Which Creator Should I Listen To?

202.0Comment: I decided that I only have Kabbalah in my life, and I don’t get distracted by other methods. But my “donkey” desires something different. For example, I want to go out and have a beer, I feel that urge. But I understand that if I go, I will not be able to get up for the morning lesson, and I will have a headache. I feel powerless in this situation because it feels like it is the Creator directing me this way.

My Response: Let us clarify: the Creator sends you to the lesson and the Creator sends you to have a beer. The Creator is everywhere, in both places. So which direction do you choose? Which Creator will you listen to?

Question: I understand that all of this is from the Creator, but can I pray for myself to follow the Creator who sends me to the lesson?

Answer: I do not think that is the best path because you will end up fooling yourself. It is better to use your ten to overcome the “beer” Creator. Then you will truly feel like you are in a fight, will connect more with the group, and will strengthen your connection with the Creator and the connection of the Creator with the group. In this way, you will really advance.

I believe that if a person finds themselves at a crossroads with two apparent paths, they should recognize that both are given by the Creator so they must decide which choice the Creator would prefer.

Question: Can I pray for myself and ask the Creator to help me choose the right path?

Answer: That is a weak prayer. It is much better to pray through the ten. A genuine prayer is always done with what is called a minyan, a group of ten people.

Thanks to the Question from a Sinner

628.2The wicked one’s question, he must take upon himself a new acceptance of the burden of the kingdom of heaven, called “fear,” each time anew.

The power to be able to overcome and take upon himself the burden of the kingdom of heaven is through Torah and Mitzvot [commandments], whereby observing them, a person is cleansed from his evil, for only then will he be able to accept the burden of the kingdom of heaven (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 31, “How I Love Your Teaching”).

Question: What is the acceptance of the authority of the Creator during the revelation of the question of the sinner?

Answer: When a person has questions that he needs to answer, he usually addresses these questions to the Creator and must answer them clearly.

Question: At the moment a sinner’s question arises, what will contribute to the instant disclosure of the power of overcoming earned with the help of the Torah and the commandments?

Answer: It is the realization that all the questions he has about the Creator, about the path, and everything that exists come from the Creator.

Therefore, a person should sincerely and briefly try to answer this without spinning. Then he will begin to realize who he is.

Rise Toward the Truth

938.01Before we grow up, we derive pleasure specifically from Lo Lishma (not for Her sake), regarded as “clothing of falsehood.” This is called “shadow,” “concealment,” and then there is room for work, and we derive vitality from false things. Afterwards, when we are rewarded, we receive the light of faith (Rabash, Letter 12b).

Question: There is a false clothing, a concealment that I am in most of the time, and there is a shadow of faith, a place for work. How can you not make a mistake when you are in concealment?

Answer: It is possible to avoid mistakes only in connection with friends. Then you will have different options to choose from that constantly change places and meanings. You quickly begin to understand where you are, where the truth is, and where the falsehood is, and in this way rise toward the truth.

Question: Do the sufferings of the soul lead to turning away from false pleasures toward true ones?

Answer: Yes, this happens when a person truly feels that all the earthly pleasures that people enjoy do not touch him. He wants something eternal, real.

Therefore, move forward and always choose the highest possible pleasures that you want to direct to the Creator.

Preparation Before the Lesson

235Question: What does it mean to come to the lesson with the intention to purify myself? How can I check if I truly have that intention?

Answer: Analyze what you were thinking about before the lesson.

Question: Is it possible that someone gets up for the lesson every day simply out of habit?

Answer: That is why you do not see serious results from your studies. Sit for a moment before the lesson and think about yourself, your state, and what lies ahead.

Gradually, you will see what thoughts, feelings, and requests you can bring to the Creator.

Question: But how can I check my focus on the request for purification? After all, a million different thoughts and requests can come up.

Answer: That is exactly why you should ask, in your own words.

When Spiritual Vessels are Empty

Answer: It is necessary to check whether this is really the case and then systematically work through those properties that a person does not see in oneself.

Question: Could it be that these vessels have already fulfilled their purpose and need to be transformed?

Answer: No, don’t think about converting them. They will acquire the necessary form themselves.

Help Each Other by Example

530Question: How can we improve our work in the ten? Should we pressure it?

Answer: No, you do not need to put pressure on the ten. You need to encourage your friends in some alternative ways so that they understand you, agree with you, and together you turn to the Creator.

There should be no pressure on each other at all. It can only be directed toward turning to the Creator. All other pressures are bad and unproductive since a person cannot do anything on his own.

Apart from turning to the Creator, one has no other means of action at one’s disposal. None! So, in this we must help each other, and best of all, by example.
