The Third Fundamental Concept of the Wisdom of Kabbalah

232.06The third matter is the restriction and the screen placed on this vessel of reception, which is phase four, in return for which new vessels of reception were made in the ten Sefirot, called reflected light (Baal HaSulam, “Preface to the Wisdom of Kabbalah,” Item 17).

Baal HaSulam writes that the third fundamental concept of the wisdom of Kabbalah is the restriction (Tzimtzum) and the screen (Masach).

The fact is that when the light descends from above downward, it must reduce itself at each degree in order to give the lower ones that exist at each degree the opportunity to find themselves. Therefore, the light restricts itself, i.e., it constantly decreases as it descends from above downward along the 625 degrees of the worlds.

In order for the lower ones to be able to attain the light, they must acquire the screen, which is a method of being similar to the light. At the same time, the lower ones, not wanting to receive the upper light, make a restriction on themselves because they want to use it only for bestowal, just like the Creator.

To the extent that the created beings can receive the upper light for the sake of bestowal, like a guest and a host, they understand each other, reveal themselves to each other, and exist in a mutual connection.

In other words, there is the Creator and creation. Some kind of pleasure is emanated from the Creator. But this system, called the Creator or the upper force conceals these pleasures from the lower ones, so that we, the created beings, can consciously and independently reach these states. This is what the worlds are made for.

The screen is an anti-egoistic quality or a force that allows us to fulfill the fundamental law of the universe—the equivalence of qualities. Because of the screen, we make restrictions on receiving pleasure for our own sake, and thus we coincide by our qualities with the upper system.

First Desire, Then Awareness

276.02In our world, we feel independent because we do not have a feeling of connection with the force that is shining from above and in relation to which everything is very simply built. Everyone has his own position relative to it and at every moment wants to change his state. As a result, he changes it according to the general scheme. That is, everything exists according to such a definite, clear, rigid order that there is no need to calculate anything in advance or do anything.

The calculation is only relative to the person: how well does he want to move forward in his subjective feelings or not, and nothing more. Everything is very simple.

Everything comes only from sensations. First comes the desire and then the awareness of what you feel in it. This desire may be such that you do not feel anything in it yet. Then some sensations appear.

Although the desire already has some kind of fulfillment, some kind of sensory information, you may not feel it yet, it is below the threshold of your sensitivity. Then you begin to feel it as pleasant or unpleasant, and then realize: is it pleasant or not, what are the causal consequences, and so on.

That is, awareness is born much later than sensation. Therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah talks about the way to attain, reveal, and begin to feel everything, and then, in accordance with this, you will begin to understand.

Troubles Turn into a Positive

276.03Question: It is said: “The troubles of the righteous are numerous.” What troubles are meant? Are they only those that our evil reveals or also material ones?

Answer: It is everything that we can be dissatisfied with in life. After all, what we see as negative is manifested only because of our egoism.

At first it seems like problems to a person, and then he justifies it because they help him to rise to the degree of connection with his friends and the Creator. In this case he is called righteous, from the word “justify” the Creator.

If we strive to the Creator in the desire to become like Him, then we must see only the good and the kind. In this way we will come to connection.

When together we wholeheartedly ask the Creator to correct us, then He will do it, and the troubles will end. We will see that we are absolutely happy in connection with each other and with the Creator.

Faith Is Born from the Connection

938.01Question: In order to justify everything, we lack faith. Do we get faith from the Torah or is it born as a result of our connection?

Answer: Faith is the upper light that gives us the opportunity to rise above our egoism and justify the Creator. Faith is born out of our connection.

We must come to justify the Creator completely, in everything that we have, in knowledge and in feelings, in the heart and in the mind.

Hold the Connection between Each Other

528.01Question: How do we use reception of the light from the Creator to build a stronger connection in the ten and at the same time not crush it with light?

Answer: Don’t be afraid for the light. Be afraid that you will not have a connection with the ten. And in order to keep this connection, you need to ask all the time, without stopping.

At the same time, everyone must give himself. Try to link your desires and your requests together into one whole, and then you will receive the Creator’s answer in the same desire.

New Life 85 – A Talk On Emergency Situations, Part 2

New Life 85 – A Talk On Emergency Situations, Part 2
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz Oct 17, 2012

In what way will the people of Israel be able to come to the understanding that connection is the solution to everything? How does the wisdom of Kabbalah bring people to this understanding? How will the rest of the world eventually join them?

