question: So you are in favor of what Daniel Craig says?

Answer: Yes, I agree with him!

World Kindness Day

627.2Comment: World Kindness Day was celebrated on November 13th. According to a study by researchers, people who do good deeds every day feel better physically, feel their life more harmonious, have better immunity, get sick less, and live longer. Finally, responsiveness is accompanied by uplifting, the hormone serotonin is produced, which regulates our mood.

My Response: Kindness presupposes such an attitude toward another.

Comment: This was the first time this day was introduced in Japan, in Tokyo. And indeed there is such a warm attitude toward each other.

My Response: Warning, I would say.

Question: Why can’t we treat each other like that? We kind of invite you to do good deeds: this will make you feel good physically. Why don’t we invite you to do good deeds, because the other will be fine, the other will be happy, he will feel warm, wonderful? Can’t you get to that level? Or is it possible?

Answer: No, it is impossible in a natural way. In a supernatural is possible. Our nature will not allow us to treat each other kindly, you see. Give me examples of kindness to each other in the world. Only between relatives to some extent. And that’s all.

Comment: But there is friendship.

My Response: But only when a person needs it. Here’s the problem, am I kind to others because they need it or because I need it? If I need it, then it is not considered that I am doing good. I do something because I need it.

Comment: But for many people it is hidden. A person has a feeling that he is doing it for the sake of others.

My Response: Yes, I understand. We do not even give a report about this. But in fact, real kindness should be against its will. I must overcome myself and do good to others. Then it’s really kindness.

Question: That is, I don’t think for a second that it’s good for my health, for my mood?

Answer: I think that nothing will come of it, but I just want to make such a gesture of goodwill to someone else. Otherwise it is not kindness. Otherwise, something just presses on me and I want to get rid of the internal pressure.

Question: And I feel better when I do good to another. And this “I feel better” is ahead?

Answer: Of course. This is the reason.

Question: Will we ever get to this ideal definition of kindness?

Answer: No. We will never reach it with our nature. It will be necessary to rise above our nature, when we are convinced that we simply cannot exist for so long, we eat each other, fangs will suddenly begin to grow, the jaw will become larger.

Question: Will it be revealed to us that we are not doing good?

Answer: Not only. It will be revealed to us that we are only doing evil to each other precisely in those actions that before seemed good to us. And then we will have to really remake ourselves. It will be necessary to create in ourselves such an internal tool for analyzing our motives and intentions, which will show us exactly what we really want: ourselves or others, good or evil.

Question: That is, one way or another, the start will be from this negative point?

Answer: Yes.

Question: Is it possible to move positively?

Answer: This is not in our nature! What can be done? It is said about this: “Go to the Creator who created you.” And we will go to the Creator. We will go and beg that we really want against our will, against our nature, in which He created us, to be different, to be kind to others. And then He will gladly do it.

Question: That is, by the same token that He turns us around like this, turns us around now, He wants us to turn to Him?

Answer: Yes.

We Do Not Have To—We Can

962.2Question: Every morning we get up and say: “We have to get up early for work. We have to make another business call. We have to exercise. We have to write an article. We have to go to our son’s game.” And by replacing only two words in these sentences, we can change the general approach to life. You do not “have to”—”you can.”

You can get up early for work. You can make another call. You can prepare dinner for the whole family. And the perception of life, the perception of everything that happens in it, changes.

What is the advantage and what is the distinction between the two attitudes: “has to” or “can”?

Answer: It depends on one’s perception of the world. I either want absolute peace and agree, like Oblomov, to lie in bed all the time, I have everything, I do not want anything, I will wait for the day I die. So what?

Or I feel that this life is worthy of being able to fix something in it, achieve something else, become different. And then I rejoice at the opportunity before me. It depends on what kind of attitude you have to life: creative or consumeristic.

Question: Does the consumer attitude lead a person to the point of “I have to” or “I can”?

Answer: I want and that is it. I want to use everyone and everything—this is the consumer attitude to life. And the opposite is to use this life to rise to its next level.

Question: Life means that there is always an opportunity to use every state?

Answer: There is always an opportunity in life. Always look for an opportunity and seize it.

Question: Then I have a few questions and please comment on them.

The biggest obstacle is fear. Is it true?

Answer: Uncertainty and fear immobilize a person, closes and “cans” him, that is, deprive him of the opportunity to act.

Comment: The biggest mistake is to lose heart.

My Response: This is also true. “The biggest,” I don’t know. But it is a big mistake. The biggest one is to disconnect from the Creator.

Question: So you still need to be connected to Him?

