Feel the Creator

294.4Rabbi Aba said, “Let us open the doors of Torah, for now is the time and the hour for our ways to be corrected” (Zohar for All, The Donkey Driver).

The characters of the article “The Donkey Driver” are walking along the road and trying to find the Creator in a conversation among themselves.

To open the doors of the Torah means the desire to receive a small illumination from above, from heaven, so that in this they would feel the upper force.

“Now is the time for our ways to be corrected” suggests that they are as if coming out of one state and moving into another. This is their way.

The correction lies in them, they should begin correcting themselves by studying, reading, and disputing.

At the same time, they correct their egoistic desires and adjust them in such a way as to feel the Creator between them.

Family Ties

527.06The article “The Donkey Driver” begins with a description of how two wise men, who are related, walk to a third wise man, and all sorts of stories happen to them along the way. This is how the articles in The Book of Zohar often begin.

As a rule, they speak allegorically about what is inside a person. At the same time, each character plays a special trait in a person. Thus, the sages seem to be walking along the road to the Creator gradually revealing Him.

In addition, they are also revealed to each other through dialogue: what will happen to them, what they will achieve, how the Creator is perceived, and so on.

The road always symbolizes the path to the Creator. And related souls are like forces inside one person.

That is, when a Kabbalist reads the sources, he sees that these are certain qualities or forces within him. And since they are harmoniously connected with each other, therefore, kinship ties are mentioned.

Experience the “Taste” of the Light

566.01Question: Why is it that in spirituality the pleasure from the light is felt in the Peh, n the mouth, and not in the stomach?

Answer: Because the most important thing for us is to be able to stop the passage of light, to feel, determine, and evaluate it before receiving it.

Only after we have decided what we are receiving can we “chew” the light like food in our mouth, using our 32 teeth, tongue, and saliva, and allow this food to fill and be absorbed into us. In Kabbalah, this is studied in great detail.

The World through the Eyes of the Creator

275Question: We feel ourselves in some kind of physical attire. But Kabbalists, looking at this world, probably do not see individuals. Do they perceive it differently, perhaps like an aquarium in which small fish are scurrying around?

Answer: No, you do not see people as protein bodies, but as desires. You watch them shimmer, merge, come closer, and move away. And you need to somehow make sure that they eventually come into the right contact.

Question: Are our everyday worries, say that we need to hammer a nail or do something else, perceived by Kabbalists simply as desires?

Answer: These are animalistic mechanical desires. They are awakened in us automatically by that common motor that moves everyone forward. We need to work through them as well, they are our part.

Like in our world there is a vast universe and there is a clear causality that every molecule and every atom at every moment of time is in some state of its own and in a specific interaction with all the others.

Can we imagine this system? After all, this is infinity! What keeps the atoms of countless stars, nebulae, and galaxies in a certain system, in a certain relationship with each other? This is incredible for our conceptual apparatus.

How is it possible to think about all this at the same time, to program, maintain, and lead the entire system to a state of, say, vegetative nature? And it is even more complicated; all the movements in each molecule, in each combination, occur at a qualitatively new level. Then it all moves to the animate level: to amoebas, to all the simplest vertebrates, and so on. It becomes an enormous system!

But when it is triggered by one force—the force of maximum pleasure because the system itself consists of the desire to receive pleasure, it turns out that all this is averaged out, calms down, and adds up together.

It is very simple, nothing else is needed; into each atom, its desire enters, pleasure is given from above, and they all line up in a certain state. Absolutely everything in the world forms such a common “plate.”

Don’t Lose Faith

115Question: What prevents us from seeing the Creator as good and doing good, and how can we get out of lack of faith?

Answer: It is the lack of faith that interferes. You do not believe that it comes from Him, that He is good and does good. When you feel injustice and resentment, at this time and to this extent the Creator is concealed; He does not want you to accuse Him.

And when you open your heart, then He comes closer to you. It depends on you whether He will be close to you or not.

When we talk about merging with the Creator, we mean that despite all problems and adversities that the Creator sends us, we want to be in a mutual embrace with each other and with Him. As it is said: “From the love of creatures to the love of the Creator.”

If we act in this way, we will reveal the whole universe as a single system of love. I am sure that we are getting closer to this.

Turn Only to the Creator

167Spiritual work is connected only with the Creator; it is only to Him that we should turn and receive answers from. Therefore, we have no one else to look to and nothing more to expect, except help from the Creator.

But if a person has a sense of guilt and a feeling that he receives punishment for wrong thoughts, that perception also comes from the Creator. The Creator wants us to feel this way.

In this case, we do not need to ask the Creator for help dealing with these thoughts. We should ask only one thing: that He would connect us all and raise us to Himself.