If the people of Israel were in an existential threat from other countries that are against them, would people lose hope? The fear is that no one would have a plan for going forward. There is also concern about economic threats, that there won’t be enough food or resources.

Let’s hope that we are able to sweeten these threats. It’s enough for us to know that we have to start changing. We need to go out openly in our advocacy regarding the destiny of the nation of Israel and its role in the correction of human evil. We have reached the point where this needs to actually take place, where we actually discover the higher idea and the higher purpose of unity with the upper force.

The wisdom of Kabbalah, previously hidden, is now opening up to correct our nature. All of humanity can come from hatred toward love, know the bounty of unity, and rise above this general crisis to reach the next degree of our existence. We need to unite and wish to discover Him between us. It’s time to finally perform the exodus from Egypt toward spiritual leadership where we activate the spiritual force. If we activate the upper force, no one can oppose us. All the hearts of the rulers of the world will turn in our favor and they will join us joyfully and embrace us as the cause of good and salvation to the entire world.

The abundance that will flow between us will also flow to the nations of the world. Unity and connection, “love your neighbor as yourself,” will give us the good connection to the upper force. It needs to go from a slogan into practical expression in the world.

Abraham was the first person to discover the one force that rules all of reality, the first to discover Kabbalah, the wisdom of connection, the upper force, the reforming light, the internality of the Torah. He tried to discover how to reveal it. Externality is the customs and laws that a person keeps. Internality is wanting to correct his nature, his evil inclination. This is what Kabbalah provides. Our real purpose in life is to change our internality. The time has come for everyone to come to the internality of the Torah.

Abraham taught all of this to his students, which is how the wisdom of Kabbalah began. To understand that there is one force influences one’s experience of the world and brings spiritual laws into actualization in our lives. The force of love organizes opposing forces; it knows how to connect and unite all the different forces in balance and harmony. The world is integral, one whole, organized by the upper force. Opposite forces always complete each other; they must be connected through this upper force, the force of love. We must discover this force of love.

We see through science that everything is interconnected, that there is a “software” inside the system that connects everything above all opposition. Where is the one force that unifies everything? It’s only the force of love, not corporeal love, but the force of connection and unity that brings everything into harmony.

All over the world, we have reached desperation. The trouble will open the ears of the public to be receptive to such solutions, to see that we are currently not connected in the right way. When we begin to use the Torah to unite between us in the light that reforms, then we won’t need breakings anymore.

Are we able to absorb the solutions that are proposed?

We can tell the public about this in a series of talks and different activities, as simply as possible, perhaps not using the examples of history of Abraham and the exodus from Egypt, but rather through modern sciences and its proofs.

“Does love require constant work to keep it fresh?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Does love require constant work to keep it fresh?

There is a saying in the wisdom of Kabbalah that “our whole work is to discover love among us each and every day.”

Love is the general inclusive force of nature, and it is written that reaching the love of others as ourselves “is the greatest rule of the Torah” (see Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag, “Matan Torah [The Giving of the Torah]”).

Today, in the age of globalization, we are discovering our global interconnectedness and interdependence. The force of love is bringing us closer together from the side of nature, but we are opposite to it, in a state of hatred toward one another. In other words, nature is an altruistic force and our nature is egoistic, a desire for self-benefit at the expense of others and nature. We are thus opposite to nature, and such an opposition is the cause of our every problem.

Our main problem is a lack of love. In love, we discover a life of eternity and perfection.

So why do we have to work for love? Doesn’t everybody already want love?

Indeed, we all have a desire to feel love, but how do we realize it not in a transient and involuntary way, which is how we generally feel love in our world, but in a way where we can grow the love? We realize it by inviting the force of love that dwells abundantly in nature into our connections. About drawing the force of love into our lives, it is written that “I created the evil inclination, I created the Torah as a spice, because the light in it reforms.”

The light is the force of love that can enter our lives and correct our intentions so that we genuinely want to love others as ourselves. The more we connect to sources that explain the foundations of nature—both human nature and the general inclusive nature—how we can attract the force of love in nature into our connections, and by doing so, achieve a happy and harmonious life the world over, then the more we attract the force of light and it works on correcting us.