Answer: And without connection to the Creator where will the forces come from? Where will the direction come from? Where will the appeal to the one who corrects and does everything come from? I am not doing all this. I simply must turn right to Him for Him to do everything.

Comment: The most dangerous person is a liar.

My Response: Yes. But I do not listen to them so I do not think they are dangerous people. If only someone really asks for help, spiritual help—to find a goal in life, strength to realize this goal—then I hear, but otherwise, no. Therefore, no one can seduce me.

Question: Who, then, is the most dangerous person?

Answer: For man, the most dangerous person is himself. Who can harm him except himself? No one.

Question: And how can he harm?

Answer: By the fact that he listens to himself, to his egoism. Trusting his beloved self.

Question: Who needs to be trusted?

Answer: The teacher or the Creator. This is, in principle, the same thing.

Comment: The most insidious feeling is envy.

My Response: This is the most wonderful feeling if a person can correctly implement it. There is nothing better than envy! There is nothing more, generally, there is nothing better than envy to move forward.

Question: Can you give an exercise on how to use envy correctly?

Answer: You must first find a goal, and then envy everything that leads to this goal.

Comment: The most beautiful act is to forgive.

My Response: The most beautiful act—it is not to forgive. The most beautiful act is to direct a person to the truth.

You do not have to forgive anything. The Creator forgives nothing! There is judgment, continuous judgment. And thanks to the fact that nothing is forgiven, we understand where we are wrong, and we can correct ourselves.

Question: And in relations between people, should a person judge himself or others?

Answer: Why should I judge someone, or myself, or others? I judge the Creator, I always go to Him, and so I check everything with Him. This is called “I judge Him.” Then there is no offense, no reason for forgiveness. Everything is checked only in relation to the goal.

Comment: The best protection is a smile.

My Response: I do not think so. It seems to me that a smile, to the contrary, can be perceived as mockery, disdain, and condescension.

It is best to show a person that you do not consider him at all, that you are directed only at your goal, and he has nothing to do with it. And therefore, you don’t treat him well or badly, but you relate to him to the extent that you can show him what is worth paying attention to in life.

Comment: The most powerful force is faith.

My Response: By faith I understand something completely different from what ordinary people understand, and therefore I believe that there is no greater error in life than faith. There is nothing more harmful in life than a person who believes.

Faith in Kabbalah is the ability to be above your egoistic principles and just give everything. The power of bestowal is the power of faith in a person. That is, it is an active force that helps a person to rise above his egoistic nature: the property of Bina over the property of Malchut. Only in this way.

Otherwise, faith is I closed my eyes and left.

Comment: The best support is hope.

My Response: No. We cannot hope. There should be hope only to the extent that I grant myself correct advancement.

In Kabbalah, the surrounding light is called hope. It has not yet entered you, but it already shines on you because you are correctly directed toward the goal. That is, hope is a very serious advancement. Measured! Everything is deterministic

Comment: The best gift is love

My Response: The best gift is love. Yes! But by love we mean absolute merging with other desires in the general fulfillment by the Creator.

Comment: A person strives all his life for love, for hope, for support.

My Response: This is from weakness, from ignorance, inability, and the fact that he is just a lazy person. The whole culture of being positive refers to weakness, laziness, and slovenliness.

Comment: Therefore, some researchers advise against the urge to strive to be happy.

My Response: No, you really need to be happy. You just need to find out what kind of state it is to be happy. What is absolute happiness? Merging with the higher force because it is absolute.

Question: And then what does the person receive?

Answer: He receives the same state the higher force is in. His benefit is that he becomes equal to the Creator. There is no state more perfect.

Question: How does this distinguish him from an ordinary person?

Answer: An ordinary person is a small egoistic animal looking all the time for a warm corner. And a person who achieves merging with the Creator does not need to look for this warm corner, he is already in it, truly in the most comfortable state.

Question: And at the same time, people are striving for the positive, striving for absolute happiness that they cannot grasp. When faced with troubles, with strong grief, illness, or tragic situations, they keep silent about them. Is this a correct attitude?

Answer: No, by no means. A person must react very vividly to any manifestations in his life of bad and good traits, qualities, forces, and phenomena in order to format himself according to the highest state. Otherwise, he will miss his whole life.

Question: And if something tragic happens in a person’s life, how can he use this state?

Answer: Measure this tragic component in his life with respect to the absolute: is it de facto tragic, or maybe they want to bring him closer to the truth with a very strong influence.

Question: And what does a person need to do?

Answer: He goes to clearly find out the purpose, the truth, the central state of the world.

Question: Accepting the negative in order to direct everything toward the goal, is this a skill that can be learned?

