One should be in the form of “willows of the brook,” tasteless and scentless. And one should delight in this work, even though he feels no flavor or fragrance in this work. And then this work is called “the letters of Your unified name,” by which we are rewarded with complete unification with the Creator (Baal HaSulam, Shamati, 85, “What Is the Fruit of a Citrus Tree, in the Work?”).
Question: How can we come from work where there seems to be no taste to a high degree of “the letters of Your unified name”?
Answer: When we get a taste for the quality of bestowal, we get a taste for spiritual work.
Precisely because you have no taste initially and you force yourself to work that you may develop a taste for bestowal, for the right connection, which you will begin to feel. We need to gradually understand this and hold on to this point of connection constantly.
Question: How can a person with no taste in the work not simply endure this state but transition to the property of bestowal?
Answer: The fact is that you cannot force it. Therefore, even if you fail to feel the closeness to the Creator in the quality of bestowal, you must continue to strive for this.
Those who do not abandon this goal and always want to reach adhesion with the Creator in the quality of bestowal eventually attain this quality and begin to feel it.
One develops different Kelim of bestowal, and begins to feel his new relationship with the Creator in them.
Question: Let’s say a friend does not have the strength to participate actively in all our events. What can he hope for? Could he find strength at the next stage, or can there be some internal switch?
Answer: Imagine that you remember your childhood, how you wanted to befriend someone, but that person did not want or understand it. So what could you do? You had to invent some tricks to attract him to you. In the same way, we need to involve our friend in our studies and gradually bring him closer to mutual bestowal to the Creator.

Question: What does it mean to acquire the tastes of the Torah in the ten?
Answer: It means to correctly receive each of the four types of manifestation of the Creator in the soul.
Question: A person who has been studying Kabbalah for a long time needs some kind of nourishment from the light. But there are friends who rarely attend classes and apparently do not receive the taste that would attract them. How can this taste be conveyed to them?
Answer: There is not a way to do so; just like in our world: only the one who tastes, feels it.
You just need to try to connect together and attempt to feel this taste. Then even those who do not yet have it will begin to feel it. This will push them forward.
Question: There are moments in our work when everyone feels passion, fire in the work. And it happens that people lose this taste. How can we ensure that a person always feels the bright taste of spiritual work?
Answer: It is not easy. In order for a person not to lose his taste, you must connect and drag him into your connection in which you could convey your tastes to him.

Question: Before crossing the Machsom, it is impossible to perform a selfless act. But we get the impression that we are doing something selfless for the sake of the group. How can we reveal that this is not quite the case?
Answer: You will receive such revelation from the Creator. He will shine His light on you, the quality of bestowal, and you will feel this quality against the background of your quality of reception. In this way, you will feel the gap between you and the Creator.
Question: Still, this is an unpleasant revelation because I feel that I am acting for my own sake. How can we sweeten this state so that we have the strength to continue; not to despair, but to move forward?
Answer: You are doing this intentionally in order to reveal your difference from the Creator.

Question: How can you find joy in the work without taste or smell, and how do you do it with a quality of adornment rather than neglect?
Answer: It depends on whether you feel who you are giving your efforts to.
Question: Where do we get this joy from? Is it from uniting in the ten or thinking you are working for the Creator?
Answer: From uniting in the ten because this is how we approach the Creator.

Question: What does it mean to love the Creator? Whom should I love?
Answer: You must love everyone except yourself, because you yourself are what stands in opposition to the Creator. Therefore, to the extent that you cease loving yourself, you will rise above yourself and draw closer to the group (the ten) and to the Creator.
Question: If I need to love everyone else but not myself, how does this relate to “love your neighbor as yourself”?
Answer: The point is that just as you egoistically love yourself, you must altruistically love your neighbor.
Question: You say we should rise above our disagreements. But what if there is someone in the group whom I find unpleasant?
Answer: That is exactly where you need to rise above your dislike for them and correct your attitude. How? Ask the Creator to help you do this.

Question: I look at a friend whom I do not accept, and I see myself before me; this is an image of me. If I cannot ask for myself, whom do I ask for because it is my image in front of me?
Answer: It is opposite you. What does it mean to see another person in front of me? I see my negative qualities. If I had the corrected properties, I would not see anyone as bad. Therefore, ask for correction so that you see everyone as fully corrected.
What else can you ask for? For the Creator to correct others? This is only possible in the ten where we mutually help each other.
Here is a dilemma: to pray for the world to be better or to correct yourself not to see the world as evil. This is individual and shared work.
When you ask for your correction in order to relate to your friends in the ten correctly, you are not asking for your ego. You are asking to correct yourself, to rise, and thus correctly interact with them, become interconnected, and help them. This is not considered asking for yourself because you are asking for the ten. Therefore, there is a condition: turn to the Creator only through the ten.
We must ask constantly, as it was said: “May you ask constantly ask” i.e., constantly be praying.

Question: Baal HaSulam was in adhesion with the Creator. How can we reach such unity with the Creator in our neighbor?
Answer: That is not simple. You have to be connected with each other, and from your common connection you have to plea the Creator so He will tie you together even more strongly and will include you in Him. We cannot ask for more, and we do not even need more. As it is said: “In Him my heart will delight.”
Question: Rabash writes that Baal HaSulam made it so that an ordinary person could achieve Dvekut [adhesion] with the Creator when before only great disciples could do so.
Can we now improve our methodology so that every person could achieve adhesion with the Creator like a real sage?
Answer: If we achieve what we are supposed to achieve, then we will understand how we can help everyone. This will be the result of our spiritual work.

Question: We conceal ourselves from the Creator’s light. But the Creator is already concealed from us. He is not perceived in our vessels (Kelim) as good and benevolent. So what are we concealing ourselves from?
Answer: The fact is that we do not yet have the true vessels, i.e., desires, in which we can feel the Creator and maintain a constant connection with Him. Therefore, we must strive to find a connection between ourselves and the Creator in every state we experience.
Question: What can be considered a constant state amidst all the changing impressions?
Answer: This needs to be measured relative to the person.
Question: Will our efforts to feel the Creator’s will, to be connected with Him, and to justify everything that happens be considered a constant state?
Answer: Yes, if you reach this through your connection with the friends.