Answer: To do this, you need to be in school, in the study of Kabbalah. To do this, you need to be in a certain state, in a certain atmosphere, encircled, and then it will work out.

Comment: Researchers say older people learn to accept negative things more easily to push them toward goals than younger people.

My Response: Naturally, this comes from life experience. But, in principle, this has nothing to do with Kabbalah.

Will Smart Things Make Us Smarter?

273.02Question: As a consequence of the pandemic, now there is a growing crisis in the production of microprocessors, microchips that are literally in everything, from cars to phones. On one hand all things are becoming smart; on the other hand crises in their production is growing.

Therefore the production of cars, phones, etc. is being reduced. For those who produce microprocessors, the queues are scheduled for several years ahead. This means store shelves will begin to empty after some time; a global shortage of smart equipment is coming.

What is the future of smart technologies for humanity in terms of consumption?

Answer: I don’t see anything wrong with that. Of course, I’m not in favor of collecting all the books and burning them. But if we won’t be chasing microchips in every refrigerator and in every iron, I don’t think we will suffer from it.

On the contrary, we will be able to devote more time to our ordinary everyday life; we will learn to receive small joys from the world, from family, from children. I believe that all this technology is a huge failure of humanity in trying to occupy itself with such toys.

Question: It is excessive consumption. On the other hand, this technique, as if from the outside, demonstrates to a person the external connection of things. And if this does not develop, will the connection shift into some internal things?

Answer: Of course. Why wouldn’t we go back to somewhere in the last century in a village, with the right books, maybe even with the right computer, but without the Internet, without everything that clogs our brains and takes up time?

Why can’t we normally, calmly surround ourselves with smart things that will make us smarter, and not just turn us into idiots using the achievements of others who are also worthless?

I believe that the time has long come to make a reassessment of values.

Any development always comes to something. So I think this will too. The only problem is that in our time, too many people, based on purely mercantile interests, are interested in everything continuing the way it is. Therefore there is not much hope that the change will happen peacefully. But on the other hand I’m sure this will end soon.

A Remedy For Loneliness

294.4Question: Is it possible to heal loneliness?

Answer: Yes. Loneliness is actually a blessing, but we just need to make sure that loneliness doesn’t lead us to all sorts of unnecessary and undesirable consequences. Because if lonely people suffer from their loneliness, they are ready to do anything. They can become radical extremists and so on, and they can also engage in drug abuse and commit suicide.

We need to look at different kinds of loneliness. If it is intellectual loneliness, it is a blessing for a person and for humanity. If it is not intellectual but scientific, it can also be a blessing, although today’s science is conducted increasingly more in groups. But if it is psychiatric, psychological loneliness, it should be looked into and we need to help a person balance it somehow.

Everything depends on whether a person feels comfortable being lonely. When my loneliness is invaded, it is very hard for me. I can stand a person for a while and then I can’t do it anymore. I need to leave, to retire, to be by myself, to be alone.

Question: What is correct loneliness?

Answer: Correct loneliness is that which leads to one’s internal development.

I understand a person as an entity, each one spends part of his time totally on his own, inside himself, contemplating and reflecting on different matters. He spends a small part of his time with others. On the whole he “lies” when he is with others, and tries to make a certain impression and thus acts and presents a different person, not himself.

How can a person not be lonely? It is possible to make him not feel lonely if you educate him correctly. It is possible to educate a person at any age. It means that you need to show him that he can gain from the right form of loneliness.

If he understands that only by the right connection with another person can he reveal the upper world, transcend the boundaries of life and death, of his own existence, it already sounds enticing.

Question: What does the right connection with another come down to and how can it be attained?

Answer: The right connection is when one person seemingly dwells in another. This is what is referred to by “make your desire the desire of another.” By doing so, when I exit myself and dwell in another, which means that I begin to work on the desires of another and to fill them instead of filling my own desires, by using my whole physical and creative potential in order to fill another, I seemingly move to dwell in him. I seemingly begin to feel that life flows through him.

This is a totally different life; this is spiritual life. Why is it spiritual if it is a person like me? It is because I become another by trying to feel him instead of myself, which means that I exit myself. It is as if my body dies, and I with all my intellect move to dwell inside him. This is where a person can exit his own body.

Question: Can it be any other person, like a donor, in order to feel that I am alive, happy and fulfilled?

Answer: Yes. By moving to dwell in another you roam in a totally different space.

Question: And this is the remedy for loneliness?

Answer: It is not only the remedy for loneliness, but the remedy for death. It is a remedy that makes you immortal, in order to attain perfection and to ascend above yourself, above your ego.
